Spent 2 nights here on a short tour of Sicily and was not disappointed. We were kept well informed from the minute we booked it with the owner ensuring that she was available to check us in at a time to suit us. We received a warm welcome from the lady on arrival and was shown to two beautiful rooms. Our friends had been upgraded to a suite and me and my partner had the attic room. Both were spotlessly clean and everything had been thought of. Plenty of towels and toiletries together hairdryer. In addition we had tea making facilities and access to our own fridge. We had opted for breakfast which was served in a lovely setting with ample choice. As we had an early train on our departure day she went over and beyond leaving a fabulous selection of breakfast treats to take with us. She also arranged taxis for us which were clean and prompt. Would highly recommend. Tip - if arriving by train pay for a taxi to the b&b which you can get from right outside the station. We walked it which took. 20 minutes however it was rather “rough” and gave us an initial poor impression of Catania. However once checked in and we got our bearings the centre and streets around the b&b are lovely. Oh and take a trip to Taormina by train - awesome. Thank you so much for recommending and for looking after us.

Catania left us a crazy memory. The owner of the bed and breakfast ran away and the keys were not handed over to us. That night was the beach carnival in Catania. The hotel is very difficult to decide. No place to stay but fortunately booked one night here. Nice hotel, helpful service and good hot water. Recommended to live. There are few parking spaces at the entrance and there are parking spaces on the street. But watch out for the ZTL zone

Peppe and Claudia are really friendly people, who offer a warm welcome. They are well-placed to be in the hospitality industry, as wonderful hospitality is what they provide. If you need any suggestions, or would like a chat, they are happy to do this. The rooms are a blend of styles; from historic high ceilings and fabulous floor tiles, to contemporary quirky furniture. Everything is immaculately clean and tidy too. There is access to a cosy kitchen, which is useful if you wish to make drinks/need a fridge. We had a delicious breakfast Sicilian-style, of creamy cannoli and cornetti, accompanied by your choice of coffee. I am sorry that we were not staying for longer, though hope to return, as Catania is a fascinating city which deserves to be more widely-known. Grazie mille, T and W

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, there’s a bus stop opposites the hotel where the airport shuttle dropped us, which is very convenient. The hotel check in was ok, the receptionist at the check in wasn’t particularly friendly or unfriendly, pretty robotic without smile. We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the square with a balcony, the room is nice and spacious and clean, the bathroom is huge with a bathtub and a shower. The window of the balcony doesn’t close tightly so I can feel the wind slipping in, and because the hotel is right on the square there are a lot of homeless people, especially outside the main entrance of the hotel, and each evening around 8-10pm the dog of one of the homeless people starts to bark non-stop, it is really loud with the window not closing properly and no way that it is relaxing, I know it is not the hotel’s fault but it really affects the stay and stress the hell out of me after listening to dog barking constantly for an hour every evening. The hotel in general is ok, walls are bit dated and carpets have some stains on it, the bar area is very nice and the drinks are good with nice bar snacks. The breakfast is very basic and simple, the hot food choice is really limited, but nice cakes. But don’t expect the breakfast to be the highlight of the stay. The hotel is near a shopping street with nice shops, it is also within walking distance to all the monuments, on Sunday there’s also a fruit market on the square in front of the hotel which is nice. The service is ok but not overly personal. In general I think it’s a nice and average stay.

