The hotel is quite satisfactory, the rooms are small and the facilities are okay. The parking lot is spacious and free. There are not many supermarkets and places to eat around. The price/performance ratio is so-so.

It’s pretty sad when you get caught on the highway in a traffic jam for over 6 hours then you finally get to hotel to checkin, go to your room to find out that the keycards don’t work so you go back to front desk to get 2 more keycards to get in your room to find out that they don’t work either. Then the person at front desk brings up more keycards to try before you finally get into your room after 30 to 45 mins. You get into room to find out the bathroom has hair on the toilet and in the shower. So really it was a terrible experience cause after finally getting in my room I got maybe 4 to 5 hours sleep before I had to checkout by 11am. So no I wouldn’t recommend this place as a good place to relax and stay

Stayed here 3 nights for work. The location of this property was great and overall it’s a specious and up to date. Checkin was average. As last time I stayed here had no mention of status, I called on the way and asked if they had any suites available. They said yes and gave me a price. When I checked in, there was no mention of upgrade. When I asked, they said they were sold out… checkin was fast and I was in my way. The studio room was nice but lots of cleanliness issues; the ac unit was filthy. Looked like someone bled on it. The windows also filthy. When the sun hit them it was disgusting. The carpets full of dirt and lint.. looked like a while since it had a solid vacuum. She shower grout had lots of black mold and the bathroom wallpaper also dirty. One thing I did appreciate was the opening windows and the friendliness of the breakfast staff. This could be an excellent property if they made an effort to recognize status and to focus on cleanliness. The front sidewalk to the right of the door( when coming out ) was absolutely covered in cigarettes butts. This was the entire week so certainly not something that happened in between cleaning. Hopefully this can improve as I do prefer Marriott for my status. Jeff

My husband, our baby and I checked in late when we arrived to Thunder Bay at about 2:30am The gentleman who checked us in was great and personally came to the room and offered us a complimentary 12:00pm late check out. We slept well, beds were ok and cleanliness of the room was ok. The morning is when the stay turned bad. We were awaken by the front desk staff at 10:45 with loud banging on the door. This was a very rude awakening especially so early after a long day and night of driving and needing all the sleep we could get. My husband let him know we had a late check out and the man went away. We then turned on the tv to watch the morning news and get back on the road. Well the tv did not work. Not a huge deal though. So on check out, we asked if we could have a bit of a deal on the room for the rude awakening and the television not working. I was told by the front desk clerk that he could give a discount on the room at the expense of the 250 dollars security deposit charged to my card. So obviously I didn’t accept the offer. The manager was there and I asked her if there was anything she could do about it. She immediately got defensive saying we should have told them the tv was broken and they would fix it.(I had already told the front desk it was not working and they checked it and confirmed the satellite box was not powering up and was broken). She then began to let me have it about how I wasn’t charged for late check out so it’s not their fault we were awaken long before our check out time and she would check video cameras to see what time exactly we were woken up. I told her this was terrible customer service and to forget the whole thing and we didn’t need a discount that bad. I remained calm as she did not. As we were getting in our vehicle she came storming out the door yelling at us that we got the 89 dollar a night room and that’s the best deal in town and rumbling other things we couldn’t hear as she had her backs to us at this point. This was not enough for this manager. We were on the road for about 20 minutes at this point and received a call from her(the manager) telling us she checked the security footage and we were lying about when the man banged on the door and that we had smashed the bed against the satellite plug and that why the didn’t work.(the plugs were behind the desk and entertainment stand… not our bed) we will never be staying at this location again. This manager really needs to learn customer service from her night time staff who were excellent to deal with.

The sheets were crumpled like no replacement, the air in the room was not good, and it was not a taste. There is no elevator in the hotel, and seven or eight pieces of luggage are going to move upstairs. Speaking a little off topic, from Vancouver all the way to the east to the place, I found that the hotels here are generally very expensive, because it is almost 1000 kilometers to the east to find a slightly like hotel, all the way is a small motel It can be seen that this is a stop where driving must stop. The supermarkets, gas stations and restaurants here are very expensive! Come catch up with Vancouver.

