Intown to celebrate my birthday. We arrived about 2.5 hrs early before check-in time. I knew the room wouldn't be ready and I was okay with that. I had a special request put in for a pet free room and Matt went above and beyond on making sure that we had a pet free room, due to allergies from pet dander. The room was nice, but you can tell some areas needed a little TLC/Updating. I was told Marriott took over the Property about a month ago, so I'm assuming Marriott will remodel the property to their standards. Tameka at the desk is amazing, excellent customer service. MATT and TAMEKA, YOU GUYS ROCK! They do have a pool on the 4th floor. (Dusk to Dawn) Microwave on the 9th floor for guest use They have a restaurant called Juliette's (Seafood) looks nice. (Didn't Dine) I had reservations outside of the property. The Fitness Center 24hrs is nice. Kudos to the Valet Department. At Check-In on Friday, there was 3 weddings and guest coming in town for a Concert at a near by arena. It was a madhouse, out there and the Valet team handled it with poise, like they been there done that. The didn't panic or seemed overwhelmed. Cons of the stay: There was times that, the front desk phones would ring w/o an answer. I had to use the Marriott mobile app to chat with the staff when I had to request anything or ask a question. I received quick responses that way The hot water in the shower was hit or miss on the first night. ( I didn't complain, I figured it was because everyone was using the showers, to prepare for the wedding events.) My suggestion: Get rid of the glass in the rooms that cover the tables. Even though Housekeeping cleans the rooms it makes the room look like it was cleaned properly. I know you guys were just bought by Marriott, but these are just my opinions. I'm pretty sure Marriott will change a lot moving forward.

Stay at the Hyatt! What a disappointing/frustrating experience. We’ve been Hilton Honors members for over a decade and can’t remember anything this bad. Seriously thinking about switching to another hotel chain. Upgrade, NOT! We got an email asking if we would like one and clicked yes. That turned out to be a mistake. When you do so you no longer get the opportunity to choose your room in their app. Seriously, who would pick room 13 on the lowest floor. (Never let them pick it!) When you request an upgrade they send you a reply with some mumbo jumbo about your upgrade being assigned at check in, that didn’t happen. In fact at the front desk when we got our room assignment the lady told us the hotel was full. I asked, then why send us an email about an upgrade…no response. I felt like I was being lied to and outside of stepping away and calling for another room there is no way of knowing for sure. And knowing they were lying would have brought out the worst in me. When we lost our opportunity to pick our room in the app, they assigned us a handicap accessible. We were in Jacksonville for a fitness festival, probably one of the most least likely couples needing such a room! And what a joke that turned out to be. The grab bar in the shower looked like it was about to fall out, the sink was broken where it attached to the wall and the balcony would have made me mad if I was in a wheelchair! The balcony had a solid concrete wall with a nice view to valet parking, if you could standup to see it. Seriously I thought how inconsiderate especially since the floor above had a wrought iron panel that someone in a wheelchair could at least see through. Breakfast turned out to be another disappointment. As a Diamond member we get a $15 per day food and beverage allowance. We found out the buffet was $22.50! Of course it was, but on weekdays you could order off a menu where a breakfast sandwich cost $12, and as we learned on Saturday it’s buffet only. I’m sorry, but for $22.50 I want eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles or something other than scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage links! We’ve stayed at Hampton Inn’s where the breakfast is free with better options. We didn’t do breakfast on Sunday, we checked out 2 days early and left! Our friends stayed across the river at the Hyatt and that was a nice place with none of the issues we had. Downtown Jacksonville is nice, one of the nicest we can remember visiting recently that also felt safe. We will come back again, probably next year for the fitness festival but we won’t stay a the Hilton Garden Inn Riverfront!

The air conditioning unit broke overnight during the first night of our stay, but we initially thought perhaps we had the fan on by mistake. We didn't completely realize that the ac unit was completely broken until the next afternoon. Since we were in Jacksonville, FL, that was a major concern. We informed the front desk staff of the issue before we left for dinner at 7pm, and they promised to contact maintenance. When we returned a few hours later, no progress had been made on the air conditioner and maintenance had not been contacted. A staff member came to our room, asked what was wrong with our ac unit, and we reiterated that it did not work and has not worked for over 24 hours. After he fiddled around with the thermostat, we ended up changing rooms at 10:30pm, which was very frustrating. After speaking with front desk staff the following morning, we were told that we would be refunded the cost of two night's stay to make up for the inconvenience. However, since the accommodations were considered an advanced purchase (aren't all hotel stays an advanced purchase?), that it would take at least two weeks for the funds to be returned to my credit card. The only reason I left a 2 rather than a 1 for my satisfaction of the experience is due to the woman who staffed the from desk, who immediately offered a refund for our troubles. I will likely never book a stay with this hotel again.