Travel info on how to get to this place was sent the morning of our arrival. We were already on the road and had no way to access that info. Luckily we were able to find it with little effort. I thought I had looked to make sure that we had a private bathroom but maybe I didn’t. We had a room and there was a common bathroom down the hall. There were 4 keys which proved a bit cumbersome. The small one had to be inserted in the a lock inside the room to allow you to use electricity. Another key was needed to lock yourself in the room which meant the electricity, with the light, went off before you could figure out which key worked. Just a little annoyance when you went through this several times an evening. The a/c cooled the room down nicely. There was a nightstand and table with electrical outlets on both sides of the bed. There was a light but it was so light it kept flipping over upside down. It was not possible to read a book or make our plans with this light, very cheap and annoying. There was one bar of soap and one small bottle of shampoo/body wash in the closet along with the towels. There was a small desk which could be used during the daytime when the sun was out to use for light. We were told we could get a discount if we ate at their restaurant but we already had dinner reservations made a week prior. My husband used the shower down the hall. The water was cold. We informed the front seat and they told us that the water heater switch had probably been turned off. That switch was in the laundry room next door to the bathroom. In this small laundry room was also a toilet in case the one in the room with the shower was in use. I used the shower later and was able to get hot water. However mid-way through I started losing heat. When I adjusted the dial it went to scalding. I was able to play with it to get some warmth to get through my quick shower. The shower stall was very small and there was a small soap dish attached to the shower head. It was so flimsy that it fell when I placed my soap on it. There was a shelf next to the shower but that meant opening/closing the door a lot which meant water getting on the floor. There was not much counter space but there were some small shelves. I’m not sure when the area rug in front of the sink was last washed, but it looked pretty dingy to me. There was a community dispenser of soap by the sink. Thankful that we only spent one night here.

I have visited Catania with my mum in July and I have to say the service in this hotel was one of the best received so far. There was great attention to detail and the room was pristine. It had all the comfort you need and although was very central the location is very quiet. We were very happy. We recommended great local places to eat and places to visit. We would most certainly go back if we travel to Catania again.

Casa D'aria is a real find. i brought a group of 14 to Sicily, and Catania was our first stop for 3 nights. Casa D'aria could not have been more perfect. Instead of each guest having a room we each had our own apartment complete with a full kitchen. Beautifully designed, appointed and comfortable apartments. It could not have been a better introduction to Catania and Sicily. Patrizia was amazing. Helpful, patient and informative, She even steered me to the best seafood restaurant in Catania and helped considerably with all the pesky details. She also made all of my guests feel welcome and at home. Casa D'aria is also within short walking distance to anyplace in Catania you would want to be. 15 minutes tops to the train station, Piazza Duomo, Castello Orsino or the great shopping on Via Aetna. All in all, for hospitality, beauty, comfort (the beds were amazing) and convenience, Casa D'aria will now always be my first stop in Sicily.

Wanted to like this place. Good price and communication. One minute walk to fish market, four to main square. Coupons for breakfast in main square but the pastries/coffee they have there are outstanding. Wifi fiddly but managed to work (slow, so can't stream) in the end. Good provisions for young children and nice selection of tea, coffee, cold water, and fridge. Big problem: cleanliness of bedding and infestation. Duvet provided without cover.. so how is this washed between guests? And woke up first night with over thirty bites and swelling around the eyes from bedbugs so had to get antihistamine at the pharmacy in the main square. More bites the following nights. Secondary problem, bathroom smells of sewage but expect that for old buildings in Italy and wasn't too bad. Shower nice and hot.

Me and my partner had 2 days at Akemi house. We booked the Junior Spa Suite. Amazing relaxing and very welcoming place. Francesco was extremely helpful when it came to parking ( there is none on site but street parking is available and we found space just next to it). Location is perfect, few minutes from all the attractions. The room was spacious and comfortable, everything worked great. Francesco also offers complimentary breakfast (there is shared cosy kitchen) which was lovely, to include cereal, coffee, croissants, loads of fruit and yoghurts available at all times. Excellent. We hope to go back!

Based on the great evaluation in TripAdvisor and Booking.com we chose B&B Miro for one night stay in Catania. Unfortunately our experience was much worse than reported by others. Parking and location are great, Also the welcome by one of the B&B team members - this is worth one star in my evaluation. But the room and especially the bath were extremely small, quality of furniture is lower level and walls and some furnitures definitely need a renovation. The outflow in the shower did not work, the toilet seat was broken. In addition the room was poorly soundproof. No chance to sleep while the neighbors dog was barking all night long, the cars used their horn during the night or other guests returned from their party night. Since we had to leave early and there was no flexibility to offer a breakfast earlier than 8 am we cannot judge the breakfast at all.

