This is a great place, you feel like you’re staying in a home and not a hotel. The family that owns the property are just great and will help you out in every way that they can, like giving advice on where to go for certain services, airport transfers, etc. They are so nice. They also include a free breakfast with each night you stay, and i would highly recommend their Sri Lankan breakfast, which includes string hoppers, Dahl curry, coconut sambal, 2 eggs, fruit juice and tea or coffee. The property is one of the oldest establishments in hikkaduwa, so you may fee it’s dirty but it’s just old, which is not a bad thing and is the case with most places in Sri Lanka outside of the major hotels. It is about a 10 second walk from the hotel to the beach, and it is right behind funky de bar, which is a great bar, and although it gets quite loud with their parties on Thursday nights, once you are in your room you can’t really hear it. However, they are very upfront about the location and its proximity to the bar so you are not surprised when you hear loud music on Thursday. The hotel is very close to a lot of very good restaurants and bars as well as the shopping district. If you’re a surfer, this is great because it is right in front of the main reef in hikkaduwa and close to many other reefs in the area. Overall I’d highly recommend this place, specifically for groups it would be better, I was solo, but I still met plenty of people at this establishment!

Hotel is in a fab location, straight on the beach! Staff were super friendly and welcoming considering we stayed a couple of nights then went down the coast and then came back to stay again. Rooms are what you pay for them - aircon rooms are pricer however are clean and comfy (although do slightly smell of dampness) depending on what room you get the bathrooms can be a hit or miss in terms of size and cleanliness. However if your on a budget then hansa is the one! Spend almost all my time outside on the beach and in the water than anything else so well worth the stay!

Fantastic new hotel in hikkaduwa. Kodi was a great host, friendly and helpful. The room was really big with a balcony and sea view. Everything was clean, and there is a safe for your valuables. Kodi showed us where they provide free water to refill our bottles from, this is a great idea and I wish more hotels would do it-stop giving out small bottles of water adding to the vast amount of plastic waste and instead provide clean cool refillable water, brilliant! They organised our taxi to the airport. Highly recommended hotel for exploring hikkaduwa, only 1minute walk to the beach.

This hotel is invincible, with a private beach, a lot of reefs on the beach, beautiful photos, and a variety of animals, turtles, crabs, squirrels and more. Personal feeling is much better than Marriott's beach. Marriott prices are also twice as expensive. Hotel facilities are a bit old but still clean, the hotel decoration style is very good and very style. The fly in the ointment is that the socket can not be used, the round hole conversion plug is not suitable, but fortunately we brought the charging treasure. Ps1: Please be careful! Turtles can feed, just feed the seaweed, and there are a lot of water plants on the nearby shoal. Never pick up the seaweed that someone has handed you, or you will be saved. Nothing in this country is free, so be sure to keep it in mind. They like to reach out to the Chinese, and Europeans and Americans don't dare to provoke them. Of course, the reason is that we are too bold to go out and give others the impression that Chinese people can’t spend more money and give money. Don't get used to them. Ps2: When I checked out, I found that someone in the room had come in. The food for the fee was gone. I went out in the morning and disappeared at noon. I told the front desk clearly that we didn't touch it, the food was gone. The front desk said ok, no need to pay. Fortunately, our own things have not been lost. Your own bill must be checked, and the calculation must be considered. Money is not from the wind.

Hotels Near Sunset Coffee Bar In Hikkaduwa Review

3.5/57 Reviews
🏢Hotel: It really has good facilities. Parking is also good. They have a nice swimming pool. Some entertaining stuffs are there, which is very helpful for family or friends gatherings. This place is situated 2Kms away from the main road. Reach to this place is not hard but bit difficult to find 😉 🍗🥙Food: though we booked the place for full board we could have only their dinner (BBQ). With that I would say food is really good. They served chicken and sausage BBQ, toast bread, fried rice(too oily), a salad. And they were ok to serve some food that we brought. Served welcome drink with a piece of butter cake. 🧑🏾‍💼Customer Service: WORST WORST WORST!!! Except the person who put BBQ, all the others are WORST. So called Manager of this place is the meanest customer service person I have ever seen. Don’t know even how to talk to ladies and insulted us. They (2,3 guys) came over to a room where only ladies stayed even without shirts and with cigarettes in hand. They asked us to leave the premises with our pet dog because it was leashed infornt of our room and continues barking (for the jokes done by the workers there). Or they asked one person to stay in the garden with pet. What a PET FRIENDLY place. 👏🏼 (2 days before we go, I personally called and get the confirmation to bring my pet dog, they said “it’s ok”) After the manager told us to leave the place immediately at 1:30am we didn’t stay a single minute inside. After all, the owner called us and told it is not nice for him to let us go at that time, so he asked to stay until morning and go and he apologized on behalf of the manager. I appreciate those words. But we left the place after we called Police (119) and few of them stayed as they couldn’t drive long distance at that time. ❗️Important Tips: Please check your package before you go. As per the owner, through Facebook/ direct contact booking we are getting a different package ( which is the lowest as he said 😂) Tripadvisor booking is another package (he doesn’t know we are directed to Expedia for the reservation) for Booking.com bookings you are getting the best options. 😅🙌🏼 My opinion is think twice when booking 👍