If you are a night shift worker, working on a short-term contract in Jacksonville, this place will be an absolute nightmare to live in!!! I have explained to the front desk staff several times that I sleep in the day time. My shifts are long and hard and falling asleep after being awakened by the banging (yes they bang on the door and shout "management" or "front desk" or "housekeeping") is quite the challenge. For this reason, I have asked not to have housekeeping. Of course, that request has not been honored at all and I still get the loud banging on the door. Last week, the housekeeper knocked on the door and attempted to open it 3 times in a 15-minute time frame. So far today, the door has been knocked twice. The staff just doesn't seem to care. I've given up on asking for any assistance from the front desk and will resort to writing poor reviews until they lose money over it. I have stay at other ESA properties and the staff is usually quite accommodating and understanding. Not here! I pay to stay here and shouldn't be harrassed and inconvenienced on this level so frequently. If you work night shifts and are on the market for a place to rest between shifts or to live away from home, this is not it at all. Stay away and save yourself the headache! Stay away!

First, this is the first review I have ever written. Had the opportunity to see Elton John in Jacksonville, had the opportunity to stay at the Southbank Hotel at Jacksonville Riverwalk, had the opportunity to meet Washington who works at the Southbank hotel! I assume Washington works as a valet but is so much more than that one word. As Elton would sing Someone say my life tonight. He went way above his "job". He was totally genuine, ears and eyes open to what was going on around him...just an outstanding human straight from the heart. I use to work in recruitment at Sea Island, GA. I definitely would be trying to hire Washington and Zachary from the bar! Looking for a reason to go back to Southbank Hotel Jacksonville Riverwalk. Washington gave my husband and I his personal phone number so we will be making sure he is working on our next stay. Let's go Jaguars. Good luck to you, Washington and Zachary. God Bless.

We have stayed at the HGI Southbank many times over the past 2 years, Our daughter goes to a private University close to Jacksonville and the HGI is our go to place to stay due originally to it location in relation to the school, but over the years, there has been one big consistent feature on every one of our visits and that is the night shift Asst Manager Cillia. Im not sure of her official title but I can tell you that who ever is in charge of the HGI, should recognize that Cillia goes well above her job discretion to make her guest accommodated and happy. There have been too many request from myself and our family (we are Hilton Diamonds Members for years) and she always does everything with in her power to accommodate us and make us feel valued as a customer. My comments are genuine and sincere, she makes the difference for us. On my last stay, she, as always finds a fan for us to take to our room because we like the white noise in the background. She always bottled waters waiting for us as we check in, she knows our name and recognizes us and addresses us professionally and friendly. Because of this, we will stay no where else but the HGI Southbank in Jacksonville Florida. In closing, GREAT JOB HGI for taking the time to hire that right kind of people that enhance your establishment as well shine a positive light on the Hilton Hotel brand. We stayed here as it was the closest o the Mayo Clinic and we are not from the area. I made my reservation online and stated we needed a mobility disabled room and would be there at 5:00 p.m. We got there at exactly 5 p.m. The gentleman at the desk look up at me and said our room wasn't ready and we could sit at the bar and have a drink while waiting. I told him we don't drink and my husband had procedure and cannot. He said well we've been checking people in all day. I asked for a restaurant nearby, as we were exhausted. He recommended the MBrokers at the Mayo. BIG MISTAKE! We went there is it was over priced and limited options unless you like seafood. Now for the hotel. We got back after a very poor dining experience and were told they had a room on the second floor ready, they had already told us they were working on a room on the first floor. I asked what happened to the room on the first floor they said they were working on. The gentleman quickly found another room on the first floor. He said he would add two free breakfast for our trouble. While the room had a low profile shower there were no handicapped rails on the toilet or anywhere in the shower and no shower chair no shower for my poor disabled husband who is also on oxygen. We didn't sleep all night as the mattress was the hardest either of us had ever had to sleep on, it was like sleeping on the floor. Now for the breakfast, I went up to the cafe, order and like some other Marriott's I've stayed at it was a Starbucks which we just can't drink. I ordered a light roast coffee and it was quite bitter, so I threw it out. My breakfast sandwich very good. The following day I saw a notification from AX and it stated there were two charges to my account one for $20 (an incidental fee that they put on your account in case you order something, no idea) Then another fee of $30.00 for breakfast that was our consolation prize for not having our room ready. I was extremely upset called AX disputed the charges, and also the hotel to let them know what they had done! Very snobbish, no doubt because they thought we were hicks from Vermont. We are business owners!

