|0.17km from city centerCheck-in is available at 3pm. The room and bathroom are large, but the windows are smaller than the room. The windows of other rooms in the building opposite have no view. The windows are locked and cannot be opened. I contacted the front desk and said that all the windows in the hotel cannot be opened, but because there are ventilation facilities, There was no feeling of depression during my stay. The bed was comfortable and clean. WiFi is slow. The location is close to the city center and a 30-minute walk to the train station. The service attitude of the hotel was poor. I paid in advance to stay for 3 nights. Due to an emergency at home, I only stayed for two nights. After many negotiations with the hotel, the hotel would not refund the remaining 1 night's prepaid room fee.

|0.04km from city centerI read the reviews before I arrived and I have to say was worried about the state of the hotel. I arrived to a warm friendly welcome inside a beautiful old building. I was given room 10 . It was beautiful. Tea, coffee, biscuits, running hot water, comfortable bed, lovely and warm room In temperature. We booked in the Risley park pub for food as the restaurant in the hotel wasn’t open. The pub is less than 5 minutes walk. I booked this hotel as it’s less than 15 minutes from East Midlands airport and at a third of the cost of the usual chain hotels. I slept like a baby and checkout was accommodated at 3am. Do not let previous reviews deter you from booking this beautiful hotel. It was built in 1310 so yes it is an old building, yes there are cracks but this is all character for a building of this age.

Derby
|2.24km from city centerWe came to stay for 1 night for an event at our daughters University. We was not sure what to expect initially but first impressions were ok for the price paid. We only spent around an hour there after a 5 hour drive before heading to the event we came for so we were tired and didn’t check around the room or anything. Upon our return, we noticed that the extractor fan was not working and not switch on any wall to control it then also noticed the screw for the shower rail was loose enough that it is only just hanging on. It was also very warm inside the room but there is no air con or even a fan to speak of so had to sleep with the windows open. The place was also very dusty in obvious places like the light fixings and the top of the mirror etc. And also a lot of mould/mildew around the bath and taps, which when wiped, a lot came off easily. We decided that we were going to report the issues to the staff in the morning. We sadly had very little sleep as the room above us seems to have had very squeaky floors and the occupants were up late and arose early. Before we ever leave a hotel, we always ***** the bed and sheets and put them into the bath for the cleaning staff. This is when we found old blood stains on the quilt and questionable yellow stains on the mattress and mattress protector. I had to come to the conclusion that the cleaning staff are clearly not cleaning to a high enough standard and are rushing through everything. It’s a shame as we cannot warrant staying here again and will look for elsewhere in future. The redeeming factor was the staff who seemed very pleasant and friendly. Although the only staff we did see were inside the pub on arrival and on exit.

Derby
|1.35km from city centerI recently stayed at the Pentahotel Derby for a total of 3 nights, split across 2 stays. On both occasions, I didn’t feel very welcome checking in. On the second occasion, I was allocated a room with two single beds, with an accessible bathroom. I wasn’t given the option of a double bedroom and had to go down to get this changed, as there was availability. In addition, when I first checked in, I had to leave my credit card details in case I went over my company’s meal allowance, but on the second visit, I didn’t have to – inconsistent if you ask me. The public areas (reception, restaurant, and corridors) are nicely decorated. The food in the restaurant during the evenings is good; a special shoutout to one of the female waiters. She was always bubbly, and proactive, and nothing was too much of an ask for her. It was initially a tad unclear if you ordered food at the bar, but it turned out there is table service! Keeping on the topic of food – breakfast, which was mediocre. It was very disappointing that the coffee machine was still out of order on the last morning of check-out (Tuesday wasn’t working / Friday wasn’t working). Moving on to the double room. The decoration is minimalistic, and I was satisfied with the room’s cleanliness, although my room wasn't cleaned on the second night's stay. It is probably one of the better hotel rooms to stay in, in Derby – by the limited selection of hotels in Derby, not necessarily by choice. I found the bed comfortable and the bathroom acceptable. There was blood on one of the towels, which was slightly concerning though! One thing that lets Penta down (same in Reading) is that they don’t have an iron and an iron board in their rooms. Instead, you must collect one (if there is one available) from the corridor. Not only is this very annoying, but the irons also have buttons missing, and are in urgent need of repair. I stay in a lot of hotels with work, and I found the following things irritating: Tap placement doesn’t allow great hand placement in the sink / No soft close toilet seats / No master light switch near the bed (for all lights) / On floor 2 facing the car park, loud conversations can be heard, but not clearly / Room doors don’t soft close and slam (can be heard from the bed) / Having to use a key card to access the room floor during the day was irritating / No fast check-out option / TV remote was missing backing on both occasions / TV system is clunky and a nightmare to use I rate this hotel… a bit… meh! I think the rooms are a lot better than the Jury’s Inn, and if you can deal with the general shoddiness, I’d stay here rather than at a Jurys / Premier Inn.

Derby
|2.85km from city centerI was staying with a friend and we'd booked a twin room. We were given a king size bed with a small single (converted couch). Although the mattresses on these tend to be much thinner than the main bed, this mattress was rather worn out and I ended up sleeping rolled into the king size duvet. When I mentioned this in the morning at reception the lady there handled my complaint professionally and arranged for an alternative room. When returning in the evening a colleague at the desk was fully aware of the situation and provided the keys to the new room. In the room we found two very comfortable single beds, a Sorry card (with a hand written note) as well as some chocolates..! This was not expected but very much appreciated. I had a wonderful sleep and easily forgot about the less agreeable bed the night before. I was also informed as to what to do for a next time when booking a twin room so that the hotel could try and provide a similar twin room. Excellent service and I'll definitely be back.Thank you!

