8.86km from Miyoshi NurseryWe ended up staying at Hanajukai pretty much by accident, as the heavy rainfall of July 2018 made it impossible to reach our hotel in the Iya valley. Our decision to spend the night here turned out to be one of the best of our stay in Japan, however. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a stunning location up a steep hillside overlooking Takamatsu city, and remarkable attention to detail within. If you keep your eyes open, you will find yourself endlessly running into little decorative pieces, terrariums and all sorts of fascinating things. The rooms are wonderful, with a perfect combination of Japanese tradition and modern convenience (and, again, the stunning panoramic views of the city). The kaiseki dinner in the restaurant was also delicious (not to the extent that I would recommend anyone come here for the food alone, however). As indicated by the title of my review, the staff were the highlight of our stay, though. Incredible attention to detail (even by Japanese standards), combined with genuine warmth and a more personal touch than in most Japanese hotels. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, and will definitely stay here again if I ever have the pleasure of returning to Takamatsu.