I live in Georgia, and I was scheduled for out-patient surgery in Jacksonville. I chose this hotel for its location. The service from Debbie and Terah at the front desk was extremely accommodating and professional. The coffee/tea served in the lobby 24 hours is excellent - and the breakfast served from 6-9am in the same area was well-stocked with Continental Breakfast items. The only hot food I noticed available was toast you make yourself. Every area of the hotel - the lobby, breakfast area, hallways, elevators, and pool area - were all very clean. The pool provides a chair-lift for handicapped access into and out of the water. Our room was spotlessly clean. The thermostat is located on the wall, so you can set the room to a specific temperature. Very comfortable bed. Lots of pillows. Great HD TV. Keurig brand coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge were clean and worked well. The hotel was quiet, and the parking lot was well-lit. All rooms are accessed via elevators, from the hotel lobby. Excellent hotel!

When booking the hotel I booked 2 rooms for a 1 night stay. During the online booking process I gave my credit card information because the booking that I did stated that payment was to be made in full for a 1 night stay at time of booking. Right away after booking I receive a confirmation stating what my total was, then stated "less deposit amount"(amount that was to be charged, amount "due at Check-In" $0.00. It also stated that "The same credit/debit card that was used to pay for the room at time of booking must be present at check-in. Followed by "Funds for at least the 1st night need to be collected at the time of booking". So with all of that being stated on the confirmation from the hotel would you expect that your card would then be charged at time of booking for your stay?? YES! So we show up for check in only to be told that we have a balance. After traveling hours all day I am now tired and not ready to deal with this. The lady at the desk was kind but honestly seemed very unsure of exactly what she was doing. I proceed to explain to her that this was paid at time of booking. Was told that it was not. Showed my confirmation, and was still told it was not. I should have just went to another nearby hotel at that point. Had to take time to search my credit card history to find out that my card did not appear to be charged. Now is that portion my responsibility(yes it is). However. For them to send out poorly worded confirmations is not at all proper. I definitely feel mislead. Then my receipt from check in stated "Deposit Transfer"? "Charges" $0.00, and" Credits"(amount that I thought was paid at time of booking)? With a "Balance" of negative the amount thought paid? So that alone would also appear as if I had paid the amount due at time of booking. After the lady at the front desk asked for assistance from another staff member with my check in(and I paid at check in) I was just ready to get my room for the night. The quality of the hotel has seemed to go down over the years we have been there. The rooms were okay minus the shower water not coming out well. In the morning we were just ready to leave and get back on the road. Proceeded to the front desk for check out. Of course I was thinking that all I needed to do was return my room key and be on my way....but that was not the case. A different lady at the front desk then told be that I HAD A BALANCE!! Are you kidding me? I just laughed at that point. I told her that their was no way I had a balance. I just went through the ringer at check in about the amount "owed", and was not going to be told again that I owed. The lady at the desk had to call for assistance with the matter. After that call I was told that I was good to go. I feel as if the front desk staff needs more or better training in regards to the processes that take place at the front desk. This stay was such a headache. I will be looking elsewhere when needing to stay in Jacksonville again.

