Fantastic hostel. My trip to Nepal was my first solo backpacking trip and my first time in Asia so I was feeling a bit overwhelmed arriving in Kathmandu. As soon as I arrived at the Sparkling Turtle Hostel I felt at home as both the staff and the guests were friendly and welcoming. I stayed in Nepal for nearly a month, travelling to the Everest region for 2 weeks trekking followed by a week in Pokhara. I used the hostel as a base, returning after each trip. The hostel owner, Pawan, made the whole month easier, arranging all my travel and got me the most convenient flights in and out of Lukla, saving me hours if not days of waiting around. Even while in the mountains Pawan was my guide on the other end of the phone! As well the travel help the hostel was clean, the food was great, and I met some great people. Hopefully I will make it back to Nepal and will definitely be staying with Sparkling Turtle Hostel again.

We stayed 4 nights in total, both before and after our Everest region trek. Raj made our stay feel like home. The room was beautifully decorated and clean with a super comfortable bed. We enjoyed watching the monkeys from the deck and having breakfast on the rooftop. All the meals were delicious too. The location was great, just a short taxi ride to Thamel and an easy walk to the Swayambhunath Temple, also called the Monkey Temple. Raj suggested an excellent restaurant - so good we went twice. Anything you need he can arrange. You are totally taken care of in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Stayed at the property for 3 days.Since i wanted to spend quality time and not get much into trying to cover up tourist spots so yes this property worked very well in my favor, and it was truly comfortable stay. The property is located just at an amazing location. Your view from the balcony is not blocked by any high rise, infact you can see the valley right infornt of you. a big plus for me. the rooms are exactly the same as shown in the picture. It is neat and clean. love the kitchen as it had everything a kitchen should have. A peaceful beautiful restaurant located at Sitapaila area. It's in between Sitapaila and Halchok, Swayambu. Very beautiful restaurant located inside hotel premises. Garden is really beautiful and there's a seating arrangement outside. The staff needs to be more friendly. At times you may have to call them repeatedly. Ambience wise it's awesome! Vajra first of all offers an architectural feast harmonizing beauty, practicality and safety.Phil Hawes, its chief architect was associated with Frank Lloyd Wright and taught graduate architecture with Bruce Goff, the two great promoters of organic architecture. While building the Hotel Vajra, Hawes synergized the traditions of the pagoda style roofing's of Nepal’s greatest architect Arniko and the use of local materials with the most modern earthquake proof techniques. The mastery of Nepal's highly skilled artisans' community reflects in Vajra's doors and windows which are designed and carved by Utam Raj of Patan. The ceiling frescos of the Great Pagoda Room and pagoda bar are painted by Rinchen Norbu the great Tibetan Master and his associates. Wall frescos in the restaurant are painted by Bimal Moktan the outstanding Tamang Painter. These are some of the features you will discover in Hotel Vajra. The Vajra is situated on the foothills of the Swayambhunath Stupa and its age old pilgrim road, also near the Bijeswori Temple complex, two of the power places of the Kathmandu Valley. The Vajra is surrounded by trees and flower trail gardens, creating a place of serenity and beauty, overlooking the entire Kathmandu Valley up to the snow peaks of the Himalayas. And on any early morning you may join the pilgrims – Nepali, Tibetan, Bhutanese, in-fact, you may see a Buddhist from any part of the world on their ascent to the great 2000 years old Swayambhunath Stupa.BOOK ONLINE

Thamel
Stayed at this nice little hotel for a total of five nights during a two week trip to Nepal. The hotel is in a back street location in the main tourist area of Thamel, about 20 mins from the airport. The surrounding streets are somewhat narrow and 'potholed' and a public bathing site is at the end of the street. However, there are many restaurants in the area, so choice is great if you do not wish to eat in the hotel. The staff here are lovely, very welcoming and always seem pleased to see you and always ask after your day. We returned to this hotel three times during the two week period and each time we were greeted like old friends. Our room was clean, tidy but quite compact and devoid of any storage , although due to our 'nomadic' itinerary, we were living out of our cases, so storage wasn't essential for us. There is no room safe. Note that there is a building site next door which seems to have some strange working hours.......with shovelling of debris late at night and early mornings being a little annoying. Obviously not the hotel's fault but may be worth requesting a room at the rear side of the hotel. We ate a couple of meals in the restaurant as well as the included buffet breakfasts and enjoyed the reasonably priced food. Overall, we enjoyed each stay here and would happily return. Note that most hotels and restaurants in Nepal add 10% service charge and 23% government tax to the advertised prices. Card payments also attract a 4% surcharge throughout Nepal.

Stayed in this hotel for three nights, a very good experience, highly recommended for everyone. Hotel location is good, located on the busy section of Tamil Street, but the hotel room is quiet, inside the garden. Hotel pick-up is very good, it is very convenient to contact Ctrip in advance to arrange. The hotel service staff were very good, especially travel desk boy Bijen Dangol, who was humorous and helpful, and booked a two-day rental car and bus ticket for us. When we left the hotel to Chitwan, we left at 6am, and the hotel also prepared breakfast packages . The hotel's breakfast is rich and varied, very distinctive. The hotel has an elevator, which requires the upper and lower floors. The rooms are not too big, but the price is not high, and the cost performance is still high. The hotel is suitable for children. There is a two-car parking lot at the entrance of the hotel, which is not easy on Tamil Street.

I stayed here for a week on business and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is new, modern, with everything you need to enjoy your stay. The hotel is well-maintained, has plenty of amenities including a spacious gym, wellness spa, pool and multiple options for food and drink. I had access to the M Club Lounge, which was always a pleasant experience and worth any extra cost. I usually started there for evening reception and would end up at the Raksi Bar for a final night cap and snack before bed. The turn down service was always a nice touch to come back to at the room. The Thamel Kitchen has the widest variety of food choices and was always a culinary experience. I didn’t get a chance to visit Edamame but will certainly do so next time. Finally I cannot say enough about the staff...they are INCREDIBLE! Every single one of them, and I interacted with probably close to 30 total, were all friendly and would go out of their way to ensure that I was taken care of and happy. I wish I could name them all but since I spent most time at the M Club Lounge I have to thank Neha, Dhiraj, Bimala and both managers Bijaya and Vicky for their consistently exceptional service. I am looking forward to returning again soon!

We stayed 6 days with Kantipur temple house with our family (parents + 2 adult children). It's a perfect peaceful place to stay in hectic Kathmandu as you can really rest here. No noice will interrupt you. The garden is beautiful, they offer yoga every morning here, and the service is excellent. We were here during colder evenings and every night our bed was headed with a warm pitcher. Breakfast every morning was also a little party, as they offer both traditional as luxurious options such as pancakes, toast, omelet, bacon and yoghurts. They arranged everything we needed and are extremely helpful throughout the hotel. The entire building is a dream, very photogenic and peaceful. Tip: bring your books and a camera here, as you will love to read here as well as to photograph this place.
