We found this place on hotels.com and let me tell you, there is barely any lodging available in the south side of Big Island! We didn't have many options so we went ahead and booked this place. DO NOT STAY HERE: 1. The address was wrong. Weirdly, the owner somehow saw us arriving and started following us as we drove in circles trying to find the place. Not sure how she knew it was us since we didn't give an ETA or what kind of car we'd be in. Suddenly, we heard honking behind us as this silver civic started tailgating us. We were wondering *** their problem was, so we pulled over to the side to let them pass, and she pulled up along us asking if we're looking for cottages. Turns out she was the owner and told us to follow her. Felt like we were bound for a horror movie slaughtering. 2. Should have known when we pulled up, she said it was ready for us since 10am that day, but there was still a van parked out front and people blowing leaves in the front. She said that she texted me the new address, but I never received anything from her. She said that the address on the GPS was her old office or something. I felt like something important like an address would be beneficial in receiving so not sure why she did not just call or email me if she did not hear back from me in the text message. She gave us a tour of the place and left. There were still clothes or something running in the washing machine, so we felt a little uneasy knowing someone will be coming in to grab it and we left our luggage in the place. The cottage itself was HUGE - like, 3 bedrooms with a total of 10 beds or so! There were only 2 of us, so it kind of spooked us being in such an old place. 3. Here's where it gets bad...there were ROACHES AND TERMITES in the house!!! I get it, we're in Hawaii and it's bound to happen, but the bathroom had CLUSTERS of them on the floor and tiny ones flying around in the bathroom! We found dead roaches hidden behind furniture in the living room too. Even laying in bed on our phones, we would see something little fly by. If we wanted to deal with bugs, we would have just saved our $100+ and went camping for free!! 4. Speaking of bathroom, there was NO HOT WATER! We could barely shower because the cold water was so unbearable so late in the night. When I had contacted hotels.com, the rep reached out to the owner and her excuse was that we're in Hawaii and there are bounds to be bugs, and that sometimes people leave food out which attracts the termites. I thought they were attracted to wood? Also, if the house was CLEANED, why would they have enough time to be attracted to such food and/or why would it be in the bathroom -_- As for the cold water, she blames us for not calling her to complain. First of all, it was late in the night, second of all we were already butt naked freezing cold in water. Did she want us to call her (which we did but nobody picked up!!) and what, move us to a whole new cottage?? Sounds to be a bigger inconvenience. In the

Oh my Kelly ...thank you so much for the visit, welcoming atmosphere and both the history and future plans for the Big Island Bed and Breakfast. It was a pleasure meeting you, your family and friends and to see all the improvements to the the amenities and property/land with the Mac trees, etc. Your home, the units were well appointed, super clean and comfortable. The breakfast was so relaxing to sip great coffee, get a Mac.nut lesson and feel the breeze. The lava show was a bonus and we appreciated the information which, although we didn't have incredibly firm plans, we took all your recommendations and took off exploring. We wouldn't have had those experiences without your local knowledge and sharing. If/When we're back to Hawaii we're sure to book again and stay longer!

A very cozy little homestay with three rooms. The sisters take care of everything together. They renovated all the rooms after they took over here last year. All the facilities are brand new and the rooms are very spacious. As the flight was delayed for 4 hours, it was already more than 8 o'clock in the evening to the hotel. They also called Ctrip to remind us that the front desk would leave work at 6 o'clock, and attached a detailed self-check-in guide. Follow the instructions and everything goes well. Stayed for two nights. Fresh juice, banana cakes, fruit bowls and homemade puddings were available in the refrigerator. Yogurt and coconut cakes were provided for breakfast the next day. Each room was equipped with a microwave, drip coffee machine and hot water bottle. The banana cake is a big piece, and I only finished breakfast in two days. So there is no chance to taste the coconut cake at all, a pity. Because it is newly decorated, the bed is equipped with a power socket, and there are two USB ports, voltage and converter problems are all solved. This is the third time we have come to the Big Island. We have already experienced at least six hotels and homestays of all levels. This is really rare in the local area. The only downside is that the soundproofing is really not good. The uncle next door is snoring like thunder. So earplugs at the head of the room can be considered a solution.

