Nice location near various resteraunts and cafes.
The bed seemed clean and decent to sleep on. All the furniture and fixtures were pretty old and worn out. No windows in the room that we were assigned. TV and wifi works but don't expect to be able to connect to your TV with your devices.
Cleanliness of everything else was abysmal. Air conditioning was not clean, emitting a musky scent. Various surfaces were covered in dust or grime.
The ceiling hidden lighting were never cleaned, outright disgusting.
Staff were quick to give us a room change but the new room's sole improvement was that the Air con didn't stink.
If you want cheap and near interesting restaurants, this is the place....as long as you can bear the disgusting nature of the room
Very well managed and maintained cleanly. Only troubesome thing is limited parking space but still managed to squeeze in. Gave us the highest floor with good view to the sea!
Booked this room for my guest from overseas. No window is ok, Queen size bed with clean toilet. Location is surrounded by minimarts, 7-11, food is along the whole stretch of joo chiat. Very accessible!
Beautiful hotel . Affordable and comfortable. Friendly staff and near halal eateries . Very convenient. The hotel was easy to find and along the way before reaching hotel have lots of shops food .
Awesome stay. Booked a one night stay to get some rest. Got a corner room with a bath tub and there was no disturbance. Air con is working strong especially on a hot day and am glad it did. Only downside is the hotel room’s door lock is just a simple card scan and door closure. Their extra lock has not been working for as long as I have been visiting and staying there. But so far I never had any incident where my room was opened for no reason. Still it will be nice if the locks are fixed for added assurance to guests.
Will come back for a well needed break. This hotel thus far is simple but clean and the staff are really accommodative to your needs. Couldn’t thank them enough.
Perfect location to check out Katong/Joo Chiat area!
There was a little bit of waiting time for check-in, so we only got to check in around 3pm. Latest check out time possible was 1pm. Room is small but cosy, unblocked view overlooking the street and houses was perfect. Bed was alright only and pillows were too soft to support our necks, resulting in backache and neck-ache the next day. Basic amenities available, with good choice of Nespresso, Bacha coffee or TWG tea too. Suggest to skip the breakfast and enjoy the good food all around within walking distance instead.
Positives
- Large room (40 sq metres)
- 55 inch Samsung Smart TV
- AC very strong
- Pillows were very good
- Sound insulation was great
- Staff very service oriented
- Peranakan theme well executed
- bathtub is huge
Negatives
- Water took a couple of mins to become hot
- lack of small table and chair in balcony
- Club lounge food (canapés and breakfast) very average, slightly underwhelming
- Signs of wear and tear in the hotel
- lack of dedicated conditioner ( conditioning shampoo was pretty useless)
- lack of bedside usb charging ports
- no dedicated at/hdmi side panel
- slightly awkward to soak in the bathtub that is in the room/ not “sealed”
Had stayed in this hotel several time, never let me down. Reasonable price yet having clean, more than basic room. 15mins walk to Paya Lebar MRT/Circle line station
First of all, I have to write a good Korean review.
1. There is a stop 4 minutes away from the location.
2. The air conditioner should be in strong wind so it is a little cool.
3. There is a hair dryer and a small refrigerator.
Slippers are essential, use it after taking a shower in the bathroom. Overseas, I wear shoes indoors
Just ask for towels and water at the counter.
On arrival, was given to 2 connecting rooms at L15 as booked. One of the bedroom is filled with strong pungent drainage smell when stepped in. Was reassigned to another 2 bedrooms facing the opposite. However, the rubbish was not cleared in one of the toilet. I have extra plastic bag to throw the waste so I did not bother to call the housekeeper. I mentioned this is my wedding anniversary celebration, there is no surprise as promised a small cake will be prepared for my request. I am actually quite disappointed with the 3D2N staycation as compared the services 10yrs ago.
The room is quite nice. Receptionist is friendly and helpful. Tv doesn't come with Netflix but lucky me and my fiance bring along a Chromecast to connect to tv. Walkable distance to geylang serai and few shopping malls. Alots of food areas to choose. Will surely come again. 👍😁
The check in was fast, thanks to Jack or Jackson his name for letting us get the family room when we arrive. Lobby was clean and location is good. Family room is big, knowing the hotel was quite and old hotel, the room was a bit dusty on the glass near to the kettle area and the kettle was not working well.
Overall is good. Just need more housekeeping to be done
The decoration is very old and has some smell. You need to let the smell go in every day; the hygiene is quite clean; the sound of the air conditioner is a window machine, and the sound is relatively loud: the quilt is a layer of cloth, and there is a separate thin blanket; the location is in a pedestrian street, taxi It’s not very convenient. Many drivers don’t know it. There are subways and buses nearby. In general, the traffic is convenient; there are shopping places such as bugis around; the service is good; breakfast is relatively simple, and there is a Yabo Center nearby that is good for eating; Sim Lim Square nearby It is said that the water is deep, so please be cautious when shopping; there are no dental appliances, there are fewer charging ports, and no water is provided.
