Chose the hotel for its proximity to a school at which I was taking a 2-week intensive Portuguese course. We were in room 502 with direct beach view and small balcony fitting a small round table and two chairs. We arrived pretty late into the evening from our long distance flight from Europe and reception gave us a warm welcome, even speaking some English. No welcome drink but voucher for one at the bar later on. A kind porter helped us with the luggage to the room and explained facilities. The room is spacious enough for 2, the bed new and good mattress, aircon can be set individually and is located in a way that you don’t get blown off your beds. Small camp board no drawers by the door, also holding salacious safe and the minibar (our arrangement included.... we didn’t quite understand so only used 3 bottles of water). Opposite the king size bed a long board used as desk with another light and chair, place to keep the suitcase, which we kept open to hold all the items that would have gone into a drawer.... The practical bathroom has a toilet, sink with sufficient space around it to hold all your stuff, big mirror and small magnifying one (the latter no light) and offers soap bars, shampoo and conditioner - no shower gel as usual in brazil. The shower is spacious but unfortunately has no hand held(behind not so well kept sliding glass doors) and a line to hold wet beach gear. Sometimes the floor by the door is too dusty but otherwise the room was perfectly clean and well kept. Breakfast buffet is sumptuous not only in Brazilian standards: local and global fare with huge variety of fresh fruit, cold cuts and preserves/marmalades, huge variety of cooked food, breads, cascades, musli corner, coffee and milk and fresh juices and water available plenty. Staff is very kind, especially Giesa became a family friend, but everybody goes the extra mile and smile to help even when things get very busy like over the weekend. Location is great: you only need to cross the street to be on a nice city beach and have plenty of restaurants and bars and shopping facilities in easy walking distance. About 15 minutes’ Uber distance from Pelourinho. Would definitely choose again when returning to Salvador

Located in Barra, a lovely, safe neighbourhood near the beach, and a good range of local cafes and restaurants. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, well appointed with a fan, AC, comfy bed, flat screen TV with access to Netflix, a fridge, drinking water, and a very good bathroom with some toiletries and a rain shower. You can get a decent night’s sleep here. The communal areas are well decorated, clean and inviting. It’s a calm and secure guesthouse to return to after a days sightseeing or on the beach. It has a bright, cheery atmosphere but isn’t rowdy at all, quite the opposite. It attracts decent international clientele. Two lovely little dogs add to the homely feeling of this guest house. There’s a decent selection of food for breakfast, including eggs cooked to order, tea (including PG Tips), coffee, juice, cereal, yogurt, fruit, bread and cake. It’s conveniently located for a short cab ride to Pelhourinho and all the other tourist sights in Salvador. Neil (the owner) is welcoming, really helpful, on-hand, English and Portuguese speaking and very friendly. His team are also nice but it helps if you can speak a little Portuguese with them. I stayed for 3 nights whilst I explored Salvador and could have stayed longer. I’ve stayed at a lot of very good hotels and would highly recommend staying here.

I am a female solo traveller from the UK in my 20s and came to this hotel because I wanted to be very near the beach and have a break from sharing dorms in hostels. It is a great hotel - simple but perfect: - Clean rooms with good air con - Fantastic customer service from the Reception team, very friendly and try hard to communicate with me in English. - Large delicious breakfast buffet - 1 minute walk to Porto de Barra Beach - 1 minute walk to supermarket open till 10.00PM. Definitely recommend if you fancy leaving Salvador old town and maybe on your way to the islands.

