|0.41km from city centerThis backpackers really made our winter stay in Queenstown very memorable. We stayed in one of the second-storey family rooms with fantastic views of the Remarkables. The room was always warm with comfy beds, plenty of storage space and a fridge. A few things stood out for us: very helpful and friendly staff (nothing was ever a problem), very clean bathrooms, clean kitchen with plenty of cutlery and crockery, free meal on Wednesday night, free bike hire (quality bikes!), spa and within walking distance to all major attractions in the town. I'd highly recommend this backpackers!

|0.54km from city centerWe stayed here for 5 nights, 2 adults and 2 kids. There are definite pro's and con's here. Positives: Location is near perfect. 5 minute walk into town, slightly longer on way back going up the hill, but going via the playground made it easier with the kids. Easy to get to the airport and supermarkets if you have a car. Beds were very comfortable. The unit is spacious and well laid out, pretty much all amenities are covered for self catering. Designated parking space a big plus. Negatives: The unit needed a good clean. There were numerous cobwebs on the ceiling beams that had clearly been there a while. The extractor fan and light over the oven didn't work. Its quite dark inside, and one of the lights over the dining table was hanging out of the ceiling. Not all that private, as soon as you open your curtains to let natural light in, other units can see inside. Outside area for our unit was cramped and furniture needed a clean. Overall, not bad for a last minute booking, but would be better with a bit of TLC.

|0.92km from city centerDecent location, great views and spacious, as we rented the entire space being apartments A and B. Unfortunately, the apartment is dated, we chose to stay in an apartment so we had the option to cook some meals for our young family, but the kitchen was limited at best and the equipment provided was cheap and not sufficient. Further, the ‘entertainment system’ was farcical! Having to cast from your own phone using a 3rd party app is hardly a luxury facility and is a security risk. Adding insult, the oven door fell off, while we we using it! The hotel staff suggested that we move to another apartment, using our time and hours to do this, but they were fully booked so we couldn’t move and tbh, shouldn’t have needed to since the oven was reported broken Saturday morning and they should have had plenty of time to repair/replace it, if they had appropriate services in place. The daily breakfast was a load of muesli, milk, yogurt and fruit provided at the beginning of our 5 night stay - again, not well considered and certainly not what I’d associate with high quality.

|0.3km from city centerFrom the service we received the minute we arrived we were happy with our experience. Alex the on duty manager was friendly and helpful and explained everything we needed to know. We loved the decor in the room and all the little extras were appreciated. Tissues, snacks, and of course the tea and coffee. I loved the full cream milk left in the fridge for us. The beautiful cups and saucers were lovely to drink from. We enjoyed our wee time in the bar at happy hour, and the wine was delicious thankyou. I also love cashew nuts so I appreciated those. We both enjoyed a bath before bed, and my husband and I agreed that it was the most comfortable bath we have ever had. We loved the sloping back…so sensible and practical! I also used the bath salts provided thanks so much! We had a good nights sleep, although I am not a fan of feather down pillows( I know they are considered luxurious and I have a few at home) but I prefer a firm smaller pillow, so improvised with a towel wrapped in one of my jerseys. After that I dropped off to sleep in the bed which was super comfy and roomy! We enjoyed our light breakfast in the morning, and also the little extra tasty pastries which were a lovely treat. We will definitely choose your hotel over others again if we have the choice in another destination. Thanks for a fabulous night 😃👍