We have stayed at this property many times. Unfortunately, they are continuing to use covid as an excuse for charging full price, but not providing many services, and then only if you ask. At check-in you are provided a paper informing you that housekeeping is available only on request; the concierge lounge is closed (Is there some reason that access to the lounge by key cannot be provided so guests can at the very least get water, drinks or coffee?), and that breakfast is available in the restaurant from 7:00 to 12:00 (so you can provide breakfast in the restaurant but cannot open your concierge lounge?). The breakfast hours don't accommodate business travelers, since by 7:00 a.m. most are checked out. If you are not going to open your lounge for business travelers to get coffee, then make it available elsewhere for guests earlierthan 7:00 a.m.. Marriott appears to be maximizing their profit with minimal staff and minimal amenities/services, while failing to meet the needs of guests, and continuing to charge full price for rooms. The time has long since passed to start providing the service and amenities that were once associated with all full service Marriott properties, especially since Florida has been open for business for over a year. Alternatively, just shut down the property as it is most certainly not a full service property and is on par with a Courtyard or Fairfield. Stay elsewhere if you are in the area!

In spite of Hotels.com giving this property a 6.2 rating, this was one of the worst motels I've ever been to. They have a nice sign out front, and the lady at the front desk was friendly and helpful. That's where the good part of this property ends. We got to our room, and the door looked like a door from the Disney movie "Monsters Inc." It was all scratched up, and there were shady characters lingering around the parking lot. We entered our room to find a dirty, old room with a little mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. There were stains on the walls and towels. There was no carpet. The television wouldn't work. The clock was broken, and there was no phone to call the front desk and complain. The room was very scary. But I will say that it was pretty quiet even though we were facing the interstate. We immediately called Hotels.com to cancel our room and get a refund, and they said they would if the hotel agreed, and I had to email Hotels.com the name of the employee who agreed to give us a refund. Two weeks later, we still have not gotten a refund. As we checked out, the nice lady at the front desk said she had seen ************ at other motels on the Dix Ellis Trail exit. I would avoid this area of town!

We traveled to Jacksonville to attend a funeral. We decided to check out Candlewood Suites after a recommendation from friends. As we entered the property we noticed it was clean, litter free, with ample parking. We went to the front desk where we were greeted by Debbie. Debbie was not only knowledgeable about the property, but she was friendly and welcoming. She showed us two different rooms and we selected a suite. We also give them 5 stars for being pet friendly. The room was large and smelled clean. There was a full size refrigerator, sink, a 2 top stove, full size microwave, dishes, silverware, and large desk/ countertop which was quite useful. The bathroom was extremely clean and stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion. The separate bedroom was perfect and the bed was super comfy. The hotel was quite and peaceful. Debbie at the front desk also recommended several restaurants which delivered to the hotel and we found that to be quite convenient. We will definitely return!! A Happy Guest

The front desk clerk did not know the hotel's policies not could she understand well enough to know what her customers needed but she was friendly. The beds were comfortable with two pillows only which were not the best, clean room except for one dead bug in the room, the door did not seem to lock but the nice maintenance man checked it and it did. The shower either only had hot water or barely any running and the sink only had cold water. The remote needed to be wiped down. No coffee or breakfast was available in the lobby. The restaurant and lounge "The Red Gill" was fabulous with very good food and nice servers. Very good location connected to the hotel. The people working at the hotel were nice and friendly. I had to wait 30 minutes me and two other people only ahead of me) to check out and the same front desk clerk seemed confused and lost.

The good news: the bed is comfortable, the room furniture is of good quality and the staff is friendly & helpful. The bad news: paper-thin walls & ceilings and a noisy hotel shuttle van means you'll be awakened numerous times each night during your stay unless you have earplugs or a sound machine. I stayed two nights in mid December. Both nights, I could hear people in neighboring rooms chatting and their television stations booming as if they were in my room. One night the inhabitant of the room above me obviously decided to use the restroom at 3 a.m. and I could hear the thumping of feet as he/she walked and even heard their bed springs creak when they returned to bed. And WORST OF ALL, the hotel has a shuttle that drives guests to the airport frequently. Unfortunately, each time the van leaves, it backs up setting off a beep-beep-beep warning signal that resounds right into any room on the front side of the hotel. The shuttle appears to have its first run at 5:40 a.m. (since that is when the beeping awoke me both days) and then repeats twice per hour thereafter. It is like you are in a bad dream...trying to doze off only to have the beeping occur over & over again. I am not a light sleeper...I am a world's traveler. But this hotel's noise level means I won't return as a guest despite the good staff, nice furnishings and pandemic-lowered prices.

