Breakfast is very good. The chef orders it now: omelet, shredded cheese, vegetables, mushrooms, etc. It's great. Other kinds of bread, fresh juice coffee tea. Meat has sausages, bacon. Peach apple, cantaloupe, pineapple and other fruits, a kind of Danone fruit yoghurt. All in all, including early value

Upon arrival the hotel is very well decorated and modern, exactly what you expect from a 4* establishment. There are two places to eat which are reasonable. The receptionist on arrival was reasonably polite although didn’t have any enthusiasm in her customer service. The room is a decent size, well decorated and the bathroom lovely also. This is where the good points end. The bed is solid. Much like laying on a wooden table. The pillows were thin and solid too. I tried everything to get to sleep, laying on top of the duvet, rolling my pillows in half to plump them etc. I couldn’t. Staff were banging around in the staff lift at all hours and the sound proofing between floors and adjoining rooms is so bad you might as well share the room with the people either side of you. I explained the appalling situation and sleep I had to reception in the morning who told me the mattresses are new so that can’t be right. I was shocked that she was implying I was making it up! Never the less she told me she would ask the maids to put a mattress topper on for me and get new pillows. I was happy with this solution. I got back and nothing had changed apart from new pillows. The new pillows were great and should be in every room as an option. Nothing was done with the bed. I laid down and tried so hard to get comfortable but couldn’t so went to reception once again. I was told that I was a princess and that there was nothing left to do apart from pile up lots of duvets to lay on, but perhaps it wouldn’t work as clearly in like the princess and the pea. I was incredibly hurt and appalled by this comment and decided to leave as I explained that it wasn’t safe for me to have no sleep for a second night and drive 4 hours home the next day. Upon emailing management I was told that they did all that they could and dealt with me in the correct way and that I wouldn’t be entitled to any money back for the night I didn’t stay or the disturbed night sleep that I attempted to have. I will never stay here again.

An excellent value hotel. I stayed midweek so cannot comment on what things are like at the weekend regarding guest’s behaviour mentioned elsewhere hereabouts. The room and public areas are clean, well decorated and perfectly acceptable. Reception was seamless and friendly. Quiet at night and bed very comfortable so slept well. All-in-all excellent value and centrally located. Oh, and free parking too! Now my new choice of hotel when in business in Birmingham. I’ll be back.

A hostel that absolutely cannot be faulted given the cost. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, free coffee and tea are provided until the common area closes, breakfast is provided and storage for baggage is available for just a £5 deposit. In spite of the surrounding area looking a tad seedy, there was never a moment inside the hostel where I felt unsafe or uncomfortable.

Superior location. The hotel has good facilities. In front of the gate is the river. It's safe, too. I do a lot of running in the morning. Next to it is a new shopping mall. Later, I found that there are many noodles to eat. You can also see the scenery outside. Very good.

