Hotels Near Polo Italian In Birmingham
0.12km from Polo ItalianAfter a very frightening encounter with an intruder on February 20, I must highlight a serious security problem with the Premier Inn New Street hotel. Premier Inn are my favourite hotel chain, and I stay in their hotels many times a year. But the New Street hotel has a very unusual - and dangerous - design. Entry from the street is into a small foyer with NO STAFF there at any time. The foyer leads to lifts and stairs. I booked into the hotel for 4 nights (20-23 Feb) to go to an event which finished late each evening. On Thursday 20 February, I came back to the hotel just after 11 pm. I used my keycard to open the door to the stairs, to go to my room on the 3rd floor. I thought this would be a secure route, as only guests and staff with keycards should be able to access it. On the second landing, a man, in outdoor clothes but with his shoes in his hand, was trying to open the glass door which leads to the bedrooms, A keycard is needed to open this, and clearly he did not have one. I saw that muddy possessions were scattered around him, and suspected that he was one of the (sadly, many) homeless people based around New Street Station, who had somehow got into the hotel. I started to climb the next flight of stairs to my floor, and realised that he was following me . I am 66, weigh 8 stone and am not trained in martial arts! Fortunately, I can still run. I ran to the glass door to my floor, and used my keycard, which I had deliberately kept in my hand for quick use. I then slammed the door shut, just in time.Behind me, the man hammered on the door with his fist, and shouted at me at the top of his voice. I have no idea what mental state he was in, or what would have happened if he had caught up with me. He was only about two seconds behind me. There were no other guests or staff to be seen. I was extremely shaken. I locked myself in my room, and realised I ought to ring Reception at once. But there was no telephone with a number for Reception, nor was there a number on any of the hotel information cards in the room. Eventually I overcame shock, looked up the external phone number of the hotel and rang it. The member of staff on Reception was extremely helpful, and promised to investigate and log the call (which they did). The next day I spoke to the day manager on duty, who was called Alex. He could not have been more concerned and considerate. He confirmed that the incident had been logged, and said that he believed the intruder had been found. I was told later by Premier Inn's Customer Care team that the intruder had been described in the hotel log as a 'homeless person'. I must stress that I chose the stairs because the foyer to the hotel and its lift (which is often slow to arrive) are very insecure. By day, anyone can walk into the foyer after pressing the button. I believe that after 11 pm the doors are locked ,and in theory only guests can open them and enter. But I walked into the foyer just after 11 pm, without
0.19km from Polo ItalianPerfectly reasonable hotel lovely staff and check in was great. Location is good two minutes from New Street. My room (paying for windows) had two enormous windows overlooking the street so had to have the blinds closed all night so could have saved the £10. Room faced the street and was noisy so not the best night sleep. Was told I could have had a sky light window but when you pay for a window you want a window right? Lol This was £60 a night and was one of the cheapest hotels in Birmingham for two nights and that’s fine. However it’s basically a very small, very small!, room that’s about the standard of a basic Ibis and so it felt very expensive for what it is. I could have paid another £30 a night to stay in a better hotel and wish I had to be fair. The comparison of a good hotel at expensive prices versus this hotel which is very much budget at inflated prices. Perfectly clean and decent though. Won’t rush back.
0.33km from Polo ItalianGood location, just next to the Next Street stn, and close to the shopping arcades, Chinese Quarter, etc. You can enjoy all sorts of food and drinks, both western and eastern, within walking reach. Though my room was on the third floor facing the street, the traffic noise was minimal and endurable. Will come again for next travel.
0.34km from Polo ItalianAmazing trip to Staying Cool with dinner provided by the brilliant folk from the Wilderness Restaurant. All the food was excellent - so it's hard to select a favourite dish. Suffice to say, I asked for all the recipes! Not only did we have a magnificent dinner, but a perfect restorative breakfast was also brought to us the next morning. The rooms are lovely, clean, comfortable and great attention to detail. And the views from the 20th floor of the Rotunda are spectacular. The Staying Cool staff were friendly, helpful and always on hand when we needed them. Can't wait for my next trip there.
