The front desk was welcoming and there was a Chinese staff who gave snacks to the children. The room has a high and low bed, the children are very happy, climbed up and down N times. However, the room was really small and the Japanese breakfast was not very used. It is more convenient to walk from Matsumoto Station for about five to ten minutes. Overall, the holiday booking price is a bit more expensive.

Booked a non-smoking room for 2 nights but as soon as I checked into my room, I could smell cigarette through the ventilation and despite turning heater off. As I'm slightly asthmatic and can't breathe well if cigarette smell presents, I went to the reception straight away and explained, but the manager didn't believe me. I asked him to come to my room and even though there was still strong smell of cigarette in the corridor and in the room, he denied he could smell it and was reluctant to do anything. I even asked him if other rooms on the floor were smoking rooms and he said no. Though he would not barge at first, I kept on insisting on a room change and he finally gave in. I always thought Japanese strides to provide exceptionally customer service but clearly not in this hotel coz I was treated with such mistrust and rudeness. This was by far the worst hotel experience I ever had in Japan! Luckily the air was fine after changing to a different floor, or otherwise I'd have to find a different hotel to stay and probably wouldn't get my money back as I booked directly on the hotel website. The other thing I didn't like was that I had to hand them the room key whenever I went out. This felt like they can't trust their hotel guests enough to let them keep the keys. I can understand that if I was staying at a local's home or in the older ryokan where the room door is not always secured, but this is meant to be a hotel? I also found the room quite dusty and outdated as well. Not somewhere I would recommend or stay again. So why didn't I rate it 1 star? That's because the breakfast staff were actually friendly and professional, much more polite than their main reception staff and also for the fact that it's located very close to the train station. If you are thinking about staying at this hotel, I would recommend you to compare other options before making your decision. There were a few other budget hotels nearby that's worth checking out.

Hotel location was great! Just a few steps from the Matsumoto train station and convenient for travellers arriving by rail. The room was a standard 'Japanese businessman' type of room with the usual amenities. Hotel was a short walk from most things in town (Matsumoto is a small town), with the castle being about a 15 to 20 min walk. Be sure to get the discounted entrance ticket from the hotel front desk! Hotel staff were friendly, and were very patient when coordinating the use of the 3 coin operated washing machines and dryers available in the hotel.

We were stuck in Matsumoto for additional one night because of the Typhoon. We have chosen this hotel by the Tourist Center. It is located in the city center not far from the Black Castle. The room was quite small, but sufficient for one night stay. Bed was comfort & the toilets were also sufficient. Breakfast was very good. The parking is 10 minutes walk. the charge is Y1200 for 18 hour parking which is reasonable. The service was very good, despite the team lack of English which is common in Japan.

The trip to Matsumoto was decided in a hurry. This hotel seems to be the first time to sell on Ctrip. There is no comment, so the price is good and breakfast is delivered. The hotel is not far from the bus stop and the JR station. It walks over the path along the Rosen convenience store and walks over a shrine of nested birds. The turn is here. There is a river in front of the hotel. Along the river you can go to Matsumoto Castle, Old Street and other attractions. Matsumoto is a small place. This is where the play is. Matsumoto Castle is beautiful. The reflection of the castle is in the moat, quiet and beautiful. Let's talk about the hotel. The hotel's lobby has self-collecting disposable toothbrushes, razors, combs, whole bottles of shampoo, shower gel, etc. There are small containers on the side for self-taking. I think the hotel's guests are mainly business people. When they have breakfast in the morning, they can see from the window of the restaurant. They see a lot of men in suits and suits, dragging small boxes and going out from the hotel. Because it is a man who lives a lot, the hotel has a smell of smoke, there are rooms in the room, and there are also in the hallway. Japanese hotels are allowed to smoke, but the hotel is a bit too big. I have a larger room and I can live in 2-4 people, but it is more difficult to stand up and sit down. Older people are less suitable. The front desk of the hotel is young and there is nothing wrong with English communication. There is also a little brother of Chinese service. I played along the way and saw too many old people to serve me. This hotel is different. There is a lot of food around the hotel, and there are many places to eat and drink at the bus stop and JR station. The breakfast at the hotel is relatively simple. It is better to have less smoke.

I had an enjoyable stay at Buena Vista Hotel! It situated a bit off the busy part of the train station but still in walking distance to all the interesting places. The executive room is a bit small but you might expect that as that is in Japan....the executive lounge gave me relax time towards the evening. Breakfast at the restaurant on the top floor offers fantastic views over the city at all angles. The staff are very friendly and helpful....one bonus is, although there is no onsen inside the hotels, it offers free onsen trip everyday to a premium onsen hotel situated up a bit on the mountain. We could use the public onsens which one of them is an outdoor onsen! I have enjoyed so much that I have even extended my stay for one more night. I highly recommend this hotel when you visit this lovely city of Matsumoto.

Larger hot spring hotels are basically local residents in Japan. After experiencing the hotel's breakfast and dinner, the letter price is quite high. There is a shuttle bus to and from the hotel at the east exit of JR Matsumoto Station, which is very convenient! The hotel is also very user-friendly, knowing that some guests are going to Matsumoto Castle, and we deliberately sent us there, and then sent other guests to the station, it was so sweet! At the same time, thank you Ctrip customer service staff for telling us the hotel information in time, so that we checked in very smoothly.

