There is a good restaurant, called Xayiati, directly opposite serving delicious Greek food and there is a wide choice of restaurants in the city centre a short walk away. The rooms were modern, spacious and comfortable with plenty of electric sockets and a kettle to make hot drinks. The breakfast was very good. There was lots of choice. The food was set out to allow social distancing and gloves and hand sanitiser were provided. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There was a car park a few metres away which the hotel has a special arrangement with so that guests pay a discounted rate.

Location is perfect for city break...only 3-5 minute walk from centre and same to fortress on harbour front. Reception staff super helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good but could be hotter...was always just lukewarm. No proper parking at hotel but place called porto parking 1 minute from hotel was awesome...cost us only €20 for 5 days. Highly recommend! We would def stay here again at time of year when you don't need a pool.

On the same street there is a paying underground parking (EUR 12) we used at 5 occasions without any problem. There is also a spice, cake, restaurants and a multitude of shops around. Geographically, the location is ideal. We have resided at the apartment 1 of the 4th floor. The hotel is very comfortable and comfortable. In the morning, you are left at lunch for two: cereals, milk, eggs, confectionery, bread, etc. However, the apartment would need some more equipment: microwaves, sheets, bread grill, slipboard, convenient, The hotel is very small and it is not very easy to get in the room. When you stay there for more than a week, you realize, at this moment, the lack of equipment.

|20.83km from city centerWe just finished a four night stay at Mitsis Laguna and can’t wait to go back. We stayed in the Royal Suite which was a total splurge and completely wonderful. But the property as a whole is very well designed so every room is convenient to everything. The walkout pool rooms and ocean view rooms all looked fantastic as well. Even though we arrived with no dinner reservations and the resort was fully booked, the concierge got us reservations for exactly what we wanted. Our favorite was the Cretan restaurant — the food was amazing and our service (Thursday June 15 was exceptional!!!). The main restaurant (buffet) was very good as well and even in peak hours we never waited more than a couple minutes to be seated. Incredible! We also loved that there is late night buffet food served until 4am along with a late night bar — we were never up quite that late but we did arrive at midnight hour first night and were thrilled to be able to eat hot food! The central pool is heated and an absolute delight to swim in. Seats fill up but we were still always able to snag one whenever turned up. The beach is just at the edge of the property and gorgeous — if a bit choppy for actual swimming! The food cart by the beach though was fantastic, and we hit it every day. We also loved the ice cream shop by the pool. You can rent a car at a desk in the hotel for a day or more easily — was about 60 euros and we drove the 30 minutes to visit the Palace of Knossos, admiring the coastal views along the way. Our daughter also truly loved the magic show (kudos to Rocco the magician!) and the really great arcade. This is a fantastic resort. Even though it’s a large property, you are always just steps away from whatever you need and never feel like you’re part of a crowd. The service from literally everyone is so wonderful. I am writing this from the airport and we are sitting here planning our next Mitsis vacation. Highly recommend.

|0.77km from city centerI was really looking forward to this trip to Crete but my high hopes were dashed when I arrived at this hotel. We paid good money to be in the area but what we got was a second-rate dump. We did not even get to stay in the main hotel! Even though we booked more than 3 months in advance we were relegated to some hastily remodeled dirty annex across the street. No A/C in either building except in your room so eating meals or hanging out in the social area were very uncomfortable. The bathroom was so small I had to lean to the right anytime I had use the facilities because the counter overhung the toilet by a third. Hair from the previous guest was all over the bathroom so I question whether or not the room was ever cleaned. Hallways are dingy and dark with room service trays that sat in the way for days! Elevator is so small only one person can go up at a time - if you have luggage you are taking the stairs. ”Breakfast” was so bad that even though it was free my wife and I walked elsewhere to find food every morning. The bed was so hard we could only sleep for a few hours at a time before we woke up with aches and pains. To say that this experience was a major disappointment would be a massive understatement.

