It was my second stay and it was great. I was very satisfied with the number of items and the deliciousness of the private beach breakfast buffet and moving around the hotel using a cart.

Canaan resort is located to the north of the little island of Kohama, Okinawa. This place was re-opened by a young couple who did a partial makeover of an old dame, dated 30+ years ago. This unassuming resort does not pretend to be luxurious and hence the price is right and there’s no overpromising. It’s a no-frills basic stay, with the rooms however freshly renovated with modern bathtubs overlooking the ocean, clean carpets and beddings, mini fridge, hot water flasks and lovely french-inspired toiletries. The place feels like a Japanese take of Santorini in the 80s. A total of 4 pax runs the large resort so be prepared that on busy days the cafe only operates during tea time and not lunch hours. The freshly roasted coffee is amazing and the home baked cakes are delicious. A stretch of beach with a private cove is located just 5mins away. We are a family of 5 who came a long way from Singapore and are charmed by this simple resort and the hardwork of the small team who runs the overwhelmingly large estate. We’ll certainly choose to stay here again when we next visit!

Access from Ohara Port is good, but there were many group dissolutions of activities at Uehara Port, so we moved early in the morning. It's not too inconvenient if you have a rental car. The breakfast was delicious and I'm glad I could borrow a washing machine. The stars were really beautiful because there was nothing around.

I spent 1 night and it was fine, but not great. Staff spoke some english, but not what i'd consider fluent. My room was clean & quiet, but wasn't all that comfortable. The AC unit remote was only in japanese, and i never figured out how to get it cool the room. The wifi worked ok from the main building, but was nearly unusable in my room (slow and frequently stopped working for minutes at a time). The hot water in the bathroom required setting a cryptic thermostat in advance. Beds were asia hard, plus rice pillows which was not a great experience. The only great aspect was the food. Both breakfast & dinner were excellent, with a variety of traditional foods.

When we read in the guidebook that we should definitely stay over night on Taketomi Jima to escape the daytripper crowds we searched for a relaxed place to stay there. The Taketomijima Guesthouse and je Taime looked nice and clean and had a good price on offer so we booked (although we didn't really like the name of the guesthouse and we don't really see the point in adding 'and je t'aime' to the name but i guess that's not for us to judge). The guesthouse is clean and the rooms are very nicely designed with an eye for the detail. From my bunk bed I could see the palm trees through the window. The location of the place is dead quiet at night so you can only get disturbed by fellow travellers staying next door since rooms do have venting holes in the walls so you can easily hear what's going on next door. There are reasonably priced drinks (beers and sodas) in the fridge where you can help yourself by putting money into a money box. The shared washrooms are clean and the separate toilet booth boasts a Toto mercedes benz luxury toilet like I've never seen anywhere else in Japan! All spotless and clean. However, if you need to go to the toilet during the night then you have to leave the building - just keep this in mind. The rooms do not have air condition but fans. We didn't mind since we visited in April but I can imagine it could get quite warm during summer time. Taketomi itself is beautiful and the village is very picturesque. Getting around by rental push bike is easy and beaches are clean. There is a good place to eat nearby (see uploaded picture #1). We had difficulties finding the place. On the "road" right outside the building there is a sign pointing to somewhere but there is no sign right at the entrance of the guesthouse (which is btw on the western end of the building with the bar standing to the right of the entrance. See attached picture #2). The entrance door is very low so mind your head when getting off your shoes before entering. The entire entrance area with the table in front and blankets and clothes hanging to dry didn't look like a guesthouse entrance but more like a normal home owner place. The guesthouse does look much more pretty from the inside than from the outside. At 11 p.m. you are not allowed to sit outside of the guesthouse anymore. Strictly forbidden. So after 11pm we moved to the close Nishi peer which is btw an AMAZING place for late night drinking (if you brought your own booze that is. Stock up on Iriomote!) especially during full moon. A few words to Taketomi: beautiful island but there is only one beach where you're officially allowed to swim (Kondoi beach). People seem to be very strict on rules and you can feel that they are all one big family who don't want their island to get too touristy. When arriving by ferry don't expect anybody to pick you up. You need to walk to the guesthouse, which is not that far but might be a bit cumbersome if you didn't bring a backpack but a trolley.

