My room was small, barely decorated and felt like a college dorm room - but it did the trick for a night in Salzburg. The front desk was friendly and I was impressed by the breakfast selection and the fact that their luggage room was very secure. This is a bit of a hike from the central train station so taking a cab was necessary - but in terms of location for sightseeing, this can’t be topped. You can walk everywhere! The WiFi connection did leave something to be desired, otherwise, I would absolutely recommend this hotel for a basic, no frills traveler and will stay again when in Austria!FromUS$86.00

We had a great experience from start to finish. Check in was so easy, we received a lot of information on the town and sites, maps, etc. The lady that helped us also called and made a reservation for dinner for us that night and canceled another reservation for us. Wow! Our room was perfect, lots of closet space, drawers and hooks to hang towels/robes/etc. The heated bathroom floor was a nice touch. Also coffee, tea and water in the room that was refreshed every day. A welcome drink was offered to us the afternoon we arrived, which was another nice touch. The breakfast would bring me back to this hotel on our next trip to Salzburg. Anything you could want for breakfast, everything is so fresh, the staff is replenishing items constantly. We ordered the omelet a couple of days too, fantastic. The Sauna and steam area was awesome, we had planned to visit a spa somewhere in the area, but instead took advantage of the sauna area here instead. We did like that this hotel was a short walk from the train station and to the historical center. And finally, every morning there was information provided on the breakfast tables with info of the day in Salzburg. We wouldn't have known about the awesome Thursday market that was right around the corner if it weren't for this little booklet. The room was a decent size, the water pressure great (and hot water abundant), our bed very comfortable, and the overall noise level inside and out was very low. Very happy with our room and the cleanliness. The front desk staff were all very helpful. A special shoutout to Christina who helped guide us to taxis, the easiest way to the Christmas Markets, and recommended restaurants in the area. Every time we had a question, she seemed happy to help. The location was perfect. Situated right on the #2 bus/trolley line, you can easily get here from the airport (the bus stopped right across the street from the hotel). Some of the major tour companies begin about 2 1/2 blocks away from the hotel, so very easy to get to. Plus, it was only a 6-8 minute walk across the river to the shopping district and Old Town area. It's close to restaurants and a few bars too. Would be a lovely spot in the summer months!FromUS$102.00

The Cityhotel is conveniently located in the city centre of Salzburg - 5 mins by cab from the train station, and in a beautiful and quiet part of the old town. We stayed in one of the larger double bedrooms and were impressed with the amenities offered in a 3-star hotel. The room was very clean and cosy; there was a bottle of water and a fridge, plus a really convenient gadget to support your stay in Salzburg - essentially a smartphone with free guides and tours that you can take with you when exploring the city. Haven't come across such an offering before but thought this was a really smart idea! The hotel is quiet, the beds are amazingly comfortable and we were able to order our breakfast to the room the day before, which felt very safe in times of COVID. Breakfast was delicious, with a wide variety of bread, some cake and pastries, as well as yoghurt and fruits accompanied by your choice of coffee or tea. For those that like to really splash on their morning coffees, you have your personal Nespresso machine in the room to top-up on that lovely caffeine! This hotel is beautifully renovated providing modern amenities with the old world charm of Austria. There are 37 rooms with 70 beds total. An elevator is available with only a few stairs to reach your room. Charming furniture and art decorate the lobby and rooms. The staff is welcoming, friendly and helpful with information and booking of tours or a taxi. Breakfast included has both made to order eggs as well as an ample cold buffet. You are on the opposite side of the river from the Salzburg fortress and shopping area but it is only a 5 minute walk to cross the river. The hotel has good local restaurants within a block of the hotel. Bakery and shops all along the street. From the main train station it is about 8 euros for a taxi to the hotel. Our room had a mini refrigerator, gorgeous marble bathroom with heated floors and very comfortable beds. Free wi fi worked very well. Upon arrival be sure to buy the Salzburg Karte which can be bought at a Tabak Trafik a block from the hotel and many other places. It can be 24, 36 or 72 hours and gets you into 35 tourist attractions for free as well as taking all the local buses for free as well. It pays for itself as soon as you begin seeing sites. The brochure in the hotel lobby shows you what is included and how much each attraction costs without using the card. Take bus 25 out to the Untersberg to take a cable car up to the top of the mountain outside Salzburg for wonderful views. This is also included in the card. The Sound of Music tour is wonderful if you love the movie, even if you don't it drives you out to Berechtesgaden and along beautiful scenery to the Mondsee which if you don't have a car is a way to see some of the countryside as well as learn about Salzburg while hearing about the movie. .Our stay at the Hotel am Markt was perfect. We loved everything about our too brief stay at the seminary. Hotel is stunning from the outside. When the uber dropped us off we were both in disbelief that this was where we were staying. Reception was very kind, courtyard is beautiful and the cat that hangs out there was adorable. The inside of the building is airy and spacious, there is an elevator, and our room was very large and clean also and beds were comfortable. Wifi worked well, and we did our laundry (a little complicated and not free but still appreciated). Breakfast the next morning was lovely. A hot food option would be a welcome addition, but the dining area is large and extremely well-kept and the staff are very nice and clear your dishes for you. Overall an excellent value and we wished we could have stayed longer. FromUS$75.00

