The St Paul was perfect for my stay in Verdun, I was here to tour the battlefields and cemeteries from WW1. The St Paul was a cheap place to stay, conveniently located, safe, my room was clean and the breakfast provided was a great start for my day. I’ve been backpacking the world for 40 years it met all my needs. The staff was helpful, very friendly and super patient with my butchering of the French language. An added treat was “Tor” the resident dog. Being on the road for several weeks and away from my dog, it was nice to have an dog to love on. Hey if you want something with more amenities you can find it. All I need is a place to lay my head, a clean bathroom and shower and I’m good to go. I don’t spend much time in a room anyway. I’ll be back in Verdun and I’d stay there again. Relax and enjoy the vibe!

I've read the reviews and I guess I fall somewhere in between. The room was small and sparse but if you need a place to lay your head and your aren't looking for much this place is adequate. The receptionist was pleasant but didn't speak any English. The bed was small and there was nothing in the room but the bed and a particle board wardrobe. No night stands no extra pillows no coffee etc etc. The shower was tiny any the field small. But the fixtures looked newer and the room was clean Forget breakfast, even if only 9 Euros. There was bread and Yoplait yogurt, a couple of packages of jam, pre-packaged sliced Swiss cheese and a couple slices of salami. Kellogg's cereal rounded pour the menu. But you have to pay when you check in so we didn't know. I wouldn't go back but it was vastly improved from previous reviews.

Good value for a low price. Just enough to spend a confortable night (the bed are of good quality and very clean). The staff is friendly and polite. There is a moldy and cold tobacco ambiant smell in the hallways but it's overall clean. On friday night we had beating sounds from the club next door so use some earplugs if you have sleep troubles. I don't recommand to take a breakfast, the coffee is awful. As for the croissants and bread: chemical taste and were way too dry.

I always like to start with something positive, and there are good points about this hotel. The location is pleasant, in a business park on the far outskirts of Verdun. But the place is quiet and quite rural. There are two chain restaurants within sn easy walk. Free parking on site and easy access. Everything inside seems clean and functional. But function is where things start to fall apart. You can book breakfast the night before, but not decide to book it on the day. Fair enough. Unfortunately, the breakfast area is the only place in the entire hotel with any seating. So if you go not book breakfast, there is nowhere to sit and lounge. And the seating area is blocked off from about 8pm onwards. So the planters outside the front door are the closest this hotel gets to a "lounge". Ets turn attention to the rooms. At first, they look OK. Typical budget hotel, but perfectly adequate. However, you soon realize you are actually living in a huge bathroom. The wash basin is right in the room, near the bed. You want a shower? Just walk I to the cubicle that is skso right inside the room - even nearer to the bed. It becomes impossible to do things like shave or wash without massively interrupting your partner. The room seems to have been purposely designed to remove any kind of privacy or consideration for those who will use it. So sadly, this will be my first - AND LAST - Ibis Budget.

To get the bad bits out of the way first: The rooms are at best functional, and to be frank, small and not very comfortable If you were taking pot luck and took a look at the set menu pinned to the wall outside ( as I did) you would be expecting a very dour experience. Why they don't put the full menu on the wall is beyond me because for a hotel of this quality it is stunning. There I was expecting to wade through a prawn cocktail and the house burger or whatever it was pinned to the wall. But then the wonderful friendly manageress (and I'm sorry but I forgot to ask her name but she's amazing) proffered the menu du jour with a choice of snails on a bed of vegetables and gazpacho (which my wife adored) and lamb's brains for the starter. It is a very daring chef who puts brains on a set menu in my view but they gave me plenty of "food for thought" so to speak, because they were brilliant. Follow that with a delicious slice of slow roast pork in my case and chicken with foie gras stuffing for my wife and a decently priced bottle of Cotes du Rhone and I was already very happy. When the manageress then told me that instead of paying the full price for the meal because we had gone off our pre-booked demi pension package, she would just add on the difference (which turned out to be about 30 Euros including the wine) I could not have been more impressed. What we were expecting was an adequate place to stay while we visited the Verdun battlefield (and it is very close to where you need to go) - what we got was a stunning gastronomic experience. Just sort the rooms out guys and you would get 5 stars for me. Thank you

This restaurant is really close to the place where the battle of Verdun started. The place has been recommanded to us by the manager of the Tranchée de Chattancourt. Very nice welcome and dinner. Yet, it's better to book in advance on weekdays.

Stayed here on a recommend from another and I was not disappointed. Comfortable rooms, all different with the amenities we like. No kettle though. (I always travel with one) three guys on motorcycles taking it easy and visiting a few of the sites around Verdun. We slept, had breakfast and an evening meal here as well as plenty of beer! We visited Verdun town one evening for food and frolics but were unable to get a taxi to collect us from the hotel. In stepped the patron to save the day and drove us to town, adding that we were to call the hotel at the end of the evening if we were unable to get a taxi back. The evening spent along the Verdun waterfront was underwhelming and it took a local bar owner calls to 4 taxi's before finding one who was willing to run us back to the hotel. Anyway I digress, nice hotel, nice staff, nice food good time was had by all. Yes I will visit again. Please do not visit if you are fussy or finicky, always comparing places with one another, are not willing to try to speak the lingo. if you want to run your finger around looking for dust go stay somewhere else. if you want room service or instant attention go stay somewhere else. Please leave these quirky laid back places for me and my kind.
