We love the location, the spacious rooms, and the fantastic location. We really appreciated the small kitchen, which made it easy to eat some meals in. We loved our morning beach walks, even in the light drizzle we encountered almost daily. Easy to get everywhere. Service is fantastic. Thank you. We will be back in March!

I had room 215 on the water. The stairs lead straight to the room and when you opened up it was allllll ocean; it was perfect. The space is most excellent for one or two people. The king bed is ample with 4 pillows and when you look left its allll ocean! You are on top of the people exercising below and nobody knows, you are all alone in your sky space; its great. The room has a nice little fridge and a TV, 2 lamps, a little table/desk and a safe on a little storage area, there is no closet. The bathroom is new and you can see the ocean from the shower and toilet! The stairs to the beach are almost in front of this room. IMO this and the adjacent room (do not know the #) would be best at this location as they have direct beach views from the beds. The price was more economical on THEIR website than others. Clean space, no sand anyplace. People are exercising and enjoying the beach at this location below the room; there was NOT excessive noise or smells of any kind in my room (as mentioned in another review) I parked on Mission for two days with no problem but there is parking around; just wait (its true.) Surfers are coming and going all of the time. The guy at check in was super nice when I checked in and out too! Uber to Old Town was $15. Walk everywhere- perfect place!

Just had a wonderful night's stay last Wednesday. Fellow older travelers - they say everyone's entitled to an opinion, but please don't book here for the lower rates and then rage that you didn't find a shiny new Hampton Inn with smart, chirpy business managers lined up for you! Some of the criticisms here may be factually true, but you have to realize the beauty of this place is that it is more of a primitive beach shack than a hotel. I took a private room as I didn't want to foist myself on the college age guests - no TV (you have to visit the TV room they have if you want). Security is really basic - the ceiling is covered with bamboo and a wall fan bolted above the bed if you need - but there was something soothing about the wind blowing through the open windows and the roar of the breakers all night. Late that night, went to the sundeck where someone was playing guitar to a group of guests. The staff are friendly and laid back - and I mean laid back! Again, please don't stay here for the price - there are plenty of places around Pacific Beach and San Diego to get standard hotel service. the Beach Bungalow Surf Hostel - if you can enter the spirit of it - is just a very nice escape - from COVID, from politics, from work or the worry of getting work now. It really felt more like I was in a remote place in Mexico than downtown San Diego. Also, no shortage of fantastic clubs and rooftop restaurants within a very short walking distance!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Catamaran Beach Hotel. It was our 50th wedding anniversay and when we arrived at our room, Edith and Anna (hopefully remebering names correctly) had left chilled bottle of Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. It was so inviting and made us feel very special. The whole staff was so gracious to us and the property was beautiful. From the palm trees, beaches lined with umbrellas for sunbathing, the coy ponds, to the McCaw birds out on display each day, it could not have been better. In fact though it was. After leaving San Diego, my phone was stolen and all my bautiful pictures of our trip were gone. My husband, knowing how disappointed I was called the resort near my 70th birthday in March and explained how my phone was stolen. Steve took the initiative to take not one but about 20 beautiful pictures around the resort area including the gorgeous exotic McCaws and texted them to me. This is definately going the extra mile in customer service. I cannot say enough about what these kind gestures meant to us. My husband and I planned a weekend getaway our belated birthday celebration that was to San Diego and decided to change it up of your normal Hilton or more traditional Marriott joints. Moxy San Diego is in the heart of Gaslamp and all the bars and eateries are within walking distance. Check in was actually at the bar - that was different. But we did get drink tokens for being guests. We received several more tokens because we were also in town to celebrate our birthdays. That was excellent and unexpected! The rooms are small but they maximize the space. It was also very clean. I honestly don’t need much except a nice bathroom and cozy bed. I could do without a desk, armchair, and unnecessary furniture. This room provided me with what I needed while remaining cozy. If you want space and have a lot of luggage, this isn’t for you. But I loved the decor and the style. The vibe was very fun and definitely catered to the 20ish-30ish crowd. My husband decided to have drinks after dinner at the bar downstairs. There are board games and other pub games in the area. It was lively but got pretty crowded. We took our drinks upstairs after a while. Pros: walkable area, drink tokens, friendly Cons: parking is steep, smaller quarters/no frills

