I chose this hotel because of its proximity to family we were visiting. It is clean and comfortable, except for the heating/AC. The outside temperatures were in the mid-50s. The unit could not be set for heating or cooling but only to the desired temperature. When it was on, the air blowing was freezing. When it was off, the room got uncomfortably warm. Still, the room was very quiet and otherwise comfortable and well furnished. We were especially impressed by the staff. The housekeeper spoke to us in a very friendly tone each time we encountered her in the hall. The receptionist spoke to us each time we passed the desk. The woman coordinating the breakfast spoke to all as she arrived and the one time we passed her in the hall, she greeted us in a very friendly manner. She was attentive about replenishing the food and kept the serving area very clean. The food was typical ”free hot breakfast” but always fresh and quickly replenished. The make-your-own waffles were better than most such waffles at other hotels.

We needed a hotel close to the airport for a one night stay prior to going to OBX. We didn't have a car but used the hotel's shuttle service with no issues. Staff here was very friendly and very accommodating. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable and the bathroom was clean and nicely updated. My roommate did have a problem with a cold shower but we were up early so maybe she was one of the first to use it?? I had no issues shortly afterwards. Breakfast was your typical hotel breakfast, nothing special but it was fine and we were able to find things we liked. Overall a very good stay.

I asked for privacy (Grade-5). I asked for Nonsmoking (Grade-1). Condition of furniture-rust under microwave (Grade-1). So I changed rooms..complete turnaround (Grade-5). BUT my key would not work requiring MULTIPLE trips to get replacements (grade-2). So after I settled in, it was average, BUT it took my assertiveness to get there. I should not have had to see rust under ANY circumstances. Silence in the hotel business is considered complacency. Staff should report up & make mgmt look good. Mgmt should make condition reporting a normalcy so they CAN look good.

I made the reservation through the Choice Hotels phone app at their Econolodge unit on I-64 Northhampton Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA.. The rate was quoted and paid in full in advance by credit card on the app. On arrival, the desk clerk advised that a local additional charge of $6 would be applied. If I have a guaranteed rate that's prepaid, I asked, what is the extra charge? I don't know, she says, I just have to add it. And so it begins. I arrive at the room that reeks of smoke. There's multiple cigarette burn damage to the plastic frame of the a/c unit. There's also a burn hole in the bedspread. This bedspread hole causes me to look at it closer to find that the beds (both of them) have been made up without blankets -- each bed has two sheets (top and bottom), two pillows in pillowcases and one thin bedspread. As I've been on the road all day, it's time to shower. At the bath, I find two thin washcloths -- no hand towel(s), no bath towel (s). This dicrepancy prompts a call to the front desk. I use the nightstand phone that goes straight to busy. I hang up, wait several seconds and it goes straight to busy. Again and again and again. After maybe 20 cycles of this nonsense, I use my cellular phone to call the hotel. An autoanswer says press ”0” for the front desk. After 15 seconds or so, the autoanswer recycles. I press ”0” again, wait it out, it recycles and I press ”0” again. This routine went on for 54 minutes. Now it's a trip back to the front desk. First we discuss the phone. She knows the house phone doesn't work but was surprised that the outside line failed. She got it to work while she talked to me. Then we come to the missing towels. There are none, she says. How can that be, I ask. None of the rooms have towels. The check-ins I'm doing now are going to rooms with no towels. When will you get towels? Maybe in the morning!!! Aren't towels part of the hotel experience? If you don't have towels the rooms shouldn't be in inventory. Sholder shrug. With nothing more to be said, I'm back to the room again and decide to call Choice Hotels to start a complaint report. I call the toll-free number to get an auto-answer about how important I am and they'll take my call in order. Twenty-one minutes later and probably 52 auto messages about how important I am to their organization, the auto-message changes to ”it's taking longer than normal to answer your call, please hang up and try again later.” 21 minutes it takes them. If they're not going to answer, tell me after the first minute rather than the 21st one. It seem, then, that there's absolutely nobody minding the store. Local management can't manage. National customer service can't customer serve. Where do you go when there's nowhere else to go -- except vote with your feet so that it never happens again -- at least with Choice and their Econolodge units. And don't get me started on the overflowing trash and refuse on the stairs and halls. The whole plac

