My daughter and I stayed one night here after traveling to B’ham for a concert at Iron City. I’d looked into a couple of hotels that were within walking distance to the venue, but after reading some sketchy reviews decided we should stay a little farther away. The Redmont was perfect! It was a short, inexpensive Lyft ride away from Iron City, and we always felt safe. Our room was a little small, but clean and very comfortable. Room service was prompt, and the food good. The lobby area has pretty decor which my daughter enjoyed for photos. We would absolutely stay here again if our travel plans take us to Birmingham!

This is a very historic older hotel. It was built to be one of the grandest back at the turn of the 1900s with lots of granite, marble and such and it was very nice. Since it was before lots of electricity though, and before a lot of indoor plumbing, it means the rooms had to be adjusted and modernized. They have been modernized quite well and the room had plenty of outlets with charging ports and very modern facilities including an IPad at bedside to contact the hotel or make requests. The bathroom is now spacious and nice. But all the modernization comes at a cost and the actual size of the room is relatively small with all the furniture in it. I prefer a less fancy room with more space but again, it is purely a personal taste and my wife thought the room was great. The reception area was beautiful and the front desk staff was extremely nice and friendly and made us feel very welcome. He was clearly proud of his hotel and his city and it was nice to see. Parking is mainly by valet and they were quick and polite. Those were the good things. The not so good was that it was noisy. bright and the bathroom. Noisy - Whether it was people in the hall, other rooms or sirens going back and forth on the road, it was not a quiet place. We were 13 floors up and still it felt like the sirens and loud cars and motorcycles were right outside. Children and intoxicated partiers in nearby rooms were quite loud and easy to hear. Bright - even with the blackout drapes pulled, the sides of the drapes still let in a lot of light making it hard to sleep. It would have been simple to extend the drapes a few more inches past the window but that was not done for some reason. Bathroom - I am attaching pictures to show what I mean here. First, the door to the bathroom is colored plastic and does not reach the floor or the ceiling. More like the door on a public bathroom stall. Great if you are by yourself but with a spouse, significant other or even kids, it would be tough since you cannot latch or lock it. Perhaps it is petty but the shower gel, shampoo and lotion are all in bottles but the print on them is so small and in such an odd color that I could not read them without my glasses and I do not shower with my glasses. At the very least, they should put a clearly read label on each bottle at the bottom just saying "Shampoo", "Shower Gel" or whatever. Even after the shower with my glasses on I had trouble figuring out which was which. if you like historic places you will like this hotel. If you prefer comfort, you will probably not like it as much. So although I rated it a 3, please note that is just for my personal preference of comfort rather than historic or ritzy. If I were in Birmingham again, I would stay somewhere less expensive.

Only thing I can say about this property is that the rooms are spacious. Other than that, here is what we encountered: Guest services are the face of the hotel, you’d think you’d be welcomed but it was not a pleasant experience. 1. No warm welcome as we entered 2. Guy spoke so softly you couldn’t hear him and had to keep asking him to repeat himself 3. Never explained breakfast, pool or gym, 4. When asked where we parked, I got a very vague, to the left of the building. Well ok, On the street or is there a parking deck? Was told, as he waved a pen in the air, just drive between these two buildings and go park. 5. They had some sort of power surge and instead of explaining anything to us about what was going on, another gentleman was like follow me, I’ll take you to your room. I had no idea what floor or room I was even going to until I got to it. 6. I didn’t even receive any keys for the room said gentleman let us in. 7. When I went out to the patio to smoke, three tables had trash on them, and as I look over my shoulder, back in the right corner, a homeless gentleman was asleep and had propped the table up on its side. 8. The next morning as we were checking out, I asked a kitchen staff, excuse me ma’am, can I get a banana, she points to the general direction and in a rude manner says, “ there out”! And she walked off.