After beeing a bit feed up with all the people in Hikkaduwa and feeling like one (two) out of hundreds in a tourist herd this was an amazing little gem that made us shake off all the ”stress” and feeling all alone in a paradis spot with execellent service and all so fresh (and tasty)seafood! We are definitively going to ”escape” the crowds in downtown hikkaduwa to enjoy this place again😃

Basically the best hotel we have stayed in in Sri Lanka, we will cater to almost all the requirements of our guests, the service is quite professional, and we can taste fresh seafood. The swimming pool is heated for 24 hours. It is the sea and the beach is very good. It is much better than the beach in Unawatuna. It is not recommended to swim. The whole is very quiet, it seems that there are only four households, hidden and quiet, butler service, not too much disturbance, but there will be demand at any time. The house is also very clean and tidy. The meal is very particular. In short, the service is in place. The next time you come to Sri Lanka, you may only come to this hotel for a holiday. Nice one (the best for a sister, or come with my family)

Our family had a pleasure to share the celebration of New Year 2020 in Suite Lanka! Suite Lanka has a true legacy. It was established more than twenty years ago when there were no other hotels in the area. Today, there is a plenty of other accommodations around but still, Suite Lanka sticks out with its beauty and peacefulness. The waves are high and eternal, the beach fine and long, enough space for both restful tourists to wander around and friendly local fishermen to do their work. One morning, we observed how some tourists offered their helping up to pull up the fish nets together with the locals. An act that unifies and creates compassion – very describing for the entire atmosphere around Suite Lanka. The rooms are very clean, beautifully furnished and even if the sea breeze has been merciless for some of the wooden interior, your will undoubtedly enjoy your stay in these spacy rooms. The beds are decorated with flowers and the rooms are prepared for your good night sleep in the evenings. There is a possibility to enjoy the meals in Suite Lanka, carefully prepared on your demand by the elderly, friendly ‘Chef’, or stroll further up on the beach to other restaurants. Finally, it is the staff that really create the special soul of Suite Lanka. All staff members are extremely thoughtful and responsive to your needs. They welcome you from early morning to late night with a genuine smile and do their outmost for your vacation. Roland, the founder of Suite Lanka, leads his staff with kindness and sympathy creating this unique ‘feel good’ residence for all of us. We wanted to prolong our stay and so did a few other families too so the rooms seem to be under high demand. If you manage to book a room, make sure you maximize the number of nights – for sure, you do not want to leave.

Came to the hotel just as the cricket at Galle had been cancelled & the corona virus escalated. The rooms were comfortable & well presented with easy access to the beach. There were three of us in the air conditioned room which was large enough. The only negative was that there was a train line behind the hotel which was noisy but less so after i got my earplugs. The breakfast was ok and we managed to swap & change what we wanted. Please be aware there is no card machine at the place but the wifi is spot on. I have read some unfair reviews on here about the staff. Ok they may have had their feet up but they were all polite and respectful. As the week went the area went into lockdown and despite having a personal issue to deal with, the manager Rajesh was amazing. Nothing was too much. trouble. Honest, hardworking and a thoroughly top guy. Definitely recommend it and will return if i come back to Hikkaduwa.

A 2,5 hour ride from Negombo took us to our first stop in our SL trip - TC in Hikkaduwa. It was really sad to see that lovely place being empty since we were the only guests here. But after the April attacks tourism is slowly recovering and and we accepted that this is how it is gonna be for the whole trip. The rooms were big and clean and the bathroom had all the necessary amenities. The pool was clean with warm water so we’ve enjoyed it a lot. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nothing special but sufficient and not expensive. Sadly due to low season the Thambili Cafe managed by the same guys was closed so no dinner provided. Bottom line...we would recommend this place to our friends hands down

The Oriental Rest is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the wonderful location - right on the beach. Our hosts were truly lovely and breakfast was delicious. We stayed one night in December vacation. Manager was helpful, but his coordination is not much fair. Mostly the kitchen crew do not coordinate with him. For example bed tea was supposed to send to the rooms (All the rooms except cabanas at the river booked by our team) and this fact confirmed by the manager. But kitchen crew did not follow this and we all had to go to the restaurant (little bit far from most of the rooms) with night dresses. Rooms are small but include average facilities. Pool is small and cant swim properly due to the size Restaurant location and food are perfect. It is a nice experience that having a meal on a boat. Restaurant is located to get that feeling. Boat ride is nice and the only bad thing on this is the nasty kerosene smoke exhausted by the engine. Even meals can be arranged to get within the boat ride which is a nice option to visitors. Staff is very friendly and they dd not disturbed us even we sing songs at the restaurant till mid night. Recommend to visit this place who do not except 5 star facilities. This place is worth for the money. We also hope to visit again.

