0.33km from Shuka San San-TeiEasily walkable from Okayama Station. Cross the street, down the shopping arcade, second left and there you are. Use the simplified map on the official website as a guide. The station itself is depressingly bland, but it’s a major transport hub (especially for rail services crossing south to Shikoku) so there’s a good range of options for shopping and dining. For more basic needs, there’s a Family Mart (convenience store chain) on the same street a couple of blocks away. Typical Toyoko Inn - if you’ve seen others in the chain, you’ll have some idea of what to expect here. Small but well-kept room with all the essentials, including an ensuite bathroom. (The tub is quite small, but I have no use for tubs; showers are all I need.) Bear in mind that the hotel (indeed the Toyoko chain as a whole) caters in large part to white-collar chaps on short business trips, as opposed to leisure travellers; you won’t find a gym or pool or other facilities of that sort here. And if one keeps in mind that the nightly rates are on the low end of midrange for Japan, the facilities seem fair for the price-point. Basic breakfast in the morning, mainly Japanese style (rice etc.). Starts at 0700, which is a little late for me personally - I like taking very early train services - but might suit others. Will gladly stay again.
