|0.35km from city centerWe arrived in Durham late afternoon after driving for hours from the Lakes district via Hadrian's wall in Hexham. We were greeted by the host William. After check-in we asked William for directions to Durham Cathedral. Unfortunately we got lost and couldn't get there. We got back to the B&B very tired and disappointed as we only had the date of arrival to visit the Cathedral. We were tired and told William that we will just rest up for our trip up north the next day. William wouldn't hear of it and offered to drive us to the Cathedral and even wait for us while we toured the Cathedral. We were embarrassed and did not want to trouble him but he insisted and took us in his car, acting as a tour guide he drove past many attractions and got us to the Cathedral. Once I knew the way, I asked if we could return to the B&B so I could drive us in our own car to the Cathedral and spend the evening around there. He recommended a few restaurants as we drove past them and took us back. We managed to drive back and attend evening song and then spent a lovely evening walking around. If it weren't for William, we would have just spent the evening in our room feeling sorry for our selves. Our room was at the top floor. As I was parking the car, my wife took a small suitcase in. An elderly woman insisted on carrying the bag upstairs and no matter how many times my wife tried, she insisted on taking it up. Breakfast was great. Although only street parking is available, William assured us that the area was safe and he was right. This is a family run B&B and William and his family could not be more hospitable, friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Moor End Guest House.

|0.91km from city centerSecond visit to this great hotel in an historic building. Reception staff are consistently excellent, friendly and helpful (apologies I am not sure of the girl who helped us out during our stay, but she was super professional). Restaurant staff are also super - front of house, and all the team superb. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The bar is fab and a great space to relax. Only one minor suggestion is to give the coffee bar staff some professional barista training - it’s a plus point for the hotel to have a good coffee bar.

|1.9km from city centerThe Queens Head is a lovely little BnB/Pub my partner and I both slept incredibly well, the room was spotless and the facilities were well maintained. The pub it’s self was lively with a friendly atmosphere, incredibly attentive staff and the breakfast was to die for. I could not recommend the eggs Benedict more. I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to my friends.

Durham
|2.95km from city centerThe Seven Stars, located in Shincliffe village 1.5 miles outside of the magnificent University and Cathedral City of Durham, is a converted 18th century coaching inn. If you like quaint it is a little gem. My wife and I stayed there recently in preference to staying in one of the large plastic palaces that constitute most modern hotel chains. On the ground floor there is a traditional pub lounge and three dining areas, one of which is set up for private dining. The residential area is on the first floor and is accessed by a steep and narrow staircase. Our en suite room was large, clean, warm and comfortable. It was tastefully decorated and there were tea/coffee making facilities as well as free wifi.. All of the staff were welcoming and helpful as were the locals in the bar and restaurant, making for a most conviviable atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed it. There is no carpark but we had no difficulty finding free on street parking. Outside there is a nearby bus stop into town though it is possible to walk into the City centre along the river. We would definitely stay there again.

|4.96km from city centerWe have had an absolutely amazing stay at Ramside to celebrate my 50th Birthday. We stayed in a treehouse which was utterly superb and took my breath away!! Beautiful interiors and furnishings along with wonderful outdoor area with your own hot tub and sauna...a truly wonderful experience. The service is second to none. The concierge was literally on tap to take you to and from the main hotel. Nothing was ever a problem. The main Spa pool had plenty of seating and limitless supply of towels, robes and flip flops to make you relaxed and comfortable. The Fusion Restaurant was fabulous too. 9 of us ate at the restaurant, the food was served piping hot in beautiful Asian inspired bowls and plates and looked utterly mouthwatering and tasted delicious, we couldn't fault it....The cocktails are gorgeous too I can highly recommend the strawberry breeze for any gin lovers out there! Wow!! A huge thank you, to the wonderful dedicated staff at Ramside, for making our weekend just perfect and one to remember...We will be back!!