We travelled as a group of five and since most hotels in Japan are able to accommodate only 2-3 people, we found CASTANA by pure luck. The hotel was next door to a grocery store and within walking distance of several sushi, hot pot, bakeries, and restaurants. Kaneda-san communicated to our group very well in English and he went above and beyond to drive us around Matsumoto and gave us interesting information about the city. We're still talking about him and his kindness was definitely the highlight of our trip. The room was incredible, we had a loft bed and a full dining room with a microwave, toaster, utensils, and a mini fridge. It was amazing waking up every morning to the Matsumoto mountains and walking into the beautiful cafe with the friendliest staff ever. I usually stay with my grandmother in Matsumoto but with the large group we had to stay at a hotel, Cafe&Stay CASTANA was the best hotel stay we ever had and we are so excited to go back and meet Kaneda-san and his wife again!

I went to Xinzhou University with my daughter and chose this hotel. The proprietress was very enthusiastic, helped with the luggage, brought the items to the room, and gave the map around. The hand-painted was very careful, telling us about the restaurants and convenience stores around. Matsumoto was really quiet at night, but the law and order in Japan is also very good. There is a public soup pool in the hotel where you can take a bath and it is very comfortable. Deferred time check-out is only a symbolic supplement to the room rate. Very satisfied with a trip, and then Matsumoto will choose to live here.

The taxi driver from the station was spot on when he said the food was amazing! Dinner was 9 courses of lovingly prepared & intricately served traditional Japanese Kaiseki food. Many of the dishes were seafood tuna, bream, tiny calamari & prawn. There was a similar number of beautifully prepared courses for breakfast! The staff prepared our futon bed when we were eating. The ryokan has a lovely onsen in which to relax! Highly recommended!

First, new or clean. There is room rather than the narrow reception and hallways that are common in capsules. And it is good to have a large bath as well as a shower. However, shoe lockers are not high enough and narrow. The slippers inside are also worn down, so it looks dirty. There are few free herbal teas, PCs and popular manga in the shared free space, but you can read it freely, so it is a good base for trips that you want to reduce in price. And downstairs is a building with a bookstore and Daiso, so it's good for killing time. It is very close to Matsumoto Station so you can go to rice etc. immediately. The woman at the reception is a bit bad, so it is hard to hear. I spoke to English to foreigners, but I laughed a little at how easy it is to hear. In addition, although it is a motorcycle trip, a bicycle parking space is necessary, but there is only a little bicycle parking space under the building, but it is unsafe because it is shared with building users and cram bicycles and near vending machines, so it can not be said that it is scary because it is not safe. Moreover, since the entrance is a backstreet, there is no fear of mischief. There is a covered bicycle parking lot of a partner pachiya and it is very good, but 600 yen is expensive. It is the best if about 100 yen.

As always neat and convenient, two junctions from the JR station, 10 minutes away from Matsumoto Castle, 15 minutes away from AEON Mall, the hot springs are also great, and the free ramen at night is good, but unfortunately this year, Matsumoto is not very cold and it is not cold many. Across the road is a lot of food, horse meat barbecue, horns are also right, that is, many people have to wait more than an hour without making an appointment! There is a Chinese reception at the front desk, and if you do n’t clean the room, there are free gifts such as drinking water!

The rooms were exceptionally big, specially when considering how Japanese hotel rooms typically look like. In our case, we opted for a western style room, which was a funny mix of what one could expect of a Japanese room (different areas within the room) and a western style (understood by this, a regular bed). Upon arrival to the hotel, we were welcomed at reception without any trouble (important to mention, that there were no problems for checkin later than in the expected hours), and invited to use the onsen bath, which they opened half an hour more, specially for us. While we didn’t have enough time to check the room, we quickly wear our yukatas and went straight to the bath. Back in the room, we discovered that the only way to take a shower in the morning was by going to the onsen (no shower in our room), which was a bit of a surprise, but totally fine with us. The morning breakfast was one of my favorites ever; rice, two different soups, usually some egg rolls or omelette, fish, some preserved veggies, and a bar with yogurts, salads and more eggs. Overall, the facilities were exceptionally clean, although seemed a bit worn out, but nonetheless I would recommend it to anyone visiting Matsumoto and looking for a calm and relaxing stay. Finally, the hotel was also providing a free shuttle bus in the morning to the city center and the staff was also very welcoming and friendly, and would always try to help even when there would be some language barrier.

