|0.42km from city centerStopped at Holiday Inn Cardiff from Friday to Sunday to see the speedway at principality stadium. Hotel was perfect location for us. Easy to park at the hotel which was an added bonus as at other hotels we’ve had to park at NCPs. Rooms were good and spotlessly clean. The air conditioning worked extremely well and was a nice change from the heatwave outside! Hotel was very quiet which was surprising given how busy it was. Had breakfast both mornings, which had a good choice with the buffet being topped up regularly. Despite being an extremely busy weekend we were seated instantly and didn’t have to wait for the buffet top ups. The only thing letting the hotel down and giving a reduction in rating was reception. The receptionists came across very cold and did not display the “true hospitality” which we usually see at IHG hotels. Did not feel welcomed at all. The coldness and abruptness was felt at both check in and check out by different staff.

|0.97km from city centerIt’s a budget guest house and does not pretend to be anything else. The room was basic but had the essentials, and was clean. The self service log in worked without problems, and the room was quiet. Perfectly acceptable for a short stay. But parking is a big issue, the nearest parking is a 10 min walk away and that car park is very expensive, which negates staying in a budget hotel! But a good choice if not reliant on car parking, as the location is very central and not far from the main train station.

|0.08km from city centerLauren was amazing - found us a room that we could check into around 7am when our flight was cancelled a couple of hours earlier. Lauren even printed our new boarding passes for us. Lovely staff member. Room was small but fine, no extra pillows were available though. Bathroom shower was lovely - very powerful :) Air con said 18 degrees but I’m not sure it was quite that cool. Location is excellent and great value for money. Again, kudos to Lauren! Remember - no restaurant on site but PLENTY of options on the doorstep!

Couldn't believe how quiet it was in the rooms considering we were there on a Six Nations weekend. Superb security on a Six Nations weekend that ensured only residents could access the Hotel. The rooms are compact, but perfectly formed, you have everything you need!! Bed was super comfy too! We didn't opt for breakfast so can't comment on that, but I would highly recommend this great Hotel. We would absolutely return!

Rooms are pretty sp**** in furniture, we booked a executive suite on 18th floor, so view was great. Room was clean and we were only staying the night for a gig. Our room door had some sort of locking problem where it didn't lock until you unlocked it while open then closed the door, lucky I'm a but OCD about this sort of thing and tried the door as we left for the evening to find it openable from corridor. We couldn't shower the next morning as the cold water tap turned but no water came out, hot tap was scorching but no way of cooling it down. Breakfast was pretty ordinary tbf, nothing to write home about, hot held, mass cooked low on taste. Reported door and shower issues on leaving. An apology but no offer of a discount or voucher to compensate, especially about the shower. Shame we really wanted it to be a great experience as we have a few Cardiff trips planned and wanted a regular base.

Used the Spa and really enjoyed the hydrotherapy funnels. Try and avoid child swim times if you want a little peace. Breakfast was vast offering everything you could possibly need. Catering for vegans too. Lovely stay

|0.84km from city centerOn arrival very small car park luckily one parking space left, Outside looks very run down, I was initially pleasantly surprised when walking in, the lobby looked very clean and tidy around the reception desk, until we saw the beer all over the floor and dirty cups on tables from the free coffee (we’ll get to the bit) There was a large group of “stag” goers ahead of us, who clearly hadn’t booked rooms as they were trying to work out what rooms were available, there was one lady trying her best to sort the group out with 3 other staff watching her, we waited for around 10mins Until an exasperated look from a party member towards who looked like the manager prompted him to use the hand held device to book us in, A key card was given …. No directions to my room, no info on breakfast times, no other info at all …. Just crack on …. I walked through the mini Lake District of beer to the lift, swiped my card and waited 2-3 mins …. The screen wasn’t working and the lift didn’t come so I used the stairs to the 4th floor, Found my “room” when I walked in it’s tiny, budget is the word, this was beyond budget, not even a mini kettle, the sink is in the room as is the shower, with a separate toilet cubicle, the frosted glass on the shower is made more so by the build up of lime Scale and watermarks no handle just a hole to use, this is ok as I’m alone but the other party had a 14yr old lad in a “family” room so not really acceptable in my eyes, the cubical was VERY small, my friend could barley get in, at 110kg but a power lifter he’s broad but not “huge” I’m 6ft 1 wear a large t-shirt and found it hard to shower In it. The room are run down, probably nice a few years ago (has wood chip wallpaper) . The skirting is coming away scuff marks every where, dust on the very small archaic tv, the air con unit didn’t work and the toilet rolls Sat on the floor behind the cistern (despite there being a hook to put them on) There was a “stool” that looked like an upturned washing bin, to a small desk I could only find 2 plugs I know the whole Room, couldn’t charge my watch/phone and iPad over night, (yes small Inconvenience but still annoying) The tv wouldn’t get a picture, I went to the front desk but no one was there, I bumped into the night porter earlier who seemed very friendly though so I’m guessing he was busy elsewhere. So I thought “ooh I’ll grab a coffee while I’m here”, small sachets of Nescafé original and plastic milk, I’ll pass thanks, Bed basic and comfy enough, not like Home but I suppose it is a budget hotel, The breakfast looked dire, continental for £6.50, I’ll hit the coop over the road or McDonald’s on the way home, All for an extortionate £140, there was an event on close by and this may have bumped the price a little but by 90£ on the base rate of £52 is crazy greed Needless to say I shall not be staying in one again, I Hope the normal ibis I have booked next month is better