The hotel has no walls or wooden boards, it is just surrounded by anti-mosquito sand nets, and there are curtains around the bed. It's still a bit cold in January. The shower is outdoors, with a curtain, and it's a bit cold, so it's not convenient. The air in the forest is good and the chirping of insects is pleasant. Breakfast is very simple, bread, boiled eggs, and some fruit. I don’t like it a bit but I don’t feel full. The novelty is quite good, a bit like camping. Don't come with children, they are scared, and people here go to bed early and require quietness. The kids were bored and had to be quiet.

It is recommended to live near the Volcano Park. This hotel is 5 minutes away from the Volcano Park, which is very convenient. The Volcano Park is too big, it takes at least two days to visit, so we choose to live in this hotel nearby and can visit the Volcano Park carefully. In addition, the hotel has a century-old restaurant, which is not bad, but the price is too expensive.

Here's my review: Stayed recently over the Easter weekend (4 nights) Bottom line: A great place to stay as a base for exploring the Natl. Volcanic Park for solo or couples - which is 5 min away.....This is more of a hostel type experience in an older house with shared bathrooms but a great economical stay. You may see some others registered guests sharing the kitchen and Frig etc. I stayed in room 311 (the upper part of 3 levels). Anyway room was good - adequate for the stay in the upper Rain Forest (4000 ft) Constructive Feed Back - Suggestions for Mgmt. : (property co) #1) Front Door Lock - worked poorly and hard to manage (get to work) - either re-key or put some graphite in there #2) Better trash pickup - piled up after awhile #3) Paper towels would be nice for kitchen area Pro: Super close to VNP main entrance + 5 min drive to Volcano General stores (2) Tips: Very good Wood fired pizzas (Ohelo Cafe) - although sticklers for COVID protocols (as most places this is over - but to each of their own)- a very good place with good food - close 7pm (I also like the general store next door - I went every morning for Kona Coffee - very good $2). Suggested trails in VNP : (most do) : Kilauea IkI Crater trail : 4 miles round trip - do as a loop (park in lot 2nd lot) : Chain of Craters Round - From rain forest to Sea Level - Sea Arch (suggestion - continue on another 1/4 mile from Sea Arch and visit Coconut Grove planted in the 1960s - I thought cool... :NIght viewing of lava - (do 9 - 11 pm) - 1 mile each way + suggestion ; bring a pair of binoculars -makes a huge diff in viewing night lave lake

We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast. It is minutes away from the Volcano National Park and not far from other attractions like Hilo or Papakolea Green Sand Beach. My husband and I stayed in the Ohia Ranch room. The location was quiet and private with lots of animals (goats, sheep, donkey, ducks, hens, etc.). It was fun to sit out on the balcony and watch the animals (or go down and pet them). The king bed was very comfortable and had a heated blanket on it as an option. There are lots of windows for great sunshine. Every morning, Theresa would bring a delicious breakfast to the room per your request/order. There is a table/chairs in the room to eat; plus the balcony has a small table. The breakfast omelets were incredible. Theresa also has many extras in the room like beach towels, robes, slippers, picnic basket, heating rack for towels and drinks. The information book had lots of ideas of where to go along with restaurant suggestions. We found all of them incredible. She also sent detailed instructions to get there. Overall, Theresa was a warm and wonderful host who helped us with any questions and offered great suggestions.

