Great location and our second stay here and likely our last. Had a terrible interaction with the staff. Room did not get cleaned although I contacted the front desk 4 times as well as on check in of my need for the room to be cleaned Sunday. I wanted the room fully cleaned (sheets/towels) on the 4th night because my family was leaving and my friend was coming to stay and I didn't want her to stay on dirty sheets or reuse our dirty towels. No one cleaned it. Sheets still on floor (from pullout couch we no longer needed) when I came back late that night it was due to be cleaned. I called the 1-800 # as well as contacting the front desk about this issue and was assured it would be cleaned the next day. Still was not cleaned the next day until I contacted the housekeeping manager and he agreed to do it but he had been told it was done the previous day. If I had not made this 5th attempt to get my room cleaned we would have come home late at night to a dirty room and my friend would have had to sleep in dirty sheets. GROSS! Upon heading to the front desk after all of this the staff member (manager?) asked me if I was "sure my room wasn't cleaned?" and told me "one of my most reliable housekeepers said she cleaned it Sunday." If I had not made 5 contacts with staff my room would have NEVER been cleaned. She continued to tell me they only clean every 4 nights. This was the 5th day on the afternoon I spoke with her and she kept reiterating they only clean every 4 nights which didn't even make sense because by her own rules my room was a day overdue. If I had not caught the housekeeping manager in the hallway on the 5th day my friend would have had to stay in a dirty bed. He was super helpful and was the only staff member who helped. Really unacceptable.

Booked this hotel for our first cross border shopping trip after Covid based on the rating. And it was gross and run down and not what we wanted at all. Our studio room had peeling paint on the toilet seats, as if someone had poured acid on them and the hotel never changed them. Stains on the pillow cases and blankets. My parents one bedroom suite smelled of cigarette smoke! Strange in a non smoking hotel. But one day as we returned noticed people clustered outside smoking near the exit doors and their room. Maybe that’s why? Unpleasant. As the booker of hotels, I felt bad subjecting them to this one. We requested rooms on the highest floor and quiet. Given rooms on the first floor right next to parking lot. On check in, front desk lady quite rude to customers right before us. Asians that were wearing masks. Bad vibes; anti Asian hate during covid? And never anyone at the desk when we came in and out. Perhaps short staffed from Covid? Not sure Don’t waste your valuable time and money at this hotel. Book elsewhere!

This property is in a great location. Close to many restaurants, Somerset Mall and Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills. The rooms have all been updated and it’s nice to have clean furniture. My room was clean. My bed was comfortable. The pillows not so comfortable. The staff were friendly especially Caj, Tammy and the best bartender in the world Galam. The evening reception is great with great service and great bar selection and great drinks. The bar area is immaculate and has several TV’s to watch sports with free drinks and a bag of snacks due to covid that is limited. The made to order breakfast is amazing and pretty large selection. The Riparian Grill on premises has good food as well. The hallways and elevators could stand to be cleaned a little better but just as everyone else they are short staffed. The traffic noise (room 412)can be a little much in the rooms facing the expressway but the second day I brought a fan and that eliminated that problem. To avoid this next time ask for a room facing the parking lot (401/436). To management the rooms are so nice and updated it would greatly benefit to clean the register vents in the rooms mine was pretty dusty. There is not a hot tub it was taken out years ago. That used to be nice after a long day. I hope they’d reconsider that. Overall my stay was great and I have to leave a five star rating because being short staffed as most businesses are right now you have to overlook some things and focus on the positive.

Breakfast is general, bread, cereal, milk and the like. The location is on the roadside, there are no commercial outlets around, but this is not a problem. Within a few kilometers of driving, there are more shopping malls. There is a parking lot. The hotel is relatively simple and has no place for children to play.

