Very good hotel at a good location. We occupied luxury room and were amazed. Brand new teak furniture with matching wood work, nice pictures around the hotel and room, brand new bathrooms with high quality fittings. It was very good value for money. Emails leading up to booking were promptly responded with all relevant details regarding price, cancellation policy, etc which made the booking easy. Well trained staff were always available to see our needs. Restaurant has a variety of tasty food, freshly cooked at reasonable price. Would recommend this to anyone without any hesitation.

Stayed here for 3 nights with a friend. We had a basic twin room which was very clean and perfect for our stay in Ella. Hotel is up a very very steep hill which cars struggle to get to the top of so wouldn’t recommend for those that have any struggle with walking. Staff all very friendly, hotel manager made us feel very welcome, gave helpful advice for things to do in Ella and gave us a detailed map on how to climb to the top of Ella rock. Breakfast was different everyday and very nice. All in all brilliant value for money!

We've got to stay in this hotel because the hotel that was usually use was sold out. However it was a great experience, The Aloft Grand is located on a slope and is being renewed. They have very cosy, modern and spacious cottages. The service is very good and attentive as well,as the kitchen is high class with an individual service. The pool was just finished when we arrived and as matter of fact we have been the first guest to use it :-)

We stayed in two different cabins during January 2020. There were some positives - a stunning view and lovely breakfasts that could be eaten while enjoying the view. We found the location to be good. Unfortunately we ran into some problems - One cabin had a cold shower the first night. The other had a faulty flush for the toilet. Both showers had very poor water pressure, making it challenging to wash hair. We weren’t given the WiFi password until the second night, despite requesting it. It was difficult to get help from staff during the day, though they did seem like very nice people. One cabin had an off-putting smell, possibly related to the toilet that wasn’t flushing well. The booking site we booked through indicated daily housekeeping, 24 hour front desk and "free private parking is available on site". We found none of those to be accurate.

How to reach It’s difficult to reach this place if you follow google maps. When you’re coming from Wellawaya in Wellawaya-Beragala A4 main road after passing Diyaluma falls and 203rd km post there’s a sign board for Nature Hub on your left hand side. This is a gravel road and you will come across the Nature hub in around 50 meters. Even it’s bit difficult, a low ground clearance car can also reach the place. You have to go around 200 meters to reach Living Heritage entrance. There are no sign boards indicating this place. There’re two black color large gates at the entrance with a guard room. Overall They will warmly welcome you and will take you to the lobby area. Hotel is situated in a 80 acres of private land. This is a private property with beautiful landscapes. The restaurant, landscaped ground, office and luxury suites are situated nearby. Swimming pool and the lobby situated near forest pavilions. Most of the 80 acres is forest and the unique thing here is that they got a private waterfall inside the property. They have a farm in which they grow vegetables and also got cows. It’s recommended to book at least 2 nights to enjoy the place. Rooms There’re three types of rooms namely Forest pavilions(5), Pepper garden cottage(1) and luxury suites(3) according to ascending order of price. Forest pavilion is situated in the forest, open type of rooms with few layers of curtains to protect you from insects. This is whole lot of different experience as you can truly relax here with nature. The view and the feeling is amazing specially in the mornings. Small bugs and insects around but won’t harm if you tightly close your curtains after around 5pm. Room and the bathroom is bit small for your liking and the linen should be more fresh otherwise there’s nothing much to complain. Pepper garden cottage is situated near the entrance and didn’t got an opportunity to look inside. There’re three luxury suits adjoining each other. The lobbies can be connected to each other if you staying with a group. Each suite has a verandah, lobby with tv area and open, bed room, bathroom and there’s an open shower and a jacuzzi behind. Activities If you’re staying here you must visit the waterfall. It’s about 10 minutes walk in the jungle to reach the top of the waterfall and around 20 minutes to the bottom. What’s unique is it’s private means nobody will disturb you. You should ask the staff for a safe place to bath. There’re hundreds of leeches on the way to waterfall so you should take precautions. They will provide a leech repellent and leech socks. There’re summer huts in the forest where you can relax and enjoy the nature. In the night they will arrange a nice bon fire in the ground. Food We booked a bread and breakfast package and dinner and lunch was served as a la carte. Food was great and served in sufficient portion sizes. They got both Sri Lankan and English menus. Staff Staff is friendly and helpful even though they might not have be