Location is not close to main attractions, but if you're here for the Carnival the main "parade" starts just minutes away. We bought an access to a viewing area, kind of like a football stadium's standing places, above the street which the "parade" goes through. The place is called CAMAROCE and there are many of them. If you buy that, make sure your hotel is close to it, as we had to walk with the parade for 2 hours to reach ours, because it was at the very end. It was very expensive, but that's probably due to the Carnival. Location is close to the main promanade and where the Carnival "parade" starts. Good wi-fi, comfortable bed, clean sheets, towels and bathroom. Good breakfast and very friendly staff. If the location of the hotel suits you, you should have everything you need here. We chose this hotel for its location overlooking the beach at Barra. Felipe at reception was extremely friendly and welcoming and we were given a large front-facing room with a balcony on the 6th floor. Apart from having to change our pillows because they were too hard, the room was spacious and comfortable. Not much hot water in the shower and often not enough pressure but really nothing to complain about. However, we felt that the hotel is in need of a good makeover. Restaurant staff at breakfast are indifferent as is the food. It lacks imagination - the cakes all taste the same and the dining room is very lack lustre. The pool is clean and large and great for a good swim. We would definitely stay here again for the location but wouldn't be rushing back for anything else.

I have just arrived in this hotel. It is my second time staying here as I already stayed here after my incoming flight. Last time was the majority of things alright. You can not expect full Novotel Standard eg. like in Paris but overall for short overnight stay near the hotel, it is enough. But today I am shocked. First of all - the staff speaks no English or only very poor English. They handed me my room keys and upon arriving in the room I realized that there is a broken window which is not possible to close. A big issue when you want to use air conditioning and also noise is horrible. Ok, I went back to the reception. There I explained that the window is broken and I would like to get a new room. There was a receptionist that did not speak any English, she thought I need a new room card. After several minutes I received a new room which was unbelievably dirty. The floor was full of hairs and small pieces of something that in the end I had to clean it myself with the towel. Nothing was cleaned. Windows dirty, glass in the bathroom not washed, sofa with spilled something. I think that for this horrible stay should management offer partially refund or voucher for next stay in Accor hotels. But do not be afraid. It is only a short drive from the airport so if you are arriving late from Europe flights and feeling exhausted, you are at the right place. The breakfast is excellent...

I stayed in Salvador for three nights in July, i chose to stay here because of the location, which is very good, situated in the heart of Pelourinho. The price to stay here was very economical, and the facilities are good for the price payed. The people who work here are wonderful, they were extremely helpful and friendly towards me, and gave me allot of advice about their city. I would love to come back and stay here again, i felt safe and at home.

After an unfortunate adventure with a lower class hotel (Sotero) I decided to avoid taking another chance and pay for quality. I was so well inspired! This is the same level of service, perfection and refinement that you get in four seasons or hyatt. The staff is wonderful, attentive, speaks perfect english. The restaurants they recommended were all out of this world, the room was very elegant and comfortable, rooftop pool great too... it ticks all the boxes. Also it is all in the details with them: they offer a pair of ipanema sandals special edition and changed the size of mine without mentioning it after one day (probably checking my sneakers shoe size). Every time i uber, someone is discretely coming behind the car to take the plate number. They also gave me a very generous late check out without charge. Plus the hotel location is perfect. They are on the high side of prices for the city but worth every penny!

We stayed here for 3 nights just before Carnaval. It is located in a square and is literally next to many restaurants, churches and nightlife. We were in a suite with a cute balcony upstairs from which we could see the beautifully lit towers of the church next door. Decor is rustic bahian and the included breakfast was so yummy with freshly made juices, crisp coffee and interesting breads. Since it was close to carnaval, there was music flowing everywhere and the square surrounded by churches made the music echo beautifully! I absolutely recommend staying at this awesome hotel! Wanted to add a note about getting a cab from the airport. If you can't use Uber due to lack of a local SIM, walk to the airport exit and talk to one of the guys offering the taxi ride. The guy will show you a printout with fixed taxi rates, this is completely fake! He quoted R$120 to our hotel in Pelourinho. Despite our language barrier and using the phone calculator, we were able to bring down the rate to R$60 in literally 2 minutes. We could probably have gone lower but whatever. Also we could not find a Bradesco or Bank of Brasil ATM that looked safe (the only 2 ATMs foreigners can use), so we exchanged our dollars for a decent rate (1$=4.1R$) at the Cambio exchange right outside the baggage claim area.

