Almost by accident we found this hotel some years ago, and what a fortunate discovery. Previously we have stayed in a variety of hotels in Ghent, but this one exceeds all expectations. The location is just right - close enough to all the tourist attractions, (you can see the three towers from the front of the hotel) but across a canal from the hustle and bustle. In the neighbourhood there are so many restaurants, although because breakfast was so substantial there was no need to stop for lunch. The breakfast was of the highest quality with lots to choose from - cooked as well as chilled. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent with a superb shower. What makes this hotel so special is the level of service from everyone. During our stay it was my husband's birthday (he loves to spend his bithday in Ghent) and a lovely surprise was left in the room for him. This hotel has the ability to make me feel happy - before our stay I look forward to it, during our stay everything is perfect, and afterwards we are left with the most amazing memories. We really look forward to returning next year.

Hotel looked in a decent location and value when searching. Emailed them to confirm we could store bicycles and they replied immediately to advise we were welcome to use their garage. Pleasant check in, very friendly, polite staff and they provided us with a map of the city. We were in the ‘Yellow House’, next door. Secure external bathroom (if you would like internal bathroom then request at booking), no problem though. Room was clean and modern, v comfy bed and in an excellent location from the square and old city. We opted for the hotel breakfast to save faffing as were cycling on to Bruges, certainly got our monies worth for €12 - fresh baguette, fresh coffee and refills offered. Would stay again :)

Pricy but from the grand entrance to the rooms and to the decor, you realize that the owners truly love what they are doing and enjoying their experience as the hosts of this charming place. We stayed at the room on the ground floor which has a private little conservatory! Everything is provided in the room (except the lighter for the beautiful large candles in the room). There are even bathrobes, slippers, hair dryer and all the toiletries. The parking isn't too far away and you can park your car at the front just to register and leave your luggage. We didn't have the breakfast there but it's available instead we walked to the corner intersection right by the bus station and had our breakfast at Tante Paula cafe. You must try the breakfast there! and say hello to the team of husband and wife and ask them who is Tante Paula?

This stay was good for us however it wouldn’t be for everyone. Starting with the good. It is an attic room with big windows that offer great views of the city. The room was tasteful and clean, the king bed was comfortable and extra pillows were a welcome bonus, the towels were lovely and large and the shower was really nice. However, being in the attic, the roof was slanted, as we are not a “tall” couple it was manageable however even I at 5’4 had to watch myself in the toilet cubby. Also, the light in the toilet was motioned controlled and we couldn’t turn it off (at least we didn’t know how to turn it off) so it came on in the night when I got up to use the toilet which disturbed my hubby. There was no tv, not a big deal and more my oversight as it wasn’t listed on the description of the amenities. The last negative which is also subjective were the stairs. Approximately 90 stairs to get to the room. The last section was a spiralled staircase which was tricky with luggage and no railing to hang on to. We managed but some might not. On the plus, they stored our luggage so we could go sightseeing, it was easy to contact them to gain entrance and they texted me the code for the doors and the wifi code. The location was really convenient. Overall the stay was good and price was reasonable.

We stayed here last and it was great. We stayed in the jungle caravan which was small but offered two double beds with enough space for three adults to sleep. The caravans are situated in what looks like an indoor warehouse with access to the old brickyard factory which was unique. The hostel is situated about a 15 minute walk from the city which is extremely convenient for sightseeing or an evening out. Breakfast was a continental breakfast great with a good choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A clean place to stay but without the frills of a hotel, totally relaxing in my opinion.

We were welcomed early by lovely Nadine, a real star of this hotel! “No problem enjoy the city, your car is safely parked. See you later when your room is ready.” The hotel is a 30minute walk from the city centre and better for it. A lovely quite pedestrian friendly city and the worst noise we experienced was the chug of boats on the nearby river. A lovely view whilst having a coffee in the morning! Beds good, shower fab and a wee fridge you can stock with local beers etc to save a few €😊. Strongly recommend!

I lately spent a few days in The Mansion in Gent. The hotel rooms are partly in a refurbished old mansion (as the name indicates) and partly in a new building. Both parts connect via the ground floor patio and the outside staircase at the different levels. The refurbishment, the choice of the quality of materials and the design have been done very tastefully. The WOW effect is immediate. The outside of the building is magnificent, but once you enter you get to see how majestic the place is. One thing that struck me is the serenity of the place, despite it's grandeur. They've got this lounge called The Library where you can get Nespresso coffee on the ground floor. It's really calm and cosy. The rooms are very clean and tidy. Again here, the materials and furniture are of fine quality. Very comfortable beds and nice sanitary amenities. Free qualitative coffee and tea in the rooms. The hotel is very well located. You can get to all major attractions in Gent by foot in a few minutes. No need to say I for sure recommend this charming hotel... Have a nice stay!