This boutique hotel has direct access to the beach, and a clean sea-facing pool. Receptionist and Woman Manager are both very helpful and attentive to guests’ needs. Laundry service was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast had plenty of variety and options for every palate. However, it would be unfair to future guests if I did not mention the negative aspects of our stay. Our family room was spacious but quite noisy - as it fronted Galle Road. The room was also grubby with a mouldy shower, marks on walls, and stained threadbare towels and pillowcases. What really blighted our stay was the attitude of staff in the restaurant and pool area. There was a touring group of six elderly European women staying in the hotel. They received preferential treatment at the expense of other guests. Despite a very clear sign forbidding the reservation of sun beds, one of the surly staff laid out six towels on the sea-facing lounges. We thought these must be for general use, so we sat down- only to be ordered off as these beds were ‘reserved’ for the group. I mentioned this to the Manager on check out and she agreed that seats cannot be reserved. So we were treated rudely and in a discriminatory manner by this staff member whose hostility throughout our stay was ill-concealed. The food in the restaurant was overpriced and bland. Service was - again- surly and unsmiling. On our second evening it rained just as we were planning to walk along the beach to town. We decided to wait for the rain to stop and meanwhile have a ‘happy hour’ cocktail. One of our party preferred to drink beer. She had brought beer to take to a restaurant in town but decided to drink it while the rest of us had our cocktail. She was told that she could not drink it in the restaurant and had to take it ‘outside’ - in the rain. This was said very rudely. Our cocktails were not just overpriced but absolutely horrible, made with some cheap spirits like arrack. We both felt ill after drinking half a glass. Again the serving staff were slow and hostile. However, the group of elderly ladies was served their wine at lunch and dinner promptly and attentively. I would not recommend the hotel on the basis of differential treatment of guests, slapdash housekeeping, and unpleasant wait staff. This is a shame as the hotel has the potential to be so much more accommodating. The resident tuk tuk driver is fine and our taxi driver booked from the hotel is a great driver, and an interesting educated gentleman.

The owner and his wife are really friendly. Next to the guesthouse he has his own shop we’re you can buy some fresh fruit. If you want a day trip he arrange a Tuktuk for you, the service is great. The room is really not what we had aspected. On booking.com that say that we had a room with sea view, a balcony and a small kitchen. We payed a little extra compared to our other guest houses so you were very excited of all the luxury. When we arrived and they showed us our room it was not what we expected. No windows at all, only 1 and that’s connected to the public area (so no fresh air). In our bathroom we also only had 1 small window but that one was connected to our neighbor bathroom so you could literally smell and hear is someone on the toilet. The balcony, kitchen and sea view are all public areas so keep that in mind.

For our trip in Hikkaduwa this was our first stay for 3 nights. We arrived late in the evening because of our delay on the flight but the staff was there expecting us and with a warm welcome. They served us welcome drinks which was nice and lead us to our room which was the best of their villa. A spacious one with dutch collonial style furniture and decoration. The bed was big and comfortable and the bathroom large with a jacuzzi but unfortunately both jacuzzi and bathroom need some renovations as they looked like left. There was always hot weather and good variety of amenities. The room was on the upper floor which had amazing views of the pool, the beach and the sea which was right in front of us. The breakfst was decent but good enough to keep you for the half of the day. The only dissadvantage was that it was the same every day. Pool looked nice but we didnt use it. The place being a villa had its own area in front of the beach with every day available sunbeds for the guests. The room didnt have tv and the wifi was very week but we come to this place not for the technology. The only minor thing is that the room needs a fridge. Staff was very good, kind and helpful all the time for everything. The area is quiet and very attractive and has markets and restaurants in a walkable distance. Overall a great stay although the area is a little bit more expensive than the rest of south Sri Lanka. We definitely recommend it to everyone for a nice and quiet stay by the beach

I was reluctant about this place as I read a review that you couldn't cook in the kitchen, the staff does all the cooking. Boy was I wrong. This place was amazing. Nestled next to a small hotel, you almost miss it while walking on the beach. But as you approach you find a slice of paradise. Your backyard is the beach. The menu is amazing, but a tad pricey as compared to some of the restaurants in the area. Alot of places to eat on the beach within a short tuk tuk ride or a 15 minute romantic walk on the beach. And the best thing about this amazing place is the staff. Anthony was great and the whole crew made us feel like family. I had a problem with one of the purchases I made at a near by store. Anthony brought me back and got me an exchange even though I had lost the reciept. After 12 days I didn't want to leave. We celebrated my girlfriend's and her twin sister's 50th birthday while there. Anthony arranged two beautiful flower bouquets and some cake. I cannot wait to return. Sri Lanka is beautiful and the people are so nice.