Great base with which to explore Catania, Taormina and Etna. Great breakfast with tea or coffee, cereals, toast, juices, croissants cheeses and cakes. Room had all we needed and borrowed an iron as my clothes were creased. Accessible as the bus we took from the airport and back stopped a 2 min walk away, handy! We also took a bus to Taormina which was a 15 min walk away as was the centre of town just walk along Via Etna. They helped us book our 4x4 trip to Etna which picked and dropped us back from the B&B. The lady also suggested a street nearby for local restaurants which was great. My one small concern when we arrived in Catania was graffiti everywhere and we thought about safety but we were two girls and had no problems whatsoever out late on our own and everyone was very friendly and family orientated, no trouble whatsoever.

The critical factor was not the brown bathroom nor the tan toilet paper, though the electrical socket hanging out of the wall over the sink could have doomed someone. Nor was the awful truth about this place failing to get the room we'd been promised and paid extra money for. Though that was hugely disappointing the insurmountable problem was the noise within the hotel. After 1 night we moved due to the cacophony indoors that made the busy street outside seem as calm as a picnic. The great problem with Elios Rooms, a 1st floor apartment above a crossroads thoroughfare, is that the rooms are not off a quiet corridor, they are located directly off the kitchen area, directly off the reception room, and off communal areas which means that unless you are stone deaf you'll need some seriously good ear plugs to survive being awoken early in the morning as chairs are scraped over floors, as sleepy chatter chunters into cappuccini made frothy below a coffee steamer that hisses consciousness into even the deepest sleepers. As phones ring and doors slam all around your room, even with wax ear plugs pushed deeply, you will be wakened, as we were, time after time, by cups and saucers, plates, chatter, ring ring, and doors, if not the dog. One night was enough! We had to move. Getting a forced smile apology for the rooms mix-up and not getting the promised quiet room which we paid extra for added to the bad feeling which rose biliously from the depths. Being told we were in the wrong and we had never been given an agreement for a quiet room added to the anxiety. Thus riled we felt obliged to produce the Email sent to us from the owner which proved we had, in fact, been promised said quiet room. That wasted time and caused us stress. Upon showing the manageress the Email the resident dog went berserk and barked itself into a lather, so we decided to just slip away with a cancellation (1 night penalty) and then we were able to enjoy 5 great nights just around the corner at a fine hotel - well worth the extra little bit.

This B&B actually also has apartments in the same delightful garden courtyard, just off the main road into the old town. We decided to stay in a studio apartment for two which was perfect. Each morning we walked to the nearby bakery for fresh bread and croissants and the well equipped kitchen was more than adequate. The bed was fine and there was a sofa as well as a dining table with chairs. The bathroom was a little tired but for the price, which was good value, we were very happy. The best thing was the parking for our hire car, which was in the private courtyard, with our own electric remote to open the gates, totally private and secure. Usually the parking in quaint Italian old towns is a nightmare so this was perfect. The B&B was also only 200 metres from the main square and within easy walking of all the sights.