Although there was little deposition area or lifting options for the towels - but for two nights it wasn't so bad. Very nice host with great local tips to eat - thank you very much for the beautiful time. We would like to continue!

|1.18km from city centerFor many years I have traveled 100 or more days a year. In SEP-OCT 2022, I traveled for a month in Greece staying at 12 hotels (and on an overnight Ferry). In this context and related to price, Heraklion Old Port Apartments was above average. PROS: Cost was very reasonable. The room with living room was clean, very spacious and with a well provided kitchen and fridge (supermarket food was extremely inexpensive in Crete). There were extra towels so no need for service. The young woman at the desk was very helpful and cordial. CONS: Close to the old port but about 700 meters to center of town and more to the National Museum or the main bus station (to Knossos or to the beaches). Still all can be reach by walking. The add say the room had great views which did not materialize. Heraklion has a lively main street around the fountain of the lions and a Great museum on the Minoan civilization which was spectacular. The museum in Heraklion was great but Knossos (reach by city bus) was very disappointing since I care for historical archaeology and not for the distorted recreation of the site by an over-imaginative British amateur. The beaches near Heraklion (which can be reach by inexpensive regular city buses) are adequate but not spectacular. In late September the beaches were not crowded at all, but still with warm water to swim. Heraklion was of interest in itself and where I rented the car to visit the rest of Crete (Xania with a picturesque Venetian port, spectacular Elefonsina Beach great for snorkeling, great ruins of Faestos, and many other atttractions). I spent 6 nights in Crete and could have enjoyed another week at least. Next trip I will stay longer in Crete. Parting remarks: Greece is wonderful, except for the touristic islands which were crowded even in October and I may skip them altogether next time. The Peloponesse resulted better than expected. Athens was safe anytime anywhere I moved, even after midnight. Travel light because not all hotels have elevators and in ancient towns you will climb many stairs and walk over cobblestones. Missing church number 59 was OK, sitting in a café watching people go by and doing nothing was inspiring even for hyper me. I had a wonderful trip.

Breakfast was OK, though coffee could be better. I’d expect more from a Greek hotel than a cheap coffee machine with plastic-tasting coffee. |0.73km from city centerWe stayed at the hotel for five nights in July 2022. There were eight of us in total so two families. The location is absolutely perfect as it is right in the middle of Heraklion, opposite the bustling square with its wonderful with its Artisan stalls which are worth visiting and only a short walk to the shops and wonderful selection of restaurants. Heraklion is a truly bustling and Cosmopolitan city. The Hotel is very close to Heraklion Archaeological Museum and a bus or taxi ride to the beach. It is also not too far from the port you can walk there but we took a very quick taxi due to the heat. Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome and our baggage was taken to our room for us. The reception area is refreshing to walk into from the heat outside and the decor is lovely and very modern with a comfortable seating area. There is a downstairs bar which is very chic with beautiful artwork where you can eat and you can just walk through to the shops outside to have a mooch with is perfect. Our check in process was very smooth and efficient. Check out is at 12 and check in is at 2. We had travelled from Chania by taxi. and were a little early. The gentleman on reception was able to find our group a room to check into while they got our other rooms ready which was very helpful and we did not have to wait too long. We had the economy rooms two different types between us. The ones which have balconies and the ones which are inside but don't have a balcony. The latter were a bit bigger than the ones with the balcony and the children's bed has its own little area which we really liked. The bathroom and room were very clean and the cleaners were very helpful and polite. We had a small fridge all the usual amenities you would expect and the air conditioning always worked well. I really feel (being from the UK) that the hotel represents very good value for the price we paid - if we were to pay a similar price in England we would not be staying in nearly such a nice hotel that's for sure. Certainly not one with a pool on the roof! We absolutely loved the roof area. The pool is quite small (but still big enough to have a lovely, cool swim). The pool area is clean and there are sunbeds and chairs you can sit on around the pool and plenty of place to sunbathe. It is absolutely lovely the perfect place to relax and take in the view. They also have a lifeguard up there at all times which we were not expecting. The pool is open until 8 at night but you can still go up to the roof for drinks and to eat your dinner after this time. They also provide towels for you which is great. The bar on the roof is absolutely excellent and the service is impeccable. The bar staff and waiters and waitresses work so hard and are so friendly (whilst also remaining professional). The suite is great, with a balcony. The hotel is clean and tidy. The original check-in at 2 pm was very intimate and informed that you can check in at 10 am. If you still go to Crete, you will definitely choose this hotel. The only thing missing is that there is no gym.