Queenstown
|0.23km from city centerThe location was the best part for us. It was very central in Queenstown and surrounded with many good restaurants, bars and shops. If you are planning on skiing or doing an excursion there are many pick up spots and tour operators near the hostel as well.
The room was a good spot to sleep. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean and they provided a nice small space heater to keep the room warm if needed. We didn't have any body wash on our first night in the shower, we reported to the front desk and they gave us a couple of bars and we were told that they would replace in the morning but when we came back it was unfortunately not replaced but we did get another small bar of soap. The remote in the room was disgusting and covered in what I imagine was at one point part of some good fried chicken or possibly pizza but everything else seemed to be fine.
Check in was a little tricky because there is self check in/check out tablets at the entrance. We couldn't figure out the right combination of booking reference number and name because we had received Jucy's confirmation code in a separate email. The attendant did offer to help us out but we got the right combo at that very moment. You can pick your cards to activate them and we had no issues with this part but later that evening my card deactivated and I went to the front desk a second time to get it working on our first night. The hotel has some very good signage and arrows to tell you where your rooms are and the amenities (rooftop bar/restaurant, laundry room and kitchen area).
The hotel seems to be more of a party hotel and when we arrived there was lots of drinking and people having a good time. This went well into the night and the noise seemed to travel well down the hallway from the rooms that were hosting. We could also hear our neighbour coming and going throughout the first night but it was relatively quiet between 12-6.
We picked this hostel for the location and to save a little bit of money for excursions. It did get very busy in our area the first night we were there but after that we had no issues with the traffic. It was a 15 minute ride to the airport in the Uber and the bus stops at the nearby Stanley St bus hub and only takes about 25 minutes to go to/from the airport with limited traffic.

|0.27km from city centerThis is undoubtedly the worst motel I have ever stayed at in New Zealand. I should have known. It wasn’t boding well when I walked into the Reception area and noted how dirty the carpet was, the walls badly chipped and marked and the sweet, sickly, permeating smell of many a previously cooked meal. Shown to our room (which we had upgraded from a ‘shared bathroom’ set up to an ensuite room for an extra $60), our senses were assaulted by the smell of a ‘plug-in’ wall air freshener that was so strong it had us wondering what it was trying to mask. Shabby, old, tired and bashed furniture, snagged and dirty bed bases with no valences, light switches that clearly hadn’t seen cleaning products for a while, we decided to leave. We were offered a further upgrade to a bigger room and as we couldn’t find anything nearer to our next days meeting point, we hesitantly took it. Very little change at all. Weary from our travels, we decided to stick it out. It was only the next morning, in the light of day, that I really paid attention to some of the finer details I missed the night before. The photos will give the reader an idea. This place is a dump and I hope our overseas tourists don’t think the rest of our hoteliers operate at this level.

|0.24km from city centerWe're very frequent travelers, frequently stay in nice hotels, and can sometimes run the risk of being jaded; Eichardt's might be one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. Where do we start...the stunning location, with the picture postcard Queenstown view from the balcony. The super-personal service, especially from Tom and Casey -- the staff remember not just your food preferences but what you were up to that day, your temperature settings in the room, and your tastes in wine...top notch. The superb, complementary wine tastings in the parlor every evening, allowing us to sample a broad range of New Zealand wines without committing to entire bottles. The recommendations for activities and meals tailored to our tastes. The most comfortable bed we've had in a hotel...the list goes on. Make your way to Queenstown now and stay at Eichardt's.

A great welcome basket and always easy to reach in a moments notice via WhatsApp. Will definitely be where we stay going forward! :) Thanks element escapes for making our holiday one to remember!

|1.29km from city centerMy rating of 'very good' takes into consideration the amount we paid to stay here. This was the cheapest of our 12 accommodations in NZ at under £100 equivalent. We actually felt an element of sadness as the hotel has clearly had a much grander past and is suffering now, either through lack of investment or changes in customer demand. We noticed that visitors to Queenstown are in the majority younger people looking for the thrill experiences, so perhaps a hotel on the outskirts of the town originally designed for the more discerning traveller is no longer what people are looking for. The Dining room for example is grandly furnished and has amazing views across the river - you can imagine a fine dining experience here being very popular , but now the restaurant is closed for evening meals and just opens for breakfast. Such a shame. We were advised by email that evening meals were no longer available so we were prepared for that and as there are other places close by it was not a problem for us. Our room was very spacious and had an equally spacious balcony. It was bigger than many other rooms we had in other accommodations. True, it was dated and tired but the bed was comfortable, clean and we slept well. Fresh milk was easily available at reception in a small glass bottle for in room beverages - I prefer that arrangement - the little plastic packets of milk are not environmentally friendly and fresh milk always tastes nicer. The walk/ hall way to the rooms from reception to the 1st floor was in a very poor state - this gives a very poor impression and badly needs redecorating. Breakfast was ok - not amazing, but for the money paid we felt it served its purpose well. The staff we saw were all very friendly and accommodating. There is no lift in the building and the gentleman on reception offered to take our cases up to our room as he could see they were quite heavy. It will be interesting to see what happens with this hotel over the coming years, we do wish the current team well as clearly things are not easy for them at the moment.