The Bed, Book, & Breakfast Landonlina is a hidden gem in the heart of Catania. The owners, Diego and Giusi have transformed several rooms of a classic palazzo into a charming, warm, and welcoming B&B. We stayed in the Camilleri room which has a gorgeous view of the city center, floor to ceiling windows and balconies, and a modern, European-style bathroom. Diego and Guisi reached out to us and answered our questions before we even arrived, and upon arrival, they greeted us and helped us become acquainted with the city's many attractions. Each morning we enjoyed a beautiful breakfast (colzaione) that featured local fruit, nuts, meats, bread, and Giusi's homemade pastry and exceptional cappuccino. The location of the BBB Landolino is perfect. One is only minutes from the city center (Piazza D'uomo), the famous fish market, Piazza Bellini, and the Via Etnea filled with stores, restaurants, and cafes famous for arancini and classic Sicilian desserts. The port of Catania and seashore is also only a few blocks from BBB Landolino, and within minutes you can be taking a long walk on the Ionian seashore with a magnificent view of the city and Mount Etna majestically in the distance. The Bed, Book, & Breakfast Landolina is the perfect place to experience life as it is truly lived in the heart of Catania. Thank you, Diego and Giusi for sharing your warmth and hospitality with us. Con affetto, Gary and Lisa

We were in Catania for an event and chose Casa Barbero because it was a few blocks away from the venue and stayed for a week afterward to tour southern Sicily. What great luck! The B&B is located in a quiet street parallel with the main thoroughfare of Catania, via Etnea, about a 15-minute walk to the historic center, the Cathedral of St. Agatha, the famous fish market, and many restaurants and shops (there are also several buses that run on via Etnea downtown). Antonio and Monica are the co-hosts, but we interacted most with Antonio. They both speak English and the ever-charming Antonio was the proverbial font of knowledge, as a lifelong resident of the city. When we arrived in Catania after an overnight flight into FCO and a multi-hour layover there to connect to CTA, we were greeted by a taxi arranged for by Antonio at our request. It set the tone for our visit. While we chatted at breakfast each day, he also provided us with a handy map of central Catania, referrals to restaurants and shops, and suggestions about where to visit outside of the city that dovetailed with the destinations that we had already chosen. His warmth and attention made us feel like true guests in his family home. We found our room quiet and comfortable. We never knew how many other guests were there while we were. The B&B is located in a historic building with a central garden courtyard that is available for breakfast during the warm weather. We were there in January, so we had breakfast inside. Fresh Cappuccini and warm cornettos (croissants in the U.S.) were supplemented by, among other things, yogurt, hardboiled eggs, an array of cookies and fresh fruit, and bread for toasting. We helped ourselves to all. There is also a kettle in the room. After 4 days of touring Catania, we rented a car to visit Taormina, Agrigento, Noto and Siracusa, and the mosaics at Palazzo Romano Casale. Antonio suggested a 24-hour attended parking lot a few blocks from Casa Barbero, because on-street parking is challenging. This made it possible to see parts of Sicily that we wouldn't have if we were reliant on buses and trains. The next time we visit Sicily, we will use Casa Barbero as our base again!

Well, the approach was certainly off-putting, being on a very busy, noisy, and dirty street. Once inside the place is quite pleasant and Christina very welcoming. Our bed was comfortable though it did squeak a bit. That was not a problem as the street noise required us to use ear plugs in any event. Breakfast was excellent. Location is not far from the attractions of town. Overall good if you can tolerate the street noise.

We knew this small hotel was inside one of the old palazzos in Via Etnea and found it immediately. Its not rare in Catania to find a quite dilapidated entrance leading to something pleasant so I was not put out on finding a grand old door which had seen many better days and a desolate kind of courtyard. A door to your right leads to a tiny lift and a dusty staircase. (The lift is slow and tiny but the only downside to this place). Once upstairs the place is bright, modern, clean, and good value indeed for money. Our room had carved ceiling, air conditioning, three very comfortable beds, private shower, flat screen tv and frigo bar, plus balcony overlooking Giardini Bellini. The staff is pleasant and friendly .... A good breakfast is included in the price and staff let us leave our luggage at reception until called for after check out.