Durham
|0.74km from city centerStayed 2 nights in a supposed twin room, which I think they upgraded us to a family room that had a bathtub :D location is 2 mins walk from the town hall with lots of resturant around & 10 mins from railway station. Very friendly staff who greets you every morning. Didn’t have breakfast included but the meal deal was pretty attractive (2 course meal + breakfast + drink for £24.99) so my friend and I decided to go for breakfast next morning (£9.90 for unlimited cooked + continental). Love the energy of the staffs :D

|0.81km from city centerStayed at this hotel for a two-night break in Durham with my partner. Staff were really welcoming & friendly. We had a double room with a ensuite which was clean & comfortable. Little extras like chocolates & sweets, tea, coffee and biscuits were appreciated. Enjoyed a few drinks in the bar downstairs too. Great location to explore Durham, only a short walk to the centre and train station. Would definitely stay here again if returning to Durham.

|0.4km from city centerWe visited tonight for a meal and had never been before despite living in Durham our entire lives. We were met with a very warm welcome and it was a lovely environment. Lovely and clean with tasteful decor. Dog friendly too which is always a bonus. We didn't have our dog with us but will certainly bring him next time as dogs were well catered for with treats and water. The food was superb and very good value for money. The drinks were spot on and the service was exceptional! We've never had better service anywhere else. We are delighted to have found this little gem on our doorstep. Thank you to the staff for making our experience so wonderful!

|1.06km from city centerWe got a lovely warm welcome at the townhouse! We were shown to our room (le jardin) and asked if we needed help with our bags. The room was beautiful and decorated with balloons and a banner for husbands birthday. The room has a small balcony with a hot tub and canopy covering the hot tub. Gorgeous bathroom and smart TV. The room was clean and warm. Lovely big comfortable bed. Ample on street parking outside (have to pay) and just down the road from the town centre. Cant wait to visit again and try another room

|3.43km from city centerI stayed at the hotel for 10 nights when visiting Durham to help my younger sister. A huge thank you to Colin and Mandy and the reception staff for their welcome, kindness and dealing with any minor problems I had. Overall my stay was good , apart from housekeeping occasionally forgetting to clean my room.? This really is a management, supervision issue. The staff also experienced problems and were stressed with a huge ” Irish ” wedding which hardly affected me but management really need to look at their priorities re regular guests v quick bucks. Or ensure extra staff and security are ramped up. Whilst I did eat at the Health Club I found the service here varied from vastly efficient and helpful to unbelievably slow. Maybe the catering facility needs specific areas for hotel guests who really don't have all the time in the World to spare !!. Many thanks again and good luck.

Durham
|0.75km from city centerEnjoyed experience. Took advantage of a paid for upgrade and the room was excellent. Generally, the upgrades were great (free parking), however, as part of the upgrade we got drink vouchers (6 x drinks per couple over two days). This was a bit footery as the choice of drinks was very limited (either bottled beer or glass of certain wines). I prefer draught beer and my wife doesn't partucularly like wine so we struggled what to choose. Buffet breakfasts are either hit or miss and on this occasion our experience was plenty of choice but the hot Buffet was luke warm at best. That said it is a really good hotel in a great location and catered for all our needs

The bathroom was lovely and the quality of the towels and bed linen was good. The bed and pillows were very comfortable - even for my husband! The breakfast was excellent and the service was friendly. There was nothing more you could want. They even had delicious homemade jam! Durham
|0.85km from city centerGood value if you stay for 7 plus nights on a long stay rate. Was happy with the size and facilities in my Queen room, however it was very hot and the aircon didn't work. The hotel is set in different (linked)buildings and one of the buildings was noticeably hotter both times I've stayed there in April and May. Both times the hotel upgraded me to a room on the riverside which is much cooler (with working air con) and with a view of the river. The housekeeping staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Lots of choice for breakfast and buffet kept topped up. Really enjoyed my stay - both times. Great location too!