One night stay on a Monday night. Room was nice enough, breakfast in the third floor breakfast room was good - seems to mostly the usual pre-made food but the ”quiche” and some nice sourdough bread felt a little bit nicer than at some other hotels. Location seems just okay to me - the things we wanted to do were a bit more ”downtown” but I suppose that depends on what you are doing while you are in town. Close to the airport, several restaurant options and two Metro grocery stores. Seemed like one of the better Thunder Bay options we had available given the corporate rate I got.

Not the usual quality for a Wyndham hotel. Very disappointed. Building is an old motel. Entrance and reception area were redecorated quite nicely though. Room was small, shower curtain was filthy, one of the shampoo canisters in the shower stall was missing, was only given one set of towels for two people. There was something on the wall covered in a facecloth, did not dare look underneath the face cloth, peep hole in door was replaced with cardboard, carpet old and stained, dated decor, phone in room did not work, no fridge in room, no breakfast, no elevator. Restaurant in hotel was not open and desk staff was not very helpful in finding a restaurant near by. When we reserved the room we specified that we were looking for a hotel with restaurant inside the hotel they did not mention that the restaurant would be closed. Drunk young man in front foyer of hotel swearing loudly into cell phone for quite some time but hotel staff was not trying to deal with him at all. Would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

We always book a room at the Valhalla Inn on our way through Thunder Bay, and usually look forward to staying. Unfortunately, this trip was a disappointment and will likely be our last. We stayed in a king studio drive up. Soon after arriving and settling in we found that a light in the suite wasn't working, and the sliding door from the suite to the parking lot was broken (both the latch and the charlie bar), apparently the result of a recent break-and-enter. We returned to the front desk and were offered a different room. The new room reeked of cigarette smoke and so we returned to the front desk again and indicated we could stay in the original room if someone would fix the door. A very plesant maintenance worker was in and out of the room a few times and ultimately secured the door with a broom stick. When we approached the front desk to request compensation for the poor room condition and disruption to our evening we were informed no compensation was possible as we had booked our trip with Expedia. Furthermore, the front desk employee was curt and unapologetic for the inconvenience. When we travel we opt to pay a little more to feel safe, comfortable and welcome. The Valhalla failed to meet these expectations and next time through the city we plan to explore the Best Western Plus Norwester.

We drove from Toronto to Manitoba and back, stayed in several hotels along the way, and this one was our favourite. Rooms are clean and spacious and everything is done right. Our stay was relaxing and comfortable. And the customer service was exceptional: when we first arrived, due to a mix-up (caused by booking.com), the gentleman at the front desk couldn't find our reservation. But even though they were fully booked, he not only found a (better!) room for us but also gave us a significant discount ”for the trouble” (which turned out not to be their fault anyway). He still honoured that even after he eventually found our original reservation in their system.

We tried many locations for a room for the night when we came into Thunder Bay on a road trip. After 5 hotels said they were full we called the Nor’ Western. Staff were very friendly and helpful from the first phone call to find out if they had a room and they did. Lana in the restaurant was very friendly and so easy to talk to. We are so happy we ended up here for the night before going to Winnipeg. The patio area is beautiful. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We would gladly stay here again.

Traveling across Canada for a move and when arriving to Thunder Bay we were left with no place to stay. And the few places that was left were way outside our budget or did not accept pets. Reviews were not that great so we were sceptical about this hotel. But we had no choice. We were amazed of the great service we got and room was amazingly big, very clean and no smell at all. You have to take in consideration that this is an old building so you do not get the luxury snd structures if a newly built hotel but for just passing by for an over night sleep, we cannot complain. The only thing that was missing was furniture as we only had two beds and a night stand. Overall we were satisfied and way better then what the bad reviews were saying.