We stayed at the Tutwiler Hampton Inn and Suites for three days during a wedding celebration. First, the good. The hotel was located on the edge of downtown within walking distance of the museum of arts, the Civil Rights Institute, municipal auditorium. Second, the renovation of a former apartment building was done in a sensitive manner. Finally, I cannot say enough about the staff. Front desk was extremely helpful. Valet parking attendants were great and quick. Maintenance replaced a leaking toilet promptly. My three stars are due mainly to the staff. Now, the not so good. First, the renovations did not include the windows and when it is cold, we had to keep our drapes closed due to the draft. The heating could barely keep up. Second, the carpet in our room was torn. Next, one morning, two tour groups, several other wedding groups, and others showed up for breakfast on Saturday. So, there were no seats and the staff struggled to keep up. On Sunday, with the exception of one tour group, the same people were there as well as some runner for a marathon that morning. Again, seats and some breakfast items were scarce. It seemed to me that the front desk had not anticipated how a full hotel would affect breakfast service. Finally, it appeared that the only item changed on the breakfast menu was the meat. Yes, I would consider staying at the Tutwiler-Hampton again, because I am a Hampton fan.

You expect to pay a premium for a downtown hotel in a large city, but you also expect the location to be convenient and close to "the action." The high price was there (almost $200 a night) but not the location. It's on a rather desolate stretch of street not close to much, and mildly intimidating. Once inside the hotel, the service is good and the rooms are very nice--just what you would expect from a roadside Fairfield Inn--nothing special but just fine. I will say that the breakfast offering was the worst on our trip--a sad collection of little muffins and some granola bars on a little table opposite the elevator. They can do better than this. I'm not sure what the options are for other places downtown but I'd check them out before booking here. But if you decide to stay, you'll have a perfectly acceptable experience in your room and from the staff.

This property should probably shut down for a while to get its affairs in order. The room I had was downright DIRTY, and even after reporting it to one of the front desk members, and asking that a manager contact me about the state of the room, nobody did. The same person I reported the room to and asked to have a manager call me checked me out, and when I asked why, the person shrugged and said "I told 'em!!" Great. Thanks. I invite you to view the pictures I've attached to this review to see for yourself. Issues include, but are not limited to: - Dirty, crusty carpet at various points in the room - Yellow-ish crusty stain on bedspread (YUCK), I never ate anything on the bed, so goes to show you that they don't change them out - Leakage/spillage in minifridge area - DISGUSTING trash-filled jacuzzi in the pool area: cordoned off by yellow tape, and full of gross water and candy wrappers and fast food bags - Dead flies in and sticky substance in the windowsill - Greasy children's handprints all over the wallpaper - One of the drawers under the TV wouldn't stay shut, even with nothing in it - Dust CRUSTED on air intake louvers - White flakes on the carpet that stayed the same even after multiple servicings of the room. Shows they didn't even bother to vacuum - Warped carpet in the hallway - They only serviced the room every three days, but obviously one needs trash taken out more than that. Trashcans by elevator stayed full with SAME OBJECTS in it for more than 24hrs They offer a coffee station downstairs, but had zero accomodation for tea drinkers. I asked if they had a kettle for the room I could borrow, and the front desk agent said "Kettle?!!?" like they had never heard of such a thing. I drink Tea, as do many other nationalities. To not have any solution for tea drinkers as a purported international standard brand, and at one of the nicest hotels in the city seemed baffling. They only service the rooms "every 3 days," but they clearly did not change out the bed linen or vacuum the room even on the days they allegedly clean the room. Seems they just threw some additional towels in the bathroom and made the bed. They didn't even empty the trash cans, I had to leave those in the hallway (full) to have them emptied. On the second day, I asked the attendant on my floor for some room spray so I can at least freshen up the room, she gave a cursory look at her cart and said "It seem I don't got none on here" and went back to cleaning the room she was in. I left the property and came back over 4 hours later. She was still working on my floor and asked her again for the room spray. She still didn't have any. So, NONE of the rooms on that floor got sprayed at all that day!?!? She was also listening to some hardcore rap on her phone that had n-words and f-bombs flying. I had to go downstairs to the front desk to ask for the spray, which they then told me the attendants have on their carts. Since you only get "service" every fe

I am thrilled to shine a spotlight on this hotel! This place has been a lifesaver for me. My son has medical needs at UAB Hospital and the location is super convenient and perfect for us. Upon entering the hotel, the ambiance in the lobby is warm and inviting with its cleanliness and colorful design. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the outstanding manager Ms. Nina, Shantel, and the entire front desk staff who go above and beyond in taking good care of me. Customer service is on point! I always feel welcome and valued as a guest. In these uncertain times we live in, the hospitality is quite remarkable and it's a place that gives me peace of mind when it's time to book a room during the medical visits. Plus -it's a short walk to various restaurants like the bistro which I enjoy dining at before walking to the hospital. Super convenient indeed and I always get a comfortable night of sleep here. I'm also looking forward to the end results of some current renovations. I highly recommend this hotel!