Kitchen and lounge was tidy and very spacious lots of places to sit. Location is amazing !! 5mins walk to anything. Staff were lovely as well. 2 thing is that we could hear everything happening up stairs , walls are a bit thin but lucky we are deep sleepers and then lastly we found some belongings of previous stayers under our bed. Other than those 2 things very happy with our stay.

|0.22km from city centerGood location, comfy room with balcony with partial sea view. Had everything you needed but was a bit of a strange layout in the whole complex. To get to our room from reception we could get part of the way by a lift but then had to go outside twice to get to the right block. However, there was parking in the basement which had a direct lift up to the floor we were on. Like most places in Queenstown, there was a lot of building work going on & roadworks which made things a bit awkward but not impossible. Staff were friendly & helpful. There was a restaurant on site but we indulged in room service which was excellent.

|0.26km from city centerThe Carlin Hotel is a stunning property. The views from the balconies are glorious. I really liked the location - just outside of town, so that it is convenient to everything but during the busy holiday season, it’s on a quiet street. It’s a steep walk back from town, but after all the eating we were doing, we didn’t mind. The rooms are beautiful, tastefully decorated. The staff is attentive and friendly (shout out to Patrick who went out of his way to make a stay special). The food at the restaurant is good - we had Christmas dinner at the hotel and it was really delicious. Breakfasts we tasty and plentiful. If you’ve looked at booking this hotel, you know that it is REALLY expensive. They bill themselves as a six star hotel, but at this price, I’d like even five stars to be perfection. Cons - the air conditioning is wonky. It kept shutting off in the middle of the night and we’d wake up and not be able to get it on again. Our family had the Vista and Panorama Suites and the adjoining king rooms had absolutely no windows - of course this is because of the layout of the hotel which is built into a hill - but not only was there no natural light, but it felt like a fire hazard since the only way out in case of emergency is through the door into the hall. One evening, when the restaurant where we had a reservation was out of food (this seems to be an issue during the holidays in NZ), we went back to the hotel before 8:30 p.m. and were told the only food we could order was from the overnight dining menu, when the hotel menu clearly states that the entire dinner menu is available until 9 p.m. - the food was still tasty, but the menu was extremely limited. Other than that, the stay was heavenly and I’d gladly come back and stay again.

|2.01km from city centerWhilst this is an hotel that is rated as a luxury hotel there are a few features which don’t justify that title. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable, and most have beautiful views of the lake. However there are a few things that are irritating. Being offered a coffee on arrival and then realise you have to pay for it, having to ask for enough tea and coffee every day, and always having to ask for more milk. The room service menu is very limited and not available when it says. We had to order an early breakfast which came in a carrier bag, with no milk or yogurt. Eating muesli dry is not fun! Apparently they had run out of yoghurt? I am sure when these minor details are ironed out the Rees would be truly classed as a luxury hotel.

The staff will introduce the nearest supermarkets, sightseeing spots, and maps to the guests. The rooms are the right size. There is a large bed and 2 small beds, suitable for families with children. But especially do not understand that it is a family room, only two people are allowed to stay, and the third person is charged. At the other end of the room, I did not inform VISA of the service charge. When I checked out the bill, I found that I received the handling fee.

|1.52km from city center Friendly front of house and house keeping staff. Although there are staffing shortages everywhere, the staff here were always available and helpful. Our house keeping team although on a 3 day turn around service, did not get to service our room while we were there, offered towels and extra tea, coffee without hesitation when requested. Thank you so much! The decor is quite out dated and while at first it was off putting, (cream/green interior hallway and furniture, corridor stained carpets, seeing the size of our room and how clean it was made up for it. The bed was a king/possible super king, very comfortable and extra pillows provided. The continental breakfast is more than sufficient. Again the waiting staff I approached where happy to top up, add more (the pastries). Thanks for a wonderful stay!

