There is a bus station next to the hotel. It is more convenient to go to oxford center. The room size is okay, with plenty of sunlight, clean, and warm. The view from the window is very good. I saw a little squirrel in the morning, and the children liked it very much. However, after the check-in time is 4 o'clock, the check-out time is 10 o'clock, which is really inconvenient. In addition, the room cleaning will only be provided if the stay is more than 5 consecutive days. We have not cleaned the room for three consecutive days. I think it is not very reasonable and needs to be improved. .

Stayed here for 1 night as it was close to the 02. Very limited car park on site do had to park on the street. Should have turned around at the front door which was very uninviting. Green fish tanks in the hallway and bags of stuff. Went through to the back room to check in. Absolute bomb site, paperwork and junk everywhere. Chinese man took payment and showed us to our room. Room was freezing as all the windows were open. Probably to get rid of any lurking smells. Checked the bed first, bedding was actually crisp, white and clean. Curtains were all ripped, furniture needed replacing, mattress was too small for the bed so had a bit gap where you could see cardboard covering the slats. Bathroom was somewhat clean but needed a major redo. When we returned after our night out we struggled to get in the front door. The key doesn’t fit right. During the night the front door rang so others obviously had the same problem. My partner turned over a couple of times when he got into bed and felt the slats give way so he spent the whole night frozen to one spot in case he fell through the bed. I slept quite well considering. Didn’t bother with the shower the next morning was safer to wait til I got home. Left the keys on the bedside table and got out fast. Will definitely not be staying here again. Feels dirty, unsafe and needs major improvement. Only good point was the location was 5 mins walk to the 02.

I was initially a bit worried about staying here from the other reviews, but the place must have had a recent revamp or something because our room was absolutely fine! I felt like the place deserved an updated review as the majority of the reviews on here are from a while ago. I requested a room at the back after seeing some people mentioning the rooms at the front were a bit noisy at night time and I was grateful we were given a room at the back. The bathroom looked modern, the shower was good, comfy bed and the cleanliness was all fine. Yes the room is a bit on the small side, and the sitting area out the front could probably do with updating too, but for the price we paid I feel like it was fair. We literally just wanted somewhere to crash after attending a gig at the 02 Academy up the road so this guesthouse was perfectly fine for that purpose. No brekkie supplied, but there are some lovely cafe's up the road you can pop into for that. No complaints here!

We stayed at The Balkan Lodge with friends as we were out in Oxford for the night. The hotel was lovely! Clean, bright rooms with good amenities. Our stay was made extra special by the hospitality of the owner, he was very attentive and friendly and kept the bar open late for us at short notice, which was much appreciated. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Oxford!

On a recent visit to Oxford I decided to stay in one of the prison cells at the Malmaison Oxford which was a former prison. It was a great decision as the rooms were indeed cells and still have the steel doors and brick walls to prove it. Everything else is completely modern with a large bathroom and nice working area. The location in what is actually part of Oxford Castle is within easy walking distance of most of Oxford's main attractions including the Ashmolean Museum, Bodleian Library and the principal colleges as well as the Westgate Mall. The hotel has a lot of nice modern art, much of it with a prison motif, albeit tongue-in-cheek. The staff is young and friendly and the clientele is quite mixed. I saw a Ford Focus parked beside a Ferrari. The dining room and bar are quite small at first glance until you realize there are many side rooms into what were once cells. The full English breakfast was great, but for dinner we went to some of the nearby pubs and the small Italian restaurant Prezzo which literally right next door. My only complaint was that the internet in the rooms is spotty, no doubt because of the thick walls and steel doors. But it works fine everywhere else. This is a luxury hotel, but the prices were definitely quite reasonable for the experience offered.

Ideal place to stay in the heart of Oxford. Very clean and”quaint ” couple of rooms. We just stayed for the one night in two rooms , one with an en-suite, but would have been more than happy to stay longer. This is a beautiful building but the low ceilings and narrow stairs might be a problem for some people. The listing on TripAdvisor is a bit misleading as no breakfast is included (we were made aware of this when booking) Would definitely recommend. (Unless your a bit tall and clumsy!!)

We had an a enjoyable 2 night stay here. Car parking was available at the front, the 2 rear parking spaces were taken, it is a little tricky to reverse into. We had one of the bedrooms on the front, it has en suite facilities and was adequate for our needs. The only drawback is that the main road is very noisy. The breakfast is good, with a good choice of cereals, together with croissants, toast and very good coffee machine. It is a 15-20 minutes walk into the city centre, although we mainly used the bus service, which run around every 10 minutes. We did the 'free' walking tour in the city which was very good, overall we really enjoyed our trip to Oxford.

The hotel is situated in a quiet residential area, about 20 minutes walk to city centre and you will walk past a lot of magnificent buildings including Keble College. There are only 11 guest rooms and the hotel is really warm and cozy. The room was very clean and the staff was very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was served in the observatory, which was beautiful and amazing. There were a lot of books around and you could take one with you! The breakfast was mainly continental but there was also some hot food such as scrambled eggs, tomatoes and beans. It’s included in the room price, so very good value for money. On-site free parking as well. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. Only one minor issue was that you could hardly adjust the temperature of the shower water (we booked two rooms, one had that issue, the other one was normal) and it became hotter and hotter as time went by.

Very nice hotel with very friendly staff. Beds and pillows were very comfortable and it was nice to have extra pillows and blankets in the room, if needed. Bathroom was nice and towels were fluffy! The little extras like bottled water, hot chocolate and cookies were a nice touch. The location was great...very close to the train station, which was the deciding factor to book this hotel. We were not disappointed! The little restaurant located off the lobby served a delicious breakfast!

