Check in on August 7th - staying one night. Upon entering the hotel we were impressed. Pretty and clean. We were attending a wedding and had 2 queen beds in our room. My daughter was in the wedding so we had a lot of getting ready and showers and hair and make up going on. Early in the morning on the 8th we were out of toilet paper (?) not sure why but called down and they immediately brought up a roll. Great. Went to the ceremony came back and there was time between that and the reception. All towels were used of course, and room was not cleaned which is common to not clean now (I have traveled a bit during Covid) unless requested. I called down they said we couldn't even request to have it cleaned they would not clean our room during the stay. I asked for more towels as i knew we would shower again in the AM. They said they would not bring towels we had to come get them. They said they are not aloud to deliver anything to rooms. Hmmmmm....a nice hotel like this....will bring toilet paper but not towels. This by the way is unusual! Most hotels will still bring you fresh towels when you need them. After the wedding my daughter wanted to shower - SO went downstairs to get towels - explained his unhappiness and frustrated left with towels. The security followed him up and knocked on our door. Now, we were exhausted, tired and sweaty from our long day. Just us in the room! Security said they got a noise complaint from our room. Mind you we didn't even have the TV on. We were getting ready for bed. We were shocked and said it must have been another room. Security insisted it was our room. I should have wrote his name down. My husband shut the door on him and could not believe they were treating us this way. He knocked again and told us we had to leave. In my 50 plus years I have never been kicked out a hotel. I asked my husband if I could talk to the man and explained our frustration and after thinking about it...he let us stay. Oh...so the next day we ran out of shampoo and they happily brought us shampoo and didn't even ask but brought extra towels. That security guy was horrible. We were not college kids having a party.....we are the customer. We try to be patient as this is a trying time for all....but realize we are also paying the same amount for less services when we come to your hotel...the least you could do is be nice. We will not be visiting this hotel again.

My husband and I booked one of the king executive suites for a weekend. When we arrived, they had upgraded us to a corner king executive suite. We were impressed because they were requiring masks, and only allowing two people in the elevator at one time. The room was very clean. We needed batteries for the remote that we had brought along in order to watch our Netflix account. I called down and they had someone bring them up immediately. The hotel has many wonderful restaurants nearby (we ordered delivery both nights) and parking was available in the covered parking garage right across the street. We will definitely stay at the Des Lux Hotel the next time that we are visiting Des Moines!!

I stayed here on a work trip in late July 2020. Despite the covid pandemic, most amenities were open and everything was very clean. Lots of gym equipment options and a solid pool with a view of the capitol building. The location is just a bit outside of downtown but everything you may need is less than a 15-20 walk away. The hotel feels extremely modern and I definitely consider staying here again.

The staff was so friendly! We had a bit of miscommunication between the hotel and trip.com regarding payment, but they got it worked out quickly and the staff were quick to make things right for us! We enjoyed both the hot tub & pool and both were exactly what we needed!! The hotel was far enough from downtown to be peaceful but close enough that everything was accessible. The biggest thing that stood out was how accommodating the staff were. Absolutely recommend.

Our stay at this hotel was a great experience until breakfast. One of the breakfast staff treated hotel guests very rude. I felt uncomfortable at breakfast. Other than that, this hotel has a great location, great front desk staff, great rooms, etc. I would stay here again but am nervous about upsetting breakfast staff about accidentally leaving a lid open or accidentally spilling something. I couldn’t imagine if I had my kids at breakfast with me.

Firstly, the location is great, it's near the East village and within walking distance of some great eateries etc. Also, the bed was very comfortable; we both slept really well. Although somewhat dated elsewhere in the common areas, the fountains in the lobby were very nice and calming. Our main issues were the poor customer service and the hotel's dirtiness. In our room there were crumbs and hairs in the bathroom and beside the bedside tables. Also, I found a used, damp towel in the living room, in a cabinet. At one point we had a lightbulb replaced and the amount dusk that fell from the fixture was embarrassing for the maintenance person. We're not over the top with cleanliness by any means; however, our friends from the wedding party also noted the excessive dirtiness throughout. Wherever you went it was noticeable: elevator carpets needing vaccumed, dirt in the garage hallway for the duration of our stay, and finger prints on the mirrors and windows. I have never experienced this at an Embassy. Lastly, the customer service was bad: we did not feel welcomed by the staff at all. This hotel needs an upgrade badly.

