We just had the dubious experience of staying at Reina Roja Hotel, an empty bathhouse, er, a “boutique hotel” in the center of PDC. We stayed there because we had read some places saying that it was one of the gay-friendly hotels in town. Regrettably, I did not log in to Travelocity and check the reviews (lesson learned!) First, the good (hey, can’t be all bad, right?): The TVs are upgraded and large. Breakfast is provided – and it’s OK for the most part. Parking is available for a small fee. The hotel is steps away from the famed tourist-trap Quinta Avenida, if you care to be that close to it. And, while it’s a weird design aesthetic, it is a coherent one; to me, it felt pretty creepy and liminal – which isn’t necessarily bad. Now, the bad: This is a NOISY place. Techno starts at ten AM and continues through the early morning hours. I had a falling rain soundtrack turned up to monsoon levels to mask the thump-thump-thump of techno. If you decide after this review to actually stay here, either drink yourself into a coma, bring lots of Ambien, and/or have great earplugs. Furnishings are sp**** and uncomfortable. For example, the bed is firm. Very firm. Klingon-style firm. The sofa was poorly padded as well – and there was only one bedside table. Lighting? Mostly for design, not practicality. No lighting conducive for reading, either by the bed or the sofa. Washcloths are hoarded like gold for some reason (I noted it in another review); we requested more than one, but didn’t get them. Water pressure in the shower? I know, shower issues are a common problem in Mexico - well, this place has them too. The rain shower head provided more of a drizzle (and small for a rain head) – and the temperature fluctuated wildly from just right to boiling hot in a split second. Don’t be tempted by the claims of “boutique”. Or the low price. You can find much better properties in the same price range.

It was OK, but not great. The shower half worked (just a dribble from the main head but the hand-held bit did work), the wifi pretty much only worked on the balcony and was still really slow at times, the ATM in the lobby didn't work when I wanted it (but did seem to be working a couple of days later). Staff could have been a bit more helpful to be honest - I had to go down and ask twice for towels after we'd checked in. It seems there's no restaurant on-site any more, you have to go across the street to a cafe for breakfast but that was fine (once we'd asked, might be better to tell guests that at check-in) and was variations on eggs, toast and coffee. As others have said, there's a bar across the (other) street that does play music but we didn't find it that disturbing in our room, only just audible over the aircon fan. Our travel agents booked us here as they couldn't find a room in a resort. I was very happy with the location: short walk to town but far enough from most of the noise. I can't understand why it was more expensive than an all-inclusive resort though, maybe location, maybe late booking / availability?

Too satisfied, this price is the lowest in the whole network. The room is large enough, two double beds, a foldable sofa bed, and a microwave. The facilities are modern, the socket on the lamp is particularly practical, and there is no converter. Hotel location is good, a street is the lively Fifth Avenue, the hotel has free dedicated parking. Breakfast has Western bread, there are also Mexican specialties, rich

Stayed for 2 weeks at the end of September, our first visit to Mexico and had a great time. When we arrived at the hotel we got a welcome drink and the staff on the front desk were friendly and gave us our keys and the cards to collect our pool towels. The bedroom was spotlessly clean, very spacious, a well-stocked mini bar, and plenty of towels to use in the bathroom. The safe was free to use and also in the bedroom was an umbrella and an iron and ironing board. The balcony had plenty of room to sit out and a small drying rack which would have been better if it was slightly bigger as you cannot hang anything over the balcony. The pool area was large, the pool to the right of the bar was the noisier pool as that's where the activities took place however if you don't want to join in and have a quieter holiday then the pool to the left is far enough away. The staff from the bar come around the pool taking your orders and also come around with a trolley to make your drinks at your sunbed. The first week we were there you could go down later and get a sunbed, however the second week people seemed to put their towels on very early and we found there was a party of about 18 that put towels on but very rarely actually used the beds, so we had to get up early to get a bed which wasn't really a bad thing as we got the early morning sun before it got too hot. All the staff were very friendly, and the entertainment team were great a big shout out to Mauricio (hope that's how you spell it) as he always had a smile on his face and was definitely born for the job. The evening entertainment is good we also visited the Riu Tequilla at night especially on the Friday nights for neon night and white night which were fantastic and worth a visit. The food was excellent and always plenty of choice, wine and prosecco was always flowing with lunch and the evening meal and nothing was too much trouble for them. If you didn't want to go in for lunch then there is Pepes who does burgers, hotdogs, salad etc that you can sit on your sunbed and eat. We had great holiday and will definitely be returning.