We had a decent stay at Ella Red Rock. We had booked a nearby property, but were redirected to this guest house on arrival. (It felt a bit awkward, but we rolled with it.) Room was clean, large and fairly comfortable. Staff were friendly and eager (perhaps a bit too much so... which is why it felt awkward when we were asked to stay here, rather than where we had registered - we were told it was the same owner...). Biggest drawback is the logistics of getting to the hotel. Our van could not reach, so had to rely on a tuk-tuk to haul up our bags (and some of our party). Rest of us had to climb a very steep, long set of stairs to the property (as well as nearby spots). It was slippery and uneven in spots. (We had to traverse the same path upon our return from dinner, which was tough in the dark - we needed flashlights to find the way). Ella is a funny spot, the places with some of the best views are a tricky to reach, and those in town are overrun with backpackers... Pick your poison, I suppose. We likely wouldn’t choose to stay in this area, again. The difficulty to reach the properties was not offset by the admittedly glorious vistas.

My husband and I spent a beautiful night at Renuka’s rest! We met Mike and Renuka in Ella while we were trying to figure out where to stay and what to do. To be honest, we were having a difficult time and Mike and Renuka came as our angels to rescue us from a difficult situation. They drove us to their beautiful property where we spent one night. To call this place anything short of STUNNING would be a total understatement. The views from the property are one of the best we have ever witnessed (and we are world travelers with over 40 countries under our belt across all the continents). We spent a beautiful evening doing yoga as the sunset and had a delicious dinner with our hosts. We rose early in the morning to meditate with the sunrise before going off to explore a cave and underwater lake nearby. We also stopped off at very secluded waterfalls near the property and had yet another unforgettable experience. Thank you Mike and Renuka for becoming one of the most unforgettable highlights of our trip through Sri Lanka. If you are looking to spend some time truly connecting with nature, away from crowds of tourists, look no further than this stay! Mike and Renuka are wonderful gems of the human race and we can guarantee that they will help bring peace, wonder, into your life!

The perfect place if you dont want to be in the centre of Ella. Green view cottage is nearby the centre (about 15 mins), but is in a quit and beautiful area. The view of our room was amazing! Nimantha and his grandparents are a lovely family who makes you feel like home. Every morning they make you a delicious breakfast and if you have questions or you will to do a tour; Nimantha can arrange everything you want. Because of the super delicious traditional Sri Lankan breakfast, we ate there in the evening as well. Nimantha has a menu with all type of differents dishes. De-lic-ious! If the room is available, don’t hesitate and book it!!

The wives from the room was priceless... We were not so happy when we got their first to see the room had 2 glass walls.. with just nothing other than glass ...but, we knew what it ment the moment we got up the very next morning..that panoramic view of the blue mountains from ur bed was unbelievably beautiful Last bit from the road can be bit tricky to drive at first with out a clear view ..so be careful and go within the daylight You will not believe a small hotel like that to serve such good food.. If you aret traveling with kids, room on the ground flow will come handy coz u can watch them playing in the pool etc But the other room will come with more privacy I love the rain shavers in bathrooms and very unusual photos on wall too

My second visit to this hotel – for a more information please see my previous TA review Like all hotels in Sri Lanka guest numbers are down due to the ongoing security situation. Only myself and 4 others staying on this occasion This time I was allocated a smaller (but more than adequate) room in the main block rather than the annex. The large balcony with a south westerly aspect provided spectacular views of mountains with clouds folding in the valleys and in the distance Udawelawa National Park. The open air corridor leading to the room fringed by an orchid rock garden Dinner was only available from an a la carte menu involving a 45 minute wait. Nice to know that the vegetables and herbs are sourced from the hotel garden. The property still has no liquor licence. I brought my own wine and so was well prepared! Breakfast was average and not the same quality as my earlier visit Value for Money – Rates at the time of my visit were similar to my first visit and if guest numbers improve are likely to rise in 2020 X Factor – Despite a downturn in guest numbers standards are being maintained .A spectacular quiet remote location with panoramic views and a private natural waterfall in the grounds make this a very special place