|0.09km from city centerI stayed here Friday night as I was attending a wedding. There was limited accommodation available in Cardiff city centre due to a few events being on and all the hotels I usually stay at were either fully booked or had tripled in price so I stayed here. I arrived at just gone 4 to drop my case off and freshen up as it was 35°! I was greeted by a lovely lady and directed to my room on the second floor. Yes the hotel isn't suitable for those with mobility issues, but this is clearly stated on sites as there is no lift. My room, linen and towels were spotlessly clean. Plenty of tea and coffee supplied and 2 bottles of water which was welcome because of the heat. There was also a fan in the room which you don't get in many hotels and again very welcome. I went to the reception returning at 1am and greeted by the night Watchman, another lovely member of staff who asked if I'd enjoyed the wedding and let me in a few time after while I popped out for cigarettes and chatted. I usually book a double room but none were available but the beds were 3/4 so plenty of room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep until 7am. I was woken by the property next door making an awful lot of noise for half an hour. Not the hotels fault and I believe they supply ear plugs if you ask, as I was at the back I didn't ask. After a lovely shower I packed up and went to check out. Check out, like check in was speedy with the same lovely lady who asked how the wedding had been. Left my bags there while I went shopping and picked them up a couple of hours later. I had a phone call after that as I'd left my spare phone in the room. Unfortunately I was on the way home but she arranged for my cousin to pick it up. I will definitely stay again. Cheaper than my usual hotels and just as close to the shops and pubs.

|0.76km from city centerWe stayed here one night and it was perfect for what we needed! We are a family of 5 with 3 young adult children and it’s hard to find a hotel room to accommodate 5 people. Steve was very nice, present, let us check in early and leave our bags the next morning while we toured the castle before catching our next train. His communication was excellent before and during our stay. The room was clean. The shower was hot and with good water pressure. The garden out back was a lovely place to sit and read. Location was very good - very close to the castle, stadium and main shopping area. I would recommend.

|1.17km from city centerThe room was pleasant enough, with a comfortable bed and TV with Netflix etc. The shower however had a broken shower head, which was easily fixed so wasn't too much of a bother. We however did have a quarter filled bottle of shower gel in our shower. There is also not much storage, if staying for more than a few nights. Our room was also not cleaned daily, as advertised. No one ever cleaned our room while we were out. We were fortunate enough to not encounter any staff until the morning we were meant to be leaving. No staff greet you as you come in, but that didn't bother us much in terms of self check in. But might not be suitable to guests with special needs. The worst of it had to be the 'Guest Relations Coordinator' Luke H. We emailed after being horribly awoke by a blaring alarm at 7am - when check out wasn't until 10am. We see this is a staff error and/or a misguided attempt at awaking guests 3 hours before check out. My disabled girlfriend was visibly distressed by this event, so wrote an email saying we would have to check out later has she would have to calm down from this experience, as she was very overwhelmed. Then instead of simply emailing a response, to us being upset at our rude awakening. Luke H, decided the most intelligent course of action would be to pound on our door half an hour later - only waking us further. He was beyond aggressive, agitated and confrontational in this interaction and I can honestly say I was in fear for our safety with his erratic and unpredictable behaviour during our conversation. I simply agreed with was he said, to try and stop his emotions spiral further out of control, in between his unhinged ramblings, stomping and pounding. After that situation was defused, we made sure our door was looked, in fear of his return. I would suggest to the hotel that Luke H, be place on some kind of company funded anger management course/support group to help him control these outbursts and for the general safety of guests and those who work with him. All the best. I would say that we would comeback to the hotel, as otherwise it was a positive experience, but the fear of seeing this man again will forever stop that from being possible. Luke H. is a truly terrifying individual and I would advise everyone who stays here to be wary of him.

