0.74km from Smoky's HouseMy son and I stayed at this Days Inn last week when in town to visit EIU, and I was very pleasantly surprised by this property. The property was obviously built as a motel, so I was a little concerned about what we would find when we got into our room. We were delighted to find that our room was extremely clean and well appointed. It was funny to me to see both very dated artwork and some of the newer Days Inn collateral pieces adorning the walls, but I feel like this is a positive and telling metaphor for this hotel in general - they have clearly made some updates to the property but also well maintained the things they were not able to change out. The beds were comfortable, there were ample towels and amenities in the room, and the furniture was fine. I was also pleased to discover that there was not a lot of noise from adjoining rooms, or when I was walking down the hallway. I was also impressed with the breakfast offering at the property. They had all the standards - coffee, juices, muffins, yogurts, and a couple of waffle stations. Waffle stations can be a pet peeve of mine when they are sticky or messy, and these waffle stations were extremely clean. They were not new, but the hotel has obviously done a very good job in identifying ways to keep their equipment in tip top shape. I appreciated that while I was sitting in the breakfast room, the front desk attendant stuck her head in several times just to make sure everything was clean and full. It is clear that the property is committed to providing an excellent guest experience, and that they take great pride in what they have. If you are in town for an EIU function, this property is the perfect location. It is walking distance to campus, and close to some of the local restaurants. We will definitely stay here again!