The check in was very smooth. The location is great as it’s linked to Raffles City shopping mall and walking distance to City Hall MRT station. The room was spacious and there’s a balcony. Unfortunately the hotel don’t provide complimentary parking.
Nightmare. Avoid this place at all costs. Worst hostel I've ever stayed in. It's filthy, squalid, and shockingly bad. I have reported the hostel to the Singapore health authorities, and have followed up on the report. I hope that Singapore government shuts it down. It's beyond scary. It is by far the filthiest hostel I have ever stayed in. The common facilities are disgusting. The urinals are broken and covered in plastic bags. The floors and surfaces were filthy with brown or black sticky substances and mold. The sink was clogged. The male washroom door was perpetually held open with a string cord so that some guests could dry their clothes, thereby violating any sense modesty of those using the showers as well as women passing by the door. The soap dispensers are broken. There was a pile of vomit on the table which was left overnight. There were guests / squatters sleeping on each of the couches throughout the hostel; I saw at least 4 squatters. The room itself had a leaky aircon pipe which dripped ice water on me as I tried to sleep. There were used bandaids wedged into the shower and a used rusty razor blade shoved into the shower's water heater. The hostel attracted the worst people, and most inconsiderate roommates. I've been hosteling for over 20 years and it's almost always been a positive experience. This was the hostel from hell. I hope Singapore health department does the right thing and shuts this down.
Location is good for no lack of food. Near coffee shops, hawker centres and shopping mall(bugis). Have many selection and varieties of local food.
Amenities not so fantastic. Bare minimum and there is no in-house slippers. Only have body towels.Shower area is very small, enough to house a 70 kg adult COMFORTABLY. Air con control is of the old type, non digital. 4 pillows and quite comfy plus mattress is quite firm. Only minus point is that side table is quite far from the bed on one side. The mini sofa is not for lying. Awkward shape (see photo with bag). Though many TV channels, very old shows like Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Net by Sandra bullock. has Chinese language channels and local ones
HDB blocks are very close by so need to draw curtains for more privacy.
No water heater as hot water is from roof top tank. Have to wait for hot water to come on after switching on like 5 minutes.
Reception staff was very polite and chirpy when we checked in. Staff name is Xiao Xuan and she gave us extra room cards when we requested. Didnt spend too long at the counter as she was efficient. Great service!
The moment we drove into the basement carpark, we knew it would be an amazing staycation. We parked next to their iconic vintage rolls royce.
Check in was seamless, although their customary welcome drink was absent. No more welcome drink?
During our stay, we enjoyed the quiet and less crowded swimming pool. (as compared to the crazy crowd at other hotels). Breakfast and evening canapés were good as well. We absolutely enjoyed the complimentary snacks and drinks throughout the day as well.
Service was top-notched - friendly staff who made us feel at home.
We have been to countless staycations, and Barracks Hotel is definitely ranked 1st. Will be back again.
As an Ascott group member, there are decent expectations of an Ascott experience in all the properties in which I had once stayed (Ascott, Somerset, Citadines). Citadines Rocher (recently opened in 2020) was one of my top choices in having a local staycation because of its location and price range. However, it was an overall disappointing experience, and here’s why: 1. No daily housekeeping service 2. Our bathroom door could not close. It was completely off the ledge. 3. Reception is busy all the time. Phone calls are often not answered 4. This hotel was most probably a designated hotel used for both Malaysian citizens who were unable to return home due to locked borders, as well as returning Singaporeans to serve their mandatory 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN). There were confirmed COVID-19 cases within my period of stay. We were notified by a letter from the management. The least the management could do was to provide a mask or sanitizers to guests. We also chanced upon 2 medical workers fully donned in PPE escorted a guest to the ambulance. Scary stuff. 5. We took our own trash out of the room since day 1 of check-in. It was not cleared even upon checking out. Dear Citadines Rocher, please review your services. I had absolute faith and would like to continue giving my support to Ascott despite this awful stay.
My first stay in YWCA Fort Canning. Located in the quiet side within close vicinity of Orchard Rd and quite close to the National Museum, Methodist Church, Fort Canning Park etc. Parking is free but needs to get the parking voucher at the reception area. Only 1 person at the Reception to handle all the check-in and check-out but he is quite efficient and very polite. The family room is spacious and clean, has basic amenities and comfortable beds. The toilet has bidet which is one of the key reasons for our choice as this is not found in many other hotels, including the premium ones. We had an issue with the noisy air-cond due to faulty motor which was replaced within 2 hrs w hile we were out for dinner. We like the responsiveness of the staff. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at YWCA Fort Canning.