I love this little boutique hotel. The staff are truly the best - friendly and accommodating. The premises are showing some signs of age but very clean and comfortable. I love the cafe as well - I wish there were some more menu options but what they have is very good. I didn't have a car so parking was not an issue but I do hear that it's limited around the hotel, which sits on a quiet street near the river, about a 15-20 minute walk from Oxford city centre. I've stayed here before and happily will again. (Note that this property is one of many businesses that has gone completely cashless - I don't like not having a cash option but the UK seems to be adopting it at a fast pace)

The environment is very good and suitable for family travel. The location is about 28 minutes' walk from the city center in the north of Oxford. There is a bus stop in front of the door, but we did not sit. Breakfast English breakfast, buffet can be ordered, and walk to Oxford University Park the next day Other places are all on foot. The only drawback of the room is not soundproof, and the sound of snoring upstairs can be heard. Can park. Like the study in the public area.

3 adults traveling on a short trip from London. I booked this property as they had a room for 3 adults, rather than booking two hotel rooms. Description also stated it is a short walk to town and seconds from the car park. Pros - property is clean and fairly comfortable. Beds harder than I'm used to but that's me. Bathroom small but clean and looks fairly new. We were happy for the fan. TV has 2 remotes, one of them for Netflix. Could not get that to work. We had enough towels for everyone. Cons - yes, we had room 6 which has two beds for three adults. But it's at the top of two flights of very narrow steep steps. Real pain to get luggage up and down. Walk to town is closer to 20mins. That's not that close to town for someone who walks with a cane. Carpark - not seconds away. It is a 14min walk (we timed it). No description of what car park to use. We really had to do some detection work to figure it out. Parking next to property has a 90min limit and is a shopping parking lot. Do not book this property thru a third party such as BedsOnline. To get the codes to get into building and room, the email is sent to booking email which in our case was BedsOnline. Our travel agent had to do a big last minute scramble to get that email for us. We almost could not stay here and it would have been quite the scramble to get another hotel. The contact for this property sent us one email after our first inquiry to her, but then would not reply to our further emails. I showed them our voucher and asked for assistance but was totally ignored.  So I could not report to them that the toilet seat is very very loose and I almost fell. Front of property has trash cans and bags and is not very welcoming.  Some flowers in big flower pots would be a nice touch. While the room was very clean and fairly comfortable, with new windows, there were some issues in the bathroom, such as no place to put soap in the shower, no hooks to hang clothes. Over all, honesty in your description would have been very appreciated. Really can't give it more than 2 stars.

Very very basic. Very little care taken in general. Room was ok but small and stuffy. Decor run down . Corridors cramped and shabby. Desk was unmanned, had to buzz to get staff over road from their “ sister “ hotel. They seemed disinterested. Little local knowledge. Walls paper thin. When i left in the morning , I walked out into a building site - the whole section , including the front door , had been sectioned off workmen - who shouted at me for not wearing a hard-hat 😂 would have been nice to get a heads up from the hotel this was happening. You get what you pay for , and this was cheap , but I won’t be staying again. Recommend avoiding

I enjoyed my stay at Central Backpackers. It's a small, compact hostel so it's pretty easy to start up a conversation with someone if you feel like it. The room (8 bed female dorm) was super spacious, and it was great to have power sockets and a light for each bed. Hostel was clean, showers were nice, but one of the toilets always seemed to have an issue with flushing (toilet within shower room by dorm 7). Kitchen was small but seemed like it had everything you'd need if you wanted to cook. Movie room was small but cosy. Great location, 5 mins from train station and easy walk to main attractions.

We stayed just one night to meet family members for dinner in Oxford. It is very well located for the city cetre. Despite that, it is in a quiet location and we had a good night's rest in a small but comfortable room. It lacks the range of facilites that you may want for a long stay. For example, it has no lounge, restaurant or lifts, which is the only reason I could not give 5 /5 for facilites. What facitlities is does have are good: in room tea and coffee making, television, radio and WiFi. Staff are friendly and helpful. We came by car and used the Park and Ride system, which is excellent. Oxford bus services are good. The hotel is also only a short taxi ride from the station if you go by train. The hotel was ideal for a short stay and we will use it again.

My first experience highlighted the incompetent service. I booked an executive room and was told 6 months later that they had listed it at the wrong price. After confirming the new price, it was clearly confirmed on ***********. The hotel clearly ignore these confirmations because they downgraded me to a classic, but left *********** to charge me the higher price. Hotel not interested, everyone else’s fault. No apology, no compensation. *********** had to contact the hotel and correct the price again. Access code arrived less than 3 hours prior to check-in, which was the first I knew of my downgrade. Classic rooms are OK but very noisy if you’re at the back. Sink plug broken, poor ventilation, good Wi-Fi, clean and comfortable bed. Stayed 2 nights but after first night, no housekeeping, no clean cups, no new toiletries and bottles of water. They have clearly, following the decision to sell, given up. If you haven’t booked already, or have a flexible booking, you might wish to do the same.

Nice hotel. Staff are cordial but the amenities need to be reviewed and made up to date. No landline to ring the reception for any service needed, had to go all the way downstairs to the reception to make a complaint on a toilet that’s refused to flush. Shower not working, couldn’t flush the toilet until I applied much pressure on the flush handle. Would’ve been great if the amenities are up to date (for the lack of a better word).

Fantastic location, right on the Broad opposite Balliol. The entrance is unprepossessing, just some narrow stairs and no people. But once you've climbed them, there's a friendly face and our room about 2 feet away. And what a lovely room, quirky and overlooking the Broad, which is now traffic free. The bathroom is small but well fitted. My wife and I thought the shower was the best we have encountered in a hotel, with a door that shuts properly so the bathroom doesn't get soaked. And the towels were soft and fresh. There is no breakfast or dining area which we knew. But our stay was comfortable and the location was perfect for us.