We stayed Salzburg for few days in December as we are very interested to visit Mozart’s footprints. This is a very convenient hotel to tour around Salzburg. We are happy that the hotel managed to arrange an early check-in at around 1pm after we arrived from train station. Then, we could drop down our baggage and head to lunch! We enjoyed the food recommendation by hotel reception. In the early morning, we were always the first guests to enter the cafe for breakfast with our children. We could feel the professional and friendly catering service for all of us! The hotel is located at the old town and it is very assessable to places we visited. While the rooms are newly renovated, there is no hook nor clothes hanging places for tower or clothes in the bathroom. It also looked a bit messy as we have to bend down and place our own shampoo on the bathroom showering floor area after use (while the hotel did provide the house brand shampoo).FromUS$168.00

Chose this hotel because it's near to mirabelle palace and also because it's family owned. I always enjoy staying in accommodations that are family owned because they serve with all their hearts. We are able to park on the street after 5pm for free till the next morning which is really convenient. The room is very big for 3 people with 3 big luggages. Like a typical old European accommodation, the bathroom and toilet are being separated which is a little inconvenient as there is no wash basin in the toilet. Staff were all really helpful and friendly when we asked for directions or reccomendations on food. Breakfast was free and the spread was good. It comes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Bread was also served hot in the mornings. We were able to leave our luggages in the hotel after we check out. Definitely would stay there again if I ever go back to Salzburg.FromUS$72.00

Starting from our booking, our special requests were granted and we were actually assigned rooms next to each other and close to elevator which was a thoughtful gesture since we were 2 families travelling together. Room was clean (carpet as well) and the size was good even with a pack-n-play. King bed was one mattress and very comfortable and the pack n play sheets were actually colorful. Coffee/tea making facilities were in good condition and restocked daily. Bathroom was clean, had ample lightning, shower pressure was good and amenities include a hairdryer. We also used room service wich was prompt and efficient, food was freshly made and served warm. The property is located on a very quiet street, next to a park with a playground, ideal to entertain young kids, and a short walk to the train station. A super market is a 5 min walk from the hotel. The only thing we would comment is the fact that it is a 20 min walk to the center of Salzburg so that is something to consider if you would like something closer. It is however a pleasant and safe walk that we enjoyed since we had mostly sunny days while in Salzburg. Parking is on-site with an additional fee. We rented 2 rooms here on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for my husband, myself and my 2 daughters in their 20s. A few weeks beforehand I emailed the hotel about restaurant reservations and Mass times for the holiday and they were very helpful with providing answers to both. Staff onsite during our stay were very nice and helpful as well. As other reviewers have mentioned, the location is in the new town rather than the old town. It was a 10-15 minute walk to the Sound of Music tour, Mirabellplatz, and the beginning of the old town. It probably wouldn’t be a problem in the nice weather but it was cold and rainy during our time there. Luckily street parking was free for the holiday so we drove and parked around Mirabellplatz and then walked into the old town. We also paid 15 euro a day to park at the hotel. Breakfast was average and similar to what we had seen on this 10 day trip to Germany and Austria. They had cheeses, cold meats, cereal, yogurt, fruit, homemade bread & jams and eggs - scrambled and hard boiled - no hot meats like sausage or bacon though. The rooms were a bit on the smaller side with no mini fridge but the beds were comfortable and it was clean. The WiFi was very strong and we were able to stream a movie on our laptop at night. At other hotels on this trip that was not possible. Our room had a clear shower so if you were hanging your coat/clothes in the storage area, you could see another person in the shower. We found similar rooms in Germany where the bathroom had a clear door, so I guess that’s a style around here but we did not like it. Our rooms were on the 2nd floor and it was very warm. We actually had the windows open and a stand up fan on (provided in the room) at night. Since it was Christmas time, there wasn’t much open nearby but we did find an awesome Italian restaurant only 2 blocks away that we enjoyed - Ristorante Beccofino. We also enjoyed our Christmas Eve dinner reservation at BRAURESTAURANT IMLAUER. All in all, this was a decent budget friendly hotel if you don’t mind being outside of the old town. FromUS$102.00

