I made the reservation through the Choice Hotels phone app at their Econolodge unit on I-64 Northhampton Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA.. The rate was quoted and paid in full in advance by credit card on the app. On arrival, the desk clerk advised that a local additional charge of $6 would be applied. If I have a guaranteed rate that's prepaid, I asked, what is the extra charge? I don't know, she says, I just have to add it. And so it begins. I arrive at the room that reeks of smoke. There's multiple cigarette burn damage to the plastic frame of the a/c unit. There's also a burn hole in the bedspread. This bedspread hole causes me to look at it closer to find that the beds (both of them) have been made up without blankets -- each bed has two sheets (top and bottom), two pillows in pillowcases and one thin bedspread. As I've been on the road all day, it's time to shower. At the bath, I find two thin washcloths -- no hand towel(s), no bath towel (s). This dicrepancy prompts a call to the front desk. I use the nightstand phone that goes straight to busy. I hang up, wait several seconds and it goes straight to busy. Again and again and again. After maybe 20 cycles of this nonsense, I use my cellular phone to call the hotel. An autoanswer says press "0" for the front desk. After 15 seconds or so, the autoanswer recycles. I press "0" again, wait it out, it recycles and I press "0" again. This routine went on for 54 minutes. Now it's a trip back to the front desk. First we discuss the phone. She knows the house phone doesn't work but was surprised that the outside line failed. She got it to work while she talked to me. Then we come to the missing towels. There are none, she says. How can that be, I ask. None of the rooms have towels. The check-ins I'm doing now are going to rooms with no towels. When will you get towels? Maybe in the morning!!! Aren't towels part of the hotel experience? If you don't have towels the rooms shouldn't be in inventory. Sholder shrug. With nothing more to be said, I'm back to the room again and decide to call Choice Hotels to start a complaint report. I call the toll-free number to get an auto-answer about how important I am and they'll take my call in order. Twenty-one minutes later and probably 52 auto messages about how important I am to their organization, the auto-message changes to "it's taking longer than normal to answer your call, please hang up and try again later." 21 minutes it takes them. If they're not going to answer, tell me after the first minute rather than the 21st one. It seem, then, that there's absolutely nobody minding the store. Local management can't manage. National customer service can't customer serve. Where do you go when there's nowhere else to go -- except vote with your feet so that it never happens again -- at least with Choice and their Econolodge units. And don't get me started on the overflowing trash and refuse on the stairs and halls. The whole plac

I recently visited the Fairfield inn and the fire alarm was going off. The morning staff was very professional and accommodating explaining that they apologize as a guest was smoking in their room which was out of their control.. ido not blame the hotel for a bad guess . For smoking in the room. And cause the problem. It's not the hotels fault. I was there that night when I went down. the manager was very apologizing and very nice I told Chet the front desk . Not to worry everything is fine I will be back in a very near future and recommend this place is clean and spotless and friendly.

I chose this hotel because of its proximity to family we were visiting. It is clean and comfortable, except for the heating/AC. The outside temperatures were in the mid-50s. The unit could not be set for heating or cooling but only to the desired temperature. When it was on, the air blowing was freezing. When it was off, the room got uncomfortably warm. Still, the room was very quiet and otherwise comfortable and well furnished. We were especially impressed by the staff. The housekeeper spoke to us in a very friendly tone each time we encountered her in the hall. The receptionist spoke to us each time we passed the desk. The woman coordinating the breakfast spoke to all as she arrived and the one time we passed her in the hall, she greeted us in a very friendly manner. She was attentive about replenishing the food and kept the serving area very clean. The food was typical "free hot breakfast" but always fresh and quickly replenished. The make-your-own waffles were better than most such waffles at other hotels.

On my way to Chincoteague, VA I made a quick stop in Virginia Beach. I stayed here because the TripAdvisor Reviews were good. This is a really nice Red Roof Inn. There appears to be a fridge and microwave in every room. Check in was quick and no hassle. The room was very clean. There was a soap and a shampoo in the tub with plenty of towels. The cable TV is excellent. It has several HBO channels and a variety of regular cable channels. The vending and ice machines are convenient. The wi-fi is good also. Some disappointments. The lobby is closed, so there is no coffee. There is also not a coffee maker in the room. You will have to go to a store off property to buy it. But there is a Dunkin, Panera, McDonalds and several convenience stores very close. Also, this is obviously an older motel so there are very few electrical outlets in the room. Usually there are some on the lamps or close to the bed. There was only one available on the wall across from the bed on the wall. And there is one by the vanity near the sink. There is a nice desk where you would normally put your computer to use, there there are no electrical outlets anywhere near the desk. So if you're staying here, it is a good place but be prepared. Bring extension cords and a coffee maker!! But it is definitely one of the better Red Roof Inns I've stayed at!