· We have booked the room for 10 days for the New Year, but could bear only 4 days- we have moved to another hotel with a financial loss of 500 €. The hotel canceled a reservation at least 7 days beforehand, so we have not even argued .. Reader could think that I am very capricious, but if you look at my profile, you will see that I travel a lot and normally I left only positive feedback. Strongly not recommend this one! You can stop for a day or two, no more .. -We were looking for a hotel in Catania by specific filters: close to the center, kitchen and a quiet place (after my complaint the kitchen filter was removed). On the advertising photo, everything is fine: large, bright rooms and a photo of the pretty big kitchen with dishes. In fact, everything is not so: the rooms are tiny, and the kitchen is the only one for all rooms! As a solution to the problem, we were offered to install beds in the kitchen! This is a hostel for a bunch of money... -There are very loudly, all windows are at the road side. So you begin your morning at 6 o'clock with the motorcyclists. -Street is on the border with the real slums, in the evening is not very comfortable and safety. And, sorry for such details, everywhere it smells like urine .. -Small rooms with cheap IKEA furniture and cheap bedding. -Breakfast is not even at the hotel, but at the cafe nearby. Breakfast consists of one cup of coffee and one bun. -Do not even think about coming with the car, there is no parking at all. Railway station and bus station far away.

For me, this place is definitely more of a hostel feel than B&B/Hotel. There isn't a 24hr reception, and you have to specify your arrival time which is quite annoying as plans do change. Inevitably we stopped off en route to Catania, so I warned the lady via Whatsapp and she was not impressed (I did give a good few hours notice). On to the location – it's in a very sketchy area...! It's in a large communal building that backs on to a bus station. There were all sorts of dodgy people hanging around here and if you walk in the wrong direction, you won't feel very comfortable! The entrance to the building itself is really hard to find – signage is definitely needed. To get up the right floor, you have to get into a tiny lift – there didn't appear to be any stairs which is a massive issue in case of a fire emergency! Once inside, the rooms themselves are very nice and modern, and the beds are super comfortable. There is a nice view of Etna (if you don't down at the car park with burnt out cars!), although our room backed on to an air conditioning unit so it didn't smell nice and it was noisy so we didn't make use of our balcony. The bathrooms are nice and clean, with a hairdryer provided. We only stayed one night, arriving early evening so we didn't get to explore Catania, although we needed food so we took a wander around the local area – turned out to be a quick walk as we didn't feel all that comfortable. That's Catania's fault though, not the B&B! We left early the next morning so didn't get chance to sample the breakfast. All in all, I personally wouldn't stay here again because of the location – I didn't feel safe leaving our car outside due to the people hanging around – everything was fine though, just people begging us for money and trying to clean our windscreen etc. The B&B is fine for a very short stay in my opinion, and if you block out the surrounding environment, the B&B itself is actually nice and comfortable. The staff were also friendly once we met them in person, and very accommodating.

The hotel is located in a nice location, the rooms are mediocre and there was a horrid stench coming from the bathroom. But this is nothing in the face of horrors we faced during the night. At 10 pm our walls began to tremble under the bass and loud music of the night/strip club DIRECTLY BELOW OUR ROOM. Along with the music came intermissions from loud moron/hypeman screaming into microphone. THIS WENT ON UNTIL 5 am, reception closes on 8 pm so there is literally nothing you can do to stop this nightmare. This was unbearable and soured a very nice day in this Sicilian city. If you value your sleep and well-being please reconsider booking this hotel. I created this account sorely for the purpose of warning other people if I can save even one person from this experience I will be content.

We had a great time in this place of character a few minutes on foot from the cathedral and via Etnea. Beautiful painted ceiling. Clean room and bathroom. There is beautiful lift. Relatively quiet: we slept well.

It was great! Service was good, friendly staff and I even got to use the piano which sits in a lounge room which was amazing! Breakfast in the morning provided a good variety of food and drinks with a lovely view of the city as you ate! All I could have asked for!

Because the hotel I wanted to book was not booked, I chose this one blindly on the day. The room can watch the sunrise, and it is romantic. The breakfast was good and full! The only drawback is that some parts of the facilities in the room are loose, so troublesome hotel repairs are perfect!