I can not say enough good things about this hotel! We came at least 5 times in the course of 2 years felt my mothers surgeries at Mayo Clinic. Not only did they exceed expectations in customer service- they made us feel like family!! I was soo pleased with how attentive the staff were and how easy it was to schedule our shuttle drivers to Mayo (not due if they are doing them any longer). We were soo thankful for everyone that helped us flying this time. Not only did they provide shirley service but they wheeled my mother up to the room on more than one occasion after an appointment or a release from surgery. Thank you for everything

This place is amazing for a few reasons: 1) location is spectacular with several restaurants within walking distance; 2) rooms are comfortable and immaculate; but most of all, the hotel personnel are incredible. We walked in exhausted from driving 20hrs and Andy Preslar said "I'll take care of you" and he did including getting us settled in record time and enlisting Steffan to help us park our U-Haul trailer and our truck in a great spot. Then the next morning, someone had taken the hairdryer out of our room and at 4:30AM, Beverly knocked on our door with a hairdryer in hand and a beautiful smile on her face! Kudos to upper management for recognizing the value of great employees and taking the time to hire the best!

So we are on the road at least 21+ days a month. I know what to expect at each level of hotel/motel accommodations. We are a top tier Diamond with this chain as well. This location service and experience was so under par that it's worth noting. Started by calling (2/14) as we drive a truck and always ask about parking accommodations. Very nice in directing us where to park. Came and parked, checked in and mentioned we have a service dog. She immediately said I need to change your room to a pet room. I responded - he's not a pet but a service dog. She said yes but they can only go in pet rooms. So someone needs to educate your front desk that a person with a service dog is not to be set apart and treated differently and put in rooms on floors and sections that are limited. (By ADA standards) But for the sake of not arguing I let her change my room. Room is basic, slight smell, but we immediately notice there's 2 pillows on our king bed. Like the tiny - half the size of standard pillows No shower curtain as well. So we decide to go to dinner and plan on going by front desk and ask for more pillows and shower curtain. We did so and she told us no to both. I respond the curtain helps us not make a mess of the bathroom - if you don't care - I don't care. The pillows is another matter. I have neck and back issues and for my comfort we need more than 2. She says I don't have any more pet rooms. I'm not asking to change rooms - go into another room and get me some of their pillows. I can't do that she says. Are you full - no we are only at 50%. Ok so there's rooms with pillows? Then she says oh wait we have another pet room with 2 double beds - you can change and I won't charge you more for 2 beds. Can you imagine my face? I said I don't want the different room - I want the pillows only. She huffs and puffs and says she's going to a room to get pillows. I ask for 3 I'm not getting you 3. I'll get you 2. We are Diamond with Choice hotels - And having responses like this makes me crazy. I didn't go crazy on the major stuff. I asked for pillows so I can sleep better. It's so funny they have a sign on the bathroom counter that says if you forgot something let us know. We want your stay to be comfortable But when I ask for more than 2 pillows on a king bed - that was crazy. And she made a point not to fulfill my request of 3 pillows. But one less. Great you win. Pillows are easy requests to make a regular paying guest happy. Not to mention the violation of ADA standards with guests of special needs. Refusing to accommodate someone with a simple - EASY request is simply bad business. Yes I will be looking at ihg, Wyndham, best western etc before I look at choice hotels tomorrow night.

I wasn't expecting this motel to actually be that good since I don't have good luck with econo based hotels but this room blew me away for the quality I got for free using points. Everything looked new and nice, TV had DirecTV so you can always find something on, the laminate floor was actually pretty nice, and the bathroom has a nice big shower that has some really nice tiling. For the age of this property, the managers know how to keep it up!

I had a very short stay at this Residence Inn. The location was convenient to UNF and the Town Center where I had meetings. I arrived at the property very late and received a great welcome from Brian at the front desk. The room was large and clean and well laid out and appointed. I had to leave very early the next day, so I pretty much just set the alarm and went to bed. Unfortunately that is when the drill team started practicing upstairs. I’m sure the people did not mean to stomp around, but the sound carried clearly. I highly recommend getting an upstairs room to avoid being the stompee vs. the stomper. I eventually got to sleep but drill team practice resumed around 4 a.m., 30 minutes before my alarm time. I just got up and started getting ready early. So, the location was great, the front desk was great, and the room was great. The soundproofing is just not good. Again, get a second floor room, and you should be fine.