The hotel has a good environment and a tropical Hawaiian style. In 2018, I lived in this house with my husband when I came to the Big Island. I had a good impression. We booked the same one-bedroom villa at the time, and we found two bedrooms when we checked in (not told that it was free upgrade, and there was no need to upgrade to two rooms for two people). So this time I visited the Big Island with my friends and husband and wife, and I booked a bedroom villa. I found that there was a bedroom. My friend and wife could live in the sofa bed in the hall. Knowing this, we chose to live in hilo, the price is cheap, go to the black beach, green beach, Maokena Observatory, the volcanic park will be close, and the time can be saved a lot. There is a shopping center, near the hotel. The location is very good and the sunset is particularly good. Many restaurants inside can choose, one of them sunset restsurant has a good environment, the sunset location is excellent, but the dishes are very general

At night, the arrival time is particularly dark, and the room is a little scary. The next day, I came together to discover that the environment is super beautiful. Two bedrooms, one living room, kitchen and dining room, traditional American style. The kitchen is fully equipped, except for the rice cooker and the kettle. But it is enough! After living for three days, I can cook myself very happy every day! Looking out the window is a green oil, there is a turkey in the morning to visit, feed them bread every day, and have breakfast with us. The only thing is to live on the first floor. There are ants in the gap between the wooden frames in the bathroom. The bathtub must not be soaked. It can only be showered, and the shower water is slightly smaller. But the overall environment is not bad, the price is very high, it is more convenient than the hotel in Hilton and the room is bigger, more free than the hotel, and there is no need to clean up the house for the owner. Suitable for the whole family to play together.

We had anticipated this trip for a few years, which we postponed twice due to COVID. Our trip to Kohala Suites and the Big Island was EXCELLENT. Everyone at the HGVC was friendly and helpful. The grounds are amazing and beautiful. I am planning a return trip because 7 days wasn't enough time. We could have stayed much longer. The Island and people are spectacular and the resort was a great place to stay when we needed to rest and have some down time. I highly recommend this Kohala Suites and the Hilton properties in the area. The shuttle bus to to the Lagoon at the large Hilton Hotel was convenient and I just cannot say enough about the positive experience our whole family and our guests enjoyed.

I was surprised at how big the resort hotel was. There was a tram, but no boats. The service to make inquiries in Japanese ended in March. The shuttle bus to the nearby shopping mall was $5 one way, so I walked there (just over 20 minutes). The room was spacious, but the water flow in the bathtub was not so good. From the room, you could see the golf course and the sea. The grounds are large, so I got up early in the morning and took a walk, which felt great. The best spots to see the sunset were written on the map of the grounds, so I was able to see a really beautiful sunset. There were sea turtles and dolphins, and a fun pool, so I had a wonderful time.

A typical American hotel, a 5 minute walk from the beach. Not the kind of hotel with its own beach, but with its own small outdoor swimming pool. Very close to the business district, near various shops, walking on the beach feels very good. The air-conditioning in the room is relatively old-fashioned and the sound is slightly louder, and it takes a while to fall asleep.

Hilton brand used to be my hotel of choice. After some very disappointing stays toward the end of Covid I decided I was switching to anything but Hilton. I should have stuck with my commitment. As the previous poster said our room ($350) was very small. The corridors were old and dingy. When I walked into the room I went to look out the window and there was a view of a rooftop, a large dumpster of trash and a delapidated building with graffiti. In fact there are several abandoned buildings surrounding the property so the area isn’t great. They still don’t have daily housekeeping. I have been in Hawaii for 10-days now and my other hotels all had daily cleaning and it was excellent. There is no excuse for Hilton to not being this service back. That is a key reason people like to stay at hotels vs VRBOs. Hilton is putting the savings in their own pocket as their rates haven’t been adjust to reflect the significant reduction in service. Luckily we are only staying one night. The checkin was nice and the agent was friendly. The grounds (toward the water) were nice. I also agree with the other poster as I question why a resort fee at this property. If you get an ocean view room and don’t mind the lack of maid service then you should be ok. Definitely don’t stay in the odd numbered rooms in the ancillary building or you will view the ghetto.

