I recently stayed at then Red Roof Inn in Hickory North Carolina. I was very impressed not only with the price, but with the staff as well. Jenifer at the front desk was very courteous and went above and beyond to help me pick the room that best suited my needs at the time. The room was exactly what I was looking for. I would defiantly recommend the Red Roof Inn to anyone staying in Hickory North Carolina.

The location is very easy to find, just at the high speed side, the disadvantage is that high-speed noise will be transmitted to the house at night. It is convenient to pick up the car and breakfast is OK. It is also close to the nearby business district and can't be reached.

The Courtyard is a very nice hotel amid a cluster of similar properties. It is older, but is aging well. The room was refirbished since our last stay a number of years ago, was exceptionally clean and maintained in new condition. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. At 3 AM, a party staying on our floor came in loudly, sounding like they were moving furniture, banking on walls, and yelling at each other. That, of course, wasn't the hotel's fault, but will factor into our decision to stay there again. The big TV was great EXCEPT when it would freeze about 20 minutes into a program and have to be turned off and on again to get back to the program (finally decided I didn't want the hassle). The big negative for me was the very low commode; you almost have to sit on the floor! Bummer. Other than the noise at 3 in the morning, if not for the commode seat being almost on the floor and the bothersome TV, I'd easily rate this property "excellent."

I booked this hotel for my daughter and I for a night while she had a tournament in town. I booked it based on reviews but the primary draw was the indoor pool. When we checked in we were told the pool would not be open until the next day (we were only staying on night). We were told we could go next door to the Fairfield Inn and use their pool. That was a safety issue. As a lone female I'd have to cross a parking lot in the dark with a young child in tow into a hotel we were not guests in. The hotel was well kept, the breakfast bar delicious and staff friendly. However for the price per night I do believe we should have been offered compensation (discount??) for the pool being unavailable during or stay or notified prior. I would have booked next door had I known and avoided disappointing my child. Also I picked the second floor thinking it would be more secure than the first with less foot traffic. However, I got there to find out that the 2nd floor has a door that opens to a parking lot so it's not as secure for women/children travelers as you may think.

We walked in without reservations and used a hotel coupon for a discounted rate. We were stopping for the night so the room rate for a queen bed was very reasonable. Our room was clean. Small with a queen bed but everything was working. The restaurant is convenient to restaurants. They serve a typical breakfast, but it had fresh fruit and even biscuits and gravy. Overall this is a hotel we will return to because of the reasonable price and location.

We seniors with grandson stayed one night in a King Suite. Can't comment on "value" because this was free with points, but is was all around excellent. Hickory has unusual street naming so you have to get this address into your GPS precisely in order to get here. We had two mistakes using Siri that cost us about 10 mi. This was a clean, modern motel, two floors, no elevator. Comfortable bedding with those half size pillows. Sofa bed was good for our large grandson. Excellent breakfast with lots of choices. Good, quiet AC. Good TV. Lots of outlets. Outdoor pool looked nice but we did not use it.

Stayed here the last weekend and would really recommend, with one caveat. This is a lovely property, good breakfast and generally courteous and welcoming staff, except for the housekeeper. My husband hadn’t slept well and was feeling a bit below par, so was sleeping in at 11.30am - checkout is noon. Housekeeping staff were in the corridor outside, knocking loudly on doors and bellowing (and I’m not exaggerating), “HOUSEKEEPING!” I thought we’d be immune from this behavior, because I’d placed the Do Not Disturb notice on our door. To my surprise, we too were targeted with this behavior. I opened the door, only to be told aggressively by the housekeeper that our door had been open - a lie. Silently, I held up the Do Not Disturb notice and then told her my husband wasn’t feeling too well, so please to come back later. A few minutes later, I went to reception and complained and the lady there could not have been nicer. She extended our checkout by an hour, which was above and beyond and said she’d speak to the housekeeper. As I returned to our room, I walked past the housekeeper and she smirked at me. Her attitude seemed to be that it was part of her job to get lazy hotel guests up and out of the rooms on time. No, actually, we’re entitled to enjoy the room we’ve paid for up until the checkout time, in peace and without disturbance - especially on a Sunday morning! I hope that she gets some extra training to help her understand this fundamental part of her job, that seems to have passed her by. When knocking on guests’s door, do so with appropriate decorum - not shouting like a fishwife - and if guests have placed a Do Not Disturb notice on the door, respect their wishes until after checkout time.

We started our stay, at the Days Inn - 13th avenue - in Hickory, NC - a few days before arrival before a conference. Our stay started out as an average stay at an average hotel. Check in. Go to the room. Leave for dinner and a conference. Come back. Go to sleep. Until about 1:30am... about 2 1/2 hours into our sleep. Then - the fire alarm began to go off - a pipe burst somewhere. A pipe bursts - in the fire alarm sprinkler system... never seen THAT before - and I've worked security for 35+ years. I called another Days Inn Conover - in Newton, NC. That was a mistake - but, we didn't know that then. And the Days Inn Conover desk clerk was fairly rude on the phone. No problem. It was about 2:30 am. I figured that he had not been hired for his exemplary customer service skills. We asked if a NON-SMOKING room was available and for how much. He told us. We agreed. We would be there in 20 minutes. We told other guests, at the 13th Avenue Days Inn - which was being evacuated - where we were going. They got rooms there too. Ooops. My bad. Sorry. When we arrived. The rude desk clerk was still rude. But, it was going on 3am. We were tired. We identified ourselves - he had spoken to us 20 minutes ago. But, then, he told us the rooms were $10.00 more than we were told. (Which was about $25 more than the conference rate we were GUARANTEED at the other Days Inn.) The rude desk clerk charged us more. We asked again for a non-smoking room. Fine. It was more money. But we were tired. We paid. The room stunk. Literally. It smelled like a BAD smoking room - that someone had tried to cover up with BAD rom spray perfume. But - we were tired. We ended up getting to sleep about 4am... and we had to wake up a few ours later for a meeting. We were in a SMOKING ROOM. Even though we had asked - twice - for a non-smoking room. Even though we were only in that room for about 4 hours - we were charged full price. We were supposed to be there, for the conference for three days. The day shift clerk was nice... but we still didn't get the conference rate. But, we did get a non-smoking room. Our stay was an average stay at an average hotel. You can do better. Don't do Days Inn. Especially not on 13th street in Hickory, NC.

The Hickory Inn provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. The Hickory Inn is an ideal choice for travelers who want to take in the sights and sounds of Conover. The hotel is located close to many of Conover's attractions including Springs Road Gun Club and Ice Castle Skating Rink. After a long day of sightseeing, guests can retire to the comfort of the hotel. This Conover hotel provides parking on site.
