On the road to Ella from Colombo, on the outskirts of the Horton Plains National Park is a small town called Belihuloya. We stopped here after a few hour drive and decided to check out some local accommodation and somewhere peaceful to spend the afternoon. We stumbled upon Landa Holiday Homes. It is down a steep track from the main road and set back in lush, well kept gardens backing onto a small river. We opted to stay in one of the new build rooms which are light and airy with good fixtures and a massive bed. There are other rooms nearer the river but we opted for the more modern style higher up the hill. We spent the afternoon exploring the gardens, messing about in the river and chatting to the family who own the place. The garden is littered with jack fruit and pepper trees and has great views of the surrounding countryside. In the evening, ‘Grandma’ cooked is an enormous meal, featuring some of the best aubergine and fish curry dishes that we have tasted so far on our trip to Sri Lanka. The staff were also happy to drive into the town and purchase us some cold beers to enjoy with dinner. It is a fantastically peaceful and relaxing place and a great place to stop over if you are travelling across country or for access to Worlds End.

The service level sets this hotel apart. The staff always went out of their way with their assistance, advice and friendliness in every aspect - guided tours, front desk service and the restaurant. This was our first attempt at taking 2 small kids (4 and 7) on a more "adventourous" holiday, and the glenrock proved to be an excellent choice. The Pahanthduwa waterfall tour with the hotel staff was a highlight with Vithula - apologies if I got his name wrong - being the perfect guide, and a visit to a nearby historical temple and viewpoint was also enjoyed by all of us (big and small). We also managed to squeeze in a trip to Adisham and Surathali falls nearby during our 3 day stay. There were a lot of fun things to do for the kids in between tours, such as visiting the "fish therapy" area and the river adjoining the hotel, wandering around the premises, and a rock pool. There are also other tour options we couldn't try out due to time and the kids (e.g. a 6.00am climb to the nearby Hawagala). The rooms are also excellent, as is the food which was suprisingly above-par for a hotel of this size. Despite the hotel being slightly pricier than other options in the vicinity, I'm giving it a "value-for-money" rating because the free tour options, service level (which starts right from the point you do the booking) and quality of the hotel simply elevated the experience. Totally recommend this as a hotel to try out, especially with small kids.

Awesome weekend getaway in this lovely homely villa. the villa accommodated 14 of us individuals and the owner Dasun was on point with his communication and all relevant booking requirements. but the highlight was Mr and Mrs Pathirathne, the take carers of this wonderful clean and spacious villa. and the food was out of this world. proper Sri Lankan cuisine (just the way we loved) at it's best 👌 the complementary battered mushrooms were heavenly. 😍😍 Mr Ananda aka Pathi was very attentive to detail and made sure the facilities were upto the standards. a great place for family and friends. the bbq which was prepared on point and the meat was marinated perfectly 👌🤤 looking forward for many more visits to this lovely villa. highly recommended. great value for ur money.

Beautiful peaceful location with fantastic views and bird watching. They provide comfortable rooms with everything you need with the minimum impact on the natural surroundings. I’m staggered by the ignorance of some previous reviewers on here that just don’t get it! If you want a sterile sealed room with a f’ing trouser press then go to the Holiday Inn in Birmingham! The experience you get at the Rainforest Edge is unique and wonderful. We and our friends in the room next door enjoyed the best nights sleep of the holiday so far and we’d been in Sri Lanka nearly 2 weeks! The rooms are perfectly clean with plenty of hot water and toiletries, useful furniture, crisp white sheets, overhead fan, plenty of lights etc. and one small lizard who kept himself to himself. If you love nature, quirkiness, excellent food, amendable friendly staff and want something different, book the Rainforest Edge.

It's such a special experience. If you have a chance, you must stay here. When you make a reservation, you must order dinner. It is not convenient to eat nearby, and the hotel is very rich. Breakfast was very rich, and after visiting the national park, I came back for breakfast. Bathing is cold water, but it is acceptable in summer.