On my way to Chincoteague, VA I made a quick stop in Virginia Beach. I stayed here because the TripAdvisor Reviews were good. This is a really nice Red Roof Inn. There appears to be a fridge and microwave in every room. Check in was quick and no hassle. The room was very clean. There was a soap and a shampoo in the tub with plenty of towels. The cable TV is excellent. It has several HBO channels and a variety of regular cable channels. The vending and ice machines are convenient. The wi-fi is good also. Some disappointments. The lobby is closed, so there is no coffee. There is also not a coffee maker in the room. You will have to go to a store off property to buy it. But there is a Dunkin, Panera, McDonalds and several convenience stores very close. Also, this is obviously an older motel so there are very few electrical outlets in the room. Usually there are some on the lamps or close to the bed. There was only one available on the wall across from the bed on the wall. And there is one by the vanity near the sink. There is a nice desk where you would normally put your computer to use, there there are no electrical outlets anywhere near the desk. So if you're staying here, it is a good place but be prepared. Bring extension cords and a coffee maker!! But it is definitely one of the better Red Roof Inns I've stayed at!

Visited Virginia Beach and chose this location quite honestly because they accepted our reward nights. It’s about 11 miles from Virginia Beach oceanfront. It’s located right at the exit so traveling to and from the beach was easy. This hotel is dated, but well maintained. Whoever is doing the property management for the property is doing an excellent job. Everything is freshly painted and clean. But again everything is dated. It would be a big plus if they could get rid of the popcorn ceilings and the rugs and install LVT instead (I wish all hotels would do this- it just feels cleaner). Our room had a fridge (which wasn’t really working) and a microwave. The gentleman from Colorado that checked us in upon arrival was very very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is not located in the best area, seems pretty industrial and it looked like a family had their vehicle broken into overnight. There were great places to eat though within 5-10 minutes of the property like YNot and SweetSpot.

The team at the front desk was very welcoming upon our arrival. Though obviously older, our room was nice and clean. The view was fabulous, as we had a full oceanfront view. Access to the beach was right outside the back door. The room has a refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast was decent and more than simple “continental style”. There were egg frittatas, home style breakfast potatoes, sausage patties and of course a make your own waffle station with lots of toppings, various breakfast pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit cocktail, fresh fruit options and a few juice options as well. We were close to the pier and lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Currently, floors 6-10 are already renovated and they cost more; maybe worth it. It took some effort to get/keep our room as cool as we like it. Overall, I would stay here again.

Shower nozzle came off a couple times, NO hot water the majority of the time, put in room for a person with disabilities but not needed, tub had black and pink mold around it, no trashcan in bathroom, stand for suitcase ”gnawed and wobbled badly”, a/c and ventilation did not work - called maintenance and they never showed, dried blood on the comforter, coffee maker gross and looked rusty, RATS- one came down from 2nd story balcony while we were on the patio outside the restaurant pretty sure from someone's room, no lighting on a few floors, only 1 elevator worked out of three, we used stairs the whole time and even if we needed the cart would have to go out, cross between buildings (which the ceiling was coming down between), hot tub never available as I found out the last day the ”PH balance was too high” so they closed it, ordered food from the restaurant - appetizer bacon wrapped scallops - $20 for TWO and when it came out there was a long hair on it, needless to say my appetite was lost for the evening. Ice machine didn't work except the 8th floor until 4 nights later, tiles in the floor not glued down, found a couple of those not very friendly for disabled individuals if I had been in this situation. Staff so/so depending on the function. When I went to check out I brought up my concerns and the girl at the front desk asked if I had called maintenance, which I let her know I had in fact called and they never showed. Others were complaining of carpets in their room smelling of urine - they allow pets in the hotel. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone ever.