This is a good location for access to the hospitals and UAB. Friendly staff. It is an unusual setup as it shares a reception desk with the Hilton Garden Inn. Breakfast was the usual fare but it was to go only due to the COVID situation. The outdoor pool is currently closed. The room is very large but bland. It could sleep up to six if you used the fold out couch. The bathroom is relatively small but I liked the walk in shower. The "kitchenette" includes a microwave, toaster, coffee machine, large fridge and dishwasher. Expect all the plates and cutlery to be in the dishwasher as they are washed after each check out. Parking in the car park is $12 per night with access using your room key card. Try and get a room away from the elevator as it has a chime that rings when the doors open and close. Perhaps it is deactivated during the night but not worth taking the chance. I am a Hilton Honors card holder so I use the Hilton brand hotels as much as possible. This is my second time staying at a Home2 property and I have been unimpressed on both occasions. Average overall.

I stayed here for 1 night and I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Birmingham. The hotel recently remodeled and they did a great job and I mean great. To start the bathrooms are fantastic. I stayed on floor 13 and had great water pressure. The glass shower was well designed with an adjustable height shower head. The rooms are very nice with a large mounted TV, comfortable beds as expected from Hilton and just nice furniture. I've see a lot of hotel remodels that are just so-so but whoever did this design hit a home run. The breakfast for diamond members was good even during COVID. Shoutout to Dexter at the front desk and the housekeeper on floor 13 on July 23rd for making special arrangements for a late checkout so I could take an important video call from my room. Bravo y'all!

The hotel was sharp and clean and the staff were excellent. When I checked in, I found that housekeeping had not cleaned out food left in the refrigerator by the previous occupant. I went to the front desk to make sure that the room was empty and if so, to have housekeeping clean the refrigerator out. The room was empty, but they moved me to another room. The manager was extremely apologetic, which I appreciated and I was not upset at all...as evidenced by this review. I liked the staff and the facility and recommended it to all.

I always stay at this hotel when I need to be in downtown Birmingham. It's very clean, modern, and a great location. There are special "Lysol" cleaning measures and labelled strips on the room door, tv remote and several surfaces detailing the extra measures. The room was spotless! Obviously with fewer travelers and the covid times, the breakfast is a grab and go and dinner is order and pick up with fewer choices. There are a few outside tables for dining on-site. The staff was very attentive to any needs or special requests. I encountered very few guests and actually only one on my floor so it's very quiet. Publix is a block away, several restaurants are within 2 blocks, and Railroad Park is less than a block. No fee for parking. Great beds!

This is a conspicuous hotel in the southern edge of Birmingham, near the city of Homewood and along one of the city’s primary connecting thoroughfares. There is a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in the lobby, but with some diminished service hours due to the Covid –19 pandemic. The same for the hotel’s pool, open on the weekend only, and without a hoped-for whirlpool I had noticed on some older pictures. It had apparently been filled with concrete and tiled over. Very disappointing. Also evident were diminished offerings for the breakfast buffet, barely worth the trip downstairs to fetch it. The atrium and its water features remain attractive, augmented by ample natural light through the ceiling and other apertures. My suite was quite roomy, as is typical at an Embassy Suites, outfitted with small refrigerator and a working desk. However, some hotel details were showing their age, especially the fixtures in the bathroom and some of the furniture in the sitting room. A nice feature was a sliding door opening onto a Juliet balcony, with an immediate view of only a business center parking lot, but a distant view of some of Birmingham’s southern hills. The location is convenient if not that attractive, with immediate proximity to charming Homewood, and nearby access to Vulcan Park, the downtown business district, UAB medical campus, and, in the other direction, suburban shopping and dining. In summation, a comfortable and clean stay for a long business weekend at a very good discounted rate.