Ocean Beach
Pros: ok...so not everything is bad about this hotel. I mean, the views from the ocean view rooms with balcony are amazing. They have a terrace area on each of the 3 floors which makes a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or dinner and watch the ocean and surfers. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. They offer free parking and a refrigerator in the room. Cons: During our 3 day stay, there was a man found stabbed underneath the Ocean Beach Pier, 2 ambulances called for fights/victims of the fights, and a car literally racing around the parking lot at 5:00am trying to chase and kill the other homeless people who they apparently had a problem with while those in the parking lot that normally live there we’re trying to hit the car with garbage cans and/or other objects to either antagonize or deter them..hard to tell. Police were literally out there at least 3-4 times per day (maybe more since we wouldn’t have seen them while out for the day). In room phone did not work. When I tried to dial 911 for the car trying to chase and kill people in the parking lot across the street, I found out there was no dial tone and it didn’t work. I was able to call from my cell phone though:) I called the front desk later to let them know. They never did fix it so maybe it’s something they were already aware of? Partying INSIDE the hotel is HUGE!!! So, if you’re planning to sleep, hope you have a VERY high tolerance to loud noises, yelling and dogs barking. No coffee maker and honestly, early in the morning, I didn’t feel comfortable going out by myself to go find coffee. During the daytime it’s a bit better since there are more people around and the people who live on the beach kind of calm down a bit. It’s sad really. (Also, no microwave) There are probably quite a few people living there on the beach that could use some mental health services. No elevator for luggage. Third floor was fine for me because we only had a carry on and backpack, but if you are older or have a family, that could be a problem. For the price they charge per room per night, I expected a much better experience overall.

I was able to book a room at the zoo hostel the day of my visit, which was very convenient. After I checked in, I was offered a home-cooked meal and the company of lots of new friends from all over the world. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. I stayed in a 4 bed room that had bunk beds, a closet, and a desk. It was clean and I had the room to myself. I will say that you can hear other guests walking around outside your room as the walls are pretty thin, but I got the impression people are usually very considerate about noise late in the night. The next morning there were bagels, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, and coffee offered for breakfast. The hostel really felt like it was a big family that lived there. The bathrooms and showers were communal. And the hot water heater was out during my stay, but they were fixing it as I was leaving. When I checked out, the person working the desk gave me advice about what to do for the rest of my trip and helped me research different places around the city. Overall, a great experience!

I loved the room. It was cozy and inviting. The front desk guy was super friendly. I would stay here again. They do require a security deposit of $100 they said it only places a hold on the funds but my account notifies me when funds are paid and it came out. I’ll see after I check out transaction is reversed. There was some water damage on the sink next to the shower from shower spray if the curtain isn’t closed all the way. I wouldn’t have noticed but with the security deposit I wanted it documented.

This place is classic extended stay quality. I’ve been coming to this hotel chain for 20 years and different locations are better than others. Well this location has a desk clerk by the name of Jadixon, and he has made my stay much better through his professional and respectful customer service technique. People like Jadixon put the cherry on top of an already awesome hotel environment. The room was immaculate, the kitchenette clean and spacious, and the location off of Murphy drive is close enough to the 15 to be convenient but far enough not to hear the traffic. Stay here if you like to get your moneys worth!

This is the second trip my fiancé and I have made to Cabrillo inn. It’s a small hotel with a small under ground parking garage (do me a favor and park on the street). The price is pretty good for the location (about a 10-15 min drive to the large mall, SeaWorld, beaches, and the San Diego zoo. Now this is not a 5star hotel however if you plan to walk around and go adventuring rather than spending your trip in the hotel the whole time I think this would work for you.