My aunty had booked me into Staybridge Suites Birmingham for 3 nights using her reward points (this is allowed according to IHG reservations), my name was added under the "Additional Guest" field. I arrived late to the hotel and proceeded to check in. I was asked for the name under which the reservation was made, I confirmed my aunties name and mentioned that my name was also in the booking. He then asked me for government issued ID, I showed him my passport - This was the first time ever I have been asked for government issued ID whilst staying in hotels within the UK (being a frequent traveller, I have stayed in many hotels). He then informed me that I was NOT ALLOWED TO CHECKIN because my aunty was not with me despite my name being on the booking. He said she would have to send an email, this was around 10pm saying I be allowed to stay. I then asked to speak to the manager who confirmed that I would not be allowed to checkin under the booking despite my name being on the booking. I also asked if I could contact member services and if they stated I am allowed to checkin would that be honoured, they both implied "we are running this place and don't care". I offered for them to pre-authorise an amount for the whole stay from my credit card, I also offered to be allowed to checkin for 1 night and return in the morning to sort this out; as I was extremely shattered. He said I could only stay if I made a NEW RESERVATION. I asked him what about the cancellation of the previous booking so that the points can be returned, he said a full refund will be provided, due to COVID-19 rules are currently relaxed. However, he stated that he was unable to cancel the stay, which could only be done by IHG member services. I told them that they had made me feel extremely unwelcome, they did nothing to make things better. I made a new reservation for 1 night and checked into the room. I arrived in my room and called IHG member services whom again confirmed that I should be allowed to checkin. I told them what had happened, whom then said that the first night will be chargeable to cancel the reservation. I then asked them to contact the front desk, finally they agreed to a full refund. After which, I called the front desk again to tell them. The night-manager said that he was not bothered about me complaining. It feels like the 2 men were subcontractors who don't care about the business. They told me that they have had people book under others name and committed fraud. Does it really mean that you drop your standards if you had fraud and think every brown person is going to rob you? Nothing was sorted in the night and they asked me to speak to the morning colleagues. In the morning, I was met by an extremely nice lady who helped me in all aspects of my stay from breakfast to late checkout. As well as making the gym available to myself and arranging a meeting with the guest relations manager. The guest relations manager and her colleague at rec

The care of the guests by staff in this hotel was great. It needed to be. As a person with a mobility issue, I booked an accessible room. The room I had was not very clean and the bed was under the window. The room itself had two concrete outside walls and was not easy to heat. It was freezing cold - warmer in the corridor... In the dining area, the food was on an raised level. The platform for getting from the floor to the food area was obscured by the food rack for dirty dishes etc so couldn’t be used without disrupting the whole breakfast area. Access was by a set of steep steps. No secure area in the room for meds. They had significant issues with room temperatures. Many people need access in a hotel - with heavy luggage, pregnancy, buggies, small children and those with mobility disabilities. I was assured this is being reviewed. In my case, I got moved to another room and given an extra heater. The room was warm and clean. It was like being in a different hotel! It had a walk-in shower, which was ok for me, but not a wheelchair user. I have to say that the staff on duty during my stay really did try to help and make my stay comfortable and did discuss issues I had. On the plus side, it has great wifi.

Amazing trip to Staying Cool with dinner provided by the brilliant folk from the Wilderness Restaurant. All the food was excellent - so it's hard to select a favourite dish. Suffice to say, I asked for all the recipes! Not only did we have a magnificent dinner, but a perfect restorative breakfast was also brought to us the next morning. The rooms are lovely, clean, comfortable and great attention to detail. And the views from the 20th floor of the Rotunda are spectacular. The Staying Cool staff were friendly, helpful and always on hand when we needed them. Can't wait for my next trip there.

It may be corona-government guidance, but the experience fell short even for a budget hotel. I liked the modern interior in the reception, and also in the room. It was clean. Certain elements such as food ordering had been changed, and we were to ask for the coffee sachets, disposable cups etc at reception, but kettle still in our room. Food was ordered via an app. The kitchen had closed by our arrival, and the next day we did not bother. In the room, there were two pillows, and a spare, which I was tempted to open from its plastic bag, as one pillow to sit up right is not enough. There were only one other chair in the room. The tv small, but generally I think standard hotel room size. No fridge or cooler, no safe. The bathroom had two bath towels, and a floor towel but no hand towel despite the corona-guidance to wash hands frequently. No hand sanitiser to compensate. Hand soap and shampoo in wall-mounted dispensers. No conditioner, or other free-bees. I asked for an extra towel, as I wanted to wash my very long hair, and it was declined. I did not wash my hair until I got home (weekend away) due to this, and I did not feel clean. On the Saturday they did when asked changed my towels, but I had to wait 1 hour to receive these, despite having been asked to put my dirty towels in the laundry basket. Luckily I had a kleenex to wipe my hand after hand wash as no tissues other than economical eco-toilet tissue in the bathroom. The room served a purpose for sleeping, nothing more. Well having said that the door slams very loudly, and it is impossible to take a nap during day as the noise from cleaner hoovering, etc, doors slamming etc... and no, there were no ear plugs. The room was warm though, and the curtain dark enough, but not dark room, so bring eye mask if light sleeper -and ear plugs! It could just have been the location of my room on third floor in the middle. At least the stair case and lift were separated by a fire door, for which I would give this hotel a star for as even exclusive hotels fails to separate lifts from the hall way. Sleep well and enjoy your stay.