0.35km from Polo ItalianMy aunty had booked me into Staybridge Suites Birmingham for 3 nights using her reward points (this is allowed according to IHG reservations), my name was added under the "Additional Guest" field. I arrived late to the hotel and proceeded to check in. I was asked for the name under which the reservation was made, I confirmed my aunties name and mentioned that my name was also in the booking. He then asked me for government issued ID, I showed him my passport - This was the first time ever I have been asked for government issued ID whilst staying in hotels within the UK (being a frequent traveller, I have stayed in many hotels). He then informed me that I was NOT ALLOWED TO CHECKIN because my aunty was not with me despite my name being on the booking. He said she would have to send an email, this was around 10pm saying I be allowed to stay. I then asked to speak to the manager who confirmed that I would not be allowed to checkin under the booking despite my name being on the booking. I also asked if I could contact member services and if they stated I am allowed to checkin would that be honoured, they both implied "we are running this place and don't care". I offered for them to pre-authorise an amount for the whole stay from my credit card, I also offered to be allowed to checkin for 1 night and return in the morning to sort this out; as I was extremely shattered. He said I could only stay if I made a NEW RESERVATION. I asked him what about the cancellation of the previous booking so that the points can be returned, he said a full refund will be provided, due to COVID-19 rules are currently relaxed. However, he stated that he was unable to cancel the stay, which could only be done by IHG member services. I told them that they had made me feel extremely unwelcome, they did nothing to make things better. I made a new reservation for 1 night and checked into the room. I arrived in my room and called IHG member services whom again confirmed that I should be allowed to checkin. I told them what had happened, whom then said that the first night will be chargeable to cancel the reservation. I then asked them to contact the front desk, finally they agreed to a full refund. After which, I called the front desk again to tell them. The night-manager said that he was not bothered about me complaining. It feels like the 2 men were subcontractors who don't care about the business. They told me that they have had people book under others name and committed fraud. Does it really mean that you drop your standards if you had fraud and think every brown person is going to rob you? Nothing was sorted in the night and they asked me to speak to the morning colleagues. In the morning, I was met by an extremely nice lady who helped me in all aspects of my stay from breakfast to late checkout. As well as making the gym available to myself and arranging a meeting with the guest relations manager. The guest relations manager and her colleague at rec
0.36km from Polo ItalianLOCATION & ATTRACTIONS NEARBY *** Located very close to Birmingham New Street Station and also Birmingham Chinese Quarter (Chinese Pagoda is just in front of the hotel, on the roundabout). Very convenient location for shopping and partying, good access from the airport by car, bus, train. There are at least two parkings nearby NCP Birmingham New Street is pretty much attached to the building, but it’s quite expensive. On the other side of the roundabout, there’s NCP Gough Street Car Park (closed 20.00-06.00) and it’s only 6 GBP (cash only). Sunday street parking (where permitted) is FOC). HOTEL OVERVIEW *** Radisson Blu Hotel, Birmingham is a landmark glass building in town. Actually one of the prettiest buildings in the area. It’s located in a busy part of the city and also hotel itself may be full of business & leisure guests. Saturdays can be busy with party-goers and Sunday laaaaaazy. It's one of the tallest buildings in B’ham, but they managed very well with quick lifts. PURPOSE OF THIS TRIP *** Leisure RESERVATION *** Through Radisson.com website. Booking also visible in the mobile app. eStandby Upgrade email option was also sent (I think this is brilliant idea). I did not use it this time as I spent very limited time in my room. LENGTH OF MY STAY *** 2 nights – Aug 19 CHECK-IN *** I have arrived late late night (also having my flight delayed), so I was there approx. 1 am. I tried to arrange with the hotel in advance that they charge my card (so the booking is guaranteed), but my emails were left unanswered. Only when I called I was told, that they’ll keep it anyway even if the card was declined (around that time of the night bank usually has maintenance). Check-in was quick, but not really pleasant (I understand late night, but just a little bit more attitude and I’d say it was almost rude). Yeah, whatever. Got my key, paid in advance (as this was more convenient for me) and got to my room. LOBBY & RECEPTION *** Modern, but busy. It’s on the street level and there’s constant traffic of people around. ROOM *** I have booked as Standard 1-King-Bed non-smoking room and this is what was allocated to me - #1610. The higher floor room was allocated which was great. The view wasn’t great (parking view), but as I mentioned earlier – I did not opted for the upgrade. This was an interconnecting room, but the noise from the other room was minimal. My room was surprisingly in a very good condition (I was expecting something more dated / used) and was really comfortable. Really clean & fresh and also with good lightning. Air-condition easy to use and efficient, but pity you can not open windows (even a little bit). Bed was comfortable and also they have these fancy designer armchairs in the room. I also had the coffee/tea making kit, 2 bottles of water. Ice bucket in the room and the ice machine is in the corridor. BATHROOM *** Also modern and fresh with a small bathtub. Upgraded toiletries were great, however they