Just had a fabulous getaway. It has been a rough year with my husband’s passing away. This was my first getaway since that event. Hubby and I had had a wonderful time here on our 34th wedding Anniversary and getaways. Had asked about staying in the last room we stayed in and was told they could see what they could do. I was pleasantly surprised at check in when I got that room. The rooms here are lovely. Due to COVID-19 limitations the restaurant and bar were closed. The onsite cafe is open in the morning. There is also a little quick market by the front desk. The beauty of the hotel’s location are all of the walkable restaurant options. The pool was opened and the hotel had short time outs to clean and disinfect the pool furniture. The hotel had sanitizer throughout the public areas. The rooms had travel disinfectant wipes for anyone wanting to do their own touch up. The staff is friendly. Kudos to Joseph and Sabrina. The hotel location is fabulous. This was a wonderful getaway for me while working through my new normal. Many thanks to the entire Courtyard Marriott family.

I stayed here before an early departure out of SAN and was very pleased with the overall experience. I avoided the $15 parking fee by dropping off my rental and taking the free shuttle from the airport. It ran every half hour but they did require advance notification for trips to the airport since seating was shared with another hotel. Our driver was very personable. Check in was completed via the mobile app and I was able to quickly get my key. I was impressed with the brightly lit and spacious lobby. Once in my room everything was new and in great condition. The kitchenette was well equipped and the bathroom was big with upgraded fixtures. The beds were comfortable with Liberty Station personalized pillows. A large table and lounge chair rounded out furnishings. The spacious closet had wire racks and even included a laundry basket. I enjoyed working out in the two room gym. Cardio equipment was in the next room while the weightlifting equipment in the main room. Breakfast was good but quite busy. Definitely one of the better San Diego hotels I’ve stayed at in a Ling while. Close to airport and downtown were other positives and the parking fee, though an annoying extra, was reasonable in comparison.

The pictures on Orbitz are quite deceiving. First the parking was scarce, narrow and horrible. Second, when we got into our double non smoking room, it smelled like smoke and the windows were wide open at 8 pm with no screens on them letting beetles and gnats in the room. The lamp flickered on and off and only worked when it wanted to. We discovered blood splatter on the wall in the bathroom and the toilet seat was broken. It was super dirty, the bath towels were dingy and warn. The AC Smelled like mildew, Front Desk Staff said they closed soon and no one would be on call for the night. Definitely will not be staying here again, the quality was terrible, definitely not worth the $73 we payed for one night. Do not waste your money here!!

It feels like this place was squeezed into its spot. It’s a small property tucked into a hillside just off the main roads in Mission Bay. It’s a bit difficult and tricky to get into. The property has recently (in the past few years) been reconditioned. There’s parking in front and in two underground garages. Since it was not busy, parking wasn’t a problem. If they were full, it could be challenging. The lobby and breakfast area are sparse, but functional. This is one of the most reasonably priced hotels in the Mission Bay area. The room is quite typical. It’s rather large with a King bed, bed tables, a credenza, writing desk and chair, sofa, mini-fridge and microwave. All is crisp and clean. La Quinta has the usual ‘chain’ food. There is a small efficient breakfast area; busy, but not overly crowded. The breakfast was very typical of chain hotels – coffee, OJ, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, breads, cereals, yogurts, apples & bananas.