We recently completed another vacation with stays in the Grand Hyatt Taipei, the Westin Seoul (should not even be included in this group of hotels because we would not return), the Conrad Tokyo, ANA Crowne Plaza Kanazawa, and the Kai Matsumoto--so we had a chance to compare several hotels. We stayed 1 night at Hoshino Resorts Kai Matsumoto. We highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a private onsen experience in Matsumoto. However, we want to lower people's expectations by pointing out the GREAT and just Good. Yes, the overall experience was awesome! We loved our onsen, and the garden terrace. (TIP, the afternoon sun was beating on us around 4pm. It wasn't that it was too hot, we were there early April when it was quite cold. But the sun was in our eyes which made it uncomfortable to soak in the onsen. So ask about that and try to get a room that doesn't have that problem, if possible.) The garden was beautiful, and we can only imagine how awesome it would have been if the cherry blossoms were in full bloom (we were just a little early, but we can't complain too much because we caught full bloom in Tokyo). The room is very nice (but we have stayed in nicer rooms at other hotels) and the staff set up the futons while we were downstairs for dinner. As others have mentioned, the hotel is a good 20 minutes by taxi from the train station (and from the castle) so keep that in mind when planning your stay. We upgraded to the special Wagyu dinner, and while everything was beautifully presented (and we loved the temari ball bowls), the food was just good, not great. Please don't expect Michelin quality food. As long as you keep that in mind, you will be fine. We LOVED that the hotel brought out a glass of champagne and special decorations to celebrate my partner's birthday. (Thanks goes to Mieko at the Conrad Tokyo for informing Kai Matsumoto about James's upcoming birthday!) Unfortunately, we missed the concert because James was not feeling well. Lastly, I can't remember the gentleman assigned to help us our first evening. But he showed us around our room after we checked in and he was our server for dinner. He was EXCELLENT! Good English, and great attitude and excellent customer service! Overall, we highly recommend visiting! Just don't set your expectations too high!

I've been to Ryokan in Japan before but Yumoto Saito topped up my ryokan experience to another level. Service - All the staff was super helpful and friendly. They really did try to help us even a little small request at midnight. Apart from the room, their service would be another reason for me to go back to stay at this place again. I really felt like home. Room - We booked a villa at the Kaizen-sou villa, the same building with public onsens. The room was spacious and clean. We even had our own toilet (which was a relief for us!) The bonus point was we have our own outdoor bath that we can overlook the mountain view by ourselves. I totally recommended staying at the Kaizen-sou villa if you have a chance. There's no wifi in the room. But we wouldn't bother about it that much because we have such a nice view for us to enjoy. Food - Our room was also included dinner and breakfast and they served us at the private dining room. Yes, we felt super VIP! The food was AWESOME. They served with 10+ small plates that fill you up nicely. Onsen - OK, this is the best part of this ryokan. The public outdoor onsens were AMAZING. Imagine it's about 7c and you dip yourself in the hot onsen. Absolutely blessed! This ryokan is also famous for the onsen - it's white water onsen from the Shirahone onsen village. If you still decided whether you should stay at this ryokan, well, from my review I think you probably get the answer!

Our Host owners Noriko & Schinji and their sweet resident Dog Ko greeted us upon our late evening arrival in the rain! Our Rooms and the Onsen were both prepared and well cared for. This began the start of a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We rested up from days on the Nakasendo Trail, while all the small and thoughtful gestures made the difference in our experience. These details made us feel like we were in a private home setting, even though we were at a travelers Ryokan. Our Meals were delivered with precision; while every offered item was identified and explained in great detail; although in Japanese, the four of us figured it out with our English and small bits of Japanese the group knew. Schinji the chef, one of the owners, also created all meals. Each was crafted with such quality and skill, the best we had during our two weeks stay in Japan. On our departure day, the local typhoon was forecasted to hit the region. In very heavy rains, Noriko took the time and care to walk us to the bus depot, she awaited its arrival and ensured the bus driver knew of our destination goals. She even called our next destination to ensure they knew of our arrival time. We loved our stay and felt the 5 star service this Family operated business delivers to it's guest and travelers. We highly recommend Fuji -no-Yu Ryokan. We found our little Gem in Matsumoto...... Thank you!

Let’s talk about breakfast first: The breakfast is pretty good Japanese food, and the taste is average. The seaweed strips are too idle to eat. They are basically pickles. Apart from the good-looking ones, this should not be worth 2500 yen. (At first, I thought it was a buffet breakfast. I was looking forward to it) Room and hot spring: I didn’t take pictures of the internal room. The details are okay. The furniture is old and classical. There are still a few hairs on the sheets that I don’t know which part of the hair. I didn’t sleep well all night. The hot springs are just normal hot springs, no other effect Generally speaking, the price of 500 yuan is too expensive. The breakfast did not surprise me. The house is also old. The same price or lower price is a better place to live in Matsumoto. Transportation: It is very close to Matsumoto Castle and the Four Pillar Shrine is also very close because Matsumoto was originally very small. There are many hotels from Matsumoto Station to Matsumoto Castle. They are almost ten minutes walking distance, so the location advantage is not obvious.

We stayed in this traditional hotel in September 2018 for one night. Also the hotel has experienced better days, it is located within a wonderful garden with an exquisite view on Matsumoto. We had a traditional Japanese dinner which was one of the best on our whole journey through Japan. Although the cleanings of the hotel was discussed within other reviews on Trip Advisor we could not confirm those shortcomings. It would however be good, if the hotel would be repainted. If you would like to get to the city you should contact the hotel staff and they will drive you to the city. Altogether a very nice traditional Japanese experience!