We recently stayed for four nights at the Hotel Markus Sittikus - and loved everything about it. Our room contained two single beds pushed together as well as a comfortable sofa and armchair, The helpful staff provided us with extra pillows and a kettle so we could make tea and read in bed. An absolute must for Brits abroad! Breakfast was generous and delicious served by attentive waiting and kitchen staff. Thanks for the homemade cakes - they were delicious. The place is positioned very near the Number 2 bus stop which goes out to the airport so no need for expensive taxis. The old town and the railway station are both an easy walk away. We stayed here for a week in February it was very central ,once we got our bearings for the old town, concert venues, shops and restaurants. The reception staff were exceptionally helpful and booked concert tickets for us, got us taxis. . .the weather was awful, and answered our questions about trains etc. The room was comfortable the toiletries lovely and stylish, the bathroom clean. We enjoyed a very pleasant breakfast each day with a good choice of hot and cold offerings. The only thing missing was a place to lounge. The foyer had a bar but no comfortable seating to enjoy a drink and a read at the paper or some of the promotional pamphlets. Would we use it again? YES.

Was nearly put off this hotel after reading some reviews but was much better than expected. The staff are really friendly and helpful - nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was also better than expected - practically perfect scrambled eggs!! This is not a 5 star hotel but there is a very nice bar area and a steam/sauna which we didn’t use though they provide towels. The rooms were clean, roomy and very comfortable. It is a bit of a walk into town - about 20-25 minutes depending on your pace but you can always get a taxi into the main part of town for about 10 Euros.

Stayed here for 2 nights for Christmas markets and a sound of music trip. Location was closed to train station which was what we wanted. 20 minute walk to old town which was great for us. The room was a bit dated and had no usb charging ports. It was clean and spacious. Bathroom was good size but needs updating. The toilets downstairs beside the restaurant were beautiful and modern so maybe planning to update from the bottom floor upwards. Staff were courteous and friendly. The executive lounge was adequate but we had to let them know as each time we went in there was nothing set out but within a few minutes each time it was refreshed. The pure orange in executive lounge was excellent and a very nice touch. Breakfast was lovely each morning with a good choice available. I struggle to order poached egg in German one morning and the staff went over and beyond to bring this to us. Excellent and very much appreciated service. Overall good hotel with excellent staff but rooms need a bit of updating

Worst Hotel ever!! Do not get tricked by their photos. Falsely advertisement. Their rooms are disgustingly dirty, and the smell was intoxicating. The management handled by the rude Indian staff. He was very defensive when we were upset that the hotel does not have an elevator, as stated in Trip.com. He gave us two ground floor rooms 601 and 602; we were utterly shocked that the smell in the rooms was horrible. The staff even wanted to charge us extra 450€ for additional guests. We booked a larger family room. At the end, we requested a full refund, he said non-refundable and ignored us. He left the building for a while. We had to find different accommodation as we had an elderly grandma and three kids who were tired from a long journey. Disappointed by Trip.com as well, at first they asked for photos of evidence and after a few emails of complaints, they offered an emotional compensation of 55£. What a joke! After being a loyal customer for some time, I can say that will be my last choice. DO NOT BOOK with trip.com as well. Not helpful. Never choose Itzlinger Hof!!!!

This place was established in 1901, and probably left like that ever since. How this place has such a high rating is beyond me when the TV is terrible quality and limited channels. The room is setup in such away only one person can watch TV, not 2 people. The mattress is so thin and worn it is hollow in the middle with no support. So creeky was the room each time you turned over in your bed it woke you up. Hairdrier pathetic. Breakfast is so boring and uninteresting. Coffee served was cold. In summary, its like the opening scene of those cheap horror movies of the 60's where the family sit around and wait to die. I think people love Salzburg and it being close to sites and quiet equate that to the hotel being good. Even my son, who travels and is the easiest person in the world to please when it comes to hotels said it was in his worst bottom 3 hotels in Europe he has ever been to.