Prior to my arrival, I had called the hotel to inquire on the sanitation procedures for the guest rooms and if safety measures such as, wearing masks was strictly enforced. I was assured masks were a requirement at all times in public, common areas and the guest room cleaning process she explained, aligned with what I read online on Hilton.com. Thursday late evening we checked in and was once again assured of all these measures, including all linens and pillows replaced with freshly laundered ones. The next day, I observed quite a few young adults lingering in the hallways and front lobby, including a male Hampton Inn staff member WITHOUT masks, all of whom were being observed by 2 front desk staff who said nothing! When I inquired on the policy, which is actually a state mandated policy, I was told all they could do is remind guests and management is currently not evicting anyone not compliant with the mandate. I pointed out, they were looking at them and said nothing to remind them, I received blank stares and nothing further. Suddenly, the mindset of feeling satisfied and safe from every measure I was told over the phone and during check in immediately turned to an anxious feeling of being in an unsafe environment. How many unmasked people have walked by the same common space in the last hour, possibly sneezing or simply talking to another and spreading germs? I was extremely disappointed to continuously observe this non compliance throughout your hotel and over crowding in the pool area. Zero social distancing implementation. It gets worst! I happen to be going back to my room where I thought would be the safer place to be at. After all, I was assured of the heightened cleaning procedure and partnership with Lysol. Plus, I added an extra layer by also wiping down all touch surfaces and bathroom with Lysol wipes. As I pass the hallway, I observed a room being cleaned and after feeling lied to already about the mandated mask wearing, I thought I would watch a while to feel satisfied that I was not being told more untruths about the room sanitation. The housekeeper had all the old bedding, including pillows on the floor, she was replacing the sheets and I figured everything was being replaced with fresh, untouched linen and pillows. TO MY HORROR, she proceeded to take the pillows from the ground, put new pillowcases on the pillows and put the same, used pillows on the bed and the same comforter that was on the ground back on the bed! Essentially, only the flat and fitted sheets have been replaced. When I asked her if she was the same person to clean my room prior to my arrival, she said most likely. I asked about the pillows, etc and she said they never replace the pillows or the zipped pillow covers, only the pillowcases and sheets. My next move was to ask my son to go immediately to Target to buy a couple pillows, covers and a blanket to use the next few days. What was supposed to be a much needed relaxing break fr

We arrived on March 15 /2020 at approx 10 :45 am were told that there was no rooms until maybe 2pm...We told we could leave our bags in the lobby but when she seen what we had for bags she then said we couldnt leave them there. We said find we will just sit here and wait for a room. Well all of a sudden a room was available. Room 137...well beside it were 2 other rooms and looked like the rooms exploded out side. there was items in front of the other 2 rooms and at least 1 person sitting out there with a husky dog. Homeless camp i guess. Anyway they loaded up there shopping cart and left. The Room was clean but very well used and not been updated since the 70's...No coffee maker or microwave in room. went and asked about it they told me to go to the gas station down the street and if i bought a package of gum they might let me use the microwave. coffee was in lobby..Also when we got in our room was told we would get towels later that day. well after 5pm i went to lobby and asked about the towels. they brought some over. Our flight back to canada was on Tuesday ...Tuesday am at 1am we awoke to water dripping. well i got up and here there was a waterfall of water running down the window. i had towels and garage cans and ice bucket and cups all sitting on the window ledge to collect the water. I said something when i went to get coffee after 7 am and. oh the clerk made a note of it. when we went over to wait for the shuttle to the airport we said something and the girl said oh they had there handy man seal that window well my husband said it wasnt the window that was leaking the water was coming down the wall . and it was running down the wall and across the floor. This room is the way i remember Motel 6 looked like in the 70's.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few days to take a break from our normal work-from-home routine, and we had a very relaxing and comfortable stay! You can tell the rooms were renovated earlier this year, which made us feel a lot more comfortable from a sanitation perspective given everything going on with COVID, and there are social distancing signs and sanitation stations located throughout the hotel. As with any hotel, there are understandable amenities that are unavailable such as room service and daily housekeeping (which I actually feel is a positive thing unlike another person's review, as I personally prefer minimal contact in my room), and the hotel is in such a convenient location that there are tons of dining options within walking distance or a short drive away. Also wi-fi is free if you are a Marriott Bonvoy member and book directly on Marriott's site! There's also street parking available or lower-priced parking garages very close by, which the friendly staff at the hotel let us know when we asked about the options. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting from out of town or looking for a local staycation!