The location is on Taketomi Island. Take a boat from Ishigaki Island (the round-trip ticket is bought in Ishigaki Island), and then there is a hotel car from Hoshinoya to pick up and drop off. It is very convenient. It takes ten minutes to reach the hotel. The hotel’s service is very good. It is a very traditional Japanese etiquette reception. The room is very clean. It is very suitable for taking children or the elderly on vacation. There is a village nearby where you can go around by bicycle. The building of the room is very beautiful, everything is very particular, the room has a very fragrant wood fragrance

Lovely room with fantastic view in quiet location. The staff were all really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful especially Nakazawa-san who also speaks very good English. If you don't have a car the hotel has a great shuttle service to help you get around. Breakfast was Japanese style and delicious. What more could you ask for!

This seaside hotel is part of a hotel group, as the shuttle bus from the airport is passing three stops, two of which are two other hotels and the third is the hotel. There is a shuttle bus from the airport and you can go directly to the hotel. I think the price/performance ratio of this hotel is still quite high. The swimming pool has a beach, there is a restaurant downstairs, the breakfast is very good, the variety is complete, and there is a special food area for children. If you can, ask the front desk to assign you a room on the 4th floor, because the room on the 4th floor has a loft, a family with lots of people, in fact, the room for two people can live for 4~5 people, no problem, plus the bed here is two Zhang 1 meter 5, put together is a super king bed. The bathroom is very upscale and the toiletries inside are pola. The staff is generally in English, but there is a beautiful woman at the front desk who can speak fluent English. It is very quiet at night, and you can see a lot of stars when the weather is good.

Hotels Near Parlor Achan In Taketomi Review

Had a really relaxing stay in this cozy place. The host, Yamashita family, was so kind and very much knowledgeable about the island. The dinner was stunning - various kinds of local tropical fish - most of which I had never had - was beautifully cooked and tasted so good. The fishing and snorkeling tour Yamashita family guided us was superb - they took us to various snorkeling spots where “ordinary” tours would not take tourists. The room was very clean (never seen any insects in the room! which is quite rare in this island) and the price was quite reasonable. The hotel is in the middle of the traditional “Hoshidate” village, which was quite fun to walk around. Really recommend this place to those who would like to experience the local life in Iriomote while feeling “wind from the south” - the name of this hotel.

This beautiful hotel, which was completely renovated and opened under new owners in 2019, faces directly onto a lovely beach in a tranquil cove. It is set in the typically Okinawan village of Hoshitate, with a supermarket and ramen restaurant a short walk away. Kimiko and Yuji are the most delightful hosts, attentive, gentle, undemanding, and kind. Both speak excellent English (Yuji is also an English teacher in Ishigaki) and took care of all our organisational needs. Nothing was too much trouble, from calling tour companies to giving us lifts and helping us plan our days. The tranquility of the hotel and the great comfort of the rooms made for a restorative and recuperative stay. Indeed we extended twice, finding here everything we could have wished for. Though by no means necessary, we rented a car from a nearby company and easily got ourselves to all the wonders that Iriomote has to offer - snorkelling trips, a river cruise and treck to the waterfalls, a boatride to the paradisical beach at Funauki, and to excellent local Izakayas. Hotel Iriomote Island Hoshitate soon became our home and we loved walking along the beach in the mornings and stargazing after dinner at night. We stayed for over two weeks, never wanting to move anywhere else, and hoping that we shall be the regular guests of Kimiko and Yuji from now on. A big thanks to both!

We were lucky enough to spend four nights at the Mayagusuku Resort earlier this month. It is truly a hidden gem. The house, it's quiet location, access to the beach (which had never more than three people on it), beautiful view are all good reasons to spend a few nights in this tiny island resort. The hosts, Tome and Shigemi (together with dog, Kenta) were just lovely. We enjoyed really good food and were grateful for good advice and several lifts to the supermarket, ferry and excursion spots. Hope to come back some day!

Great location The pension is a 4 minute walk from one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. And what’s more it was almost entirely empty for most of the time we were there. The rooms in the pension are basic but quite comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent. We didn’t have an evening meal there but Ito san, the owner, recommended several local places and made reservations. He even drove us to one restaurant which was a longer walk as he didn’t want us to walk on the road in case we met a Habu snake! This restaurant, Hatsue was particularly excellent. There is a nice little garden and a lounge area. It would have been nice if there could have been tea/coffee making facilities and some drinks.