Located right next to a bus stop and a 5-minute walk from a MRT station, this budget hotel screams value. Two restaurants right at the ground floor of the premises and a very famous Indian restaurant (A2B) within 3 minutes walk away, good food is very close by. Mustafa centra is a 5-minute walk. A no-frills, impeccably clean hotel in a great location - excellent value for money. We stayed there for 9 nights and every morning the cleaning team was prompt to leave our room blushing clean. My request for extra towels were immediately taken care of and seen through all 9 days. 24-hour hot water and air-conditioning were top-notch. Special shout-out to Ms Pam and Richard at the front desk who gave us wonderful tips about their country and made us feel right at home. The room cleaning persons (sorry, I missed taking their names) did a fabulous job every single day! I was travelling with 2 young kids and had requested a room on a higher floor with a double bed. They were able to accommodate me on their 7th floor (not noisy at night) but could provide me with only twin beds. This was a minor blip in the otherwise exceptional service provided my the hotel. Rooms near the lift tend to be a bit noisy throughout the day. Room # 710 was great - 7th floor and far from the lift. I'd recommend this place again to anyone looking for a no-frills budget hotel in a great location.
Clean.. comfort... water preassure is very good.😋. Room is quite spacious... if you travel with a family like me and on budget... this is my kind of place... will come here again and next time i will extra comforter.
Forgot to bring charger, they're able to borrow me. Hotel staff quite friendly, they're willing to help me to collect my grab food and send it to my room. Thanks for your help and service, I appreciate it.
I'm really not satisfied with their service, keep waiting and waiting, I stay 3days 2nights,wasted my time alot, when I request for makeup room ,I wait for around 5hours,keep calling front desk only answer will follow up,also cut my phone very fast yet I'm haven't finish my talk, at last still nobody coming over, haiz, until I going down chat with the another front desk only doing something ~~
Anyway Breakfast are great 👍
Ya that is true according to my wording if you dont have any other option then you can stay here othere please avoid. i stayed here for 1 night, but almost not comfertable, before i checked in a room when i layed down on my bed, it is keep on moving i asked to change my room and they did it but the room is not same like before but bed still moving some time. the cleanness of also not up to the mark. and they charged for wifi to heard, i was socked and the funny things is that you can use only one device with one password so you you would like to use aother device you have to buy another password. thats all ok but still after paying the wifi is not woking good. staff also lalking bit rude. At last for me sorry to say but not value for money. will never back with this property.
~ Cosy room with various different TV channels
~ Only 2 halal hot food w/o cross-mixing options available: brown rice porridge with condiments & baked beans, the rest will be bread, cereal, raisins, dried apricot, salad, pastries, fruits & yoghurt during breakfast
~ Shuttle to Orchard available during weekdays
~ Bus stop is just a few steps outside the entrance
Pros: Our staycation started on a good note as the service was good from the minute of check in. The Front Desk staff was friendly and was patient with our enquiry. The cute tiger plush made my girls happy. We requested for an extra bed and it came within 30 minutes. As we have 4 pax in the room, we requested for extra bath towels and the Housekeeping team promptly delivered not only the towels but extra bottles of drinking water and lotus biscuits.
Cons: The water tap at the bath was so tight, so difficult to turn off. Can certainly do with more food choices for in- room dining. If only the pool has slides, else it's quite boring for children.
I booked the wrong location and date and named to get the staff to change it for me. I did not stay at this branch, but moved to the Chinatown branch.
The whole hotel smells good.
The room is basic, the shared bathroom is ok, not fantastic clean. It is ok for solo travellers who want a private space. There is Netflix on TV. Walls are a little thin. Nice to have self-check in.
Well located, really nice staff for everything, including informations. Bed was comfortable, good shower, breakfast simple but ok. The 2 biggest problems are the travellers who don't respect the sharing room after 23h00 (need a corfu or to be advise) and the room on the street side with a restaurant open 24/24, are to to noisy. You just get little sleep. Coming from Airport, with MRT get off at Jelan Besar exit B, turn right, walk to Dickson Road. To take the bus via Malaysia, walk via Jelan Besar, turn left and right on Weld Road, it will be on your right (3.5MYR)
The location is abit outskirt of orchard road. However the hotel did provides free shuttle service on half an hour interval to orchard area. Rooms are clean, and newly renovated as the hotel is new. The buffet breakfast is normal. But they do service quality premium coffee and teas. I was v surprise that there are no toast breads and pancakes/waffles provided for their breakfast spread. Breakfast serving is more catered for Asian where there are noodle soups and dim sums such as buns and lotus glutinous rice. The hotel has put all guests from Novotel and Mercure in the same restaurant for breakfast where it sometimes gets v crowded especially at peak hours between 8-9am. So be early for your breakfast if you do not want to wait for a table. It seems like both hotel guests get the same amenities such as accessible to infinity pool @ Novotel tower except with different room’s category. Where I think previously, Mercure guests are not allowed to do so. As both hotel charged at different room rates, I think it is a little unfair for people who stays in Novotel as both Novotel and Mercure are at different class of hotel categories.
