I came here in November 2019. I do understand that there was a big storm a couple of month ago and that it might have caused severe damage to the hotel. But in that case the high rate was not justified. There were no windows in the floors and it was wet everywhere, the wind was blowhing through the hallways and the entire building was just run down. The staff was also kind of awkward... but this might have been because as a gayjin your ususally not treated "normally" in Japan. Anyhow, i chose the hotel because it was close to the dive location i wanted to see. But the hotel itself was rather not so good. Also the food was not really recommendable. If your not into (fishy tasting) fish, then its a no-go for you! But to be fair the rooms were big. For japanese standard. But as said: pretty rund donw.

Lovely resort, with an amazing location at Taibusamisaki Nature Park! It's quite far from the train station with not many dining choices, but there is a complimentary shuttle bus which corresponds to the train and bus schedule. The hotel is in the nature park and very interesting to hike around the area. There is a visitor center right before you reach the hotel but no maps or information in English, although the staff is very friendly. The room we had was a Japanese room where the staff comes in and makes the futon bed on the floor for you. Very beautiful and comfortable. There is a fridge, a hot water kettle, and tea making set, but get some coffee at reception if you prefer that. After hiking, we enjoyed the deep soaking tub in the room, or if you prefer, a Japanese outdoor bath is available for guests. Yukata cotton kimono is provided for relaxing in the room or around the hotel except in the restaurant at dinner time. Unfortunately, the room temperature was not adjustable, so it was a little warm for us. Also, the third floor where we were was a smoking floor so it smelled quite strong in the hallway. Fortunately our room smelled like tatami, which is like fresh grass. Excellent breakfast was included in our rate. It was a very authentic Japanese breakfast with local springtime seasonal dishes like pumpkin in peanut sauce, and fresh bamboo shoots. Many western choices also such as ham, sausage, eggs, and pastries. Overall very good experience for those who enjoy the challenge of navigating without many resources in English.

I've now stayed here twice and both times have been amazing. Chikurakan has different room types available. My first stay was a traditional room with mattresses/futons layed out after dinner. The next stay had that available plus a standard king size bed. Both rooms had an private outdoor onsen/bath and shower. They are totally private and it's so nice to bath on your own little area. The food at Chikurakan is amazing. Traditional Japanese dishes with primarily seafood. I cant say enough good things about this hotel and will always stay here when i am in the area.

A traditional-style older hotel, our 3-person room was a little cramped. But the in-room onsen was a big plus, we could enjoy the sunrise over the ocean from our bath. The Top-Floor Outdoor Baths were clean & modern with a great view. The other "Garden" Mineral Hot Springs was a hinoki bath with a relaxing area. It says "pool" but this is not an indoor swimming pool, it is a kids' wading pool. The food was very good giving choices of entree, then a huge buffet for side dishes, and a great creme brulee for dessert! We enjoyed our morning onsen and my husband could enjoy fishing in the ocean. The posted prices are higher than I remembered so shop around for a good deal.