My daughters favorite hotel on the beach - and the extra amenities for families allows me to work from the hotel if necessary - while my munchkin still has fun.. she loves the kids club even at 10 y/o and the private mini movie theater because she can go ”by herself” since I am only a few feet away. The indoor lazy river pool is a huge hit - and clean and maintained. The outdoor pool is BEACHFRONT..almost in the sand its so well located.The few times we have stayed there the staff was always above and beyond helpful. Downfalls - The A/C units could use an upgrade and the breakfast spot needs some decor upgrades but the food is REAL (not ”pretend scrambled eggs” ) and well prepared and service is good. I wouldn't consider it a ”Luxury” hotel and the seasonal prices are equal to the fancy competitors but I guess that depends on how you define luxury - my daughter would choose this hotel over the new Hilton without question.

Despite poor internet reception and a hard bed, this hotel is superior. I used to stay at a competitor for several years but time and Covid has taken a toll on it. Our last 3 visits have all been at this hotel. Location can’t be beat and the staff is very accommodating and pleasant. We visit several hotels and staffing doesn’t compare to the diamonds they have here. Looking forward to our next getaway and it will definitely be here.

It was a place to lay our heads for the evening and that is the best I can say, property was poorly maintained, the room was very old and quite dated, my daughter said “ this looks like a house from a scary movie” overall cleanliness was alright. The price was extremely high for what is offered and for being part of the choice hotel family I was extremely disappointed. As I told the front desk agent they can use a major makeover of the property overall to include the parking lot. Best part of the trip was the front desk agent Felicia was was very professional and accommodating if not for that it was a total bust honestly !!!!

I wanted to start by saying “how come nobody picks up their toll free number or even their regular line?” Maybe because I’m calling from Canada?!? And they don’t want my business?! or under new mgmt?!?Anyway I booked through their website and Thank God it was successful. This is our 4th visit here in the same place, Schooner Inn Virginia Beach… we love the area it’s quite and it’s near fishing spot (no need to pay unlike in the pier) But this visit was totally different since there was an event East Coast Surfing Championship and some Oceanfront Concert a lot of people around the area but it’s all good. My kids really had a blast after all this was a trip planned even before Covid hits, we waited for the borders to open. Now about the hotel… I would’ve given this hotel a 5 to 4 stars because of the disappointment about calling their front desk even my phone in our room doesn’t work, good thing I have roaming so I can call within the area. From 4 to 3 stars… kitchenette needs new utensils and some serious cleaning, vents, toilet seats and paints. I pretty sure the housekeeping people are doing the best they can and the one who’s in charge on our floor she’s very nice always asking if we need anything. Lastly… I don’t mind the smell of **** (I’m frm Canada thats normal) but within the elevator with kids around I mean c’mmon atleast have some air freshner. We’re still coming back for sure and I hope by then some stuff are updated and they’ll pick up their phones.

Staying in two places of BW in a row, the beach parking and staying, the scenery is particularly good. The breakfast was poor and the room was small. The ocean view room is a great place to watch the sunrise. From time to time, you can see fighter aircraft training or cruising at low altitude. Going to the beach is definitely a great decision.

Located at the lower end of beach, it is convenient to the ocean beach, and restaurants. Pool looked inviting, but was geared to the younger crowd. Remodeled bathroom and tile, although it was incomplete in spots, on balcony. Check- in is weird as done on an iPad with remote agent. This hotel also charged an “xtra” fee at check-in. Night agent is very rude- and pulling up to register is not convenient. Parking is across the street and not on property. Rooms are mostly partial ocean view . We managed, but probably not stay here again.