The views from Hideaway and undeniably stunning. However unfortunately I feel that is the only thing it is holding on to. We stayed for two nights and wished it were one, or even none. To start with we had booked (and paid for) a deluxe twin room, which promised two double beds. However when we were shown to our room it was one double bed. When we questioned the staff they just put an extra single bed into the room we had been shown. The explanation was that the deluxe twin room was ‘taken’ by other guests. Very disappointing given that we had booked and paid months in advance. There was no acknowledgement or gesture to make up for this inconvenience. Plus the extra single bed squeezed into a double room meant there was physically very little room for us to manoeuvre. It didn’t help that the bathroom with filthy upon arrival. We had to share the shower with an alive slug and dead caterpillar! Plus the tiles were caked with months (maybe years) of crusty dirt. This was clearly not a case of being run down, definitely more that it needed a good scrub! In addition the staff did not even go into the room between our first and second night, making it feel all the more grubby. The building itself is quirky and has great potential. However we felt extremely dirty having to eat, sleep and wash there. It should be made clear they there are no other options for eating nearby. The town is a long drive away on windy roads, which no one would want to attempt after dark. And although the food at a Hideaway was ok, we guessed that the kitchen standards of hygiene were likely the same as in the rooms. Not very appetising! All that being said, the staff were really friendly overall. They were very helpful and arranged breakfast for us on the balcony for our last morning. I think it’s more a case that the owner/management need to rethink the reputation of this establishment. It’s a real shame, as I think with a few minimal touches, this place could be fabulous. But they clearly rely on the fact that there is not much choice in the area.

The environment is much better than in Kandy. Going through a bumpy road. It's very gray. Sometimes it's blocked. The hotel was nice to check in early when we checked in that day. As the brother of the Tutu bus in Colombo was too enthusiastic to help us buy a seven-point train ticket, the next morning at breakfast, Ms. Checkin came over to say one of the reservations. To make up the difference. I think the hotel in Sri Lanka is curious that the price for one and two people is different. Later, the difference was more expensive than Ctrip. I still feel uncomfortable. She did n’t say when she checked in. Breakfast was okay. I ’m not quite used to the buffet here. The fried egg brother opened my stack of fried eggs by hand. The fruits are all papaya and watermelon. They are not very rich. The floor-to-ceiling window of the restaurant was not like that when I booked. There are three glass pieces in the middle. Bedding was more comfortable. Kandy was dirty and messy overall. I did n’t think I would come back, and the room had a balcony.

Freedom of Sri Lanka from December 29th to January 7th, it's very beautiful: if you don't choose this hotel (one night on December 31st), it will be close to perfection! An unpleasant experience: holding the confirmation (paid), but the front desk said that the price was adjusted, and the order was invalid. why? Answer: The problem with travel agencies in your country! Hotels and travel agencies negotiate endlessly ... ………… Direct loss nearly 3 hours, no choice but to compromise, pay cash to check in …… You have to pay $ 165 Alright alright. Wrong, why is there no dinner? (My original order was with breakfast and dinner) Bringing dinner costs $ 285! Exactly $ 285! Obediently, did you downgrade without permission? Expensive, it must be the same as my original order! !! !! (It turns out that the dinner was too bad: buffet style, no decent main course, breakfast level, additional drinks: $ 50 weak) Before I checked in, I stored my luggage, and the luggage number was marked with the room number ... After 3 hours of peeling, the manager-level person said: I apologize for the unpleasant experience you have, we give you Upgraded the room for free! Room 302. Yes, Room 302, it was indicated on the luggage list 3 hours ago! !! !! ? ? ? Naked, my IQ has been seriously underestimated: from 652 yuan (original price) to the final payment of 1995 yuan, thanks to the hotel free upgrade room? ... of course the final difference Ctrip has been refunded After numerous confirmations afterwards, Ctrip called the hotel on December 28 to agree to the price adjustment (Dec 31?) By the way: I booked on December 10th, 652 yuan / room • night By the way: Sri Lanka ’s per capita daily consumption is less than $ 1 By the way: except for sleeping time, 1/3 of the time is pulling the skin at the hotel front desk