Derby
|0.9km from city centerFirst room allocated and the tv didn’t work but staff kindly moved me to another room. Unfortunately the next morning at 8:30am there were workmen in the corridor replacing the ceiling tiles so there was loud hammering, drilling and sawing. The hotel manager refunded me 1 night stay but I don’t understand why they would use the rooms if there was repairs going on. Leaving the room I had to step over paint pots and tools.

Derby
|1.4km from city centerLovely experience as usual. Always stay here hand I go up for the football due to the location. The rooms are always really clean although they could do with a bit of TLC. The staff at the reception are always lovely. The breakfast was pretty good and it’s included in the cost as well. The only reason I can’t give this a 5star is due to having to pay £5 a day to park my car.

Derby
|0.21km from city centerHaving stayed at the hotel four times over recent months for business, I cannot recommend it highly enough. An exceptional team of staff, led by Aggie, do all they can to ensure that your stay is comfortable and, in the context of a business visit to the City, efficient and effective. The early check-in facility has always been made available, which has really helped in scheduling meetings throughout the day.

Derby
|0.16km from city centerArrived to find no aircon in room and a tiny fan on the desk. When asked could I change room, they said that all aircon was broken, and their contractor was due to come and fix it next month!!!! I left immediately to find an alternative hotel. 1 hr later my colleagues arrived to find not only the same aircon issue but rooms which had not been cleaned at all. Utter shambles, avoid at all costs.

Derby
|1.1km from city centerits really hard to know where to start with this review so I will start from arrival. Car park - grim, but thankfully free at the moment. Check in- friendly and quick, really cant fault the ladies on reception. Lift out of service. Allocated a room on the second floor, not really a problem, I had called and asked for a room with access to both sides of the bed as I am only too familiar with best western selling rooms as doubles but really only fit for S/O. Great room given but a bit of a trek from reception when carrying luggage and a dog. The building is big and old and understandably has been empty for a few months but the smell of awful air freshener was too much. Our room was traditional but well appointed. View from window - grim. Heat unbearable. We had a problem with our room, somewhere there was a continued leak and what started of as a damp patch, on the carpet on one side of the bed turned in to a full puddle that spread to the other side of the bed. We voiced our concern but unfortunately there was no room swap to be had due to the hotel being at capacity. Thankfully we brought slippers but they ended up sopping wet and not fit for purpose. There is a small enclosed garden, nice enough to sit in with a drink and to walk our dog around. Big ant nest saw us soon return indoors though. No where for us to eat having a dog with us but that is the same at many hotels sadly. Bar prices ok but avoid the bottled beer. totally over priced. Sleep disturbed many times by what we could only think was clunking pipes. on check out the receptionist offered a bottle of wine for all our problems, it was appreciated but nothing would make up for such a calamity filled night. Sadly I shall not return but again the staff were great.

|2.03km from city centerThe location is ideal for Derby centre and surrounding area, my trip is mainly business and I always look for value for money and comfort, travel lodge have come a long way in recent years and staff have become very good at keeping the customer happy, this travel lodge ticks all boxes for me, welcoming, comfy rooms with everything needed and apart from the toilet roll holder being set very low, everything was set for a great stay, staff at this branch go out of their way to make a pleasant stay, Julia, Ellie and Emma should take credit for being great hosts and doing a brilliant job.

Erewash District
|8.41km from city centerLovely location, (pretty village) lovely grounds and impressive entrance. However, we weren’t in the main hotel. The room was large but old fashioned. The roof sloped at the sides which we banged our heads on several times. The window was small which made it stuffy and it was very dark, no main light in the bedroom only lamps. Bed was king size and comfortable. The room and bathroom was clean. We used the restaurant once for dinner and we had 2 breakfasts and the food was nice and reasonable priced. Breakfast was self service (as ours was included) with a good and plentiful variety. The staff were friendly and helpful but professional. We didn’t use the pool in the end as it meant going outside and back inside, as our room was not connected to a covered route to the pool.
Nothing really to complain about but we did expect the room to be a bit more luxurious. Slightly overpriced for the room. I expect the price was based on the available amenities.

|1.01km from city centerThe Stay Company in Derby is a very handy and nice place to stay. I stayed here when my house was being renovated and needed somewhere local, not too high a price but somewhere that I could be ”at home” in. If you wanted to do self catering, be home from home, in a clean environment (left alone and not hassled in anyway) with support if you need it - very local to town this is the place for you. Each room had everything you need (utensils, nice shower, microwave, cooker etc) and comfy bed. Can be like any other hotel be noisy at times but thats the clients not the company. Enjoy

|1km from city centerStayed for one night and was pleasantly surprised after reading some poor reviews. Adequate sized room with all the usual facilities including iron and ironing board, TV, tea/coffee and toiletries. Clean bathroom with lovely fluffy , white towels. Fresh milk delivered to your room on request. My only gripe was that the pillows were a bit too firm but that's personal taste. The room was quiet and we slept really well. A short stroll takes you directly into the INTU shopping centre. Parking costs £8 for 24hrs. We ate next door at Antibo the Italian restaurant which was lovely and quite busy. Couldn't really get any better value at £40 room only!
