The communal areas are clean and pleasant. The hotel itself is very dated and the rooms look like they're stuck back in the seventies but not in a charming way.. We came from Kyoto after 5 hours journey we were give a room that was mouldy, stained carpets, windows that haven't seen a cleaning for months.. After we complained in the reception, no one would speak English and they used an ipad that would connect to a translator via video call (smart), we were given a better room with wood floors and a lot more presentable. Unfortunately that ruined our experience because it took 3 hours to deal and the manager made himself unavailable... Be aware if you come off season the pool and outside bar are closed. That is not mentioned in any of the booking platforms. Having said that, we felt that we were sold something different from what is advertised and after the whole negative experience we felt we would rather leave and go back to Tokyo. Part of that decision was also based that the beach is not very well suited to lay on the sand and relax and this probably only off season, because the seaweed invade the whole beach and flies fester on it and you can't have 10 seconds rest on the sand. Come here for surf not for lazing around. Unfortunately a negative experience and would not return based on that.

A really wonderful hotel to stay in - excellent service from all the staff. A lovely clean and decent-sized room and a good sea view. We opted for dinner and our two evening meals were some of the highlights of our two weeks in Japan. The hotel also has a great onsen facility which we used extensively. The hotel is focussed on Japanese guests which means you get an authentic Japanese experience - exactly what we wanted. Staff know just enough English to help out when needed and one of the waitresses was particulalry helpful in explaining what we were eating! You could tell she was really proud (justifiably) of the standard of food we were getting. I'd very much recommend this hotel if you want to have a Japanese experience.

I recommended this hotel by relatives in Japan, great! Sea view room, the room is spacious and quiet. Breakfast is also very good. The hotel's spa is perfect! The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Jr Station. The surrounding streets are quiet and there are not many shops, suitable for travelers who want to be quiet.

I had been to Katsuura once before for a martial arts seminar specifically set up for foreigners in Japan who study it. And up until then, that was the only reason to go there. That is until one day I'm told we're going out to Blueberry Hill for the weekend. I wasn't aware that this was in the same town but luckily it was and that meant I knew my way around. The hotel is very nice and it's set up with cottages of sorts. There's a little sitting area, a couple beds, and a lobby in each where you can hang out, chill and maybe enjoy a beverage from the vending machine. The restaurant on site was very good. There was a pond, some trails nearby and it's right by the ocean as well so it's nice and relaxing.

I spent a Saturday night with wife and 1yr old child looking for somewhere we could escape the bustle of the city. This place got some awards on Rakuten travel so decided to check it out. Stayed in a room on second floor in the main building. It was comfy and clean. We didn't have a shower in the room but the outdoor onsen was worth the short walk. Alcohol spray bottles were placed everywhere, which is a plus right now. Amenities seemed to exceed what I see at other ryokan with things shaving cream, gargle solution, and makeup remover (for wife). Even had a humidifier. I noticed there was a pretty big kids playground but couldn't try it out due to the rain. Dinner was bbq with lots of variety in meat and veggies. The bar was cozy with a modern cabin style feel to it. Looked newly built, and everything has a good quality feel to it. Breakfast was shabu shabu (a first but good), bacon (japanese style) and eggs, with tons of other side dishes. Staff were professional and nice. The cat cafe and the "glamping" tents looked pretty cool. Definitely unique to see all these things in one place. Want to come back to try out the other things when kid gets older.
