We picked the hotel because of room space for our family of 5 and indoor pool. Upon arrival on a Friday at 5:30pm no one was at the front desk, finally the woman managing the front desk came out from the office (no smile or welcome given). I also saw a sign on the entrance of the pool stating ’pool closed for maintenance’, so I asked the woman at the front desk if it was opening the following day, but I was given a very short response of ‘I don’t know’; not the response I would expect from a hospitality professional, something like ‘oh I’m sorry I’m not sure but I can check with maintenance’; but nothing close to that. Then unfortunately our experience did not get any better once we got to our room. My husband wanted to take a quick shower and it immediately was evident that the drain was clogged. We tried calling for maintenance but phone line was busy, so I went down to the lobby again to an empty reception desk. Once she came out from the office I informed her of the drain issue and I was told there is no one to assist and no other available rooms (although she didn’t check/confirm that via the computer system). Again, with three kids a working tub is a necessity. I will give one piece of positive feedback, the young woman at the desk on Saturday morning was very pleasant and tried to be as accommodating as possible. She had put in a request for maintenance to come to our room which was supposed to be around 9am. We left the hotel at around 10 without having maintenance arrive. Just a disappointing visit. I’m a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member and have never experienced anything remotely close to this, typically positive stays when in the Marriott family.

I stayed at this hotel during my birthday weekend with some friends, when we first arrived there was a lady at the front desk who I said hello to, stared at me, shook her head, and continued to work on the computer. After putting my stuff in my room, my friends and I went to look at the pool and look at the dining area, while in the dining area we noticed a door was open and WE DID NOT enter the door, we just looked through and said “that’s probably where they set up breakfast” before we could walk away a member of staff loudly said “no no, uh-uh, you’re not allowed in there” brushed past us and closed the door. I said to her “Ma’am we weren’t going to enter, we were just looking” she kept saying “no uh-uh” and brushed past again. We agreed it was rude and decided to let it be until later when I asked for extra towels, wash clothes, and pillows so that room service wouldn’t have to come until the end of my stay, this same woman scoffed, wrote down what I asked for and said “she’ll see”. Later that evening, in the dining area, my friends and I gathered so we could eat our food and play a few card games quietly with each other, the hotel manager told us that we were too loud, yet we hadn’t said anything because we were eating (I’ve never met a group of people who get loud when they start eating). We quietly sang happy birthday to me and dispersed to our rooms at 12:45am. The next day, we came back at 10:30pm into the dining area with our food and few more friends, we quietly ate and chatted, and the lady from the day before shut the lights off on us at 11:45, the hotel staff claimed the dining area was closed. I asked one of the men at the front “what time it closed” and he didn’t look at me and didn’t give me an answer, so I asked again and he said “it’s closed, we close it at eleven”. So I asked “if this was a new rule, because the previous night we stayed until 12:45am and there weren’t any issue. My guests and I aren’t loud, also we are guests at this hotel, could you have at least asked us to leave fifteen minutes before shutting off the lights ?” He then says “maybe I made an exception yesterday, but I don’t remember, so the area is closed” so we STOP eating, pack up our things, go to our rooms and prepare to check out the next day. I had left one of my juices downstairs, so I went to go back and get it, the lights in the dining area were on and there were six people sitting there in front of the fire place laughing and carrying on. There were only three members of staff that were kind to me and guests during my birthday weekend and unfortunately I couldn’t remember their names, including the cleaning staff. I probably wouldn’t come back to this hotel specifically and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone either.

My Maryland driver's license was to renew in August, but because of COVID, is valid until 30 days after the state of emergency is lifted; I have an official MVA letter so stating, dated July 31. The desk clerk , who turned out to be the manager, Kendra, said she would "accept it this time, but next time . . ." and argued with me about whether the state of emergency has been lifted, as MVA has been operating (by appointment only) since June. She insists that means the state of emergency has been lifted. I have confirmed with both the Governor's Office and the MVA that not ony has it not been lifted, in fact it was renewed in October. Further, Kendra refused to even look at the MVA letter and refused to discuss it further with me, talking over me and cutting me off.  When I stated that I would report the facility to the Governor's Office, she canceled my reservation on the spot, leaving me without lodging and forcing me to cancel two business meetings at the last minute. She told me, "I'm not going to go back and forth with you. Red Roof Inn is a private company and not binded [sic] by the State of Maryland." Really?! Since when do businesses operating in Maryland not have to abide by Maryland regulations? This occurred on December 14 at about 2:30 PM. I must say, I have rarely encountered such flagrant rudeness, to say nothing of ignorance. When a state agency affirms one's state-issued ID as valid, what is one to do? This is my second negative experience with this facility. The first time they checked me (with the same license, this Fall) into a room that hadn't even been cleaned. The desk clerk was far more couteous and  professional than the manager and remedied the problem speedily. Not at all recommended.