The hotel is an older hotel. The location is great for access to the beach and walk around 5th Ave. The bartenders and the travel shop/scuba shop were great the hotel maintenance and front desk staff were not the best. We did have issues with our rooms and they were fixed eventually except the king room that we booked was not available and we had to share a double bed. Iit’s an older hotel with musty smells and stuck drawers. The pool closed early on a Saturday night (8pm) but the mariachi/karaoke can play until 11pm and the noise will carry into the room. The kelp on the beach is filled with sand fleas and we came home with over 100 sand flea bites between the 5 of us. The buffet was ok but not worth $45 per day per person.

Stayed 3 nights. It is about 10-15 minutes by taxi from the city center. The reasonable price as of May 2019 is 200Bs. When you visit, 300Bs was taken, so please be careful if you have a suitcase. There are not so many restaurants, but the food offered seems to change daily. Dinner can be enjoyed at restaurants that require a bit formal reservation, buffet style restaurants, and teppanyaki restaurants that are limited to the day of the week. There was also a restaurant where you can eat snacks. We did not use room service, but it seemed to be so. All the dishes we ate in the hotel were delicious. During the GW period I visited, a large amount of algae was generated and I could not enter the sea, but the sand was white and very beautiful. I think there are two large pools, a children's pool, and a bath-like pool. Many of the staff are friendly and I think I was able to speak almost in English. The staff of the lobby travel agent was not that kind. Because there was bath in room and view was good, we were able to spend comfortably. It is hotel where we want to stay at again.

This time I stayed in two five-star all-inclusive hotels in Cancun, and the other one was the famous Hotel Xcaret Mexico ( hereinafter referred to as X). Compared with the hardware facilities and scenery of X, I recommend this Chinese tourist who is not familiar with Q. ) We went for Christmas, Q Hotels are less than half the price of X Hotels (of course X Hotels include amusement park tickets, not worth the price), not far from Xcaret Water Park. Environment: Q is a very special hotel, like living in the Amazon jungle in harmony with animals, peacocks leisurely walk next to the room, on the side of the road, luck will fly to the balcony railing of the room for you to observe up close; People with a heart can also see howler monkeys, giant turtles, lizards... People who are afraid of animals don't have to worry about being suddenly frightened, except that birds are basically surrounded in fixed areas. Landscape: The largest cafeteria in Q is next to a sinking garden, and one or two people choose a location close to the railings to eat. X is the garden and Q is the jungle. Food & beverage services: Q Hotel has a feeling of being at home, the waiter is more happy and easy-going, the wine is open to drink, the buffet is fresh and there are many, basically no waiting, usually not seafood (it is said to protect the sea), Christmas day big lobster, oysters eat, not stingy at all. In contrast, the waiters at the X Hotel are all feeling of taking money and money for people to eliminate disasters. There are not many people in the buffet and they have to wait. Looking at the place, there are actually few ways to eat and drink. Activities: The beach is an open beach and does not smell the fishy smell of other hotel reviews. For me, if there is a sea, the swimming pool is superfluous, but there are often atmosphere activities organized by the hotel in the swimming pool and the beach, and there are unlimited cocktails. There are parachutes and motorboats for various charges. It is recommended to sign up for snorkeling at the hotel when the weather is clear (around fifty knives), I saw turtles and lizards.

Fair price, clean, extra friendly staff, ok continental breakfast in a very beautiful place (l'embasciata d'italia). We were afraid of the noise both from 5th ave and from the restaurant in the morning. I guess we were very tired everyday and had a wonderful night sleep. There was noise indeed from 5th ave but nothing extraordinary. Didn't even use earplugs (though I still recommend bringing good quality ones).

As the Banyan Tree service did not have to say, that is, the charges are expensive, even the expensive is not good for hygiene, the pool villas, the small collapse in the yard can not lie, placed in the corner of the eaves do not say mosquitoes There are many ant bugs and a lot of spider webs. It looks dirty. The colony is also covered with insect secretions and spider webs. The partitions in the room are all gray, which makes people feel uncomfortable. And if it is too far to go to the beach, it is not convenient. It can only be said that this Banyan Tree is relatively backward, not as good as the nearby Viseroy.