the good: - the location is as central as you can get -reasonably priced -friendly and helpful reception staff - great breakfast buffet - late check out (12) - room had hairdryer, fan, toiletries as well as the usual stuff - nice and quiet - 2 restaurants and bar onsite which you can order 24hr room service from -fairly clean the not so good: -very dated and tired inside rooms, in desperate need of a refurbish -Bathroom could have been cleaner - breakfast buffet needed topping up more often as a lot of things ran out The main problem during our stay was room service. We ordered dinner and after waiting an hour called back to be told they'd lost our order which was pretty disappointing. We ended up ordering food via Deliveroo to the hotel reception. Other all I would give the hotel another chance and stay again when we plan another trip as the location, breakfast, late check out and quietness all make it worth it for us but probably wouldn't order room service.

Very satisfied with the second stay, the hotel facilities are clean, safe and secure, the breakfast environment is good, the food is rich, the first time the waiter gave the child a small gift. The location of the hotel is good, there is a supermarket near the hotel, the hotel is 5 minutes from the right to the canal, the bar is full of dining, the night view of the canal is beautiful.

I stayed there for work between 7-16 March, covering the annual All England Badminton championship. I received the most superb service from every staff at the hotel, from reception to the restaurant to cleaning, they were simply amazing. I have lived as a foreigner in the UK for the past 15 years, but the hotel hospitality surpasses any that I have stayed. One particular reason why I was so impressed was the fact these hotel staff did not treat any of us Asian (Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc) guests any differently, at a time when Coronavirus is causing racism everywhere. Back home in Japan, I believe a hotel there started to create a "Japanese only" floor in order to keep foreigners away to minimise the risk of contracting the virus, and caused a big uproar. I was wondering if it was a burden on the hotel staff, but no, none of the staffers showed any such prejudice against me who looks blatantly Asian (North Asian, that is) and also, the level of service was superb. Every query and requests were dealt with promptly and in the most friendly/warm manner. I would recommend Jurys Inn Birmingham to any future traveller without any hesitation. Thank you for making this stay such a pleasant experience for us.

What saved this visit was the breakfast. Excellent egg station and great variety. Bar is OK, and food in the restaurant is passable. Rooms are average and the location is brilliant. Nothing exciting about this hotel, just a good solid Hilton. Not sure what I was told is an upgrade was actually one. Still - for a short business trip this is perfect. If are are torn between the Hampton up the road on Broad Streed and this one - the Garden Inn wins hands down.

More suitable for business travel, the room is too ordinary, just ordinary express hotel, buffet breakfast is also very average. The hotel does not have free parking. You can park in the opposite mall, but the parking fee is about 20 pounds. It is better to set the crown next to it and also bring free parking. I once lived in Canada on holiday inn and I feel pretty good, but really it is a lot worse. But the room is still very clean, it is enough for business trip

Had a brilliant afternoon with my bestie at the Arden hotel - wowcher deal for afternoon tea/leisure. Welcoming smile on reception and helpful direction to restaurant. We were early but got seated right away for afternoon tea by lovely waitresses who couldn’t do enough for us (at 1pm on 6th March so thanks to those on duty that day). So refreshing to have attentive staff genuinely happy in their work and so friendly. Afternoon tea absolutely delicious and plentiful and waitress offered to box up what we didn’t eat so we could take it home. Same happy helpful service at the leisure club reception and we enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna for a few hours. So relaxing and great value for money. Would definitely go again!
