Dear travelers, the following is an honest and unbiased review of this Italian (Sardinian) Bed&Breakfast, which I had the pleasure of staying in this summer. In July I went on an exciting cruise around the western mediterranean sea, and at the end of my long journey, I spent 3 pleasant days in Cagliari, the capital city of Sardinia. About a 10-15 minute walk from the entrance of the cruise ship port, right along the main avenue of Via Roma, on an adjacent narrow pedestrian cobblestone street of Via Barcelona, you will find house/door # 10. By itself, this entrance does not look any different from any other entrance to a regular small coastal town apartment building, if it wasn't for a small placard sign to the right of this wooden door which says "Relais Del Porto", with some images of this hotel. To the left of the door, there are buttons for the door bells to the various tenants of this 4-level building. Press the one that is marked "Relais Del Porto", and after a short while you will hear a responce and then a buzzor will sound, after which you should push (hard) the door and it will open (whatch out for the step, it's not flat with the gound). Roght after you step inside that entrance way, most western (spoiled) travelers like me will at first be taken aback, and maybe even shocked as well as confused with what they see before them. There is no usual hallway, or lobby of a hotel, nor anybody who greets you to welcome to the place. There is an empty, lifeless, gloomy ground level of a seemingly abandoned building. At first, one might wonder if they entered the right door, or accidentally went into the wrong building by mistake. The paint on the walls around you is peeling off, the floor is plain cement, the doors are really old wood, the light is rather gloomy. But, be patient my fellow traveler - it get's more interesting (spoiler: it all ends up very good in the end!). As stated before - not a living soul around you to help/explain where to go from there. Furthermore, there is no elevator to be found anywhere. But, in order to reach some civilization, logic tells you that you need to proceed up the stairs a few meters away in front of you. So, me and my rather big suitcase prepare ourselves to climb the rather steep and ancient starwell. (It turns out that the B&B is on the last top level of this building, and there is only one way to get there - walk up the stairs with your feet). Sweating and panting, about half way up this starcase, I hear some noise from up above (door slamming, voices, and someone rushing down towards me). Soon, a nice lady appears in front of me, speaking only Italian and not a word of English, but with her gestures and emotions it is clear that she is there to greet me and welcome to the hotel. Furthermore, she right away offers to help me carry my suitecase for me (which I, being the gentleman that I am, refure to give her, but she insists, and so we both end up dragging my bag up the rest of those steep stairs). La Ghirlanda is a great place to stay! The couple who own it are a lovely couple: very warm and friendly. The room was cosy with a street view from the window and was a well made room. The local sweets which were offered complimentary in the room were a delicious treat and my mouth still waters remembering them :) I was on a business trip for ship inspection and had stayed for only 1 night. I wished I could have stayed longer. Wishing La Ghirlanda and the lovely couple many happy and successful years ahead :) Regards, Anant

Luigi is a retired chemical engineer from the Oristano region of Sardinia. His family still make wine from Vernaccia grapes in that area. He and his wife now run this charming establishment on Via Roma. They speak no English, but if you speak even a little Italian, Luigi will engage you in fascinating conversations. We were fortunate to be able to sample some of his family's wine aged for eight years in late-night conversations on our return from a day of exploring Cagliari. The hotel is charming, including an antique elevator the likes of which I hadn't seen since the ancient lift in my undergraduate library. The tiled floors are incredible - my wife has used the photograph of the one in our room as her computer wallpaper. The location is perfect for exploring Cagliari. The view from our room was stunning. What an incredible find!

This hotel is very nice and clean. The staff is extremely helpful. The location is excellent, very close to the city centre and all the main attractions and also with lots if buses just across the road (including to the lovely beach of Poetto) and 5 minutes walk from the train station. I liked the breakfast too. There was coffee, tea, milk, soy milk, juice, different types of sliced bread for toast, cake, biscuits. During the day you can also help yourself to tea, coffee, fruit, cakes... Lovely.

If I was in cagliari for a few days I wouldn't hesitate to stay again, but the rooms (and city to some extent) should be understood for what they are. Pros: Clean and spacious rooms. Built to provide natural shade and relief from the 30plus degree weather. Excellent central location, with great food nearby. The staff; Martina in particular was lovely! Good price. Cons: The street can be noisy, so lie ins or early nights would be difficult. If you are there solely for location I would suggest staying further out, or perhaps away from cagliari. The air con is not the best; that said we used it more for white noise as the rooms stayed reasonably cool on their own. And that is about it....there are not many hotels near by, but this was more than adequate. Summary: Light sleepers wanting rest and relaxation may need to had further out, but for those wanting to throw themselves into city life this is the perfect spot!