Before I booked, I called to confirm the airport shuttle would be available because I had a late flight coming in and I was assured that it would be and I just need to call and schedule it when my trip was closer, so I booked a room. Then I called before my flight departed to schedule my shuttle and was informed that the shuttle wouldn't be available because it doesn't run that late. So I had to get a taxi, but the person working the front desk offered to cover the taxi fee, so I appreciated that. However, the hotel was out of key cards so i had to be escorted by staff whenever I wanted in and out of my room and when I got to my room there was a roach on my bed and the hotel smelled like smoke/pot. Staff was nice. Breakfast was below average. Overall, this was the worst hotel experience I have ever had.

Clean room and a very friendly and supportive hotel staff. Parking worked well with the $18 a day "in and out" card. Excellent breakfast and related seating. Well-located near Scope arena and other points of interest. First time visitors need to be aware their GPS may route them to 227 West Brambleton, but the real entrance to use when arriving in a car is at the back on York Street for access to short term street parking to check in and subsequent garage parking near by.

I had a negative check in experience due to the hotel not having my reservation, even though I provided them with a confirmation number and email. I was told to call because they couldn't do anything and had to get on the phone with them to confirm that the reservation was actually there. This was after I had made a new reservation and then got charged for both reservations at the same time. It was unnecessarily stressful for a simple check-in. Also, the room looked clean but upon unpacking I noticed hairs everywhere from the previous guest. In general it was just not clean, smelled like weed, the noise level was very loud, and the parking lot was sketchy with broken class from cars.

We chose this hotel because we were traveling with a pet and it had the best reviews for the location. It was ok but not up to the usual standards of a Candlewood. The room was basically clean except for the dish cupboard which hadn’t been dusted in a long time. The bathroom sink wasn’t draining well and no one came to fix it despite a request. The dog park area was filthy and I was concerned about having my dog use it. During the week, the guests seemed a bit rough and I encountered an unmasked man who had clearly just been in a fight, given the condition of his face. Over the weekend, more families arrived and the rough folks left. The pros are the location and the staff. Everyone was friendly and kept masks on at all times. There was a bowl of sanitizer at the desk to put keys into. We were on the first floor quite near an exit, which kept us from disrupting other guests. Despite the negatives, it was close to my son’s house and we would give it another try if we were traveling with the dog.

Following an extremely painful travel experience from the U.K. to the USA on Thursday May 5, I arrived at The Marriott Waterfront in Norfolk (7 hours late and exhausted). There was initially an issues with my room, but once I explained the situation/dilemma to Miss Caroline on the front desk , she immediately took control of the situation and had me moved to a super quiet room with amazing views over the waterfront. Working within the events industry is all about the end experience and my experience of The Marriott Waterfront has been excellent. Nothing is too much for every single member of the hotel staff. Very well done and thank you.

I booked and checked in at the last minute because my other travel plans were upended without notice. I chose a motel room with direct access to the outside, because in these days of COVID19, I wanted as little access to public spaces as possible en route to my room. I entered the Motel 6 lobby and the woman behind the desk was not wearing a mask, neither was a worker (a guy with a ladder that was talking to her). I stood back until she put on her mask. The tiny pieces of plexiglass hanging between the customer area and her desk were a joke, not preventing any airborne virus. My room, at first glance, seemed humble but clean enough. TV worked. Fridge and microwave worked. Sheets were clean. Bath had been wiped down. The housekeeping was not the problem, the overall maintenance and shabbiness of the place, was the problem. Within two hours I saw someone stomp on a roach in the stairwell. At night I started to doze in front of the TV with my clothes on. I was about to get up and change into my pajamas when I saw a dying cockroach emerge from under the mini fridge. I killed it, and 15 minutes later another one was crawling along the wall toward the bed. I killed it, and slept with one eye open, in my clothes, for the rest of the night. I never unpacked. I grabbed all my stuff and left the next day. The room remained empty the next six days. I returned once to avail myself of the wifi, but even the wifi wasn't working. "That happens when storm is coming," said the front desk. This is Tidewater Va, there is always a storm coming. The lamp shade was gashed, the bulbs were very dim, I had a fly and a wasp in my room, in addition to the roaches. I made one attempt to talk to a manager, but "Miss Rachel" was not in. I had a non-refundable stay, and lost hundreds of dollars. I never should have booked all 7 nights without seeing it first. One day/Total Roach Count: 8

Had another great stay a the Hampton Inn, Norfolk. Front desk representative Melissa was awesome! She made you feel welcomed and was very professional and helpful. We also  had the pleasure of meeting Tim who was also very professional and polite. The room was right and clean. Walls were well insulated, you do not hear your neighbors or people walking/talking in the hallway. The breakfast was fantastic.  There was a Waffle bar, bagels with toaster, Veggie and cheese omelets, hatd boiled eggs,, sausage, Oatmeal, muffins and assorted pastries and assorted juice dispencer. Would reccomend this location.

