|1.24km from city centerWe had a nice stay in Takinoyu Hotel. When we departed from Tokyo, it was sunny and not snowing at all. Once Shinkansen train passed the tunnel, a whole different view was revealed. We were surprised by the snow-covered landscaped in Echigoyuzawa. The hotel offered a free shuttle van. You just need to make a call using a paid phone by the station exit. Our room was spacious, tidy and cozy, with a nice view. We had a tiny living room and massage chair and coffee maker. The hotel outdoor and indoor onsens were both great. On snowy days, the hotel offered free waterproof boots to keep your feet dry if you want to have an outside walking. There was a ski slope named Ipponsugi right in front of Echigoyuzawa Station, only 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel. Ski lift and rentals were also available. We had Kaiseki dinner in our room, which was a traditional multi-course and each individual tray was served one by one. Two trainees from China were arranged to prepare dinner for us and they introduced us the technique of Kaiseki Cuisine. The hotel breakfast was Japanese set meals served in a dining room, mostly local food such as grilled fish, soybean paste soup and oriental dishes. We’d recommend this hotel if you want to experience Japanese hospitality.

Rather than using it with your family, we recommend using it with friends or traveling alone. The room was about 8 tatami mats with two single beds. The bath is not big, but it was a hot spring and the price is reasonable, so I think it's a good hotel. One with huge indoor pool and 2 hot and 1 cold outdoor pool. Another one with only indoor pool. The dinner is really good with lot of varieties and delicacies. The room are big with two beds and tatami for 3 and with onsen type bath tub. The checkout time is quite early but the hotel provide free luggage lockers, good for those waiting for the train after checkout.

|0.4km from city center近くに国道17号がありますが、住宅街の中にあるので、うるさくもなくゆっくりできました。 駅前にあるバス乗り場にもでやすいので、スキースノボで来るならとても良い場所かと思います 小さいですが３〜４人くらい入れる広めの大浴場あり。 中から鍵をかけて使用して良いとのことです。 なので貸切状態でゆっくり入れ、とても快適でした。 出る時は、電気を消して扉を全開にして開けておきます。 特に予約とかはないので、鍵がかかっていなければ入れる感じです。 乾燥室のような板置きもあるので、スノーシーズンには重宝します。 ハンガー掛けるところもあるので、ウェア等も乾かせます。 板のお手入れのことも伝えたら、快く延長コードを貸してもらえました 乾燥室でワックスがけもさせていただけたので良かったです。 部屋は２名用なので、広々しています。 机も仕事するには問題ない広さです。 帰りが遅くなる時は、鍵を持って出た方が良いです。 早く戻る時も持ってても良いかもです。 一度、フロントに預けて出た際に、午後早めに戻ってきましたが、呼び鈴押しても全く出てこなかった時があります。 電話もかけてみましたが、やはり出ず… 10分くらい待ってようやくエレベーターで降りてこられたので、フロントにいない場合もありです。 数日滞在でしたので、毎日清掃も入ります。 バスタオル類や歯ブラシも毎回新しいのを置いてもらえます。 乾燥室のような板置きもありです。 ハンガー掛けるところもあるので、ウェア等も乾かせます。 板のお手入れのことも伝えたら、快く延長コードを貸してもらえました。 乾燥室でワックスがけもさせていただけたので良かったです。

If you tell the arrival time to Echigo Yuzawa station, they will pick you up. I am grateful for this service while everyone is waiting for the bus after getting off the Shinkansen. If you tell me the time to return, it will be sent. Free transfer. It takes about 10 minutes by car, but it's a 1-minute walk to the ski resort (first lift, a slightly hard snowy intermediate slope), so it's worth staying just for the location and pick-up. In addition, the hot spring (source) input fee is 360 yen per person, but even if you check out the next morning, you will keep your luggage until you return, and you will also take a bath on your way home without additional charge. We finished dinner and breakfast at a convenience store (FamilyMart) for 5 minutes on foot without eating rice. You can use it enough. The owner is a little blunt, and there seems to be various word of mouth, but I think that you can enjoy it enough if you don't expect much of the service by conveying the information firmly. The lady at the reception also remembered a year ago and responded politely. The hotel itself has an old Showa era feel. The hot springs are hot. I'm disappointed if I don't know that the sauna is an extra charge (500 yen once and make a reservation two hours in advance). The room has a hairdryer, but the bathroom is not equipped. Last year, when I used a hair dryer in my room, the breaker fell, but I returned the bar and responded. The breaker was okay this year. Rental skis are waxed and maintained. |2.14km from city centerMy stay at the Takahan Ryokan was wonderful thanks to the welcoming staff, classic room layout and view, and history of the property. I arrived at Gala Yuzawa Station a little before the official check-in time (3:00 pm) but was still picked up within five minutes after calling. The staff member on the phone spoke good English, as did the two staff members - both non-Japanese - who welcomed me at the hotel. Everyone was patient and went out of their way to help me and answer questions. One staff member led me up to my room on the fifth floor of the hotel, showing me the entrance to the baths from the hot spring presumably under the property and the room Kawabata Yasunari wrote ”Snow Country” in, both on the first floor, along the way. I was really happy with the room, which was quite large by Japanese standards and had a great view. As another reviewer noted, the amenities in the room are dated, but I thought that just added to the charm. As a fan of Kawabata Yasunari, I really enjoyed the history of the place and the chance to look out on the town from the same vantage point he described in his novel. The comfortable seating - with tea set - on the room's balcony/veranda made this especially enjoyable to do. Overall, my stay at the Takahan was one of the most memorable and enjoyable I've had. Highly recommended.