The Carmen Hotel - Ocean Front
4/5103 Reviews
Playa del Carmen

The Carmen is clean and well situated. The ocean front suite was nice, bright, and spacious. However... - the reception checking in is horrible. There is a cheapo app that you must type all your data in to even though they have the reservation. One typing mistake and they say you are not registered. - Then you must type in your credit card (yes, type -- no reader) to this app. Very insecure! Took around ten minutes and the app never worked. The clerk ended up typing it in. With the Carmen, gone are the ”good day sir, welcome back: times. - On the card, they charge 100 US for ”incidentals”. I actually never found any incidentals to spend anything on. After two days and a message there are still two of these charge on my card and no reply for refund. - then they snag you with a pointless ”bracelet of death” for no visible purpose. The thing is like military grade plastic with little teeth inside. If you have the misfortune to pull it too tight you cannot remove it and you cut off circulation to your hand. You need a knife or scissors, and what traveler has those? There is no need for this whatsoever, and it is very dangerous if you pull it. If you get it caught it will take your hand off rather than breaking. - I had a ”luxury ocean front suite”, and the room and bed were nice. There was a puny little balcony with two very uncomfortable plastic chars. The jetted tub was cold and the jets did not work! In the room there is dangerous glass partition on the shower. Running into this at night could be a serious injury.

The hotel is excellently located 5 minutes walk from the beach and two blocks from la Quinta Avenida, that is the heart of Playa del Carmen, full of restaurants, bars and cafes, but despite this, the hotel is very quiet and the environment is very relaxed. The staff of the hotel only talking about, bartenders, waiters, cleaning people were awesome, but talking about front desk and guest services..... not very good service, and in that part doenst qualify that you get for what you pay.... because customer service should be good no matter what you pay

From 05/27/23 until 06/01/23 this was the 3rd time I've ever been to this hotel, but the 1st time since 2009. My experience was a negative one, sadly. There was a blonde receptionist I first met who was fine. It was the brunette receptionist that was not accommodating, not friendly. This hotel has 2 buildings, one on 5th Avenue and the other 10th Ave. They put me in the 10th Avenue building where there was no one on site. 6 days, I did not see anyone, day nor night. Walking through the courtyard at night and not one room had lights on. No one at the jacuzzi, nothing. I asked to be moved from this building to the main building where there were other guest visible and the brunette receptionist said no and walked away. There was another employee that I asked and he said no. I stated that I would look for another hotel and that other employee said ”ok”. I only had the breakfast plan and ate 2x in the cafe and the food was ”ok”. The first day I was still a little hungry and took a little box of cereal with me. I got stopped at the door and was told that I could not do this. The only positives: (1) I had a clean room and (2)the tours planner Bernardo was great. He was the only person to treat me nice and talk to me like a friend vs. a number. I had enjoyed this place in the past but will probably never come back.

Room was very nice. Arrival day was fine, then it went down hill from there. 2nd day no running water, so toilets weren't functioning nor can you take a shower. The pressure in the water both in the shower and sink was a mere poor. 3rd and 4th day no elevator, harsh when you are staying on the 3rd floor, especially when you are checking out with luggages. The water on the tub took over 1 hour to be fill. Pool needs a lot of repairs, while hanging out in the pool there were workers everyday, replacing the floor, I think they should have put a sign letting the guest know. Front desk, check in was fine, Ceasar checked us in, Amazing worker, excellent and personable. Second shift we were greeted with Alex, now he was rude, awful customer service. Our last day of check out he didn't show up for work, we were greeted by the maintenance guy, Marco awesome person, again he was put to cover because Alex never showed up for work and Marco did not know how to work the front desk and we had to leave so, we weren't checked out. Hopefully I won't have a surprised bill. Overall I would not stay here nor would I recommend this place. Major flaw, they never answer their phone, email or WhatsApp, tried for days to connect with them and we have nothing.

There is no need for golf. You can stay in other good hotels at this price. The restaurant is delicious, but all-inclusive is not recommended. The price is not as good as a la carte.

The location is very convenient, I take the ADO bus to the hotel for 10 minutes, acceptable, 8 minutes to 5th Street, 9 minutes to Walmart, 1 minute convenience store I live in room 106, open the door to the pool, the room is very large, the bed is very large, the shower water pressure is insufficient, it takes a few minutes to flush clean, the air conditioner is frozen enough, the kitchen equipment is ok, the bed and the pillows are so comfortable, a few nights are good, wifi sometimes can not be received, the only drawback is no hair dryer, In summary, I am very satisfied, the sexual inertia is very high.

The hotel is close to the seaside, online booking is much cheaper, there are about 10 free parking spaces, the health is good, the rooms are relatively large, the decoration is a bit old, the bathroom is not very good, there is a swimming pool, other facilities are not seen There are supermarkets and restaurants in the surrounding area. It is very convenient to eat and buy things. There are many bars and souvenir shops on the beach.