|0.75km from city centerI had a pleasant 7 night stay here at this accommodation while in Heraklion, Crete. It belongs to the Lato Boutique, which is the main hotel. The Annex is right opposite and required card access to enter. Room was the Economy room (15 sq. metres), a little on the small side, but good enough for a solo traveller. The room was right next to the stairwell and the lift, so there were times I could hear people moving about, but at night it was very quiet, and there were no sleep disruptions. Bed was comfy, air-conditioning was also good. The shower was also good, with shampoo and soap provided, though I noticed it was running a little low towards the end of my stay (i.e., no refills were done). I also appreciated that a luggage rack was provided, along with two bottles of water on check-in day. Fridge was big enough to fit lots of mineral water bottles to keep them cold, which would be a great reprieve in the summer time. Room safe was incredibly huge as well, it can easily store laptops securely, if needed. The elevator door got stuck on the day of check-out, but still worked, so not too big of an issue there. Wi-Fi requires a special code that you can get from the reception. My first code strangely stopped working after two days, but was promptly rectified after I informed the reception of the issue. There were no other connectivity issues for me. The hotel location is pretty near to the Venetian Port, and the Rocca Fortress; it is also walking distance away from the main shopping street in Heraklion and lots of good eating places nearby. There are also supermarkets nearby to get water as well. It does get quiet at night, but I did not encounter any incidents that made me feel unsafe. My room came with buffet breakfast included, which is served in the main building. Breakfast starts service from 7 am onwards, and was generally quite crowded at the start. Depending on the crowd level, the staff will occasionally open up a new section of the dining area. Breakfast was generally good, there was a good spread of American breakfast items, to pastries, ham and cheese and even Greek yogurt with a lot of condiments. It varied a little bit from day-to-day, but was generally the same for the most part.

|1.25km from city centerWe stayed at this hotel twice during our recent holiday. Our first stay was in the suite on the top floor. This is a spectacular room with a HUGE balcony. The room and balcony are the entire 5th floor, overlooking the churches and park. It even has an outdoor hot tub. Our second room was also nice, but it was tough going from the suite to a standard room. The location of the hotel is great. It faces the church courtyard and there are several cafes. There is easy access to the entire center of Heraklion. All of the hotel staff are amazing. They were polite and helpful. I would like to single out Petrali Margarita, the hotel manager. She was warm and friendly and really seemed to care about our happiness. She made dinner reservations for us and nail appointments for my wife and niece. She would greet us if we were outside at a cafe. Just a wonderful asset. My ONLY criticism would be the servers at the Hacienda cafe. The were rude and some were unprofessional. It took forever to get waited on, to the point of us moving to the other cafes in the square. It was hard to believe it was part of the hotel. The servers really need to be trained on efficiency and customer interaction. Beside that, a splendid hotel. We will go back again.

Otherwise : A lot of noise from early morning (big banging, etc.) - to the point where you can't rest. Small and uncomfortable rooms. (They don't even have hangers in the bathroom for towels!) The rooms show strong signs of abandonment. They need renovation. Very modest breakfast, with only the very basics. Everything served is without taste! Only low quality filter coffee is served - without taste. If one wants to get a decent coffee, they must order it from the cafe bar at the entrance and is charged. There is a scale for weighting luggage at the reception. Requires a fee of 1 Euro !!! The staff, although very polite, are not happy or cheerful with clients. To ξενοδοχείο είναι κάτω του μετρίου και προφανώς πουλάει λόγω της θέσης του που είναι σε κεντρικό σημείο του Ηρακλείου. Αυτό αποτελεί το μόνο του πλεονέκτημα. Κατα τα άλλα : Πολύ θόρυβος από τα ξημερώματα (κρούση μεγάλων κτλ) - σε σημείο να μη μπορεί να ξεκουραστεί κανείς. Μικρά και άβολα δωμάτια. (Δεν έχουν ούτε κρεμάστρες στο μπάνιο για τις πετσέτες !) Τα δωμάτια δείχνουν έντονα σημάδια εγκατάλειψης. Χρειάζονται ανακαίνιση. Πολύ λιτό πρωινό, με τα πολύ βασικά μόνο. Πολύ άνοστα όλα ! Καφές μόνο φίλτρου και χωρίς γεύση. Αν θέλει κανείς να πάρει έναν αξιοπρεπή καφέ, τον παραγγέλνει από το cafe bar της εισοδου και χρεώνεται. Υπάρχει χρέωση 1 Ευρώ για να ζυγίσει κάποιος τη βαλίτσα του !!! Το προσωπικό, αν και πολύ ευγενικό, δεν είναι καθόλου πρόσχαρο.

Our room was not quite ready because we arrived a little earlier than planned. We were offered a drink for the waiting time and there was a nice seating opportunity. Our room was very nice and for one night more than enough. There was a delicious hand-made greeting snack, a beautiful bottle of wine and other snacks. Water and a small coffee machine were included. Unfortunately we went up to the port very early morning. However, we have enjoyed our short stay here very much. If we want to spend a few nights again in Heraklion, this will certainly be a point of contact for us.

