4.93km from Piscina Day NightI am posting a separate review of the town of Erice, and my dissatisfaction with my stay in the town may have negatively affected my impressions about this hotel, but... The positives: 1. excellent driving directions and parking information were emailed to me a couple of weeks prior to my stay. Unfortunately a portion of the road from Valderice was closed for construction the day we arrived but our GPS assisted us in finding a short detour. Probably the hotel was not aware of this closure. Be advised, the road from Valderice to Erice is narrow and steep with many switchbacks, nervous drivers should take the long way around and travel up from the city of Trapani on a more improved road with equally beautiful scenic views. 2. The location a short walk uphill from the bus parking area, close proximity to shops and restaurants. Also close to the cable car to Trapani which makes a great day or half-day excursion. 3. Compared to similar accommodation options in town, apparent good value for money. The negatives: 1. The staff are not welcoming. When we arrived at the check-in desk there was nobody around, we rang the bell a few times and finally had to travel through the hotel into the kitchen to locate somebody who could assist us with the check in. Had to track them down again when we wanted to check out. During our three day stay, when we passed through the lobby to and from our room, we never saw anyone at the front desk and seldom saw any staff member on site. The two gentlemen we did encounter, one at the breakfast room and one in charge of housekeeping, were so deferential (or maybe shy) as to again make us feel unwelcome. It was clear that few of the rooms were occupied during our stay, so the desolate atmosphere may have added to our discomfort level. 2. Breakfast was just ok. Croissants were fresh and scrambled eggs were good but the cold cuts had gone bad and the extensive selection of individually plated pastries looked much better than they tasted. Best part of the breakfast was the view out the windows. 3. This is not a great location if you have a vehicle. Even the closest free parking was a 10 minute uphill walk from the hotel, and was only free in the off-season. The hotel offers a variety of room options. We upgraded to a spacious room with a view of the coastline from a Juliet balcony, with a king bed on the upper level, and a kitchenette with mini fridge and small tv, small living room area, and bathroom on the lower level. The decor and condition were a bit tired but it was clean. WiFi was good. This is probably a great hotel option in peak season for an overnight stay: in the off-season, however, it feels like it is operating with a skeleton staff that wish it would shut down completely for the winter months and this is reflected in the service.