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Village Novo. We had a balcony room and I loved hearing the waves at night. Brian and Christiane were great hosts. They speak English. Although the staff did not speak English, we were able to use Spanish, google translate and gestures. To us, this is part of travel and it was easy to get our messages across. The breakfast was delicious and there was a good variety of eggs, fruits, cheese and pastries. There is a buffet and a menu for ordering certain items but we found the buffet to be sufficient. There was also meat but we don’t eat that, it’s there if you want it. The location was great. It was a safe area for walking around, across from the beach and a short cab ride to other parts of the city.

An Ibis is an Ibis. You know what your getting. Slightly better than other budget chains. Appears to be relatively the same in each country (only stayed in one in Cochin in India and my second stay now in Salvador). No frills and fine if you want somewhere to sleep that's clean and in a good location and you plan to be out most of the time like we were. Staff were generally friendly and some spoke English. They have a restaurant and 24 hour bar which is good. Busy hotel and a nice atmosphere. Location wise near the beach with restaurants and bars at your doorstep. You can't beat the location. Yes it is a cheap taxi ride to the old town and other sights but you don't really want to be staying in the old town at night. This is great to come back to. There is a TV, aircon and fridge. They give one small carton of water but don't replenish it. Wifi is free and fast. Main negatives is there was a funny smell in the room like a drain or egg smell. The shower was cold to luke warm despite running the water for a while. They also need a few more charging sockets. Some may find it a bit noisy as there are late night restaurants and bars if you are at the front side like us but this did not bother us at all. The landing carpets need a good changing and clean. There are usually taxis outside. Highly recommend eating at Solar restaurant next door. We did not eat at the hotel and our breakfast was not included so cannot comment on this. One thing if you have an early morning flight like us, make sure you book and confirm a taxi. We booked one for 03:00 but he did not show! Luckily there was another taxi there. Just make sure it is done. Any other time of the day should be fine as there are plenty of taxis. Would recommend otherwise.

I stayed there for one day (I had to move from another Ibis due to one large event that would occupy the street and make it impossible for me to reach the airport). The hotel seems to be new, very well maintained. The breakfast was very good and it has a shuttle to the airport (free upon arrival). It is near the beaches, but far from the city center. A small walk (10-15 minutes) on a very busy avenue take you to the a train station (very clean and safe trains) that take you almost to the heart of the city (lots of attractions can be reached by foot). It has nothing (any kind of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, fast-food, drugstores etc.) nearby.

The location couldn’t be better, nestled between the two main squares of Rio Vermelho, near tons of great food options in a safe part of town. The rooms were simple but comfortable, with AC. Our room had a garden view but also let in a lot of mosquitoes that seemed to breed in the garden—and the windows didn’t totally close so the mosquitoes were hard to avoid. Breakfast was nice with fresh fruit, a couple juices, breads and cakes, and alright coffee. It also seemed like you could order some tapiocas or eggs from the kitchen. Good but not great compared to some other breakfasts we have had here in Bahia. Overall a good option for Rio Vermelho but a bit overpriced.

My wife, family and friends have always stayed here a few days on our way to and from Chapada Diamantina, where we found a second home far from our Land of the Midnight Sun. Encanto de Itapoan is a unique pousada in many respects and ideally situated close to beach, a short drive to the airport/bus terminal and of course is near Salvador. Janet and Octacilio are gracious hosts who readily provide whatever service or help is needed to ensure a fantastic stay in Itapoa. We are already looking forward to our next meeting in Itapoa in a little over a year from now.