My wife and I needed a clean comfortable place to stay in Waimea and Waimea Country Lodge delivered beyond our expectations. Pay no attention to older reviews. This is a place completely transformed. The owners delivered an impeccably clean environment. The remodeled rooms show as brand new in every respect from floors to plumbing fixtures to beautiful countertops and a spacious feel. Wonderful high ceilings, kitchenette including silver and plate wear, beautiful HOT shower, comfortable beds, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, flat screen, etc. all made our stay as pleasant as it could be. Has the outside feel of an old style country motel, but the rooms are fully designed to accommodate modern expectations. Staff was incredibly friendly. Had a non-refundable reservation and called last minute to switch our arrival date and they could not have been more polite or accommodating. Nicely located in the heart of Waimea, this lodge is a hidden gem for people touring the island and needing a clean beautifully-appointed room at a very reasonable price. We are seasoned travelers with multiple stays on the Big Island. Thanks for becoming our go-to lodging choice for future stays in Waimea.

It was nice that there was no parking fee and I really liked the spacious size and washing machine and kitchen like my home. However, even though three air conditioners were installed, they did not work and had to be held by a ceiling fan. Staff are not very friendly. And every three nights, depositing every morning, my credit card made a hundred and hundreds of dollars, which made me nervous and I'm still waiting for the amount to be canceled. All other resorts that have checked in later than this property have also been canceled, and the Kona Coast Resort is anxious for guests staying here. I was nervous to stay here given the reviews and with the current construction I wouldn't have been happy to pay full price (not because of noise/dust, but because the restaurants/spa/bars/etc. are not all up and running!) but I got a nice 30% off deal through the Outrigger website and was happy with what we paid. I chose the oceanfront room knowing I'd get a good view (too many oceanview hotels only offer a glimpse of the water) but never imagined the incredible surprise we got - our room faced directly out to where the lights shine for the manta rays each night so it was like we had our our private manta observation deck! It was unreal! The room was comfy, clean and spacious; the staff were super friendly and helped quickly when our balcony was flooded after a storm, and we loved the morning yoga, mac nut lattes at holoholo market, and the easy self parking (it's really not a long walk). The beach pool was closed for renos but we enjoyed the courtyard pool very much, and the grounds were stunning to walk around in the morning an evening - keep a lookout for goats on the rocks! We were also able to walk to and from Keauhou Bay marina for our night snorkle with the mantas which was super convenient. KTA superstore and L&L BBQ are just down the road for quick eats and the location was perfect for visiting K'au, Kona coffee farms and to get to the airport. Can't wait to stay again when the renovations are complete!

PROS: - The property - The views at the property - The live music CONS: - Everything else. We so wanted to love Moana! But even as a (too) forgiving individual, the restaurant was just…. bad. Service was painfully slow, wrong dishes were delivered, flavors were interesting enough (i.e. scallops with a unique bbq-type aftertaste) but *nowhere* near the level that warrants the prices. The couple behind us were complaining loudly when we arrived about the experience being “totally unacceptable.” We chalked that up to their being bratty & privileged, but in the end, they weren’t wrong. The servers were all very nice and lovely — it’s not their fault. This is more a Rosewood issue. Even aspects like the restroom — towels on the floor, a sink not draining, etc. Very surprising. Dinner at the down-to-earth Jackie Hey’s (sp.?) in Kona was approximately 17,000x more impressive, across the board. Also surprising. Vaguely chaotic exit too with the valet, who seemed like he was being run ragged. Moana is still finding its footing. It’s got a long way to go.

The hotel is so beautiful, there is a large internal area, you need to drive from the iron gate for ten minutes, along the beautiful road, there are small wild boars on the road, next to the waterfall, there is a waterfall behind the hotel room, only for internal residents , You can swim and boat in the pond under the waterfall, and you can also participate in their rich activities such as climbing from the waterfall or visiting their farm. Breakfast is delicious. We did not have the opportunity to have dinner. It is said that it is their chef’s no-menu dinner. They use fresh ingredients from their own farm, which is a little regrettable. I highly recommend it. I will stay a few more days next time.