Visited this little lodge for 2 nights as a result of reading excellent reviews. My wife and I were not disappointed. It is very small tucked away on a side road. There is quite a lot of general background noise from animals and nearby families which is to be expected in Sri Lanja and adds to the experience. There are 4 rooms which I would describe as basic but perfectly adequate and amazing value for the money and service provided. We had what is described as the tree house. The room is up an outside wooden staircase with a small balcony and 2 chairs. This leads into a good sized room with a washbasin and off this a small shower and toilet. There is no AC but a more than adequate room fan. We ate at the lodge both nights and the food was excellent and all cooked by the owner Nandus mother. Our main reason for coming to this area as it is with most visitors was to visit Udawalawe Safari Park. I had read mixed reviews and having been on 12 safaris in Africa was a little apprehensive. There was no need. Nandu organised a whole day safari in one of his converted Land Rovers with his guide Indiga. We left at 6am and returned at 6 pm. Apart from stopping to purchase a day pass at the park entrance we were in the park all day. We saw very few other vehicles and spent the day having the most brilliant experience. We saw approximately 70 elephants of which about 10 were around 4 months old. There is an abundance of other wildlife and if you like birds then you will not be disappointed by the numbers and variety. The scenery is lovely and constantly changing with some very picturesque waterholes either full of water buffaloes and/or elephants. Nandu provided us with an excellent breakfast and lunch which we ate at different viewpoints. All this for £66 each which was great value for a whole day. The following day we visited the elephant relocation centre (about 5 mins by car) in time to see the elephants getting their first milk feed at 9am. Cost 500 rupees each. Well worth a visit and what a great job they are doing. It is also worth spending a few minutes in the visitor centre learning about Asian elephants. This is included in the ticket price. If you get a chance to stay at Lizard Safari Lodge you should take it as you will not be disappointed.

These guys are frauds, running a scam operation under the guise of an hotel. They accept bookings from websites like booking.com but deliberately do not disclose the fact that guests are forced to take the safari from them. The hotel's policy is to lure customers by offering low rates and then force guests to book the safari through them. The cheating part is where they are not honest enough to mention this while making the booking and flatly refuse to honour bookings otherwise. This means that customers are not allowed to compare prices of different safari operators and choose what suits them. They are also inconsiderate enough to force you out of the hotel at 9.00 in the night, in heavy rain, even when you have a 1 year old child, a 9 year old and elderly people. In my case, I reached the hotel around 9.00 P.M and the lady at the reception first asked me when I wanted to go on the safari. When I said we had already done the safari, she said then we would have to do it again through them or we couldn’t stay at the hotel. I pointed out that this was not mentioned anywhere in the booking confirmation but she started quarrelling and said that the hotel offered cheap rates so they could get customers who did the safari with them. I tried to reason with her saying that this was a breach of the booking confirmation and amounted to cheating but she was unwilling to listen. We tried calling the owner (Mihiri) but he did not answer our repeated calls. I further requested the lady to consider that it was already quite late and we had 2 children (1 year old and 9 years old) and elderly parents but she was completely inflexible and did not show the slightest consideration or any inclination to help. When I said I would go to the police, she had the audacity to laugh at my face and asked me to go ahead. We were then reluctantly compelled to search for another hotel, which we found after 2 hours of searching. Now, in my case, since we had a car and a local driver, it was at least possible (though extremely inconvenient nonetheless) to go out searching for alternate accommodation. In the case of most people, it would have been almost impossible. The hotel is located in a very narrow alley, where even one car can enter with difficulty. If it is raining heavily, the customer will obviously find it difficult to take their tired and sleepy children, pick all the bags, search for transportation and then head out looking for another hotel. The hotel itself appeared quite basic and more like a small-time lodge but it is their brazen cheating and horrible attitude that is appalling and unacceptable. I would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone. P.S: I stayed in 7 hotels at various locations all over Sri Lanka and most other hotels tried their best to hour the conditions in the booking confirmation; this hotel was the only dishonorable exception.