|0.48km from city centerStayed here for a couple of nights and ate in the Observatory restaurant both nights. Service wasn’t too bad with friendly and attentive staff, the food was good too (prawn curry and chicken bao’s). I was on the fifth floor and had a nice big room that was a little let down by the view which overlooked more of the hotel rooms. Only issue I had was all of my towels were removed when my room was cleaned, so on the morning of checkout I had to dry myself with a hand towel which was obviously not ideal. Reception staff were okay but I didn’t find them overly personable compared to many of the their hotels I stay at. It’s only a short walk into town although be aware that when coming back the hill is a bit of a steep one - worth bearing in mind if you have children or elderly family. All in all though a pleasant stay

Queenstown
|0.71km from city centerMarianne and Sam went above and beyond the call of duty for us at the Queenstown House Lakeside Luxury Apartments! Visiting from Australia in late June-early July, we were originally going to stay only 5 nights in Queenstown, in one of their one-bedroom apartments (the lovely Unit 3, to be exact); but my partner and I both tested positive for COVID; my partner tested positive on our very first night, and I tested positive 2 nights later. This meant we would each be required to isolate for 7 days after the onset of symptoms, according to NZ Ministry of Health guidelines. Marianne and Sam did everything to look after us, and even extended our stay twice so that we could finish our isolation at their property. They also had some clear COVID procedures in place already, for example about how to arrange for fresh towels and sheets, and ready advice about where to get a PCR test, so that their preparedness made us feel much more at ease in this awkward situation. Since neither of us could go shopping for food or medicines, there were many little things I asked for that they were happy to bring me. When I ordered a thermometer and a pulse-oximeter from a pharmacy, they picked them up for me; when asked for fresh ginger root to make ginger tea, and batteries for the pulse-oximeter I had just purchased, they brought me some; when the grocery store that I ordered delivery from had sold out of lettuce and birthday candles (yes, I spent my birthday in COVID isolation!), Sam and Marianne brought me both, along with a bottle of champagne as a birthday present! And then there was the miracle with the extension of our stay. We were originally going to depart on a Sunday, but my partner's COVID case required isolation until Tuesday; so they extended our stay 2 more days until Tuesday, at which point they had new guests coming; but then I caught COVID myself and I required isolation through Thursday; I booked a room at another hotel, but then learned that that hotel would not allow an isolating person to check-in; the hotel's suggestion was that I stay at home, which of course I couldn't do, since I have no home in New Zealand to go to (since I'm visiting from Australia!). I had just started a frantic search for a last minute airbnb or something, when we called Sam, who discovered that a cancellation had just come in for one of their studio apartments down the hall, and it was free for two nights—exactly what we needed! So once again Queenstown House had come to our rescue. On Tuesday we packed our things and moved from the one-bedroom Unit 3 across the hall into the studio Unit 5, which was equally lovely. We finally checked out on the Thursday when my isolation was over, four more nights that we had originally planned. The Queenstown House Lakeside Luxury Apartments are exceptional. The beds were supremely comfortable, the water temperature in the sinks and shower were perfect (we had plenty of hot water, and the cold drinking water was nice and cold), and the

|0.23km from city centerThe things that I liked about this accommodation was its proximity to the city centre (walkable to everywhere), the well equipped kitchen which we used to cook several meals, the 2 bathrooms included in the 2 bedroom apartment and the fact there was a washer and dryer. The apartment building itself is quite 'higgle-piggle'. Lots of stairs and we felt quite overlooked wherever we were. The balconies are all right next to one and other and if others are out there it feels quite awkward as you are about 3 meters from the neighbours conversations. Both bedrooms backed onto a walkway to other peoples apartments which resulted in loud voices straight past where we were all sleeping early in the morning and late at night when others were coming and going. If the blinds were open at all everyone could see straight into the bedroom. The apartment was also extremely hot in the afternoons with no fans or air con supplied (on day 2 we did request a fan and it was promptly brought to us). But one small pedestal fan really didn't help for 5 people. There was also A LOT of partying going on while we were there... it was the week after Christmas so i get people are celebrating but with 3 young kids it was VERY noisy. There is no onsite reception and the offsite reception is only in the day so we really just had to suffer through screaming and swearing etc for hours of the night. Overall, our stay was mostly fine and if i didnt have small kids I probably would have rated it better but for a family stay I would personally choose somewhere else in the future.