Can't say enough good things about Riff, it was everything we hoped it would be and more... - Perfect location, on a wide stretch of soft sandy beach. Beach in this part part was well looked after by both staff and locals, they really do take pride in it. - 2 mins tuk tuk into the busier parts of Hikkaduwa for restaurants, supermarket, shops (we chose this option but it is also walkable) - Stunning sea views from every room. Rooms were well appointed, a good size and beautifully decorated. Well done to Riff for cutting out single use plastic - water came in glass bottles. Loads of small touches that make this hotel exceptional - Amazing food, one of the best breakfasts i've ever had offering a la carte. Also had lunch everyday which was great and dinner at the incredible roof top bar (as were the views), even if your room is on floor 3, the views at the rooftop were something else! - Staff are wonderful, really personal service, all very friendly, happy and helpful. I'd recommend this hotel in a heartbeat and know that we will be coming back as it's that good. Thanks for everyone at the Riff for your amazing service.

Well, where shall I start. During my trip in Sri Lanka I stayed in many nice hotels, but this one was one of the best. Why? Because of the excellent location! This hotel is so close to the beach and I liked that very very much. We had a room with balcony and sea view. ANd the sunset from here was simply amazing. The rooms where clean and comfortable, the bathroom was a little bit small, but allright. Breakfast was ok, I liked the Srilankan breakfast most. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Especially Amila sir and Chalani helped us with many things and were always in for a nice conversation (thank you, the next day we stopped a bus ourself haha). Also, Chalani arranged that we could stay longer in our rooms the last day, which was very pleasant because we had to leave in the afternoon. Thank you everyone for the pleasant stay and stay safe! We stayed here for 9 days in Feb. The hotel is tucked away down a bumpy little backroad, but dont let that put you off, because once your through the gates you can start to relax. Check in was quick and easy and we were shown to our room which was large and airy and overlooked a beautiful nature reserve lake. The rooms are simply furnished but cover all your basic needs, fridge aircon, tv safe. There was shampoo, conditioner and body lotion in big ceramic dispensers which was a nice eco change from all the little plastic bottles. The rooms were always kept nice and clean and towels, sheets replaced at your wishes. The pool is wonderful and we spent lots of time there, it was so quiet and relaxing and they give you a bell to ring should you require anything. The food was excellent, we ate there every night, sri lankan curry, fish and chips, stroganoff, steak, noodles, you name it, each one was spot on. The staff were always friendly, helpful and accomodating, always happy to help organise trips etc. If i had to give a negative our bathroom got very hot at night, but we just kept the door shut and the aircon on. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this to anyone and thanks again Asian Jewel for a great time.

The beachfront hotel rooms were calm and quiet with a wonderful view of the beach from the balcony. The swimming pool area is very nice and opens up onto the beach. The food was delicious along with Sri Lankan/Western options. I especially recommend fresh shrimps and some spring rolls. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Everything was pleasing except the wifi and tv was not working so well. It's a great option for a calm holiday on the greatest beach in Sri Lanka and close enough to Hikkaduwa central.

The hotel is on Hikkaduwa Beach, about 20 kilometers from the ancient city of Galle. The scenery is incomparable, the swimming pool is beautiful, the rooms on the second floor are almost facing the sea, and the first floor is facing the pool ... the gym equipment is a bit behind ... the breakfast is good, the local meals are mainly ... Dinner buffet at 2,000 rupees per person ... the staff are welcoming ... the surrounding facilities are convenient and the fishery is spectacular, a ten minute walk from the Hikkaduwa bus station train station ... it is very convenient to go to Galle and Colombo ... the most important thing is that the domestic uncles and aunts are very Less ... highly recommended!

Hikkaduwa Saffron Hotel was the first hotel on our trip, so I took a lot of thoughts when choosing it. Those who like antique hotels, please come, the cabinet bed, Luohan bed desk, meet all your requirements for retro quality, full of ancient flavor. However, modern washing and air-conditioning facilities will not make you feel that life is inconvenient, and we chose the second floor room, which is super large and has a good view. When we wanted to change to a double bed, we added a single bed for free without saying anything, so we had a good rest. The service of the hotel is very good, we go snorkeling after checking out, and we can go back to the hotel to take a shower. The disadvantage is that the price is small and expensive.