Superb location just 5mins walk from clarke quay mrt station. The staffs are very friendly and many nice dinning restaurants around. Recommend to try the food at Alco Vault just beside the hotel. Their food are really delicious.
This was an overnight stay and we (two mature aged Australian couples) arrived from India very early on the first day (around 7.25 am). The hotel staff allowed us to check in very early. There were two couples and two people were unwell. So if we had needed to sit around for many hours awaiting a room it would have been painful. But the hotel counter staff said ”It is very early but we are flexible here and we will try to get your rooms ready ASAP”. One couple were in their room by about 8.30am and we got ours about 9.45am. This was excellent service and above and beyond normal expectations. The rooms are small but everything works: clean, nice bathroom, air-con, comfy beds, safe, tea making facilities, hairdryer, Wifi etc....all inclusive and working well. Very pleased and we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone on an overnight stay or a short stay in Singapore and not wanting to spend a fortune on expensive hotels. They ring taxis for you and the cost to the airport was only about $10AUD.
The check in is slow on that day cause that white shirt lady take time to check our detail even I aready paid online booking and request a higher floor and connection room for 2 but after by 2pm check in she given us a family of 4 2 room is not connected and we found difficult in taking our shower or daily use need to call or press bell to look for item.
The morning breakfast on Sunday is good and delicious and the part time Chinese lady is hard working and good service to attend us.
Had a great time staying here for three nights during an extended trip to Singapore. Each cubicle is spacious enough that you won't feel too cramped and the bathrooms were extremely clean and well-kept. Location is a 5 minute walk from one of the MRT stations (Bendemeer I think) and there is a 7-11 and other conveniences right across the street. Extremely well-kept common area and the wifi was very good. Overall enjoyed it and would no doubt choose it again if I end up in the Lion City in the near future.
Amazing location with many eateries and cafés around. Scenic surroundings, located within a cultural centre. Service is good. Room is clean but very small. TV offerings are basic.
The overall feeling is very small, the carpet is very damp, and there is no mineral water provided. The bathing place is in the bathtub. I don't like the layout of the room very much. I should have stayed here once and would not want to live again, but the lady at the front desk is worthy of praise. good service attitude
Location is good, conveniently located near Jurong East MRT station and bus interchange. There are also three shopping malls nearby. Convenient for shopping and many food choices. With a few fast food places and donki which operates for 24 hours, a blessing for foodies!
Room is also clean and spacious, would be better if there could be an additional chair and small coffee table.
The self-check in kiosk not that user friendly though, many room for improvement.
Very good for traveler 🧳
Near many transportation.. It is recommended that it is clean and close to the bus and train.
Close to many food centers Say it's pretty good.
🪝🛟🗺️🏯🏝️
It's easy to travel anywhere.
Brought my parents for one day staycation. I decided a place where we hardly go to have that away from home feel. We stay Jurong West. There are many choices near Arcadia but it was Arcadia family room (with window) that attracted me. However, was disappointed as the reception informed that there only 1 of such room and was taken. Felt cheated and that the money was not well spent.
If you love to read in a breezy, quiet and serene place, then Club room in Oasia Hotel Downtown is definitely the place to be in! Awesome services from the staff working at the front desk and club lounge. Really appreciate their attention. Good location. Train station and supermarket are just nearby. Probably the only minus point is the variety of food in the lounge. Hoping that they will add more in time to come!
The four of us stayed here on our visit to singapore. The front desk lady charged or room deposit instead of merely taking a credit card number to charge later in case of damages (this was against policy I discovered later). We stayed in a room with a queen bed and two bunk beds, ensuite bathroom, plus a small balcony. The room was clean and comfortable - all features functioned properly. The location is far from the main areas of the city and on the other side of singapore from the airport. A subway station is about 10-15 minutes walk away. A bus stop is directly in front of the guesthouse. It's a solid 30 minute trip away from little india or little china. Being a hostel we had concerns about noise at night but were not bothered by any. We did not utilize the breakfast option but did eat at the restaurant across the street and found it acceptable. On checkout I found that they could not refund the deposit. After working with the manager over the next several days she refunded the deposit to me via paypal instead of a credit to my original card. That was not desirable at all, but was the best she said she could do. On the whole this was a nice stay, I only advise you to be cautious about your room deposit.
