Beware!!! There are thieves at the Thon Hotel Trondheim. My friend and I stayed the night there on October 30, 2019. We checked out the next morning at 10:30, and were offered to leave our bags in their “baggage room.” This room is a locked room just off of the lobby. Easy for the staff to see the comings and goings. We spent the day in Trondheim and upon our return, around 17:00, we asked to have the door opened to the baggage room. To our shock, our bags were done. Our two bags and another oversized duffel bag of a Norwegian man who was there to retrieve his. I didn’t panic at first, mostly because ALL of my belongings were in that bag, I was literally left with the clothes on my back. So I didn’t let my mind go there. I figured the staff had moved them to clean or something, after all, it was a secure room. We went out to tell the clerk, who was the same guy all three of us had left the bags with that morning to ask him where our bags were. He went in the room himself, looked around and unapologetically told us that they must have been stolen and we should probably call the police. What!???? Stolen???? We obviously had several follow up questions, the main one being “how on earth did this happen??” He said that he wasn’t sure, but regardless, they weren’t responsible for the stolen luggage because we “should have never left our bags in there.” We became very defensive to this victim shaming. We lost all our clothes, money, passports, electronics, and he was so nonchalant about the whole thing. This led me immediately to believe that this wasn’t the first time this had happened! We then had to take ourselves across town to the police station because they wouldn’t offer us a taxi. They new we were trying to catch a flight to Bergen as well and this was just so incredibly stressful. In the event that we missed our flight, we weren’t offered a room, a refund for what we had already paid for the previous night...I mean NOTHING! We were literally met with “well, now you’ve learned a lesson- don’t leave your belongings in our care.” I asked him to look at the cameras, he claimed not to have cameras. After speaking to the manager the following day, we found out that they do indeed have cameras, but weren’t going to be looking at them. I couldn’t believe my ears. It was extraordinarily suspicious. Why wouldn’t they also want to know who was in their hotel and stealing?? But they weren’t at all interested. Incompetent and dishonest. I would strongly urge everyone not to choose this hotel for the main fact that incompetent people run it/work there. They take no responsibility whatsoever for their clients and certainly not our belongings. The fact how they don’t know how the thieves got in is especially concerning seeing how it’s a locked door. The only person with access is the front desk worker. Yet they didn’t “see anything.” Scary stuff. You have been warned!

This hotel gets full points for location. It is in the center of the city and is a short walk from everything, including Trondheim Spektrum. Apart from the location, there are not many other positives. The breakfast is average, the rooms are modern yet very small and the foyer and service were average. The negatives include a dirty and old bathroom with shower doors and seals that are broken, lots of noise in the room from the lift going up and down all night, the hardest and scratchiest bath towels that I have ever used in my whole life. At least I got a good exfoliation. I don´t think I would stay here again.

I spent one night at the hotel and was kind of disappointed actually. The room was in principle large enough but the area between writing desk and bed was narrow so sitting down with the laptop was not very ergonomic. The bathroom was clean and shiny (good thing), the room itself - not so much. There was more than what I would have expected of "particles" (in lack of a better phrasing) on the floor. Not really sand, but when I stepped on it I could feel that it was not clean. I didn't thing much of it at first, I just assumed that it hadn't followed the mop fully when cleaning was done. I was less happy when I went to bed and observed stains on the bedsheet. The sheet had obvously been washed and was crisp, but there were some rather large yellowish stains that could be seen nonetheless. This made me check the mattress, just to be sure. I wish I hadn't. Someone has either had a severe nosebleed or spilled red wine or coffee at the end of the mattress (beneath the pillow) because I found a red/brown stain as large as the palm of my hand. Not very delicate... So, all in all, cleaning of room has potential for improvement. To balance out I have to give a plus for quiet room. I'd happily return if I get a clean room next time. Hand disinfection could be found everywhere in the common areas and reminders of "disinfect hands" were set up on strategic places, for instance outside elevators, in the main entrance and in the restaurant entrance. Covid precautions seemed to be taken seriously, Breakfast was good. It was served as a buffet, but it was rather spacious and no problem keeping "the meter" between the guests. And I love having a parking area so close.

Simple rooms with few accessories. When booking it says that there are refrigerators in the rooms, but no instead they offered the opportunity to set drinks or food in the refrigerator that is at the reception. Reception is a fusion of reception and bar. If you have to have ice, you have to stand in the same queue as those who will check in. You need to take care of toilet paper and towels your self. If you need to retrieve these, you have to stand in the same queue as those who will check in to the hotel. If you want cleaning, you have to stand in the same queue as those who have to check to the hotel, just to report that the room needs cleaning. The argument was that the limited cleaning would lower the price of the rooms, that's not true. Upon arrival we were given a room without windows (ventilation hatch towards the courtyard at the far corner of the room). We had booked the stay since 1 year back and it was totally unacceptable. After a long wait at reception and queuing in the check-in queue, I had to look at rooms with windows but in worse condition. Even having to discuss this with reception staff in my spare time is not acceptable. I did also sent a request before hand to check in a little earlier, a service that costs 100 NOK for silver members. Upon arrival it was not possible. My friend who stayed at hotel Thon did check in earlier at no extra cost. You can say that I have had a working holiday at Nordic Choice Hotels. The sad thing about this is that I have been a loyal customer for years and this is what I get for my loyalty.

