|0.54km from city centerI love the location of this hotel, a couple of minutes walk from the train station, castle and restaurants/bars. Check in was quick and easy. The room was very small, OK for one person but a squeeze for two and/or with a lot of luggage. There is no air con so the room gets really hot (I went in June), you can open the window but there are no nets or blinds so this causes an issue with privacy and at night as the curtains are heavy and push the window closed. I had an issue using the code to get in on the first night, the code worked but the door did not disengage for me to get in. I tried to call the number provided for assistance outside of reception hours but it just kept ringing so I was stuck outside on my own for quite a while until the door finally opened.

We had to go through the reception, then the parking and finally go back to what they call the building ”Annex” To get into our room (3 different codes every time you know Fort Boyard?). When we wanted to use a suitcase, I'll tell you the details: it was roughly red. Absolutely unacceptable for a hotel. Even if it is not a 3*, the hygiene really leaves to be desired. The wallpaper was brought back to the reception, which offered us to put another in the room. It was not sliced from red but brown ... And to corone all, it was cut off on December 31, tonight when we were preparing. Also paid the full amount that can not be refunded. No way, the hotel that you set yourself must go to live with the scalp. We immediately communicated with Ctrip customer service. It took a lot of effort but finally got it. We paid for it ourselves. One breakfast, Ctrip gives a refund, breakfast is OK. Hotel location is good, on the main road, there are many shopping malls and restaurants nearby. Compared to the OKKO hotel where I lived, the equipment is old, the sewer is not smooth, and the free coffee bar is generally available.

I booked a one-night stay (04th - 05th December 2021) also based on the positive reviews read on Google and ***********. My stay in room 304 was extremely pleasant as the room is perfectly located on the courtyard, providing a quiet surrounding. The room itself is big and I was particularly impressed by its cleanliness. Furthermore, check in and check out at reception was very smooth and handled professionally. Talking to the reception team, it is obvious they genuinely like their job in the hospitality business. Their commitment, all the more resounding in this time of uncertainty, is pleasant and warm to witness. Next time in Nantes, I have found my preferred hotel :-)

|0.97km from city centerThe Sozo is a four-star hotel built in a converted 19th century chapel. I paid extra to stay in one of the top floor rooms with the stained glass and vaulted ceilings. Room amenities included robes and a Nespresso machine, with coffee, tea, bottled water and biscuits refreshed daily. This hotel also has a lift, so it is perfect for people with physical disabilities. The concierges are functionally bilingual. There was a hand written welcome note on my bed which was a very nice touch. The Sozo is across the street from a large botanical park which is also a thoroughfare to other parts of the city. It is a five minute walk to the train station and tram line, and there are a number of places to eat in the immediate area. I recommend the Sozo for the experience, service and location.

|0.92km from city centerGreat modern hotel with modern rooms, the whole hotel is themed around Jules Verne which makes it quirky, colourful and fun. Staff were really friendly and happy to give out recommendations and advice, and provided a warm experience at check in and check out. The room itself was fitted with a kingsize bed that was firm but really comfortable, in part due to the hotel putting a duvet under the bottom sheet to provide a sandwich of softness. It was actually better than our bed at home, which is saying something! The hotel was also well located within the city, with restaurants only a few minutes walk, and for other attractions which were about 15-20 mins walk its easy to get on the tram (€1.70 for an hour travel pass, free on weekends) to get there in minutes. Overall Nantes is a great place to visit, we're already looking at coming back and this hotel gives a friendly personalised service for a great price - incroyable!

|8.61km from city centerWe had an issue with the floor of our bathroom being wet. After using the shower, we noticed it was leaking from under the bath. This was reported, but we were told as it was late it would not be possible to have it looked at. We were offered to move rooms, but as this was a joint room, we could use the bathroom of the other room so stayed. We mentioned the issue again the next day on check out and this receptionist was not aware but said she would have it looked at. The following day I had €200 deducted from my bank. I rang up to see why and was accused of making a mess in the bathroom, flooding it. I was told a technician could not find an issue and so it must be ‘guest error’. After multiple calls about the issue I finally received a call and was told that after a visit from a second technician, there actually was an issue and received an apology. While I appreciate the apology, I wasted a morning of my holiday worrying and dealing with this issue and do not appreciate having a random fine deducted from my card with absolutely no communication beforehand. There appears to be no system for staff to log issues reported by guests, as if the issue was communicated effectively to the morning staff, they would have been fully aware and would have had that staff members testimony. Instead I was told that they would have to wait until that staff member started later in the day to get ‘her side of the story’. In summary instead of receiving an apology for a fault in our room, we received an accusation and a fine. The poor communication made this all the worse. If this is the type of service Best Western are proud of, I will certainly not be returning or recommending your hotels.

There is no lift, and the stairs are steep and quite narrow, this wasn't a problem for us, but could be for elderly or disabled people. The room was very nice, with two sets of double doors leading to a false balcony, giving good sound insulation. However we were worried about the church opposite with the bells sounding every quarter ofd an hour. We asked at reception and the receptionist said it wasn't a problem, but was a bit vague about the noise. We changed rooms to a room at the back, smaller and not as nice. It turned out we didn't need to as the bells were silent during the night. Oh well, it didn't matter too much. Showers were good and the beds comfortable. Everything was very clean, although the carpets could do with being replaced. Our son had a separate single room on the top floor which was nice, although one gained access through the bathroom! No smoking establishment and no pets. The hotel is situated in a street with several restaurants and independant shops. There is a bar next door with pinball machines which was very friendly and another great bar further up the street. Fantastic record shop a couple of doors up. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the town centre and there is on street parking about. One can see the castle by leaning out of the window!

However, we were given family room 111 which faces the street. The air conditioning was not working well, and when we opened the windows, there was the sound of the train, people fighting, or couples. We asked to have the air fixed but were just as uncomfortable the second night. The “rooms” are separated by sliding bamboo curtains, which made it impossible to sleep until the last person went to bed. Breakfast was very sp**** at the €14 per person charge. But reception staff was impeccably nice. I think we would choose a real hotel with real beds and real doors next time.

|3km from city centerIt´s very comfortable and clean, so when you first enter the room it gives very good impression. It has four plugs, so you can charge all your devices. The bathroom was clean and wide. The room is not big but I didn´t miss extra space. The staff is very nice and speak at least french and english. The only point to improve is that if the parking is full you have to find a place to park in the area of the hotel, and it´s not always easy. Despite that, I would repeat because the price is very good.

Air con worked brilliantly and wasn't noisy. Location is convenient for many of the sights, and it's 5 mins walk to Commerce for Line 1, 2 and 3 trams. All public transport is free at weekends. Nantes is a lovely place to visit, plenty to do and see.

But OMG, the apartment I stayed in was dark, shabby, with a strange damp smell of mold or mildew emanating from the corridor. The towels were ancient and thread bare. just like the rest of the apartment, and definitely seen better days. Because of the pandemic. this was my first trip outside of the UK. so was looking forward to something a bit better than this.

|1.35km from city centerI was pleasantly surprised by the hotel, it was better than expected in all aspects. It was in a perfect locations for our visit to Les Machines. Rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The lobby area was clean and modern, all the staff we interacted with were both helpful and friendly. The big surprise was the restaurant. When we arrived at lunchtime we were hungry and could not be bothered to go outside the hotel so resigned ourselves to an average or worse hotel lunch. It was well above average, so when the evening arrived it was an easy decision to stay in the hotel for dinner. Both meals were excellent and very good value for money. I would stay and eat in the hotel again if in Nantes.
