Lovely hotel. Service and staff excellent. Although hotel is in a commercial area, it is right next to Winnash Triangle station ( 5 min walk) where for £4 off peak return ticket, you can travel the 6 minute journey into Reading. The station is in the centre of Reading high street. Highly recommend Spa and treatments. Great stay.

So.....after reading some of the reviews on here they would have you believe this is just a step up from Pontins. I was absolutely prepared for anything when we set off and even had a slight sinking feeling. I'd originally booked for one night with breakfast included because we had to come to the area for separate reason. I'd then decided to book an extra night and booked that night extremely last minute. I rang the hotel, giving them less than 24hrs, to see if it was possible. The guy that answered was extremely helpful and explained it wouldn't be a problem to pay for the extra night and on check-in it would be tagged as one booking. On arrival the receptionist couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and we checked in with absolutely no issue at all. The room was lovely, very well kept, extremely clean and I honestly couldn't find ANYTHING to complain about. Because that evening was very last minute we hadn't made any dinner plans so popped to the hotel restaurant for food. We were greeted by the ”infamous” Muhammad and his team and were seated straight away. Both my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals and again absolutely couldn't fault the food, the decor or the service, everything and everyone was beyond spot on. The following day we popped and used the pool facilities and again, changing rooms were clean and staff were extremely polite and helpful. My ONLY criticism (this is just MY personal preference) the temperature of the pool could have been notched up a couple of degrees, it was a wee bit chilly. We went out to a local restaurant that evening and on returning we decided to grab a coffee from the bar to take to our room. Again we were served by Muhammad who was as polite and helpful as usual and remembered us from the previous evening which was lovely. We had booked breakfast for our last morning and again with previous reviews in the back of my mind I was a bit dubious. I'll say this, if you cant find anything to feed yourself or your children at breakfast then there's something wrong with you and not the hotel. You name it and it was there, fresh fruit, pastries, cooked food, cereal, yogurt, choice of breads including bagels, choice of 4 juices...... The hot food was fresh and didn't taste like it was suffering from heat exhaustion from being sat there for hours. Again the staff were very friendly, especially the young lad who seated us (I THINK his name was Ellis, im really sorry if I've got that wrong). Checkout was fast and again we were greeted with a friendly face. We had a lovely couples weekend (doesn't happen often with an 8 year old) and that's entirely down to the hard work ALL the staff put in, not once did we feel awkward or too much trouble. We liked it so much we're planning a second stay in August for 2 nights and bringing our son for his birthday to Lego land. I'm not sure where the other reviewers stayed but it certainly wasn't the hotel we've just left and I'm sure our stay wasn't some sort

Good location, five minutes walk from Reading Railway Station. The entrance is a street garden. Opposite is the office building. The room was on the back floor and looked like a new one, but it didn't taste much. The room is large, the bathroom is large, and it is very comfortable. Breakfast is not bad, there are not many options, but it tastes good. There is a parking lot.

Excellent time, warm clean large room nice looking and stylish bed comfy soft pillows, nice big shower all clean hot water large soft towels. Keller bar was easy to get to great food and the band was great with a really buzzing atmosphere the night club was good too easy music to dance to. Easy to get back to my room at the end of the night. There was a lady called Laura who was always checking the ladies and floors making sure everything was safe she even kept the loo rolls topped up! All the the staff were really friendly and it was such an enjoyable experience. The next morning I visited the spa which was really great with pool, steam and sauna etc plus gym area all Technogym equip. Then a full English breakfast there was a good selection of food all warm and tasty. The staff were well organised clean tables etc. Well worth the money for all types of groups and families staying I would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you and see you again soon!

Lianna on Reception desk was simply a star so helpful professional and friendly as was everyone on reception desk. The Spa was lovely and the treatments were divine Sarh is amazing. Unfortunately The restaurant staff let the hotel side down Very embarrassing unprofessional and quite frankly what service. Was left waiting to be served and for our drinks to come. They didn't tend to ther tables people came in waited yo be served took so long they left. One server before our food has come had the check to ask us yo pay the bill as her shift was finishing and would be easier for her to do it now she hadn't even been serving us. When our food finally came mine the supreme chin was dry the potatoes were hard overdone My friend had the tuna which was served well done she wasnt asked how she'd like it cooked she also asked for chips on the side which didn't come with her main she had almost finished meal by the time chips finally came out Very disappointing However the change-over staff they were lovely it's a shame we didn't get served by them. I took my wife away here for 1 night. We had a package deal that included a Spa treatment, evening meal and bridal suite. A clean and good looking historic hotel. Spa area is small and had noisy Russian kids (very annoying, when trying to relax) in the pool, and parents that seemed to have little cares or control of those kids. Steam room door would not close right. Steam room and sauna are 4-6 people capacity maximum. We spent about 30 minutes in the spa on our first day of arrival, but didn’t bother spending any time on it the following day, as it wasn’t good enough and we felt indifferent about it. Our spa treatments: these were very nice, but very short at 30 minutes apiece. You really need an hour to completely relax. Relaxation room afterwards was very nice, tranquil and peaceful and provided light refreshments. I think I fell asleep here for about an hour, which was well needed. Room: the bridal suite was nice, historic, and bathroom was nice. Disappointingly, no toiletries, work avoided. And when we asked hotel reception to bring some up, they took 10 to 20 minutes. And gave us one shampoo, and one shower gel. No conditioner for my wife’s hair. Not sure if this was intentional, trying to save money or not? Evening meal: food was good, nothing super special, but adequate for what they classify as a four star hotel. Would I go again? Answer is no. It wasn’t special enough.

