My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Marikoji Inn and had a wonderful stay! Check-in - Quick and easy. The Room - We booked the Kinkakuji suite, which was set up for 4 people since that was the default with the website we booked, but the owner quickly put away the extra beddings. This room was more than enough space for the 2 of us and could comfortably fit 4. The room was quiet and clean with plenty of toiletries and towels. The zen garden was peaceful and soothing. The inn only has a few rooms and the walls are thin, which makes for a quiet and respectful environment. The shower pressure in our room was a little soft as compared to our norm, but this led us to draw hot baths, which is actually much more relaxing! Location - The owner gave us a local map of nearby shops and restaurants. It's a short walk to the train station and bus stops that will get you anywhere you need to be. Walking distance to plenty of good food and shops, and a few temples/shrines. Service - Outstanding! The owners went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and give us ideas of what to eat and where to go. My wife mentioned that she wanted to get her hair cut and the owner was kind enough to walk with us to a local salon to introduce us to the stylist and interpret the details of the haircut. We also mentioned that we were interested in visiting shrines and temples to collect omamori (amulets) and she suggested some nearby shrines and temples that we could visit. I stayed here for four nights and it was the perfect base for a few days visit to Kyoto. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff is beyond accommodating and speak multiple languages. Handy phones are provided in the room so you can navigate the city without turning on your data while abroad. It feels like an upscale home stay, perfect for tourists looking for a traditional Japanese experience without the sometimes rigid formality. The ryokan is conveniently located to both train and bus routes in a quiet neighborhood near some beautiful temples. There are not as many restaurants near by but the Quatre Saison Boulangerie around the corner makes delightful little pastries to start off your day.FromUS$181.00

There is something very special about this place, perhaps flowing from the two sisters who own and run it. The vibe is calm and welcoming. The fact that one of the sisters is an interior designer explains the modern, charming, and relaxed decor. The lounge area where you enter is an all-purpose meeting, breakfast, happy hour, and hang-out area. If that sounds fun, it is! Nonetheless, not a party vibe, more a pleasant hangout with friends The rooms maintain the funky plywood and concrete design, and it works. The walls are pretty solid, so we heard noise from a neighboring room only once (noisy Italians!) Indeed, in general we have very peaceful sleeps. The shared bathrooms were very clean, and there were always enough that you never find yourself waiting. Clothes washer and dryer are also very convenient. Last, but not least, the location is great to explore Kyoto. Next to the north-south metro line, and within 30 minutes you can walk to many of the points of interest. Also connected to some nice bus lines to help you get around. It's close to the main restaurant and bar strip that runs parallel to the river (20 minutes on foot) but the area has some nice places too. It was my first hostel in 30 years, but I've got a feeling I will be back!FromUS$37.00

After 10 or so trips to Kyoto, I can definitely say Tsukito is one of the best values. This stately, tastefully decorated home with decades of history welcoming travellers is a glimpse into Japan that you simply will not get at a sleek hotel or modern apartment rental. The owner has transformed her grandmother's guesthouse into a piece of pre-war Kyoto subdued elegance, with a homey and family-like atmosphere. I definitely felt like I got to see a slice of Japanese art and craft history that is hidden behind closed doors and somewhat lost in the sands of time. Floor is creaky, and some areas have seen lots of use, but hands down I will be staying here again for sure. I would say this is romantic hotel for those people who value nostalgia, wabi sabi, stateliness, and the allure of the bygone. The hosts at Guest House Waraku-An were just so very friendly and lovely! They were more than happy to go out of their way to assist. Compared to the Air BnB we stayed at before Waraku-An, it was a much more pleasant experience with English speaking hosts who could help us work out which buses to take around Kyoto. The Guest House has so much charm. It's over 100 years old, so it is a bit creaky, however, it just adds to the character of the building. Initially, I was worried we would be too loud with our kids (9-year-old & 12-year-old), but it was fine, and the hosts were even happy to teach our 9-year-old daughter some origami. The common room is great. There is a traditional "Kotatsu" which is a heated table. There is a microwave, cutlery, and plates for guests to use, as well as hot water and tea & coffee. There are additional comforts, some of which can be purchased (Eg. Bicycle, earplugs) and some of which are free of charge. We did need to pay 100 Yen for the use of a towel, but considering the value of the rooms, we didn't mind. The hosts also washed a load of clothes for 200 yen, which we then hung up on clotheslines in our room. The shower and toilet rooms are smaller, but again, we didn't mind as the rooms are well priced. The rooms were also a fantastic size. Our family of 5 stayed in 2 rooms, one of which was the deluxe room with the garden view. I was worried it would be cold as the guest house is older, but it was actually quite cozy. There were reverse cycle air conditioners in the room, and gas heaters. The rooms were traditional tatami room, with a little table and makeup dresser. The location is fantastic. You can catch a bus west to the monkey park, or south to some of the famed shrines. There is a Family Mart "konbini" (convenience store) up the road, and what looks like a pharmacy but is a general store about 2 stores down.FromUS$61.00

