Visited lovely Bergamo in april with five friends. Loved the city and the donizetti royal apt made this a special trip. Our hosts were fabulous and organised airport transfers in advance , in fact they were so helpful in giving us information on the city and local areas of interest. The apartment was central, fantastic, spacious, airy and spotlessly clean. It worked so well for us and would highly recommend it.

had one night stay after late arrival to Bergamo airport before going to Milan next day. It was walking distance to both old town (citta alta) and railway station, which was convenient. Room was reasonably well appointed, and so was the bathroom. Bathroom shower has issue similar to many other hotels - with shower controls located behind the showered - so one have choice of being sprayed with either cold or hot water (depending which tap one turn first). It was uncomfortably warm without any means to address this except opening the window. Sound insulation also hot great as one can hear what's going on in the room next door Breakfast was plentiful and absolutely worth paying for. Biggest inconvenience was the lift which is clearly small for the hotel of this size - as lift cabin size only allowed 2 person to fit, it created waits at the busy times. If price is right, I would not have any issues staying there again.

We stayed here one night before travelling upto the Lakes. Paid £70 for a family of four which I think was excellent value, which gained it an extra star!! The room was basic but adequate. The lady texted me on the day to confirm arrival time and I called her 20 mins before to arrange to meet with no issues whatsoever. Left the keys on the table the next day and everything was fine. I did ask if we could leave by 11 not 10 due to the train time but they wouldn't allow this, so a little disappointed by that. Great location, 5 mins train station and 10 mins the other way to the funicular. Overall would use again at that price for a one night stay, but wouldn't stay any longer than that.

My partner booked the Vacheron room (504) as a special treat to celebrate my birthday. It’s a beautiful room, nicely decorated to a high quality spec and with a stand-alone bathtub being a key feature and why we booked it. Sadly, the room runs on a a tiny 80-litre boiler which means that the hot water runs out before you even have the bath 1/4 full. We thought this was a problem with the boiler in our first night and the owner apparently called a technician the next day, explaining that the water should heat up again within 15 mins (as per the notice in the bathroom). We waited an hour on the first night (still no hot water) and then tried again with a bath in the second night, only for the hot water to run out again before there was even enough to sit in and cover yourself. Basically, the hot water boiler is simply inadequate to fill the bath, which essentially renders it useless. Even two showers after each other need to be very quick, it is such a small supply and takes much longer than the notice suggests to heat up again (more like 2 hours). When we explained this to the owner on the final morning (even sharing photos of how low the available hot water filled the bath) she simply said “you are the only one to have this problem” and the conversation became unnecessarily unpleasant where we were made to feel like we were the problem. If hot water is important to you don’t stay in this room. Otherwise, the room is nice although there are a few strange features (eg. a motion sensor in the bathroom that turns on all the lights when you go to the toilet and stays on for a few minutes, thereby waking everyone up). Overall, disappointing and we wouldn’t return again.

We are ancient e-bikers travelling from Dorset to Rimini and then Rome and then back home. Tonight we’re in Bergamo and tired of hotels smelling of disinfectant and full of 7 day stayers on half board so we opted for this BandB. It is an oasis of calm. An inner courtyard tranquil, silent, ancient and very comfortable rooms. Can’t tell you about the breakfast yet as haven’t had it yet! The recommended taverna down the road was perfect and so is everything about this place. Think they may be into yoga and meditation too but haven’t any experience to confirm. Happy days + nights!

once again on my recent trip to Germany and Italy i was pleasantly surprised by my accomodation and the facilities at the previously unknown to me, Arli Hotel, on my first visit to lovely Bergamo, IT my room was as requested on the quiet side of the hotel. the room and ensuite were quite stylish and immaculate . the bed was extremely comfortable and firm. staff were welcoming and informative. the large breakfast room was attractive and the buffet quite large and diverse i was given a complimentary drink in the comfortable bar which came with 3 little edible treats the hotel is well located between the rail station and the cog rail to Citta Alta

I stayed here for two nights on the advice of a friend who lives near Bergamo and while the price was more than reasonable, as a solo traveller I wondered if I should pick a cheap hotel. I'm glad I didn't. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was and remained a good temperature and the complementary breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of food options and a relaxed atmosphere. However, even if service isn't that important (after all, will you be spending much time in the hotel other than to sleep and for breakfast) the location is unbeatable with the funicular taking you to Citta' Alta a short, 3-5 minute walk away and the same time gets you into the heart of the shopping area of Citta' Bassa. When I return to Bergamo I will book here again due to the helpful staff and easy access to the main areas of the city.