I have stayed at The Guild several times now for business travel and I am happy to come back again and again. The service is impeccable. I really feel taken care of by the staff in this hotel with them handling even the small details. The design of the Hotel is quirky and appreciated and sticks with the theme of the Tribute Hotels well. This building was a former YMCA retrofitted to be hotel rooms and the design thoughtfully incorporates that theme without it being in your face. The color scheme and layout of the rooms is calming. The bathrooms are especially nice- walk-in showers with wide doorways and room to move is appreciated. Be aware that some of the smaller rooms do not have wardrobes- instead you hang things on exposed bars in the room. If this bothers you then you should book the second tier room. You also need to request things like an iron or tea kettle which they bring efficiently. For those who need real quiet for sleep ask for a room overlooking the back of the hotel or courtyard (unless there is a large party happening over the weekend). The workout facility is nice for this size of hotel. The food is very good with nice choices for lunch and dinner. My only complaint is if you have restricted meal requirements the selection at breakfast is a little too small. Some simple bites to go with the swanky menu would be appreciated for those who travel frequently. The hotel is easy walking distance around much of the downtown and to the ocean. Great for business travelers with easy access to meetings and to highways for getting around town. Also great access to public transportation. Overall highly recommend the hotel especially if you want a high level of service and if you appreciate a boutique feel to your hotels.

Downtown San Diego
Overall, our experience was good. It is by far the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. That's not a huge problem overall, especially given the affordability, but I think they could do better with areas to set items on, especially in the bathroom. Perhaps a shelf or two for toiletries, a towel bar or hook closer to the shower, and a place to set clothing on. I ended up having to put my clothes, towel, and toiletries on the floor or on the toilet (yuck). It was just kind of awkward at times. The walls are pretty thin, so we heard our neighbors flushing/showering. The hotel was overall fairly quiet, but I can imagine that might change if you had noisy people nearby. The free coffee and pastry at the next door coffee shop was a nice touch, however, we weren't aware of it until morning #2. It would have been nice to know this on the first morning, as it would have saved us some breakfast $$. The location was great and the room was clean. Do yourself a favor and grab some bottled water at the nearby Rite-Aid to keep in the mini fridge, if you don't want to drink the tap water. They do offer a 1-liter bottle if you'd like for an extra $3. It's no Hilton or Marriott (they are way more expensive in SD), but I would stay here again, should I find myself in the area. There are many restaurants close by, and the trolley stop is a quick couple-block walk away.

Mission Valley
Best hotel to stay with families and service provide by Jiayi (Gigi) team is really excellent and made our stay very pleasure. Location of this hotel is very good that target, Ralphs, Whole foods are very nearby. More secured. Note parking facility is paid service here but still the room is less expensive when compared to other hotels, Plus parking lot is gated , so even more safe.

San Diego Intl. Airport Area
My husband and I stayed at The Pearl for an end of summer stay-cation and we loved it so much we didn't want to leave! On the day of our check in, they texted us all the information we needed to be informed on their precautions for Covid-19, and all the changes they have made to maintain safety. There were sanitizing stations throughout the lobby and hotel and all the staff were masked and very friendly. They also provided a box within our room of sanitized items we might need throughout our stay. All of their procedures made us fell very safe! Our room was so beautiful and cozy we hardly left it! We also spent time by the pool (which is saltwater!) just enjoying the chills vibes and swimming. One of the nights we were there we had the pleasure of dining at their restaurant, Charles and Dinorah, and the food was sublime! We enjoyed the charcuterie board as a starter and then had the burger and the sandwich, ending with the date cake. All of it was delicious and the servers were very friendly and attentive. My favorite was definitely the board and the sandwich! All in all, The Pearl feels like a luxury home away from home! The intimate chill vibes of the hotel make it enjoyable and the friendly and attentive staff make it a place we will want to visit again and again!