Previously, we had always selected to stay in a hotel but due to the current pandemic we felt reticent due to the various restrictions imposed, hence losing the overall hotel ambience! It was for this reason I decided to search for an alternative and fortunate to come across the City Lion Apartments! The brand new apartments, completed 2020, are located metres away from the famous Morisini Fountain! The building has been restored and extended to feature one/two bedroom apartments! Although only two of us, we chose the two bedroom loft apartment featuring a mezzanine floor! The apartment is fully fitted with all the mod cons, fully fitted kitchen, dining area, bathrooms second to none, air con, international tv stations etc! The apartment also had a balcony so we could view the everyday life of this vibrant city! Christos, our host was most welcoming and, along with Michael, went to great lengths to make sure our stay lived up to expectations! City Lion Apartments, Heraklion, is without doubt a 5* accommodation amidst this wonderful historic city!

|1.4km from city centerHad the pleasure of staying at Intra Muros. Initially I just came there to settle in, meet some new friends and venture out from there. My first night there I ended up meeting the most amazing people whilst traveling and needless to say I ended up extending my stay with them because the vibe there was so good that I didn’t want to leave. Have to thank the owner of the establishment who was there during the day and all the amazing volunteers that make my stay amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. My first day there I was invited to go on a sunset walk by David which led to me getting to know every one who was there which ended up at an amazing Greek Mexican fusion restaurant. After dinner which we ended up going out around town. David is a volunteer staying at intra muros and does a couple of hikes and tours around the area and around. If anyone needs any food option or advice on the local eating and drinking spots he’s your man. My most memorable moment staying at the hostel was the hike that we did up to the aqueduct and the second hike we did which ended at a winery for a tasting and charcuterie. Safe to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I’ll definitely be back next year. Thank you again to everyone who made my stay wonderful. Until next time.

Centrally situated in Heraklion, the hotel was ideal for our five day stay. It was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was good. (Our ferry had arrived at 6 a.m. but we were invited to have breakfast after checking in). We also had dinner in the bar on two occasions and that was both good and well priced. We would certainly return if we visit Heraklion again.

I walked to the airport and it took me half an hour, a lot of restaurants are within walking distance too. The city center would be closer than the airport. The reception lady was friendly and correct, the rooms and bathroom are a little older but still in good state and good working airco. I did found long female hair on my bed, which shouldn't be there but everything was good and the bathroom was very clean!. Since you are near the airport you do hear an airplane flying over from time to time. Its worth the price for a short stay close to the airport.

|1.4km from city centerThe hotel is strategically located within walls of old city between the beach of Ammoudara and the main attractions, not so far from them. Hotel is re-innovated 7 floor building. Rooms are not large, but but enough for the convenient accommodation. The room has the safe, TV, several chairs, table and the wardrobe, electric kettle, air conditioner. There is quite large balcony with two beach chairs and the small table and also drying hanger for the clothes. Unfortunately there is quite a lot of dust in the air from street, so everything gets dusty very quickly. The room has electric sockets next to the beds and two other sockets, one of them with USB port. The personnel speaks English and very friendly and helpful. The avenue Kalokerinou named after the discoverer of the Knossos Palace is quite busy road so it is nicer to live on higher floors. There is a restaurant serving good continental breakfast. There is omelette, ham, cheese, Greek yogurt, flakes, fruits, on the menu. Just 70 meters from the hotel there is Bazaar and in 200 m is Chalkiadakis supermarket, Lidl in 800 m outside of the city walls. All closed on Sundays. The avenue Kalokerinou has several street food places, and if you walk 400 m to Morosini Lions Fountain you can find even more restaurants there. Heraklion has a problem with great beaches, but in 500 m from the hotel there is a Dermatos Bay, where is a wild beach where one can deep into the sea. The proper beach is in Ammoudara in 2.2 km from the hotel. There is another beach in 1 km in front of Talos Plaza shopping mall, but it is rocky and no sunbeds or lifeguard. Another place to swim is the port mole starting from the Kules fortress in 1.2 km. The mole protects from high waves when it is windy and other places are not suitable for swimming.

I booked a car rental for 300 euros through the front desk. I arranged a super broken car and asked to pay in advance. I was speechless when I saw the car.