Great boutique hotel with an unique charm. The location is great, very central and full of lovely little restaurants to have some lovely food lunch or dinner. The hotel is very spacious, beautiful clean rooms with a great attention to detail. The host is really welcoming and made us feel really special. The breakfast is also delicious and has a great variety, from croissants to fresh fruit, from eggs and cheese. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the main attractions and must see places as well as the main shopping area. For parking the train station is about 10 euros a day, and is only few minutes walk. Again, great place to stay for your Cagliari trip!

On seeing us and realising we were about to enter for breakfast he quickly bent down picked up his lighter from the entrance step put in his pocket and wandered back to the centre of the street to continue smoking as we entered the breakfast room. We looked at each other and thought looks like bit of a dodger out there!# On looking around our hopes were immediately dashed we looked at each other and our hearts sank. A small table with absolutely nothing fresh all plastic packed all artificial very very limited choice of disgusting food including the dry toast bread, two small loaves of supermarket bread open, half used, both hard and dry, two warm cartons of supermarket juice, jug of water, three plastic containers of cereal, a few plain only joghurts, some plastic packs of sweet biscuits etc There were knives and forks by the way to eat the nice watermelon etc etc – HA-HA-HA AN INSULT TO US ALSO TO ITALY AND ITS FOOD No fresh fruits of any description just a small disgusting looking white plate containing tinned fruit salad in its artificial syrup No fresh breads, paninis, pancakes, cakes, biscuits etc No cheeses, mozzarella, proscuito, cooked ham, mortadella etc No hard boiled eggs, no tomatoes No hot choices No proper chilled fruit juice selection# Well this guy as we were to find out some minutes later after the cigarette was finished was actually “the breakfast person” who came in stinking of smoke hands unwashed breathing all over us hands unwashed delivering the hot drinks we ord

The Miramare is not a hotel but a B&B pension that is located in the 3rd floor of an apartment / office building. There are partly other B&Bs on other floors of the same building. Acceeding the 3rd floor with luggage in the moment of arrival is a sportive challenge because the small elevator only works if you have a key which you receive at the reception which is on the 3rd floor. So, if you don't want to leave your luggage unattended in the entrance of the building (which you shouldn't as this is the very busy harborfront street), you have to carry all the luggage up the stairs to the 3rd floor yourself. Our room was so small that there was practically no space except for the bed. No space to store and unpack the luggage properly. It must have been a former servant's room of the flat. The window showed to a narrow courtyard which was full of air condition machines that made so much noise night and day that you couldn't open the window at any time. The courtyard, or slot, was so narrow that you could almost touch the opposite windows. The breakfast buffet was already eaten up by a hungry family before we arrived and was not refilled, although we arrived more than an hour before the closing time. The worst thing however was the cheaty and uncommunicative behaviour of the management: When we left, we received a closed envelope, the receptionist saying "all is settled already, you're all fine, no further payment necessary". As we are not suspicious persons and were eager to continue our round trip, we had no doubts, took the envelope and left. When I checked my next credit card invoice after returning home, I saw that Miramare had booked off 100 € too much for the night, obviously a mistake as I thought. They had no signature for the too high amount, it was a clearly unauthorized charging. I wrote to the hotel by email right away but received no answer. I wrote again several times but received no answers again. Then I called the hotel by phone. The receptionist, an older gentleman, said he would look into the case and would call back, but he never did. Some days later I called again, the same receptionist just said "I cannot help you". I asked him who could help me and what I could do further to get our money back, he only repeated "I cannot help you.", again and again, like a machine. Each time I called again, the same repetition "I cannot help you." Once when I called, I had another receptionist on the phone, a young lady. She said she knew my case and she would help me, she would call back in 10 minutes, but she never did. When I called again, the older gentleman was on the phone again. I told him that the young lady promised to call back and that I would like to speak to her, he repeated only "I cannot help you". Every time I called, I asked for the manager of the Miramare of course. Again the same answer "Nobody can speak to the manager, I cannot help you." This was the spookiest experience I ever had travelling. Days later I had a