We were traveling from North Italy back to Milan through Bergamo and had a night here before continuing our journey. Needed a place to sleep in order to see the Citta Alta. It is about a 20 minute walk to the fenicular, which wasn't too bad, and was nearby lots of cafes and restaurants. The room was relatively clean and new, but the problem was that the entire first floor was freshly painted, and still smelled like paint. The smell was unbelievable in both the room and the hallway. Our room did not have windows, but did have a door that opened out to a balcony. The balcony was connected to all the other rooms, so we did not feel comfortable leaving it open for the room to air out during the night while we slept. Even so, the air coming in from outside smelled largely like smoke, either due to other smoking rooms on the first floor, or smokers from the (very loud) restaurant nearby. We mentioned the paint smell to the front desk, and were very rudely received. The staff on hand said only that there were no other rooms available, and did not offer anything that could help the situation - maybe some matches, candles, air fresheners - anything to block out the overwhelming smell. Mostly just stood there looking at us until we went away, and ignored all our requests. Woke up with a pretty intense headache after having inhaled paint fumes the entire night. I don't understand how they could have continued to rent out the rooms so soon after a fresh paint job, or at least not aired out the rooms completely beforehand. Also there was a very creepy picture of a rich young boy in the room.

Boutique hotel in Bergamo new town, round corner from main shopping street. Old town walkable, though up hill so taxi might be advised. Old building tastefully renovated and modernised in largely 1920s style. Very charming. High-ceilinged generous bedroom, with excellent modern bathroom. No street noise at all. No parking at building, but owner liaised with us, parked and returned car to us, although parking does cost extra and is a little bit steep. Breakfast possible outside in charming courtyard. Delicious eggs benedict a house speciality. Owner managed, and owners couldn't have been more helpful. Would definately stay again if in Bergamo, and Bergamo is stunning...

I have never been treated in such a terrible and humiliating way in a hotel in my entire life, even though I travel regularly for work and pleasure and I stay in all sorts of hotels, including allegedly four star hotels such as Best Western Hotel Piemontese. Without any notice or information, I was thrown out of the hotel with my 3-year old son, my luggage and personal belongings having been packed into trash/laundry bags that awaited me at the reception desk after my return from a day out. The receptionists alleged I had inflicted damage to the room and was denied access to the hotel. They did not explain the nature of the alleged damage. My son did pee accidentally in the night in the bed (which was protected by a mattress protection) and a bit on the floor. I took the bed sheets off to dry. I cannot see how this would amount to any damage and even if, there are polite ways to address this kind of matters with the customer rather than throw them away and pack and throw their very personal belongings in plastic bags. I was denied any opportunity to discuss with the hotel manager and I was shouted at by extremely rude reception desk staff. Needless to say, I was offered no assistance in relocating to another place, and this on a rainy December night (with a kind and luggage). Thanks to this experience, I will never ever stay in a Best Western hotel again, and I will continue to strongly discourage my contacts and friends from booking a stay at the Bergamo hotel.

Pros : 1, Just one block away from Bergamo train station. 2, As located on side street, pretty quiet 3, Room spacious 4, Check in / out efficient Cons: 1, Room decoration dated and tired. 2, Supermarket is about 15 minutes walk away. The “in-house” food and drink counter only has limited choices Bus stop for taking bus to Citta Alta ( the Upper - Old Town ) is only a short walk from hotel. Bus is frequent and fare is euro 1.50. Journey is about 15 minutes to the top. Alternatively you can also get off half way of the journey and take the Funicular ( cable car ) to go up to Citta Alta. I would recommend this NH Bergamo Hotel.

Well, Hostels are mostly for singel travelers and I really appreciated this - cheap - accomodation. However I never expected such a level of service and accomodation. Everything what ingle traveler needs is here (probably for couples and families too) - common area with couch and place to sit (big, nice, tidy. Lot of books and TV) with hot water and tea - Breakfast included (and it is not simply breakfast as corn flakes): coffee, bread, ham and yellow chease plus sweets. - good location (long walking distance - aprox 5 km) in green area. Nearby a bus stop number 3 to old city - towel is available on reception (one per traveller) - friendly staff - big fridge with drinks for 1-2 euro Perfect view for downtown and citta alta. Definitely it is the best hostel I ever slept in.
