We chose this hotel, as it was located on the south side of town, which is what we wanted for our adventure the next day. This appears to be an old holiday inn branded hotel. The gentleman who checked us in was quick and to the point. The room was comfy and the hotel was nice & quiet. Breakfast was grab and go for covid. It consisted of a granola bar, cereal bar, and a cup of applesauce. Juice & coffee were also available. This hotel has a nice balcony off of the breakfast area, that overlooks a lot of the town. Michelle checked us out in a very friendly manner. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

They were doing constructing on the front of the building but it didn't interfere with our stay at all. Not even very noisy. We were only disappointed worth the grab and go breakfast. In our little bags were a breakfast burrito, cereal bar, and a small Muffin. And we wernt the only guests that were disappointed. Understanding the short staffing, I would have been happier with the choice of those items, actual cereal, boxed milk, yogurt, individual wrapped doughnuts, pastries, or even pop tarts. Instead that food is wasted because we wouldn't have picked it if it wernt in our little grab & go bag. I would have rather been took there was no breakfast offered and brought somthing. I would deffinatly stay here again because breakfast isn't a deal breaker. The staff is very nice and it's a very clean hotel. I would recommend.

|3.97km from city centerWe pulled in during a snowy time. The parking lot had not yet been cleared but the main entry area was clean and accessible. Our room was clean and comfortable. I am not sure if there was a problem or what but parts of the hotel looked like it was under renovation and other parts did not appear to be that way. Anyway our room was comfortable and roomy. Breakfast at the restaurant was good, service was slow but the eggs were good. By morning though the parking lot was cleared and easy to get around in.

|6.85km from city centerWe use Marriott hotels whenever possible while traveling. The Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rapid City is a great place to stop for the night. We had a room with a king bed and two TV’s, a sofa sleeper and desk area. The room had a microwave, small refrigerator and coffee maker. The bathroom was large and sparkling clean. We always appreciate the rubber bathmats when provided. The pillows in all the Marriott hotels we have stayed in recently desperately need to be replaced. A good breakfast with hot and cold items is provided from 6:30-9 am each morning. Check-in was quick and easy and the people at the desk were very friendly and helpful. There is a large seating area in front of the hotel with a fire pit. The parking lot is large and handicapped spots are right up front. There are lots of restaurants and fast-food places nearby. The water was too soft, and we felt slimy after showering or washing our hands like we couldn’t get the soap off. We did have one major problem. We were on the third floor and the wind that night was howling around the building and as it turned out, we discovered that the window in our room was broken and wouldn’t close properly, so the noise was intensified, and we didn’t get much sleep if any that night. After driving all day and seeing lots of different sites, we had hoped for a good night’s sleep. Ask for a lower floor room.

|3.73km from city centerThe biggest pain point, literally, were the mattresses. They were crappier than what we bought for the kids. So cheapo! Our mattress at home is easily double the thickness. Every morning both of us woke up with back pain and everyone commented about how they didn't sleep well. Stayed 4 nights had identical breakfast 3 of the 4 days. The only difference on the 4th day is that they swapped out the veggie/southwest omelet for a cheese omelet. While it was better than many other chains' breakfast we have had, we were getting tired of it by about day 3. Had kids 11, 9, and barely 5 year old with us. Pool was great for the youngest kid and held the attention of the others for about an hour the 2 times we went. The pool was a little shallow for the older 2 after the fun of having water randomly dumped on them from the buckets up high wore off. All in all, the pool is fantastic for kids under 8 or so. All staff we encountered were friendly. And the facility was clean. They lacked swim towels the first time we went swimming so people brought their room towels. We just dripped all the way back to our room. That is probably part of the reason the flooring in the elevator is in such bad condition. There is road construction on Lacrosse so it is only 1 lane in each direction. So we sat through 4 stop light cycles trying to turn left before giving up and making the GPS reroute us to go get food. I don't know if a movie had just let out or if the mall had just closed for the night or what the deal was. A cool part was that they had a water bottle filler water fountain and mini-fridge in room. Handy bonuses for our road trips while this hotel was our home base to explore: Devils Tower, Wall Drug, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Black Hills, dinosaur park (though the building is closed for construction we still drove up to see the views), Ellsworth Air Force Base (like straight east of our room) outdoors airplane collection, and the Minuteman Missile silo. Also there is a mall just on the other side of the highway with every food and shopping option anyone could want. Was a bit confused by the housekeeping. One day we came back and the bed looked to have been made by an amateur --- loosely tucked lumps all over the comforter. Okay. No big deal. The next day it was sharply made and the toilet paper folded in typical hotel style.