First visited this hotel when I was about 12.Even then food was horrible. This time it was really bad. We were given 7 course dinner which had ginger in basically everything(ginger is everywhere actually) Main was chips and chicken or pork with sauce and some vegetables. Since 4 of us don’t eat either of those the staff kindly gave us fried fish. That is why I’m giving them 2 stars otherwise it would be 1 for the beautiful environment. The amount of food was enough but since it’s fixed menu I’m pretty sure they could do something more and I personally expected have a more sophisticated meal from a hotel like this. And they don’t have any WiFi,TV or a/c(that is perfectly understandable since the environment was so cool and healing)However I don’t complain abt it since I get the message behind it. But even then both rooms were horrible. My parent’s room had a pink color bidet shower. How on earth did a shower like that ended up in a hotel like this?? I understand it may have been an emergency but the shower looked too old to think that it was an emergency.me and my sisters shared a room for 3. When we ask for a room for 3 we expect it to have a door for bathroom. This didn’t have a one and we had to warn each other before going in and was very uncomfortable but the story is not that. We accidentally found that the room was a double room and there were two separate stands to put the mattresses so that there are two separate beds. They have put someother 3rd stand between the two that was already there and covered it with a single double mattress. However the mattress was too small so a part of the cement stands were visible from either sides. If one of us were to fall from the bed we would directly hit the edge of those cement stands which would have broken our teeth and injured our heads and necks. It was extremely dangerous thing. So it was very clear that the safety of the customers were not there concern. Also they didn’t had any security guards in the guardroom. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and need urgent replacement. My sister had a back pain and it got aggravated after sleeping on that and me who didn’t had any back pain developed it after sleeping. The room had the horrible smell you get when u don’t use a room for a long time.At least hang an air freshener. Bedcovers and cushion covers were all dirty with black dirt marks. Bedsheets were extremely thin that we were feeling cold all through the night. In the bathroom they had fixed a gadget which gives shower gel etc when you press it.I don’t know it’s name. However it was not in use and they had put all the gels and shampoos in separate bottles. Then they should have just removed that gadget.it was extremely not nice to have that when it was not working. However worst was finding the road. After taking the turn from the main road we have to travel quiet a distance to get to the hotel and on the way there were somany cross roads that we got extremely confused about where to go as th

I spent my second day of tour in this hotel with my family and friends. Good customer service. Rooms were very clean and there were big space. Parking space available. Not so far from Ratnapura city. There is one special feature in this hotel I should mentioned owner has good knowledge of jems and he has collection of jems. There was a jem gallery. You can have good knowledge. Wifi facilities were not working. Hygiene was very good. Mind relaxing place. Little far away from city. Nice nature around the hotel. Budget hotel compared to other hotels in Ratnapura. Very nice architecture of hotel. There was a problem with my booking. Owner managed it and treated us very well. Overall very good hotel. Good location. Good customer service.

This place is (on our first Sri Lanka trip of 5 weeks) absolutely the best accomodation! It is everything you could have wanted: We had a very nice spacious room with a seperate bathroom where the toilet and the shower are at each side. We had the largest (family-)room (1 double & 2 twin beds) There are 3 other, a bit smaller but still ‘spacious’ rooms, so it’s very small. I would call this a boutique-hotel. ‘Everything’ can be organised (one of us did a mini-workshop cooking!) Transport, drop off- pickup, just name it! We did 2 safaris from 3,5 hours; 1 in the afternoon and 1 in the morning (very early, so 05.00 out of bed) The garden is a paradise, a river runs at the end... Tranquility is assured (so honeymooners ;-) Above all this comes the more than delicious food! The owner is someoneone who knows how to make his guests feel more than welcome; he is there for you (when you want something) I could write much more but.... Much better: Experience Hotel Vimanra (Udawalawa) yourself and you will have to agree with all I (and other guests) have said: Hotel Vimanra is heaven on earth!