The team at BePlaya is amazing! They always go out of their way to take care of every detail and this trip was no exception. The rooms are neat and clean with wonderful amenities. And the staff is friendly and helpful. The pool and bar area is comfortable for relaxing by day and dancing by night. You will not go wrong by choosing to stay with Veronica and her team! Thank you!

It is NOT all inclusive and most of the resort smells like sewage! Anything on the beach is most likely you have to pay (the fancy beds, the food) Even the pool by the beach, the same chairs that are free on the beach you need to pay for and reserve at the poor nearby. Marley Coffee..not included, ice cream...not included, the Spa...not included Most of the staff are not aware of the happenings/way things are run on the resort. The guy giving out towels was unaware and surprised that chairs need to be paid and reserved around the pool near the beach. Workers gave the impression the Brasserie restaurant/buffet is reservation only, but when we went there they let us in no problem. Along with the luggage. Rooms are ready by 3pm and if you arrive hours early they will put your luggage away and serve whoever is present/bring them to their rooms before you when you are ready. (Recommend booking a later flight so you arrive after 3) We enjoyed the rooms, and DID have it serviced everyday, my only issue was the bathroom design. The shower design in villas makes it so it will leak out into the hallway. Slit in bathroom/toilet so you can see into. Gross/briny beach that is not really swimmable/deep, along with the pools , they are all about 5ft deep and warm Tips to survive The Fives: 1. DO NOT close the big glass door to your balcony if one of you is not in the room, you WILL be locked out and need to wave down employees to come let you back in. 2. USE interact for buying things if you run out of money, the ATM’s charge you $30 to use. 3. The monkeys will steal your items if they are not secured to you. Be careful when throwing things in trash, in case there is a possum inside. 4. DO NOT brush your teeth/rinse toothbrush with sink water in room, it smells 5. DO NOT eat the lettuce, or you will spend the next few weeks with stomach pain and consistent bathroom visits 6. Save your tip money for when you actually need it!!!...and you will (see following stories) We booked a few excursion via AirTransat/a worker named Dhyada. She was very pleasant and answered our questions...or so we thought. Our first excursion was snorkeling and visiting the Isle De Mujeres. Dhyada mentioned that we need $10 USD for a travel cost. (She failed to mention WHO to give this to) We are not that well versed in travelling, so we gave it to the bus driver and he kept it as a tip. When we arrived at the docks to leave, we didn't have any $, due to the agent saying we only needed it for souvenirs etc. We were bailed out and totally unaware that ”etc” meant EVERYTHING. When we arrived at the island (without any cash/cards whatsoever), we were greeted by the bathroom costing money, anywhere in the shade costing money, water from the bar costing money. Had we known we would have brought some, but we were lead to believe otherwise. We tried to plead with the caravans to take us back we don't want to stay in the blistering sun with no water for 3 hours. But they persisted t

I made a reservation for my family while they were visiting Mexico and on the email it stated that they would have until 3 am to check in. They were at a wedding in another town and could not check in until later because of the distance. Since it was already midnight and they knew they were an hour away they called the hotel numerous times because Wyndham states that you can make special arrangements with the hotel directly if you plan to check in late. No one ever answered! No big deal they will be there before 3am. They ended up getting a flat tire and it took forever to get help to fix it. Again, visiting from another Country. No one ever answered the front desk again. I called Wyndham directly and they tried calling…no one answered. My family gets there at 3:10am and are turned away and refused! Again, reservations already made for 2 rooms. They have been through a lot and stuck. The reservation department said they could not help me but to call in the morning and speak to Wyndham customer service directly. Ok, but what about my family? Luckily they found a nearby random hotel and just checked in. They have an elderly lady with them with health issues and had to deal with someone that first off never even answered at the front desk at all from 12am-3am. Not even when Wyndham reservations called. I’m sure this place is nice but I’m just annoyed because I’ve been to enough hotels all over the place to know that accommodations can be made. I’m just going to stick to Hiltons.

This is the best value in Playa Del Carmen. The best bang for the buck especially if you’re booking on this app. Good food. Steak restaurant is great too. Everything is clean and modern although not the newest hotel. This is our go to hotel. Only complaint is they stopped including the premium tequila (Don Julio) in the all inclusive

The room is large, clean, warm and comfortable, the environment is beautiful, the location is particularly convenient, go out is the Fifth Avenue Pedestrian Street, but it is quiet. The service is very good, the food quality is high, the rooftop pool has a good view, the rooftop bar eats and drinks well, the lounge chairs are comfortable, and the umbrellas are beautiful. We had enough of the sea in Cancun and chose this Hilton boutique on Carmen Beach, which was not close to the sea, but five minutes to the beach. Wall crack recommended!