|6.02km from city centerMy husband and I was in the area for military procedures, booked at last minute for a great price. Although we booked a king and ended up with 2 Queens instead, we each got to sleep in our own bed and didn't have to worry about the other hogging the bed. Hahaha
Very nice place. Entered the room and no odd smells, big spacious suite, seemed clean. The sheets were super soft and the bed fairly comfy. The halls were extremely clean. Lots of sanitizer everywhere if you desired. Very friendly and kind staff. Place looked pretty new. We didnt try the TV, internet, or pool while there so we can't comment on that. Very cute kitchenett in the room. Dish washer, big fridge w/freezer, full size microwave, built in burners, full size coffee pot. Very minimal plates, utensils, cups... one pot. But I think if you would ask the front desk I bet as nice as they were they could rustle up what ever you needed. (Probably some dish soap would be nice to have in the room as we weren't going to run the big dish washer for 2 littke coffee cups. Not sure how they get cleaned after use?) You could live there pretty comfortably. We could anyways.
Nit picky stuff.... there was a shelf under the TV I guess were a vcr/DVD player would go.. lots of people been writing in the dust there. Floor may not have been vacuumed cause there was little like..sock lint around and someones sweatshirt tag between the 2 beds... (gilian xl..lol) the dust ruffle was tucked into part of the sheets. Didn't really bother us but I could see some folks getting bent out of shape over it. All the comforts of home..dust included...least thats how we looked at it. Hahaha
The breakfast...........im assuming that because there's a kitchen in your room, is the reason for a minimal spread? But for us, we walked away full.
Thats pretty much it... I didn't get pictures, sorry...
We would definitely stay there again. Next time longer then just a night tho...

|3.65km from city centerAlthough it was a sad reason for traveling, my Grandfather's funeral, it was a pleasant stay. I loved the note on the bed. My Grandfather was a retired pastor and the note made me feel like he was there with us. I also loved the nifty painting of the states on the wall. The beds were super comfy and a welcomed relief from the long trip. The room and bathroom were nice and clean. I don't drink coffee but there was even a little sitting area with coffee for those of you who drink it. The staff was pleasant so all and all a good stay.

|0.99km from city centerFour stars for the room and the hotel in general. We had the King plus Sofa Sleeper room. It was huge - separated into two rooms, with one set up as a living room. The bed was soft and firm at the same time with a selection of pillows. Keurig station with coffee and tea. Mini fridge and a microwave. I wish we had more time here so that we could really take advantage of the space. Unfortunately, I chose this hotel based on the availability of the airport shuttle. Delta changed from morning to nighttime arrivals so we left a day early and added a night at this hotel so we could get a shuttle ride upon arrival and back the next day to pick up our rental car. Holiday Inn fell short as far as providing shuttle service, but the biggest problem was the conflicting information I got. I generously did not let this affect my four star rating for the hotel, despite the stress this caused me. The airlines changed the flight schedule to a later arrival - 10:50 pm. Seeing that the shuttle hours are posted as ending at 11pm, I contacted the hotel to ask if they were accommodating this new flight time. This was to be the new “normal” arrival time for this Delta flight. I called several times; I got a different answer each time. I emailed; I was told that they had several guests on that flight and could pick us up, no problem. The day of the flight we were notified of another change…arriving an hour later. I called to ask if could still get a ride at that time and was told, “Just call when you arrive.” I emailed about the updated arrival time and received the reply, “Noted.” I called upon arrival and the front desk person said we cannot be picked up as the shuttle stops at 11pm. Now it is late, I’m with a tired kid, there are no taxis or car hire services, and the hotel cannot provide transportation. Fortunately Rapid Shuttle stays open in the airport until the last flight has arrived and people have been serviced. So I shelled out the money to pay for a shuttle. While I was thrilled to have a ride, I would’ve just stayed at a cheaper hotel without shuttle service if I had know how this was going to play out. So no matter what they tell you, you will not get a ride after 11pm, even if your flight or your baggage is late. We set up a shuttle return the following morning to rent a car from the airport and had some hiccups on that end as well. The shuttle departs once an hour on the half hour (7:30, 8:30, etc). Although we were “scheduled” for 10:30, the shuttle didn’t come until 10:45. Not a big deal since we weren’t catching a flight, but you should be aware this is not a strict schedule.

|2.81km from city centerStaff was nowhere to be found during our entire 4 night stay. The front desk was almost always unstaffed and the food and coffee wasn't replenished in the breakfast room. Another guest and I had to actually make more coffee one morning because both containers were empty and no one could be found that worked there. Our initial room was dirty and the second one we were moved to had the tile and light fixture falling down from the ceiling which was not repaired during our stay due to staff shortage. Our room was only cleaned once even though we asked that it be cleaned daily. Again due to staff shortages. While the location was good, there are too many other hotel choices to settle for this Super 8. If we hadn't prepaid, we would have left as soon as we went into the first room that hadn't been cleaned. Our experience didn't improve.

|6.52km from city centerAs I read and utilize a lot of reviews thought it was appropriate for others to know....there is a sign outside the hotel indicating no smoking within 25 feet of the building however the front desk employees were both smoking near the front entrance on multiple occasions , the rooms have a stove top and full refrigerator however no utensils or pans of any type to utilize (are you supposed to bring your own?), I made a reservation 45+ days in advance and agreed upon a rate that was considerably higher than ”normal” but considering holiday weekend and summer traffic was ok with the price however arrived to a 1/2 capacity hotel and looking online at arrival could have paid a 20%+ lower rate (my fault for not looking prior to arrival and xcl/rebooking accordingly) - disappointed guests do not receive ”current” rates on day of check-in if beneficial, the room assigned was on the freeway side resulting in a decent amount of road noise throughout the evening and finally breakfast is not included. Overall the room was functional, however will not stay at this property again.