I just needed a quick overnight to Southfield. I often stay at HI Ex and saw this had decent reviews. Very warmly greeted by the clerk on duty, Sunday July 26th around 5 PM. Got to the room. Looked clean, though a bit worn from the years (scuffs and chips on walls, tub, furniture - nothing major). So - #1 - a light bulb was out in the bathroom. It's already a bit dark in there, so putting on makeup was something of a pain. #2 - the body wash bottle looked like something they rummaged out of the trash. The label was peeling and it didn't work. I had to open it up to get the product. #3 - the drape holder was bent, not allowing it to close properly. So - not that I expected a peeping Tom ... but the parking lot light in the room all night was a bit annoying. #4 - bag breakfast. I realize this is an unusual time, but a mystery brown bag with wet spots on the side (condensation? grease? who knows?) is NOT an appetizing way to start the day. I went to a restaurant. Finally - the housekeeping staff was changing out the garbage in front of the hotel when I arrived. They had their large cart squarely in front of the front door and appeared rather annoyed that I was waiting for them to move it to enter the hotel. So ... great clerk. Clean room. Otherwise ... Homewood Troy Mi: I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 15 years and have never been disappointed until now. Some things might be COVID related but others definitely are not. There is no longer any preferential treatment for Diamond Hilton members, no welcome email, no welcome package. The reserved room was not available upon arrival at 5pm so my online checkin basically did not work. At check in they had to change me to another room. Rooms haven’t changes in 15 years and are very dated. I don’t really mind the interior so much as long as it is clean. However, cleanliness has slipped a lot since my previous visits(last stay was March of 2020), on this occasion there were peanuts on the floor from previous guests, the bed was poorly made up, a thick layer of dust on the ceiling fan and other parts of the room, stains in the carpet, bubbling wallpaper. By default rooms are no longer cleaned during your stay, unless you request it. Then the ‘social’ events with food and drinks have been cut back to once a week. Breakfast isn’t what it was, not to mention that for breakfast everything is now provided with polystyrene bowls, plastic utensils etc. Covid might be mentioned as an excuse, but why do we need to create even more plastic ‘waste’? The trash bin was overflowing at 7am . I also got let down by the laundry service, according to the hotel forms it is $8.50 to wash a pair of jeans, but when it is returned they charged $18 for washing. When I complained about this I was told they would address it, but after checkingnn by out the 18$ was still on the invoice. My company hosts a lot of employees and guests at this hotel as it is the closest hotel, but this is likely to change unless the hotel changes its ways. Rates and service are no longer in sync. Where previously I always rated my stays at this location with 4/5 or 5/5, but now I am even reluctant to give 2/5

Staying at a hotel in COVID-19 times is a little interesting. Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Detroit Troy doesn’t miss a beat. To be fair there isn’t normal staff. Actually lately nothing is normal but Marriott properties seem to be surviving. I was in for a quick overnight in Detroit but I needed a hotel around the Detroit Zoo is so I stayed at the Troy location. Every time I am in a new city I seek out the Marriott properties so I know what I am getting into. This location is 4 years old and décor matches some in CT and Albany, NY I have stayed at. The traffic is one way out from so it is a little tricky getting in. If you go out and come back and make sure you pay attention to traffic patterns. The hotel is following all the CDC guidelines and the largest thing I noticed is how spotless everything was. Masks are required in the lobby area in an around the hotel also. I asked the clerk if it was a new property and she said now. I got my keys and headed up to room 313 located near the elevator bank. It was very quiet which is usually my biggest concern anywhere I stay. The room was very clean and it looks as if extra effort to make sure everything was in stock in the microwave/ refrigerator area. The bathroom was very nice with the normal amenities. The TV was working well and no problem with the Marriott WiFi. I went across the street for dinner but since there was restrictions I brought it back to the room to eat. I didn’t really get to use any part of the pool or gym but they seem to be closed anyway due to virus concerns. Breakfast is the “grab and go concept” There is milk and juice in containers. Every bag as granola bar, dry cereal also. That is because the buffet style is closed in all locations again because of COVID concerns. I was impressed with staff operating in limited numbers with all that’s going on. Just a side note. The traffic is one way out from so it is a little tricky getting in. If you go out and come back and make sure you pay attention to traffic patterns. This is a nice facility and definitely consider it if you need a place to stay and are in the area.

Stayed five nights with my 16 year old son for the USA Hockey Nationals competition. Pleasant staff, easy check in. We requested 2 doubles and a refrigerator, and the reservation was correct when we checked in and arrived in our room. Bathroom is extremely clean. Have someone clean the lime scale around the faucet handles before your black counters are ruined! Bedding is bright white and appears new and clean, mattresses were fine but pillows were either squishy or rock hard. Carpets seem clean, but under the beds were many candy wrappers. Breakfast buffet for our USA Hockey group was every morning with generously long hours. Huge steaming trays of real, not powdered, scrambled eggs, perfect bacon, large chunks of browned country potatoes, either pancakes or french toast and every imaginable bread, bagel or muffin. Cold cereal but no oatmeal for GF girl. Fruit was only apples oranges and bananas, I would have enjoyed some melon, berries or a fruit salad instead. Banquet servers were very efficient at keeping stocked and cleaning up. Nice job day after day. Check out was also a breeze. Was charged $10 for a room microwave we didn't receive, but easily corrected. Microwave for all rooms in the tower is in the executive business center, behind the single desk and computer. Odd placement, but I didn't need it this trip. Towels, soap and toiletries were readily available from housekeeping or front desk if more were needed, but room housekeeping service was still limited due to covid restrictions. Hotel fitness center includes two treadmills, one bike and two ellipticals plus some large mats and a set of dumbbells. Enough for a basic workout, and not the smallest hotel gym I have seen. Elevators in the main hotel are very efficient and keep waiting to a minimum. Bar service was friendly and prices not unreasonable. House wine was quite tasty! I did not dine here but based on the breakfast I am sure their food is competently prepared. All in all, a very pleasant stay.