This was my first time staying in a Thon hotel, but it certainly won't be the last. This particular hotel seems to have an older building and a newer building (connected by a walkway), my room was in the newer part. The room was comfortable and a good size, and the hotel offers both breakfast and a light evening meal (all very nice). Location is perfect, only a couple of minutes walk from the station and the town centre, and the airport bus stops right around the corner. Highly recommend.

I stayed at Scandic Bakklandet for three nights when visiting Trondheim with my family. We got a large, top-floor room with enough space for all of us as well as for our stuff. The hotel is nice and modern, and has excellent views of the river from the breakfast room. We really enjoyed the breakfast, it was perfect to start the mornings with a cup of coffee and relax by the window. We were a bit surprise that the breakfast buffet appeared to be almost "normal", despite the covid situation. But the selection and the food was excellent. The location of the hotel is very convenient, with walking distance to pretty much everything there is to see and do in Trondheim.

We came by car and got one of the hotel's parking places, we appreciated that. We enjoyed our three nights stay here, but if you are sensitive to noise you should stay away from the 1st. floor rooms facing the little square (with parking places) by the narrow and neighboring Brattørveita - at least if you prefer to sleep by open window in the warmer summer nights. The beds in our room were very wide and comfortable. Some of the best we have experienced in our travels. Due to the covid-19 situation we had to pre-book our breakfast time, that went fine. We changed our breakfast seating for the last morning due to our need for an early departure. The selection of bread, rolls and spreads were definitely very good, in our view. All staff we met were helpful and service-minded. And we enjoyed the relatively short walks needed to shopping, good restaurants and to famous as well as less famous sights in the city. We enjoyed our time in Trondheim and our stay in this hotel, throughout our visit.

We three stayed here and were initially delighted with the size of our room: plenty of room for two double beds, all our luggage and space to move around without getting in each other’s way. Then we noticed the soap/shampoo/ conditioner supplied was of a superior quality than expected (and available at John Lewis). In the morning, we were most impressed by the breakfast buffet: a selection of meat, cheeses, hot and cold foods, etc. But the thing that most impressed us was the ‘light supper’: each evening a different main course with a variety of salads, soup to start and fruit to finish. Tea and coffee were always available. The atmosphere is calm, yet alive: the close proximity to the concert hall means that there is always something to see and hear. But sounds never intruded into our room which was quiet. Oh, and the beds were so comfortable. We are looking forward to returning again.

Spent 2 nights here including group evening meal. Breakfast and evening meal all very good. There isn't actually a restaurant on site, it's just bar food which is limited and on the pricey side (albeit good quality). Unfortunately the hotel is designed with most rooms overlooking the various internal foyers which was our problem as ours overlooked the function rooms near the entrance. Turns out they had let it out to a party group the 2nd night which was still going at 11.30pm opposite our room. Party due to finish at 1pm so reception gave us another room for the night, no problem but shame we had to call reception to find this out. Good service to resolve it but really with the design of the hotel this is clearly an issue at times. Very good staff and excellent breakfast, full range of food and options and regularly restocked. Location convenient for old part of town and fortress.

When we arrived at out 3-bed familyroom it was not cleaned after previous guests...beercans on the table etc. We complained and after some waiting the room was cleaned. Still we had a terrible night because of high temperature in the room (although we kept the window open and it was february) and an extremely soft bed (same experience as sleeping in a waterbed back in the 80ies). When going to the shower next morning we realised it was not enough towels (only 2), so we had to share. We complained again and were upgraded to a very nice room with a view to the river where we slept well the second night. The breakfast was fantastic, but with the high price we payed to stay in the hotel this is not enough. The second room was great, but probably even more expensive to book. Overall impression: not worth the price, will not choose this hotel next time we visit Trondheim.

I stayed at the Scandic Solsiden for 3 days in February 2020. I selected this hotel because the airport shuttle stopped a few feet from the entrance and the stop to return to the airport was right across the street. This is great for a solo traveler with 3 bags. The airport shuttle was 180 NOK R/T senior rate to the city center. Scandic Solsiden is the first airport shuttle stop as you enter the city center and the last stop when you are returning to the airport. Since I am a Scandic member the vouchers I received paid for my sodas and a snack bag of peanuts. The complementary breakfast was excellent and met the standards of what I expect from the Scandic hotels. The breakfast room is very large and beautiful so there was always a comfortable place to eat your breakfast without being rushed. My room ,623, was large and overlooked the square to the shopping center, love the heated floors in Norway hotels. Because the complimentary breakfast didn’t start until 6:30 AM and I’d be long gone,I was leaving at 5 AM, the hotel packed for me a bottle of apple juice, two ham sandwiches, two hard boiled eggs, an orange and a banana to take with me! I will again select the Scandic Solsiden when I return to Trondheim.