We booked thru virgin experiences as the pictures looked beautiful and just what we was looking for for our long awaited get away. Sadly the pictures are lies and obviously taken when the hotel was in good shape long ago as it’s rundown and tatty now. The hotel is dated and grubby but has a price tag of luxury which you can see it once was… WAS!! Our room was dusty and windows filthy, miss matched furniture and broken mirror wardrobe. The spa area was ok but the pool had many missing tiles and missing pump caps, also a spa pool but no longer working as one, the decking along the outside was rotten and broken and there was rubbish of broken furniture etc up along the side of the hotel. Around the pool under the loungers was thick dust and rubbish and is clearly missed when cleaning is done. We ate in the hotel as our experience included breakfast and dinner, poached eggs all snotty and omelet not cooked properly (how does someone undercook omelet) dinner we had fish with was a cheap white fish and was very wet with no flavour. We reported all this to virgin who spoke with the fredricks hotel and they denied it all, well what we didn’t have photos of! So disappointing so felt an honest review was needed incase like us you’ve waited so long to get away and recharger and think your going somewhere that’s pure luxury to only find out the photos are very out of date and the place is run down and tatty. oh and the bed we had was an awful nights sleep and when reported to owners son he didn’t care! Front of house staff absolutely lovely and the waiters and waitresses also the spa team and lady that done our massage were also lovely but sadly no matter how lovely they were it wasn’t the luxury relaxing stay we had hoped for.

The overall environment of the hotel built in 1901 is quite satisfactory. Quiet country style, Marlow has boats to play, 40-50 minutes drive from Windsor Castle and Bicester respectively, Uber is not easy to use in the countryside, you must use the local taxi cooperated by the hotel. Although this is a quiet and comfortable place with rich heritage, the service is quite old-fashioned. When I ordered food for my children, I wanted to give them more choices, so I ordered two staple dishes. My husband and I don’t like hotel meals very much. So I ordered an all-you-can-eat meal, but the waiter said behind our backs that we were weird, children ordering so many adults would not eat anything... I think it is because we are foreigners that they discriminate against them. The conversation at the front desk is also eccentric. In short, it is very conservative and old-fashioned, focusing on quietness. Also, the rooms are old and tripping.

My partner and I visited this hotel for a spa day as it was his birthday. It really was a day to remember! We turned up at midday after a leisurely morning, the spa reception staff were really friendly and answered all my questions with a smile. We were given our robes, slippers and towels and shown around the spa. We were given a key card and instructions on how to use it and off we went! We found a lounger outside, there were plenty available and sat in the sun, we then decided to take a dip in the outside hydro pool which was lovely and warm. Following that we decided to take a swim in the pool and dry off in the sun. We had access to tea, coffee and ice water whenever we needed. At 2pm we had the most amazing afternoon tea which was the perfect amount for the two of us. After that we went to use the spa facilities, we sat in the aroma steam room, followed my the igloo room and then the experience shower and dried off on the thermal beds. Finally after going to have a snooze in the sun we had our treatments of massage and facial. My therapist was called Kat and honestly she was brilliant, she applied the perfect pressure and got rid of every knot in my back and shoulders, she was informative, super friendly and so good at what she does, she even offered me a booklet wih all the products she used on my face. After that it was time to head home, I rarely write reviews but this one needed a mention, well done to everyone of the spa team, we will definitely be returning!

My best choice ever to book Mayfields, I fully understand now why Mayfields gains all consecutive awards & get highest rating in Trip advisor. Paul & Lesley are excellent hosts, rooms are comfortable & clean with decent decoration. Hot shower relaxed my day of journey. Impressive & marvelous breakfast, warm & excellent hospitality….. I recalled we were running late on my son first day school, I don’t know driving, the only way going to school is by foot. I’m too nervous since it’s only my 1st week in UK as well as my son 1st day school, I’m not sure if my walking direction to school is accurate or not, the only thing on my mind was not to be late to school ….. Lesley was so kind and helpful, she initially offered me a ride, I still remembered she wore her apron to drive me to school, she is really my angel and saved my life, my son 1st day school was excited but smooth! We have already decided to stay again at Mayfields for 2-4 weeks more before we got settled in mid Feb. Thank you Lesley & Paul!

We moved to Winnersh back in November. Called in for Dinner on our moving day. Well impressed then with service and the food. Today went back for wife's birthday meal with a table of 11 of us. Service 1st Class and food absolutely out of this world. This pub had a previous poor reputation but the new management team have turned it around. Thanks to Nate and the team for a fantastic afternoon.