Due to the railway strike, we had to give up the tickets we had already purchased and changed to rent a car to Kandy. Although the road is hard, there are also many scenery to be swept. The three-day trip to Kandy is not so much a look at the scenery of the temple and the lake. It is better to say that this hotel is even more pleasant. Booking the hotel, because of the unique tapestry pattern in the hall, arrived at the hotel, first attracted by the river in front of you, the blue sky. The hotel has a sweet and cold drink at the store. When you look at the river, you don’t feel that the procedure is slow. Prayer in the mountains, candlelight and singing at night, a beautiful local wedding, beautiful sunset glow, blue waves from the pool outside the cafe, blending with the hotel's gracious dining and attentive service, a movement or a look, the waiter can Understand your mind. The place to stay, the first floor is slightly damp, but there is a garden where you can push the door, people who like plants, you can also browse the hotel's garden, there are many kinds of plants, all are tropical wonders. We changed to the top of the building. I didn't expect a few rains in the house when the rain was heavy. We were very touched when the staff watched the rain. The little episode did not ruin the mood. Watching a piece of golden bamboo outside can be a good memory. Those who love dessert, food and photography will be satisfied.

It is indeed a hotel with a very long history, a beautiful restaurant with a garden pool, a European style, a huge wooden room door, and a very high room rack, which shows the former glory. but! !! !! Definitely not recommended! Very poor sound insulation! very bad! very bad! Our room was arranged on the second floor, next to the restaurant. First, the lobby bar played and sang until 10:30 in the evening. At the end, we thought we could fall asleep. Around 12 o'clock, a bunch of Europeans who had drunk drinks continued chatting in the lobby bar and laughed loudly. To half past one! No one manages, almost no sound insulation! Finally they returned to the room to rest, the bulky wooden door was closed without any buffer, like firing! Noisy all night without sleep, collapse! Never stay here!

The hotel enjoys a great location, on the mountain, on the cliff side, watching the sunset and the night sky is very beautiful. We booked a penthouse suite, which is very large. One large bed with two small beds is very friendly to the second-born family. There is a swing. The children like it very much. After dark, mosquitoes are in the lobby, but there is no mosquito in the room, indicating that the mosquito prevention work is still good. The rooms are decorated with Sri Lankan local characteristics. For dinner, the two nights are different, but they are all special Sri Lankan diets. The first night is a combination of white rice and several dishes, including chicken curry, onion salad, and some local Sri Lankan specialties. The second night is fried rice with the whole Fried eggs, although the juice and water have to be charged separately, but the price is not expensive, the breakfast is made fresh, and their bread is the most fragrant I have eaten in Sri Lanka. The juice coffee is also good. On the first day, the water flowing in the sink was very mommy. Later, I went out to play and came back the next day. I found that the water had passed through and the water was very small. No water, can also understand, after all, in the mountains so high, the next to go, still consider to stay, yes, it must be a car with a driver only convenient, otherwise a little bit far.

Kandy Lake Front
From the moment we arrived at this hotel, the service was truly excellent. We arrived early, but were still able to check in. We were greeted with cold refreshing coconut drinks and snacks, and the most helpful, lovely staff. Our room was beautiful, very stylish, with a small balcony, lovely bathroom (great toiletries!) and extremely comfortable bed. Perfect! The breakfasts were delicious, such a varied choice of food, with good coffee! We are vegan but there was plenty for us to eat. Day 2 we had freshly prepared hoppers filled with lentil dahl - so yummy! Location is ideal, very close to the lake and not far from the train station. We bumped into a gentleman who works at the hotel when we were out exploring (he was off-duty at the time but recognized us from when we checked in) and he was SUPER helpful, walking with us for a while, pointing out some interesting places to go, and he even helped us buy tickets for a traditional dance show. We were only in Kandy for 2 nights, but really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Highly recommend.