This hotel is about a 20-minute walk from Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple. There are direct buses to Kinkakuji and Lanshan. 10 minutes walk to Nijo Castle. Kyoto Station is only about four stops from the hotel. All in all the location of this hotel is good. Room for two people was just right. The air conditioning and bath water were very powerful. The shower gel and shampoo are both POLA. So you do n’t need to bring any toiletries here. The room has a washing machine to dry and a microwave. Free coffee in the hotel lobby. Overall this hotel is very good.

Kyoto Station
Love this hotel! One of the best I’ve ever been. They’ve recently open in 2019 and it’s not very crowded here as there are a few hotels beside and The Thousand is just right connected to the Kyoto Century Hotel so if you are taking taxi, you would like to mention Kyoto Century Hotel and they will alight you right in front of The Thousand. It’s not only new, the amenities are so high tech even the toilet bowl cover automatically open up when detected. Undoubtedly, this hotel has a very nice, warm and homely feel. When you step right in, the woody lemongrass fragrance will make you feel so welcome! Most importantly, the hotel staff converse very well in English and are extremely kind and helpful and patient. It definitely deserves a 5-star rating! Everything is so perfect here that I wish I could have stayed longer in Kyoto!

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple
New Year 3 stayed at Kyoto Suite Twin 505 for 2 nights a day.
The location may be close to Gion, but there is no parking lot.
The nearest parking lot was a large Kyoteku Sanjo Keihan parking lot where more than 100 cars could be parked. Garbage was scattered and dirty, and it was very expensive. I stopped at 4 pm and put it out after 9 am for 4000 yen. I want affiliated parking.
The female hotel man at check-in in the evening does not feel good. The explanation is long and tedious, and even though I didn't carry my luggage, I got to the room from the check-in counter and there was a step in the room, so be careful. The explanation is long and annoying. It's hard to get out of the room, so I thought I was waiting for a tip.
I wanted to call a taxi, so I called out to the same person, but I laughed when I went out with him and tried to catch a taxi running on the road. I was told that the method would be the fastest to catch a taxi, but in the end I had to wait about 10 minutes under the cold weather. Even if you don't have to wait outside in winter, you can call me by phone as much as a taxi ...? ?? I felt that. I laughed at the fact that I was hit by a low-level hotel man, but I was very disappointed.
The bartender at the bar on the first floor was excellent in both skill and customer service, and the male staff at breakfast was also smart and humorous.

As for this hotel, I really have to praise it. I ca n’t speak English, I do n’t know Japanese. I went with my baby. The location of the hotel is especially convenient. It ’s close to the bus station. Follow Google. The route he recommends is not necessarily the most convenient. You can choose, it is closer to the hotel bus. I can remember the road once. After getting off the plane, I do n’t remember what tickets I bought at the airport, but I just entered from the ticket office, opposite, b. You can go to the front door of Uniqlo on the back of bus 104. There is a trail opposite Uniqlo. It is especially easy to find when you go in. The hotel service is really great. The first day check-in is a Chinese-speaking beauty. There is also a handsome guy who also speaks Chinese. The room I stayed in Osaka is not as good as this hotel. It is highly recommended, geographical advantage, and the room is clean. In Japan, this room is quite large, 29 inches, 22 inches luggage can I opened the two at the same time, I put the two beds together, and the side was very spacious. I came to Kyoto in the future and chose this one. It was a super happy trip

This is the best service hotel I have stayed in several times so far! A very gentle Japanese lady at the front desk, smiling all the way to the service, English is also good, helped us upgrade the room, and also helped us to send luggage to the room. During the chat, the children heard that it was a birthday trip. The next day we went out and saw a surprise! A birthday card, three-colored petals, balloon stars ... and cookies.! The child was so moved that he wrote a compliment letter and handed it to the front desk when checking out ... 5 stars praise, 6 stars recommendation

In close proximity to the Kyoto JR station, Isetan, Aeon amongst other shopping facilities. The room is decent in size and the concierge is helpful with making local restaurant bookings and providing travel recommendations, but bear in mind that it shuts pretty early so do approach the concierge earlier if you need help there.