The landing space instead of drawers is good too, since I think many people don’t unpack their suitcase for a short stay. Bed was fine. The bad stuff- no coffee maker or microwave in room although there is free coffee in lobby. I’m sure this saves Hilton big $. If you can’t heat up something g in your room, there should be a restaurant/diner.Tneres a fridge in the room, so if you could bring your coffee in a can for the morning. Shades did not make room dark enough. Machinery on the roof caused my room to rumble. Or was an airplane landing on the roof? Not a good sleep.

The lobby was clean with mask protocols clearly posted. (the need for masks was stated when I called for a reservation.) . we were greeted upon arrival. Our room was clean and quiet. Coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator were clean and appreciated. The bath was clean. I would stay there again. Mid-week, winter season room prices were very reasonable.

|0.18km from city centerTL:DR: Don't bother with the ”Presidential” level. BW & I stayed here for two nights while touring around the Black Hills. While pleasant enough, we would not return. To be clear, this review is of the ”Presidential” (”upscale” extra-charge) area of the hotel. I booked this, thinking it would be something special for part of a second (54th?) honeymoon. In some ways, it was perfectly acceptable. Quiet, top-floor room accessible only by key card. Mural graphics of local attractions as wallpaper. Designer chair and ottoman. A really good bed. So, not terrible. But it fell WAY short of extraordinary accommodation for extraordinary price. For example, despite being an ”exclusive” area of the hotel, there was no routinely-expected ”Presidential” lounge available to the guests who pony up. Towels were exchanged in the bath, but the bed was intentionally not made. This so-called limited service was stressed, along with the repeated ”Breakfast is for PURCHASE!” admonishment at check-in. In the bath, the provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were in cheap dispensers, hard to use, and the body wash simply refused to come out. The freezer in the in-room refrigerator was so encrusted with ice that we couldn't get an ice cream bar into it. The in-room coffee maker dispensed the cheapest ”something” that was mostly undrinkable. Power outlets were inadequate to charging today's routinely carried electronics. The ”desk” (a long, narrow bar along one wall) was plainly designed for form over function. Only two dresser drawers; we had to keep most of our clothes in our luggage. And only two small (think old European hotel) elevators to serve nine floors of a tour bus hotel. Imagine the crush in the morning when everyone is trying to get downstairs to the bus. Net, not terrible. But not worth a return trip unless you are on an inexpensive cattle car tour of the Black HIlls in one of the cheaper lower floor rooms.

However, we booked the room through an online site and the price was very affordable. As we were checking in, the desk agent asked if we would like to extend our stay for a second night. Knowing that we were planning to stay for another day, we said yes. I asked if the room would be the same (meaning price). The desk agent replied with “it will be the same room as you booked for tonight”. I should have asked more questions. The second night price was more than double the first night. I take full responsibility for not asking the right questions or I would give them only a one star rating for deceitful business practice. Book with caution!

|3.43km from city centerWe stayed for 2 nights in a queen room on the 2nd floor. It was smaller than an average hotel room, but big enough for us and our 2 pups. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was quiet and we did not hear any noises from other hotel guests and their dogs. There are 2 grassy dog areas.(one is actually part of another hotel) Our room was located at the end of the hall near the stair well. That was great. However, once you go out the side door, it locked and would not unlock with a room key, even during the day. This was a bit frustrating as we then had to walk all the way around to the lobby in order to get back into the hotel. They have an indoor pool and a jacuzzi, but the jacuzzi had no water in it. The free breakfast is very basic. If you're a hearty breakfast person, this will not fit the bill! The attendant was helpful, but she just wasn't very pleasant. A few individuals walked into the dining area without shoes and she was very rude when she told them they had to be wearing shoes. I understand enforcing the rules, but she did not have to be so nasty about it! She gave the impression that she wasn't happy to be there. Extended hours for breakfast on the weekends would have been appreciated. 9:30am end time on the weekend is a tad bit early in my opinion. The evening clerk who checked us in was pleasant. Other than him, the rest of the front desk clerks were emotionless! Not rude, but definitely gave the impression they would rather not be there! Same thing with the room attendants. They really need to consider moving the smoking area away from the front entrance! It's no joy having to walk through that obnoxious smoke cloud! I guess it's there so that the employees who do smoke can be in view of the front desk when they go out for a smoke.