HOWEVER a number of our group have received penalty notices from the council for use of the bus lane to enter the car park . We rang reception to guide us in with the immortal words “don’t worry about the bus lane “! We missed the car park altogether on our first trip round due to none signage outside the hotel ,and went round again as our sat nav pointed us that way as well . So that’s £140 on top of the car park charge . You need to update your travel instructions into the property and get a car park sign now !

|6.71km from city centerThe bed was comfy and the shower very good. Unfortunately that’s where the good parts end. Room was ok, carpet not particularly clean and the room was not serviced. When I asked I was told that the beds were not made but towels and tea/coffee were replenished- this had not happened. We were all awoken at 5am with the unbelievable noisy bins being emptied. Food average and for a hotel not badly priced. Breakfast ok but little choice as far as healthy options were concerned.Staff very helpful and friendly on the bar but did not have a clue about drinks. Left white wine out on the counter so it was not cold and at £11 a glass this was not on. The bar was noisy in the evenings with loud music or sport on the screen so not relaxing at all. Overall this is set up for working people where the company pays for the stay so guest generally not too bothered about the quality of the stay. Would not stay again unless I had to on business.

Wedding was on Friday and the maltsters arms very kindly allowed us to have dinner with them on Saturday night, there was 18 of us!!! Hats off to the chef and kitchen staff for the most amazing food, from starters to desserts and delicious drinks and cocktails 5 stars. We would highly recommend the hotel to anyone. The manager sorry can’t remember your name, was friendly and helpful. Lastly to Ben for his hospitality and professionalism in helping to book us all in on Saturday night, it was a wonderful ending to all of our trip to beautiful Cardiff. |0.53km from city centerStayed for three nights as a getaway after Christmas. We travelled by train and the hotel was fairly easy to find, about 10-15 minutes walk from the station. The check-in was quick and painless and we were given a room on the 8th floor of this 10-floor hotel so the room was quiet away from the street noise. We didn't eat in the hotel, mainly because the choice of food didn't suit our tastes and we wanted to sample food in the neighbouring restaurants. The Main Street is only about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and St. David's Shopping Mall is about the same distance.The room was clean and comfortable and we would have had a great night's sleep if it hadn't been for the fact that the room was cold, despite turning the heating control up to its maximum of 30 degrees! We were surprised that there was no telephone in the room and were amazed that, despite knowing that two people were booked into the room for three nights, the management had only provided one bath towel and one hand towel. On our way out on the first morning we attempted to ask for additional towels at reception but couldn't find anyone until I went into the restaurant and asked if anyone was available in Reception. Despite these small issues, we would return mainly due to the great location.

|0.45km from city centerWe arrived a bit early and were able to leave our luggage in the storage room and we received a ticket for this which was good. Our room was really comfortable and there was ample space to hang up my dresses. The bathroom was a good size and there was a bath. We were on the railway station side but with the window closed, you could barely hear them. The bed was comfortable. The staff were really kind and helpful. You could hear people coming back into their rooms and unlocking their doors which could be a bit disconcerting but overall I really liked the hotel. Easy to walk to the main stations and along the river.

Anyway, hadn't stayed in the Travelodge Cardiff Central Queen Street despite it being round the corner from the office building I was based in at the time. ”Round the corner” is pretty much how I would sum up staying at Cardiff Central Queen Street. Travelodge hotels are pretty similar to each other but this very central location for visiting the city is just absolutely brilliant. Would happily stay here again.

We enjoyed a one night stay in a comfortable, spotlessly clean room followed by a freshly cooked delicious full Welsh breakfast. The owners and their team were friendly and most helpful. Ideally situated within a 10/15 minutes walk to the city through Sophia Gardens yet far enough out to be on a reasonably quiet main road. Plenty of non city centre pubs close by. Perfect venue for the cricket ground. We will return.

|0.43km from city centerAfter having a number of afternoon tea’s in this hotel I’m saddened to say that todays experience was not like it has been in the past. The food was still good but the experience and service was a huge let down compared to before. The Hendricks afternoon tea’s have stopped which is sad as many of us would of had these. I ordered a second cup of coffee and ended up waiting 25 minutes for this. Some of my friends mentioned their coffee’s were cold. One asked for a second pot of tea, she was asked if she wanted a fresh pot or the one she’d been drinking topped up, she requested a fresh pot but received the same pot of tea back having just been topped up with hot water. The tea was weak and stewed. The Welsh cakes were dry and stale plastered in sugar! The atmosphere was lovely however it’s sad that we have all agreed we will not go back again (party of 13)! Plus there was a 10% service charge on top of the price for our afternoon tea. We gave a little more but thinking back on this I wish I had said no. Sorry to have to write this review.

The front desk clerk is white. In addition, you can take the T4 at the entrance of the hotel in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The journey is more than one hour, and the round-trip fare is 8 pounds.

|1.09km from city centerThis hotel is such fantastic value for money!!! With a free breakfast included in the room price and kitchen facilities that you can use to prepare your evening meal. Located close to a coach stop and train station, with a location that you can easily commute around Cardiff from. The only thing is that their toilet and shower facilities are not en-suite but outside of your room, a small sacrifice to endure for such a bargain. The rooms are clean and warm. The owners and staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. There are ground floor rooms available which is helpful for those with mobility issues or young children. This will now be my go to hotel whenever I stay in Cardiff.