The hotel is beautiful, my daughter called it scenes from Alice in Wonderland. The art used and placed, the choice of furniture and the rooms esthetic, all above par. Congratulations. The one thing that did stand out unnecessary was that everything cost extra. We were 2 adults and a 13 year old girl, so we needed a room that had enough space for an extra bed, this costs extra, but was a sofa with linnen on top, not even a fold out. Breakfast was separate, fine, but a fruit salad on top became a separate cost. Emotion wise, it could work better if the "extra's" don't feel like extra's. If the room we had was listed as 440 euro for 3 people including breakfast, it would have been fine. My advice, make these things inclusive, so they feel like luxury, I am sure the guests visiting you can afford staying there. We did sleep like babies, so thanks for that.

I stayed at the Jan de Gent as a lone traveller, whilst supporting my son who was racing in the 6 day Ghent. It was great to be a bit further out from the city centre in this quiet superb, close to a nature reserve (the 7km walk on Saturday morning was just what I needed!). I was given a choice of rooms on arrival and chose to stay in the Nordic suite which was tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. The bathroom was more in keeping with a 5 star boutique hotel - a good size, with plenty of towels, shower gel and hairdryer. Breakfast - in the dedicated dining area at the top of the house - was more than plentiful with a comprehensive choice of cereals, cheeses, meets, breads - eggs were available to order. I didn't get the opportunity to use the wellness centre (maybe next time ?!) .

We were very pleased to have chosen Ibis Budget. The hotel was easy to get to from the main access road to Ghent and was short walking distance away from the historic town centre. I have emailed ahead enquiring about the parking procedure and we have parked outside while checking in and collecting the key card for the car park which was very good value for money at £10 per night. We were even able to park a bit longer after check out after paying additional £5. It is worth doing since parking is expensive in Ghent (free street parking on Sunday). Staff at reception was brilliant, two young ladies couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. We got equipped with city maps and got given a lot of useful info where and what to eat (traditional Ghent stew – waterzooi – is a must) and what to sea. Room was of good size and had everything we needed, comfy bed, air con, small seating area and a hairdryer in the bathroom. We were at the back of the hotel so we didn’t get bothered by the traffic noise and the ongoing roadworks. Breakfast was great, there was a big choice of pastries, breads, some cold meets, cheeses, cereals and fruit. Would definitely return if visiting Ghent again.

So close to public transport that the facade is literally obscured by a bus stop, this is a great place to spend some nights in Ghent. We were met by Polo, the friendly owner who took great pains to explain the surroundings (though Ghent is small, touristy and self-explanatory). Breakfast may be on the expensive side, but it looks glorious. The door can be opened with a code at night. I'm not sure what the latest check-in time is. Getting there by car is a bit of a challenge if your satnav is not aware of the many one-way streets in Ghent (I'm looking at you, Google Maps).

I stayed 3 nights at the Rose House BnB in Ghent for a New Year celebration. The owners were very friendly, but also respect you privacy. They often asked if I needed help or if I wanted something to drink/eat. They also give great advice on public transport and things to visit. My stay was very flexible. I came back late because I was enjoying the night life. Their breakfast is optional (just have to tell them one day in advance if you want breakfast or not). I only enjoyed their breakfast once and it was great! A lot of options to choose from and with a home-made touch. The distance to the city centre is a bit far, but there is a direct tram line and a lot of busses that stop on a walking distance from their place. I brought my bike and I cycled to the city centre a few times. There aren't many traffic light for you to stop, so it goes quite fast. However, there are a few old and bumpy stone rouds in the city centre that are not enjoyable to cycle. Overal, it was a very pleseant stay. I came alone, but I didn't feel alone because of the owners kindness. And because of the Christmas feeling around new year, they prepared a small gift for me to take home after my visit. They even contacted me that I forgot something in the bedroom. Very kind people!