0.37km from Polo ItalianI stayed here for a week with my 8 year old daughter. I was a little wary of the hotel at first with it being a corporate chain but since I walked through the doors the staff made it feel like I was travelling from home to home. It was a lot quieter than usual especially with the current climate (Covid-19) but to me that didn't matter and the hotel itself was spotlessly clean. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the price of the car park. Every single member of staff during my stay were amazing but the names I did manage to get hold of were Sylwia, Helena, Jaspal, Gemma and Alise, I want to take them all for making my stay that little bit more special. Look forward to seeing you all again :)
0.4km from Polo ItalianWe stayed here for 2 nights, we came up for the James Blunt concert at the Arena, at it was a short walk away from the hotel. We arrived after 12 and were looked after by Luka, who was charming and very helpful and polite. He advised that our room was ready and so we could check in straight away, which was a bonus. We booked breakfast, which was ok, but nothing special, as I don't think the hotel has a restaurant. Hotel is brilliantly placed though, 5 mins walk to The Bulring etc and lots of bars and restaurants on the doorstep. There were even little bags of lavender by the lifts to take to your room to help you sleep. Overall, good hotel, with friendly helpful staff
0.41km from Polo ItalianMy boyfriend surprised me with a stay at your hotel to celebrate our anniversary and I'm so glad he did. From the moment we walked through the doors into the historic building we were treated so well. First of all we were given a free upgrade to the gorgeous L'Allier room and then enjoyed an exquisite dinner in the restaurant washed down with champagne. The quality of the food was extremely good and the service was most attentive. In the morning we were presented with the biggest breakfast I have ever had at a hotel, again with impeccable service. I cannot fault this hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. We will most definitely be back, hopefully when the Spa reopens if not before. A big thank you to everyone who made us feel so at home in your beautiful hotel.
0.42km from Polo ItalianMore suitable for business travel, the room is too ordinary, just ordinary express hotel, buffet breakfast is also very average. The hotel does not have free parking. You can park in the opposite mall, but the parking fee is about 20 pounds. It is better to set the crown next to it and also bring free parking.
I once lived in Canada on holiday inn and I feel pretty good, but really it is a lot worse. But the room is still very clean, it is enough for business trip
0.44km from Polo ItalianCame for a girls weekend, making use of the spa facilities and the restaurant for dinner in the evening. Really loved it. Service was great from all who we encountered at the hotel. Rooms are really nice. We upgraded to a superior and had two king beds in our room, very spacious. We got a really good deal - superior room, 1 spa treatment, 2 course dinner for around £150 per person with 2 sharing a superior room. Additionally we got 1 free cocktail voucher and a glass of fizz voucher. And then an additional cocktail with the 2 course meal. Brilliant! Birmingham New Street train station is a easy 15 minute walk to the hotel. Only point to note is the spa is quite small. There's no pool. It's spa treatments, a couple of saunas and a jacuzzi that about 8 can comfortably fit in. But all in all, we loved it and I would highly recommend it!
0.46km from Polo ItalianAs a regular guest of Accor Hotels throughout the UK I was surprised to be extremely disappointed with the Ibis Hotel Birmingham New Street; this was far from welcoming nor was it comfortable and I had issues relating to its COVID 19 procedures and protocols. Yes, the reception team were efficient and professional yet lacked that friendly touch, certainly were not the ‘superheroes’ or ‘The team .... prides itself on always going above and beyond’ that the hotel website portrayed the team as; I did not feel welcome, certainly not a valued customer and got the impression that I was just another guest number to process and forget. A demand for a fifty pounds room deposit came as an unwelcome surprise; not a normal practice is undertaken in my experience of Accor Hotels; why does this matter to me? The deposit can take up to twenty-eight days to be returned to a bank account which most undesirable. The location is central, not far from the New Street or Moor Street Stations, close to the main bus routes and the Digbeth Coach Station. Chinatown and the city’s gay district is on the doorstep as are the famous Bull Ring markets and the massive shopping centre; however, the exterior of the hotel and its surroundings are not the best I worried about my safety walking back the hotel on the evening of my stay. Onto the room; this was more akin to student accommodation than a three-star hotel, I have experienced far superior accommodation at an Ibis Budget or Travelodge which I would pay less for. The hotel website describes the hotel as:- ‘Inviting, modern and cosy, with a comfortable bed and a functional bathroom. The ibis room has got everything you need for a pleasant stay.’ In reality, the room was sparse, white walls and nothing much else, definitely not inviting or cosy; modern is stretching it a bit, more cold, uninviting and in need of an update. The television was mediocre, missing lots of the Free view channels, as for the website promise of satellite and cable TV not present; the Wi-Fi was very slow compared with other Accor hotels that I have stayed in (thirty minutes to download a small pdf file). The lack of bedside power was disappointing. The only chair in the room, a desk chair was extremely uncomfortable, sleep also not possible when the noisy room heater was in operation; you had no choice but to turn it off to permit sleep. The compact bathroom was nothing special and a tight squeeze. The towels resembled sandpaper rather than a pleasant fluffy experience. Make sure you have a mobile phone as the room telephones have been removed, again despite the website promise of this amenity; you are required to WhatsApp reception for any required assistance, which in my experience they ignore. My biggest concern was the hotel’s procedures and protocol relating to COVID-19, yes the hotel has made an effort to make the hotel compliant and safe; yet whilst the management has acted very well in some circumstances,
Hotels Near Polo Italian In Birmingham Review
the good: - the location is as central as you can get -reasonably priced -friendly and helpful reception staff - great breakfast buffet - late check out (12) - room had hairdryer, fan, toiletries as well as the usual stuff - nice and quiet - 2 restaurants and bar onsite which you can order 24hr room service from -fairly clean the not so good: -very dated and tired inside rooms, in desperate need of a refurbish -Bathroom could have been cleaner - breakfast buffet needed topping up more often as a lot of things ran out The main problem during our stay was room service. We ordered dinner and after waiting an hour called back to be told they'd lost our order which was pretty disappointing. We ended up ordering food via Deliveroo to the hotel reception. Other all I would give the hotel another chance and stay again when we plan another trip as the location, breakfast, late check out and quietness all make it worth it for us but probably wouldn't order room service.
I stayed there for work between 7-16 March, covering the annual All England Badminton championship. I received the most superb service from every staff at the hotel, from reception to the restaurant to cleaning, they were simply amazing. I have lived as a foreigner in the UK for the past 15 years, but the hotel hospitality surpasses any that I have stayed. One particular reason why I was so impressed was the fact these hotel staff did not treat any of us Asian (Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc) guests any differently, at a time when Coronavirus is causing racism everywhere. Back home in Japan, I believe a hotel there started to create a "Japanese only" floor in order to keep foreigners away to minimise the risk of contracting the virus, and caused a big uproar. I was wondering if it was a burden on the hotel staff, but no, none of the staffers showed any such prejudice against me who looks blatantly Asian (North Asian, that is) and also, the level of service was superb. Every query and requests were dealt with promptly and in the most friendly/warm manner. I would recommend Jurys Inn Birmingham to any future traveller without any hesitation. Thank you for making this stay such a pleasant experience for us.
What saved this visit was the breakfast. Excellent egg station and great variety. Bar is OK, and food in the restaurant is passable. Rooms are average and the location is brilliant. Nothing exciting about this hotel, just a good solid Hilton. Not sure what I was told is an upgrade was actually one. Still - for a short business trip this is perfect. If are are torn between the Hampton up the road on Broad Streed and this one - the Garden Inn wins hands down.
More suitable for business travel, the room is too ordinary, just ordinary express hotel, buffet breakfast is also very average.
Had a brilliant afternoon with my bestie at the Arden hotel - wowcher deal for afternoon tea/leisure. Welcoming smile on reception and helpful direction to restaurant. We were early but got seated right away for afternoon tea by lovely waitresses who couldn’t do enough for us (at 1pm on 6th March so thanks to those on duty that day). So refreshing to have attentive staff genuinely happy in their work and so friendly. Afternoon tea absolutely delicious and plentiful and waitress offered to box up what we didn’t eat so we could take it home. Same happy helpful service at the leisure club reception and we enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna for a few hours. So relaxing and great value for money. Would definitely go again!
Just back from a 2 night stay, we have been visiting this hotels for the last 10 years. It has special memories for us. We were anxious about the stay as we did not know what to expect under the certain circumstances. We were pleasantly surprised, we arrived to be greeted by friendly and professional staff who are always helpful, with special thanks to Sharan. The room was spotless , carpets and bedding immaculate. We ate in the restaurant, again service great, friendly and polite, very clean. Cannot fault ths stay at all and have rebooked . Thanks to all the hardworking and dedicated staff who have gone above and beyond to adapt to the ever changing restrictions. Well done to you all Best Wishes Kathryn