What a great stay this was. The accommodation is beautiful, we had a HUGE bedroom (two double beds!), with a lovely large bathroom (great shower, bring your own toiletries). The room had powerful AC and a ceiling fan, so the temperature was very comfortable. We also had a huge balcony, and we could just sit outside surrounded by Sri Lankan nature - birds, chipmunks and a monkey! It was like paradise. We are vegan, but this was not a problem for the owner and his wife, who cooked the most delicious evening meal (small additional charge - and I mean small, given the quality and quantity of food!). We dined outdoors with some of the other guests, it was a really enjoyable meal and experience. Breakfast, which is included in the price, was mind-blowing! So much delicious Sri Lanka vegan food, lovingly prepared by the owner's wife and his mother. The coconut pancakes - oh my goodness! We had also arranged a half-day safari (afternoon) through the hotel, at a very good price because we were sharing with some other guests. The safari experience was amazing, our driver was great, very knowledgeable, able to spot the smallest creatures, and very respectful about not intruding, especially with the elephants. Highlight of the afternoon, as we were travelling back to the park entrance, sun starting to set, we came across a family of elephants by the side of the trail, just doing their thing. Our jeep was the only one there, so we just sat, waited and watched. Awesome! So, if you are visiting Udawalawa, I highly recommend this family-run guesthouse. Fantastic accommodation, amazing food, and such a friendly family.

We stayed here on our first night in Sri Lanka. Slightly strange as we seemed to be the only guests (they had an event on that day it seems so weren’t accepting bookings - perhaps they forgot this when we booked?). The rooms were adequate - quite large and comfy beds. The whole place is slightly run down but that adds to the charm. The pool was good. Again, 15-20 years ago would have been fantastic but was showing its age now. The food was fantastic though. Evening curry was delicious and breakfast was great. As a place to stay for a stopover, this is an ideal hotel.

We stopped here for a quick lunch bite on way to Colombo. they have both buffet and alacarte on the lunch menu. Alacarte has a lot of options. we chose to go with the buffet which had white rice, a few fish options (which I can't talk about as we have veg), 5 varieties of vegetable curries including Mallum and jackfruit curry. Good food overall. Rest rooms are very clean and this makes the place ideal for a pitstop.

For the price you pay this is one of the better locations around Sinharaja north. Its a 5 minute drive and about 10 15 minute walk from the main entrance. I have stayed in this location a few years back and I like what they have done with the place. They now have 14 rooms (non AC) and the rooms are clean. Location is quiet (something I look for) with a river running at the back. Food could be better. But the service was really good. They run some campsite parallel to this operation. When I arrived tired after the morning hike around 2 there were around 25 kids in the place, and I thought to my self oh god no. But I was immediately taken to my room and lunch was served in 10 minutes, so despite their challenges service was good. Kids moved to the campsite thankfully, leaving me in peace and quiet :)

Due to the railway strike, we had to give up the tickets we had already purchased and changed to rent a car to Kandy. Although the road is hard, there are also many scenery to be swept. The three-day trip to Kandy is not so much a look at the scenery of the temple and the lake. It is better to say that this hotel is even more pleasant. Booking the hotel, because of the unique tapestry pattern in the hall, arrived at the hotel, first attracted by the river in front of you, the blue sky. The hotel has a sweet and cold drink at the store. When you look at the river, you don’t feel that the procedure is slow. Prayer in the mountains, candlelight and singing at night, a beautiful local wedding, beautiful sunset glow, blue waves from the pool outside the cafe, blending with the hotel's gracious dining and attentive service, a movement or a look, the waiter can Understand your mind. The place to stay, the first floor is slightly damp, but there is a garden where you can push the door, people who like plants, you can also browse the hotel's garden, there are many kinds of plants, all are tropical wonders. We changed to the top of the building. I didn't expect a few rains in the house when the rain was heavy. We were very touched when the staff watched the rain. The little episode did not ruin the mood. Watching a piece of golden bamboo outside can be a good memory. Those who love dessert, food and photography will be satisfied.