Situated next to the river, the hotel offers amazing comfort in an area close to the vibrant city centre, but tucked away enough to be very peaceful. We were offered a room upgrade and we were impressed. A large comfortable bed, plenty of space in a gorgeous room. The bathroom was spotless, spacious and the shower extremely powerful. The room smelled of the disinfectant used due to the covid crisis. Not overpowering but actually very reassuringly nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they were very conscientious about the covid-19 issues, all wore masks ans insisted guests did when using the communal areas such as bar and breakfast room (apart from when actually eating and drinking of course ;) ) The breakfast was ample and tasty, all the utensils were individually wrapped and handed out by staff. They made sure everything was being wiped down as soon as anybody left a table. The parking was very close by and it cost us just €24 in a public car park for our 36 hours in the city, way cheaper than found in most other cities. Nothing but good things to say about the hotel, would 100% use it again,

I had such a great experience in this hotel. I want to thank my interlocutores during the booking who were so reactive and accommodating to all my requests. Amazing customer service. I booked this hotel to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and I asked for roses on the bed and they did that. I also got a room upgrade, in fact I had booked a standard room on booking.com first but then asked the hotel to change my reservation for the day before with a correspondent room for that same price. I got one of the best rooms, so spacious and cozy. I had a jacuzzi which I enjoyed to the fullest and I felt like a queen for one night. Breakfast was also great and varied. The Best Western Chamade has been recently reopened after Covid restrictions were lifted. The safety procedures are working well. Once again the lady in the breakfast room was really nice & there was a good variety of food available. The hotel has a tram stop out the front & it's only a five minute ride to the old town. Ghent seemed very quite for summer so if you are In the area it seems a good time to visit & help a few struggling business out. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Plenty of room, kitchen amenities, perfect location. We would definitely stay here again. While the street has cars and pedestrians in the daytime, it is very quiet at night - and we were on the first floor above the street. I would only suggest to install a full length mirror and place a foam pad on the bed for added comfort. The owner, Nelle, was extremely helpful in getting us a taxi when the one we called never showed up. It was easy check in - all went well. You will need to carry your luggage up a narrow steep stairway. Luckily our taxi driver helped us. Going down wasn't a problem. From this location, walk either right or left and behind to arrive at "Friday Market" square - where there is a large thriving market on Fridays! Go across and left a ways and then right to walk along all the cathedrals and bell tower. Or across and right to make your way quicker to the castle and canal for a boat ride. Old town, with all its streets and alleys, old buildings, canals, restaurants, coffee, and beer bars, is wonderful, friendly, safe, and easy to navigate. Count on about $12-15 in a taxi to the train station.

Ideal for enjoying all the lovely sites Ghent has to offer - too much for our 3 day trip so we're looking forward to returning. Highlights were the guided tour - witty & informative - & the Dr Guislain museum - not just the history of psychiatry, but yetis in Romania, Tunguska beetles, Blood Test art responses & outsider art & all in a peaceful location on the Tram 1 line. Also had the best tagine in a long time at Mogador.

Me and my boyfriend have been here three years in a row, because we absolutely LOVE Ghent, it is our favorite city in the world and this hostel just makes you feel like you're apart of it. We have taken a few of our friends here too and they loved staying here. We opt for the big room on top, the 10 person sleeper. It has the MOST AMAZING view. There is nothing like waking up and looking out the window at that picturesque scenery. Everyone at the hostel is always super nice, we usually make friends with whoever else is in the room and go out dancing with them which is always a super fun time! The location is right in city center, you can walk to any great restaurant or attraction. There is a small breakfast you can purchase in the morning but usually we just cook something in their super nice kitchen. However we do usually partake in a beer or two from the onsite bar. They also have board games in their common area which is a great way to break the ice with other visitors! The other super awesome thing about this hostel that they always have a great free walking tour (obviously you should give them a great tip if you can) and you can rent a kayak from the hostel and they will help you take it to the river and you literally kayak through the city right by the castle and everything! Omg the perfect place to give ya taste of what this amazing city has to offer!

Stayed here for 4 nights in October. Room a little tired and some TV channels didn't work, plus remote was held together with tape. But the bed was very comfortable and we got four good nights' sleep. Convenient busses run frequently from just outside into town or to St Peters' Railway Station - €3 per person. We are used mainly to Premier Inn in the UK. Premier Inn provides bigger rooms and they are generally less tired, but the food at Campanile is much, much, better. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. All spoke English very well.

I really cannot share the negative comments by some travellers here. Yes, it's a small and slightly improvised place, but the price is attractive at such a central location. You will have a huge room, almost studio and lot's of privacy (never saw another guest). But yes, the stairs are long and very narrow, so no good if you cannot climb or have bulky luggage. Most importantly: there is no staffed reception, check-in is at the coffee shop downstairs which closes at 18h. So make sure to make arrangements if you arrive after hours. Not like me...