We attended a wedding reception at this hotel 47 years ago! When traveling through Des Moines, we booked a room at the downtown Comfort Inn location and were surprised as were drove up that it was the hotel we were at 47 years ago (LOL). The hotel exterior is a bit dated, but the parking is abundant and safe and in good condition. The lobby is has been updated (probably several times) and is nice and squeaky clean. Staff all were in masks and hand sanitizer was prominently positioned. The elevators were fast and clean. Our room was nice and had been updated with new bath fixtures, etc. internet was fast. The room was well fitted out with a comfortable bed, etc. We definitely recommend this hotel!!

First the positives: Polite and helpful staff. Super clean premises, attractive design and extremely straightforward layout - easy to find the elevator and your room. The room has a fold out couch that can convert into a bed. The shower seemed high quality with overhead and handheld shower heads. USB ports all around the room make it easy to charge your phone and other electronic devices. Signing into the complimentary wifi was a breeze. Room fridgs kept beverages frosty and the air conditioning maintained the temperature perfectly. The hotel was pretty booked for various events, but we didn't hear any sound from neighboring rooms whatsoever. The elevators limit access to floors other than 6 (bar floor) to people who have room keys. Neutral: On-site parking was sold out, but it was only $10 for overnight parking a block away, so not so bad. Shower only - no bathtub. Not so great: Iowa doesn't require masks, so staff is inconsistent about wearing them. Front desk and cleaning staff were not wearing masks, but bar staff and on day two the front desk person did. On July 11th, they offered complimentary muffins and milk, but the milk said "best by July 8th" on the cartons. The bed was on the very firm side to the point of being uncomfortable as a side sleeper. The elevators seemed to be extremely slow even at non-peak usage times. In the morning (high-traffic time) we just gave up and used the stairs.

Travelled here for business, I was extremely pleased with the suite. Very tasteful colors and comfortable. The staff at the front desk were very nice, helpful and very mindful of contact- sanitizing everything touched which was great to see. The pool is currently open which is quite rare for hotels during these covid times... They do not offer a breakfast bufet but they do offer a grab and go back with fruit/yogurt/granola bar and hard boiled eggs. The coffee in the room is not too bad. 4 minutes to the airport. Will definitely stay here again.

Why isn’t everyone staying here before a flight out of DSM? Three miles from the airport, this hidden gem should be everyone’s go-to park and fly hotel. A room rate well under $100, free park and fly up to five days, airport shuttle at departure and arrival should be enough to convince even the most jaded traveler, but there’s more! From the gal at the front desk in the evening, to the early morning manager and the friendly shuttle driver, the Baymont has the kind of employees the hospitality industry need more of. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming for this solo traveler. Even at 4:45 a.m. they were cheerful and courteous. This Baymont is owned by a trucking school and there are students on site. The whole place is spotless and in great condition. My room was clean and comfortable with more than enough towels. All staff and guests were masked up and there are multiple hand sanitizer stations available throughout the hotel. A welcome bag with water, a cookie and a pen and pencil set was an unexpected touch. Thanks to all the folks at the Baymont, my trip across the country started off on a happy note. The Baymont will be my go-to for DSM every time I fly!

First, I must say Double Tree got my attention before I could get through the doors. I am an experienced traveler who has stayed in hotels rated between B&B-5 star. The four things I make my judgement from are- how much space in room, good water pressure, the convenience of all 3 meals available and very reasonable rates($100-125+/-). Like wise, this was my fifth trip to the Des Moines air port, but first at Double Tree for those reasons. Before I got through the doors, I heard WELCOME. Her smile was big I could see it through her mask. Likewise, I had reserved a room only with a only a king, but entered a room with 3 surprises: 1- there was a sofa bed(an unexpected free upgrade), 2-When getting ready to plug both my C-PAP and cell, I spotted plug-ins in both the lamp on the desk and alarm clock on night stand.( Sure beats moving furniture hunting an free plug), 3-an adjustable shower. I stopped l the front desk if there was a mini fridge and told they are under the TV behind a door. (Note- I would take a free upgrade over a listed mini fridge anytime.) Being there two days, I took a nap on the long sofa bed and in the bed at night. I cannot be picky on the beds, but admit both are very comfortable. The mattress is very soft. Because of the virus, the hotel offers grab and go breakfast but the Steak House is open for lunch and supper. Note- I know sudden problems can arise, but may I suggest that you tell the front desk or GM. Somethings they can fix, some things are beyond their control. As you can see, I do plan to stay again. ATTN GM-I think I have already answered most of the questions below, so will not mark them.