Good things about the hotel: the sea view. The hotel looks very old,the entrance looks like a high school, and indications aren't clear. We got a sea view room. The rooms is basic, no fridge inside, not much furniture and need to be renovated. The bathroom was ok. Wifi doesn't work and you need to get a code from the reception to use it, and it doesn't work anyway. I used my data all the time. The reception staff is very bad, at the check in they didn't give us any infos, and sometimes they are not there so if you need something it's your problem. The phone in the room didn't work so we couldn't even call them. The worst part was the breakfast. They say it's included but what you will get it's only one croissant one coffee and a juice. When I asked for more croissants for me and my boyfriend, they said I would have to pay for it. But there is no other food so we were starving and obviously wanted more croissants. I arrived at 8 and was told breakfast didn't start yet. Big lie, cause it starts at 7. They don't even give a price of bread and salami.. it's very basic, they should explain that at the check in or before the booking. I met other guests that were heaving the same troubles and they tried to charge me 10 euros for a plate with salami and cheese. The private beach of the hotel is basically just rocks and it's horrendous, dirty, and the other part of the public beach is busy and loud. If you want a sunbed they will charge you a lot (13 euros per day). There is a restaurant beside which is not related to the hotel and that's a big plus, they are amazing, polite and they atmosphere and food is great. The hotel has a bar which is expensive, and it closes at 7 so if you wanna go for drinks forget it. A big plus is the guy of the massages mr gavino. He is cheap, professional very polite and honest. And would listen to all your requests. If you walk up to la pailotte restaurant you will find another rocky beach but it's clean and so cool to go diving in it, from there we seen the dolphins too, it was very nice. I can't reccomend this hotel, we came here for our anniversary and it was very bad, the second day the 2 restaurants around were fully booked so we had to order a pizza, otherwise the hotel doesn't offer any alternative to eat they don't have a bar or something open at night.

Cagliari is not of the most famous towns in Italy. Despite many travels to Sardinia, we had never been there. We had a business meeting yesterday so we decided to try Palazzo Doglio. If this place was in a touristic town, the rates would be much higher but, at the moment, they are surprisingly affordable. The palazzo is splendid, bright and luxurious. The location is a bit “in the middle of nowhere” but it’s just at 10 minutes walk from the Centre and, once all the restaurants in their courtyard will be open, the place will be a destination in itself. Unfortunately due to Covid rules the spa was closed. But it looked beautiful. The “hard” is definitely a Leading Hotel. Some details of the “soft” have to be improved but it’s true that this difficult period affects everything (reception not super outgoing and also always in their mobiles, no one use your name, no one has escorted us to the room neither explained the hotel service - they will sell them better - , no turndown - but for the rates that’s understandable -, the food in the restaurant was ok but not wow). Andrea the Maitre d’ is a star and he really made our stay: proud of the place and it shows! We would go back!

There are many places that I like around the world, but quite a few where I've felt like home. Regio Maison du Charme was one of those places where I felt like I belonged and from where I will get tons of interior design inspiration for our new apartment. Ever since I've entered the building, I couldn't help but noticing the beautiful marble stairs and floor and how they were contrasting with the glass modern elevator. Then entering the living room you get a really calming and cozy vibe from the amazing scent covering the whole apartment and the really good lounge music. I find that the apartment is the perfect combination between old and new, classic and modern. The furniture and accessories are really carefully selected and actually really my taste. I loved also our room, that looked very classy with that unexpected orange metal stair case, leading to a living room and dressing room area. My favourite part of the apartment was the kitchen/breakfast area. The light was just perfect, the room super big, but still cozy and that long table really won me over. Would love to have breakfast there forever. The apartment is situated in a great area, filled with restaurants and pubs. Loved strolling around the cute colourful streets and also take some walks to the port, that is really close.

Location was ideal, especially if it's your first time in Cagliari! This property is modern, newly renovated and lovingly appointed with all the up-to-date amenities (wireless Bose sound system in each room, for instance) to make one's stay very comfortable. AC in each room and individual bathrooms with showers a big plus. The rooms are unusually spacious for accommodations in medieval Sardinia, also great! We took the entire rental property for three people and it was perfect. Great for couples too. There are three bedrooms in this property with a shared kitchen, to be clear. Luca, the owner, is attentive, friendly and available. He's a mere Whatsapp away, even if he lives across town. He was there to make sure that everything was in order any time we needed. You are in the heart of the medieval castle walls in this property. Step outside the front door and you practically spill onto a beautiful cathedral plaza and can explore on foot, so easily, from there. I would stay again. A very good experience.

Hotel Aristeo was the last stop on our 2-weeks trip through Sardinia and definitely one of the nicest hotels of the vacation! The interior is well designed and the room and bathroom was very spacious (e.g. two sinks, large shower cabine, extra sofa, space for suitcases, lots of storage surface, three small balconies, etc etc etc). Noteworthy is also their attention to detail, the room was perfectly clean and amenities were eco/environmentally friendly. We forgot to take pictures of the room but it was as pretty as on the management photos. The staff is also super friendly and helpful. They gave excellent restaurant recommendation and even sent our postcards for us. As we had to leave early for the airport, they prepared a perfect take-away breakfast for us. We were very happy with the hotel and highly recommend it!