What a pity that in such a central location, there is little pleasure to be had from staying at this hotel. The receptionist was cold and unsmiling, with not a hint of welcome. The room had a decent bed, but with only a sheet and cover. There were two polyester blankets on a shelf and I had to unzip them and put both on the bed to get reasonably warm in the cold and windy May weather. The room heater/cooler is a metal box attached to the wall right next to one of the beds. Every time the thermostat turns it on or off the noise is enough to jolt you awake. I ended up wearing foam earplugs. There is no breakfast available in the hotel, and no microwaves in the rooms. Although arriving by car is pretty much the only option, parking is charged at $7 plus tax a night. After leaving here, I checked in at a hotel of similar standard and vintage at my next destination, Ocean City, and the contrast was striking: a super friendly receptionist, a full comforter on the bed, a restaurant with breakfast for purchase and free parking. There are dozens of other options along Virginia Beach: choose one of them instead of this place.

This was not what I expected at all. I needed 2 beds for 3 people. I booked a double studio. Please understand that these beds are very small. Full size maybe. AC unit was extremely loud. Had to turn it off to get some sleep but I’m sure the bed also contributed to my sleep issue. When I asked about changing rooms, it’s $50 for a room cleaning fee and $80 to upgrade a Queen bed with a Queen pullout sofa. Also, the building we are in has 1 adult pool. I have a child why would you place me in this building? The building next door has all the amenities, pools, fitness center, recreational activities. You have to walk outside to enter the other building. For the AC unit noise, they say they will send someone to check it out. Idk…

Our stay at the Ocean Sands in Virginia Beach was highlighted by the excellent hospitality given by Quinn, Charles, Daniel and the rest of the hospitality team at Ocean Sands Virginia Beach Va. We were scheduled to stay at the Ocean Key but it was closed for renovations. When we arrived Quinn saw to it that we were checked in expeditiously with all the accommodations that we needed for our stay.

window had previous persons lip and face marks where they pressed face against window probably children. musty smell plus 2 chairs outside with red stain that looked initially like blood and on wall. I figured probably a red drink though. Electric not hotels fault went out for hour or 2 second day. hotel is not on beach it's across street from other hotels. parking spots are tight. Virginia Beach itself is amazing.

The location of the hotel is excellent, parking is convenient, and the sea view is invincible. The living room and bedroom of the suite are separated for easy sea view and rest. You can sit in the living room and watch the sea, or you can go to the balcony to see the wider sea. It is worth mentioning that the balcony windows are very soundproof. Breakfast is also very good. If the air conditioning sound is a little smaller, the wireless network effect is better, it is perfect.

It was a pleasant surprise to see a fully equipped kitchenette with high-quality utensils. Very clean and spacious room. Only suggestion for the hotel management is, please provide at-least 3 chairs; for a double queen bed suite, 2 chairs are not sufficient. The noises from the lobby and hall can be heard from the rooms which can disturb your sleep. The management should take care of this. There was no toothpaste in the bathroom. For tea, coffee etc, one have to ask at the front desk. Hotel does not provide any info on travel guide/sight-seeing. One have to plan ahead and get all the info about sight-seeing themselves.

I saw some of the reviews for this place, after I stayed here. I was surprised at the confusion. Clearly all the issues mentioned did not meet me here. it is a nice hotel that is exterior corridor which does not allow pets. Staff is wonderful and caring in each instance that does not deserve what is published here on this site. Also management should be proud of what they are doing here in the most positive way. Rooms are clean and newly renovated. Lots of places to eat with 2 shopping malls within walking distance. Rest assured I will be back to check out the area on my next stay.

The hotel itself was CLEAN! From the lobby to the breakfast area to the lobby to our room, it was just clean. It was so refreshing to see the hotel so cared for. Our room was spotless, I always take wipes to clean hotel rooms we stay in, I will admit this is the first hotel I did not find dirt. The breakfast was different everyday of the week, each day there were ate least three hot choices, fresh waffles, and tons of regular fare like cereal, boiled eggs, yogurt etc. The staff was amazing. I did not talk to the front desk much, but the staff at breakfast and our room attendant were very nice. We ordered pizza one night and sat in the expanded lobby area, fun. And the pool was nice sized. I read in some of the reviews prior to leaving that the hotel was older. Maybe, but I saw nothing that was not nice, clean and in perfect shape. The location was right on the boardwalk beach, with a shower for our feet right outside the front door, great location. We will definatly stay here again.