I called to see if rooms were available and if pets were accepted, to which I received two "yeses." Ayo was very pleasant, efficient, and accommodating for check-in. We got a room on the first floor of this recently refurbished hotel. The room was clean (except the floor could have been swept better and they were a bit sticky.). The furnishings were not outdated or beat, and the bathroom and sink areas were clean. The king-size bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows and a lightweight comforter. The continental breakfast was opened a bit earlier than the 6:30 a.m. schedule and was not lacking any items as was our previous night's hotel. Definitely a returnable place and maybe will be able to use the gym then.

After 8 hour driving in heavy traffic and got cut in rush hours traffic, decided to exit from HW 95 to find out this Holiday Inn, just at the very first corner. What a nice experience, welcome by the director, all the services are accessible, the room is very clean and the personnel so friendly. For my next trip to this area, I definitely return to this excellent place.

In full disclosure, I did not stay at this property. I wanted to stay at this property but they gave me enough reasons to book a room somewhere else. As a Hilton HHonors Diamond Member, I stay at a lot of Hilton properties and use the Hilton HHonors credit card. I stay at Hilton properties because they are almost always high quality, have an excellent price match guarantee, and provide me free breakfast, free wi-fi, and free room upgrades (when available) as a Diamond Member. When I called this hotel to inquire if they had SMART TVs, if I could chromecast apps from my phone, or if the TVs have access to Netflix or YouTube (as is available at many Hilton properties), the woman at the front desk did not know. When she asked the engineering department, they also did not know, and they told her that no one had ever asked those questions before. Since I spend a lot of time in the hotel with my girlfriend, those features are important to us. I'm surprised that I was apparently the first person to ever ask about those features at this hotel. It seems like even the cheapest TVs these days are SMART TVs. Unlike any of the five other Hilton properties I've stayed at in the DC area over the past six months (some of them twice), this property does not honor Hilton's price match guarantee. So, I could not get the lower price I found through Priceline plus the additional 25% discount off that price (which is their normal price-match guarantee). When I asked the woman in the price match department if I could still get my Hilton HHonors perks (free breakfast, free wi-fi, and free room upgrades) if I booked through Priceline at the lower price, she said that I could. However, when I called the hotel to confirm, I was told that I could not get ANY of my Hilton HHonors perks if I booked a room at their hotel through a third party. I would also not get any Hilton HHonors points. Sadly, my experience with this hotel was sub-par and far below the normal high-quality experience I'm accustomed to as Hilton HHonors Diamond Member. I will stay at another Hilton property in the Columbia area that can provide me with a better guest experience. Or I might stay at a non-Hilton property. Based on my experience, this hotel should not be a Hilton property.

Check in was good, lady was so nice and professional. She welcomed us and told us all of the amenities. Complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate were available in the lobby 24/7. The only concerns i had at check in was that I had already checked in through the app and selected my room but when we arrived, it was as if the check in never happened. We ended up on a whole other floor in a completely different room. I will agree there never seemed to be anyone at the desk. There was a handwritten sign each time stating they stepped away from the desk and the reason why. Room was clean. Minor marks on the wall but nothing to complain about. The room was HUGE, the bathroom and carpets were clean. Walls were a bit thin so you could hear a lot but that's to be expected. Temp in room was comfortable as was the bed. I have OCD and am a clean freak so it was up to par. Breakfast was so/so. Food was hot, eggs were delicious. 2 types of potatoes were not so great. Good assortment of muffins, bagels were pre-wrapped in closed plastic bags which was a plus. It would have been nice to see more sanitizing procedures. No one was there wiping anything down, there was no hand sanitizer, etc. Check out was a breeze through the app and we just dropped the keys in a bowl at the front desk. No one was there again and just leaving the keys in the bowl seemed a bit unsafe. Also when checking out through the app, usually you get a receipt via email right away. It took 30 minutes and a phone call to the hotel to get the receipt but was then received immediately. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and we will stay here again in the future!