Bahia Pelô is a cute 8 room Pousada perfectly located near the tourist area of Pelourinho. My room was very small and on the top floor. No elevator. Pros: Decent breakfast, working AC, great staff, free Wi-Fi, and very safe location. Cons: Small bathroom with unpredictable water temperature. Street noise. If staying on a party night, you won’t be able to sleep until the parties end. So light sleepers be ware. Sits on a hill. The streets are cobblestone so walking may be challenging for some. Conclusion: if you are looking for an affordable, basic accommodation, and plan to stay out late, this may be a good choice for you. I prepaid for this room and stayed elsewhere most nights due to the noise and the stairs and hills in the area. My room did not have the amenities I expected. So make sure to ask questions. The staff is quite lovely.

This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel this holiday. The people on the desk in reception have been outstanding, helping us with booking flights and other things. Also William in the restaurant looked after us superbly when we have eaten there in the evenings. The hotel is centrally located, not far from the main bus terminal, plenty of local buses stop nearby and the fare for a taxi to the historic centre costs around 40 reals. The restaurant is very pleasant and has an extensive menu and wine list. Breakfast offers everything you need with fresh omelettes being cooked to order - very good. There is a nice outdoor pool and a fitness centre. The rooms are very pleasant. My only criticism is that in the bathrooms in both rooms where we have stayed there has been unpleasant mould on the bottom surround of the showers.

When I first got there I was sort of 'overlooked'. I should mention that there were 2 guys at the front desk. Luckily a young woman came along who was a lot friendlier but she went as soon as she came. I was talking to one of the guys (Canadian-Brazilian guy) and stated that I did not speak much Portuguese (but that my family was Portuguese) then I think I mispronounced something - the name of a food - and he turned to the other guy at the desk and said something to him about me in Portuguese (I think it was 'she can't even say the name of it'. It was really unpleasant for me and just unnecessary. To be honest I should have confronted him about it but i'm guessing he saw I was shy so didn't care. This is really bad customer service. It's not how you treat people. My guess is their age might be a problem so they need to employ people of all ages, both men and women to make it comfortable for every type of guest not just girls that the boys like the looks of. The second issue was with the room. The room was completely different to the one I booked (either on here or through a sister site). The image of the room was a room facing the square with large window shutters but I was given a room at the back with no view at all. There needs to be more communication between this hotel and the site we purchase rooms from because something is getting lost in translation. Onto good points. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was great (and the woman who cooks is lovely - really friendly) - lots of food options. The dining area is cosy and not intimidating. The room looks out onto the square which was fantastic. It's also great if you come back early in the day when no one is around and you can just sit there and look onto the square and soak up the atmosphere. It's also open at night so you can have the same experience. I don't know where the others guests were (out partying? Also I went in May... it won't let me select that in the drop down option) so I was alone most of the time and it was wonderful. There is also a communal games room with books if you want to just chill there. There are wash basins dotted around the hotel (it's a bit of a maze) and the decor is really lovely. It was a nice place to be in. The location is also great being in the centre of the square - you can look out onto it every nigh and see people relaxing (yes it's sort of loud like the guest said but I didn't experience much sound in my room - having been shoved at the back of beyond). Diagonal to the left of the hotel you can get the lift down to the market (can't remember the cost but it's pennies). The back end of the market is where you get the hop on hop off bus although it's not immediately clear. There are some nice shops near the hotel and one or two good places to eat, hop on hop off bus was good too. I spent 2 or 3 days here and that was more than enough. There wasn't really much to do so you need to move a lot more slowly to capture the mood and make the most of it

We read some reviews about the hotel and the pictures were amazing and that were the decision factors for booking it. Part of it is an old building and it’s beautiful. Our rooms, considered standard, weren’t pictured anywhere. So it was a little disappointing. Very small tv, poor fridge and bathroom. Our bed didn’t even have a headboard. The view was great and though. My kids room had a problem with the toilet. It wasn’t flushing. We dined there a few times and one of them when we ordered fish with almond crust and banana cream it was awful. The meat was frozen in the middle. The server tried to fix. I complained about it and all we got was an I’m sorry. The New Year’s reception was good and beautifully done. Not really friendly staff and manager, apart from Tatiana and Tatiane. Pool deck (very small) with an amazing beach view.