The environment is much better than in Kandy. Going through a bumpy road. It's very gray. Sometimes it's blocked. The hotel was nice to check in early when we checked in that day. As the brother of the Tutu bus in Colombo was too enthusiastic to help us buy a seven-point train ticket, the next morning at breakfast, Ms. Checkin came over to say one of the reservations. To make up the difference. I think the hotel in Sri Lanka is curious that the price for one and two people is different. Later, the difference was more expensive than Ctrip. I still feel uncomfortable. She did n’t say when she checked in. Breakfast was okay. I ’m not quite used to the buffet here. The fried egg brother opened my stack of fried eggs by hand. The fruits are all papaya and watermelon. They are not very rich. The floor-to-ceiling window of the restaurant was not like that when I booked. There are three glass pieces in the middle. Bedding was more comfortable. Kandy was dirty and messy overall. I did n’t think I would come back, and the room had a balcony.

Freedom of Sri Lanka from December 29th to January 7th, it's very beautiful: if you don't choose this hotel (one night on December 31st), it will be close to perfection! An unpleasant experience: holding the confirmation (paid), but the front desk said that the price was adjusted, and the order was invalid. why? Answer: The problem with travel agencies in your country! Hotels and travel agencies negotiate endlessly ... ………… Direct loss nearly 3 hours, no choice but to compromise, pay cash to check in …… You have to pay $ 165 Alright alright. Wrong, why is there no dinner? (My original order was with breakfast and dinner) Bringing dinner costs $ 285! Exactly $ 285! Obediently, did you downgrade without permission? Expensive, it must be the same as my original order! !! !! (It turns out that the dinner was too bad: buffet style, no decent main course, breakfast level, additional drinks: $ 50 weak) Before I checked in, I stored my luggage, and the luggage number was marked with the room number ... After 3 hours of peeling, the manager-level person said: I apologize for the unpleasant experience you have, we give you Upgraded the room for free! Room 302. Yes, Room 302, it was indicated on the luggage list 3 hours ago! !! !! ? ? ? Naked, my IQ has been seriously underestimated: from 652 yuan (original price) to the final payment of 1995 yuan, thanks to the hotel free upgrade room? ... of course the final difference Ctrip has been refunded After numerous confirmations afterwards, Ctrip called the hotel on December 28 to agree to the price adjustment (Dec 31?) By the way: I booked on December 10th, 652 yuan / room • night By the way: Sri Lanka ’s per capita daily consumption is less than $ 1 By the way: except for sleeping time, 1/3 of the time is pulling the skin at the hotel front desk

It is indeed a hotel with a very long history, a beautiful restaurant with a garden pool, a European style, a huge wooden room door, and a very high room rack, which shows the former glory. but! !! !! Definitely not recommended! Very poor sound insulation! very bad! very bad! Our room was arranged on the second floor, next to the restaurant. First, the lobby bar played and sang until 10:30 in the evening. At the end, we thought we could fall asleep. Around 12 o'clock, a bunch of Europeans who had drunk drinks continued chatting in the lobby bar and laughed loudly. To half past one! No one manages, almost no sound insulation! Finally they returned to the room to rest, the bulky wooden door was closed without any buffer, like firing! Noisy all night without sleep, collapse! Never stay here!

The hotel enjoys a great location, on the mountain, on the cliff side, watching the sunset and the night sky is very beautiful. We booked a penthouse suite, which is very large. One large bed with two small beds is very friendly to the second-born family. There is a swing. The children like it very much. After dark, mosquitoes are in the lobby, but there is no mosquito in the room, indicating that the mosquito prevention work is still good. The rooms are decorated with Sri Lankan local characteristics. For dinner, the two nights are different, but they are all special Sri Lankan diets. The first night is a combination of white rice and several dishes, including chicken curry, onion salad, and some local Sri Lankan specialties. The second night is fried rice with the whole Fried eggs, although the juice and water have to be charged separately, but the price is not expensive, the breakfast is made fresh, and their bread is the most fragrant I have eaten in Sri Lanka. The juice coffee is also good. On the first day, the water flowing in the sink was very mommy. Later, I went out to play and came back the next day. I found that the water had passed through and the water was very small.