All of the staff are very helpful. If you need something they will do everything in their power to get it for you or will direct you to where you can get it. And it's an ease to reserve your room online and stay in the same room that you're in if you should add extra days.

We were in Room 540 - handicap accessible. Closet SPace was a little over 18 inches wide and almost impossible to hang anything in due to the "safe." We arrived Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 3:00 pm and checked in at the front desk. I was told my room was not ready yet, but they would have it ready shortly. We went to the bar and waited until 6:00 pm and then returned to the desk to find out the room was actually ready. We had considered bringing our two mini dachshunds along on the trip and were informed that the hotel was very pet friendly. We could have both of them in our room and had to just pay a nonrefundable pet fee. It was only $300 per pet. Yes, that was $600 to bring our dogs, our furry kids along. We border them with our veterinarian for 1/2 that price and had additional services included. We were supposed to get a 10% discount at the bar and restaurant since we were part of ANZIO Group and here for a reunion. Getting the discount was a struggle at best and usually did not happen as wait staff either could not find a "manager" to approve it or lied about even trying. Mimi in the restaurant during the morning buffet was the exception who made it happen one time. She knows her job! Housekeeping was a nightmare, to say the least. The hotel [policy is that we are not treated as Guests but as customers. If we want/need anything like new towels, room made up, or any other services, we must request and schedule that service, it is not provided! For instance, the liquids in the bathroom: Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Soap are in large theft-proof containers Mounted to the shower/bath wall. The Body Wash was empty and I tried to get more. I was told that the hotel was out of that soap and the manager needed to order more, but we were supplied ONE small bottle for the two of us to share instead (the size of an old hotel shampoo bottle). We saw no housekeepers for 3 days. I was able to get clean towels by asking for them, but I had to go get them. On Saturday night we had a banquet for about 100 people in our group. It was held in one of the Ballrooms on the first floor. In addition to our group, there were people dining in the restaurant and at the bar. There was ONE working restroom on the floor next to the gym. ALL of the other restrooms on the MAIN FLOOR of the hotel were BROKEN and not available for use. Negatives: Pet Fee, Waiting for room over 3 hours past check-in time, Lack of group discount, Housekeeping, Poor sanitation Checked out at 8:30 am Sunday, May 8, 2022. This was a ship's reunion 30 years after Commissioning!

Stay Report - 4/29 to 4/30 Location: The name is somewhat inaccurate.  The hotel itself is located in a no man's land area south of I-64 about 10 minutes from the ORF Terminal.  It's near a few other hotels and not much else but there are a few chain restaurants a little south on US 13.  The proximity to I-64 makes it easy to get around from the hotel and downtown Norfolk is about 15 minutes away.  Hotel: As with all Doubletrees you aren't sure what you're going to get until you arrive.  This hotel has a large (and free) parking lot, a nicely renovated lobby with a small snack shop, a lot of meeting space and I presume a restaurant and bar but I did not see them.  Common areas on the hotel floors are much more worse for wear than the lobby Check In: I arrived at midnight and got right into my room.  I was thanked for being Diamond and given two bottles of water and a cookie.  I was not told anything about dining though Room: Old and not in good repair. A fuse must have blown because when I tried turning on both bedside lights, the first one went out and the outlets they were plugged into didn't work after that.  There was a desk, decent sized TV at least but the bathroom is a weird design and quite small and soundproofing is awful.  I could hear every word my neighbors were saying both in the hall and in the next room. I ended up here as it was an expensive hotel night citywide but this hotel is still 35,000 points.  For that it's fine but it's not in great shape.

First and foremost, this hotel is ON the Old Dominion University campus. It is a perfect place to stay for any visit to ODU. Easily walkable distances to the whole campus. And nicely located 1/2 block from the main restaurant street. But what puts it over the top is the room layout. This is not your normal double bed and a bathroom layout. Each room/suite has a nice sitting room area with a sofa, desk, and cabinet area with refrigerator and microwave. Our room also had two (2!) closets for hanging clothes. The staff were also all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was average, but staff kept it clean and looking great. It's not a 5-star hotel, but for what we paid (quite reasonable, even with the extra $8 for parking), it exceeded my expectations and provided the foundation for a very nice visit to ODU! I strongly recommend it. Note: I had a room on the south side of the building, not on Hampton Blvd. No noise on that side.

We were on the last leg of round trip through Virginia and had not made any bookings in order not to be compelled to follow an exact route or schedule. We found the Quality Inn by chance and I was impressed by the friendliness of the reception staff when asking for a room. The Hotel does not offer many amenities and we had to find a restaurant before settling down which did not worry us, apart from the fact that there was no possibility to get anything drinkable which is a bit unpleasant on a hot day. The room was generous with two rather comfortable beds and it was quite clean too. Bathroom and showers were not that inviting, but then I guess for the money paid you cannot expect a 5 star service. Breakfast was rather good in a friendly atmosphere and generally we were not disappointed having stayed here.