Cons: Bathroom is completely outdated (super cheap plastic shower/bath) and does not match the cost of the room. Wall not painted behind the toilet. Bathroom exhaust fan did not work at all, which is a very stinky/uncomfortable situation with more than one guest. Toilet handle stopped working, luckily this was just prior to checkout. No regular curtain (only sheer/gauze) and therefore no privacy, and we were unable to block outside light coming into the room throughout the night. We happened to have eye covers with us, otherwise I would have been pissed! There were tears in 2 lamp shades, a tear in the bedspread, and window covering, and the towels were worn down/several snags/holes. The heater would not go below 67 degrees. We're used to sleeping in a cooler room, so being overly warm was uncomfortable for us. Pro's: Cost of long term parking was a good deal. Bed was very comfortable. Room was quiet, and decor/furnishings were decent, though much needs to be updated/fixed/maintained.

So I wouldn't call this love at first sight. The motel's exterior screamed...well, motel. The check in area was a sterile space scattered with moth balls, and the paint colors were definitely chosen by a blind person. I waited my turn and approached the bullet proof glass. The nice lady sorted out some confusion and sent me to the room. This is where the motel shined. The room was not at all Bates like. The owners had put a lot of effort in updating it. As other reviewers mentioned, the clean room had enough charging ports and the a/c was strong. Not many extras, but it had all the necessities. The street noise was covered up by the a/c and the bed was comfortable. The only real disappointment, was that the WiFi did not work for my husband. And there was nowhere in the vicinity to eat and this was not the walking type area. I'm sure it wasn't unsafe, but still. It appears that this is a simple motel that a hard working family has made the best of. It does not pretend to be the Hilton, but just a comfortable , clean place to lay your head within 10 min of downtown...and cost a third of your typical downtown hotel. If this is your expectation, then you will be happy. 3.5 stars is seems right.

There are a couple things to mention.. 1 was the swimming pool was closed, i did not see anywhere that it was closed prior to booking and there were families there dissapointed as well bc They were all geared up for the pool with the little ones. Another thing is there are NO Microwaves in the rooms... That was a big issue as we had left overs we couldn't enjoy and they do not offer breakfast. Last thing, the parking ramp is TINY & under construction so more than half of it couldn't be used. Other than those 3 things This was a great fun trip.. I had a blast. I would rent again.. I found out pool opens in end of August

The location is very good, just 300 meters away from the exhibition center, the city center is out, there are mall and target nearby, and the clothing and daily necessities are tax-free, so surprised. The hotel lobby is very tall, the parking lot is in the basement, and the elevator is directly to the hotel lobby, which is very convenient, but the hotel parking fee is 14 dollars a night. The overall experience is good, share it with everyone, foreign hotels will be particularly expensive on weekends or when there are many people. This is a bit unacceptable. The price of the first night is especially expensive, twice the third night, so I suggest you choose a good time. Oh, try to avoid weekends and busy time.

The Westin is inside an old bank and along with the bank vault turned into a wine cellar comes that old bank smell that is both musty but nostalgic. I stay in downtown Minneapolis every month over the last 5 years so I’ve stayed almost everywhere and the Westin has been one of my preferred venues. PROS I was upgraded to one of the suites on the same floor as the fitness center and swimming pool. It was way more space than I needed, but quite nice. I used the pool almost every evening and had it all to my self each time (I’m not that scary looking). As a Marrriott Bonvoy Titanium member I got the free breakfast at the BANK restaurant. It’s nice whenever you can get a hotel connected to the skyway like the Westin. CONS The staff at the BANK restaurant was pretty unengaged to the point that I basically poured my own drinks and got silverware while they just chatted amongst themselves. The bathroom (really the shower) in the suite was not as nice as the ones in more basic rooms. VERDICT A nice downtown hotel with all the normal features presented mostly in a professional and consistent way. I will be staying there again when I can get it for a good price.