Stay away!

The location of the hotel is 8 minutes drive from shopping mall, free parking. The room is not too big, the bed is very soft and the bed is a duck down duvet. Basically it is clean and tidy, but the hangers in the closet are dusty, equivalent to a domestic 3.5 star hotel!

I’m living here with my little family, so far it’s been a month. I love the staff, especially Marley, she is so friendly and helpful with everything I need. All the staff members at the front desk are awesome, Even the housekeeping make you feel at home. The cost isn’t too bad especially if you’re staying long term. I’d recommend this hotel any day!

We went down for a funeral and were planning to stay 3 nights. We were driving down and tried to check in about 1 pm as the check in was listed as 3. The woman at the counter told me there was no possibility to check in until 3 or even later. She offered to call me when the room was ready, I was waiting at the Sam's Club near the hotel until 2:45. The clerk said it still wasn't ready. After finally checking in we went to the viewing. We arrived back to the hotel around 8p and there were no less than 7 Jacksonville PD / Duval County Sherriff vehicles at the hotel. The next day we returned from the funeral and a family get together around 10p and another 7+ PD / Sheriff vehicles at the hotel. We checked out one day early due to all the police.

I would give this hotel a zero if it were available. The hotel was called direct to make a reservation for an employee that would be in the area for training. A transfer to a “reservation” line was made. The details of the nature of the visit were made explicitly clear to the reservation personnel. All details were discussed and the reservation was made. Upon arrival, the employee was unable to check in despite having all necessary information (confirmation number, company credit card, etc). Employee spent over an hour at the front desk attempting to work out the situation. Employee boss was contacted who attempted to also resolve. The hotel was unwilling to work out the situation despite the employee having a state issued identification, a company credit card issued in same name matching all reservation information given to the reservation personnel at the time of booking. Absolutely no attempt was made and the staff was incredibly RUDE from the first encounter with the employee. After over an hour, the employee was instructed to walk out. Employer asked for a cancellation email and was told there was no authorization for a refund. Really? Attempted to check in and denied and you think it’s going to be paid for. Pass this hotel up and go down the road. It will be worth your time and sanity. Employee was able to secure a room just down the road and check in within 10 minutes with the SAME set of circumstances and had NO issues. Very disappointed and will pass this brand hotel in favor of the one who provided EXCEPTIONAL service just moments away.

We were on our way home and choose this based on average reviews, just needed a place for overnight without robbing the bank! We have not done a road trip in several years, and what I found, Florida average hotels are not up to standards at all off interstates! I live in Florida, and I will say, the hotels in many cases are ripoffs for what you get! True, we have been open more after Covid, but they definitely are not cleaned to that protocol! The outside looked fine in front, shrubs etc. trimmed. The pool area looked good, these are the positives. The bed seemed newer and was comfortable. Now negatives, staff not friendly, room was nasty dirty, used wet wipes to clean off counters etc. The floor in bath area had not been mopped in who knows when!? Your shoes stuck to it, gross! Then the carpet was so dirty, my husband’s feet were black as well as bottom of my shoes! He just finished cleaning our shoes when we got home! The toilet ran all night, yes, told desk person in a.m. This hotel is used a lot for construction workers so it seems, as they hang out drinking & smoking on staircases after work. Also, seems to be some long term clients that have dog running loose, tried to get in our room when we opened the door?! Walls are thin, you can listen to Rap music! Also, need to take off web free breakfast and there is no vending machine. With TLC, this hotel could be brought up to standards & is a better choice than the other 2 at this interchange. The location is good with plenty of restaurants and shopping plaza, all seems pretty new. Clean it up and get rid of the rif raf!

Huiko most recently ensured the safety and well-being of his guests by ensuring all entrances were in proper working order. To gain entry into building you have to have your key card. He interacts with the guests to make sure your stay is good. They inspect the rooms in a regular basis. His staff from front desk to housekeeping are all professional but very informative and friendly. They routinely keep hallways clean and disenfected. Rooms are cleaned thoroughly after each turnaround. Great Kitchenette. Laundry room vending machines close proximity to stores and transit. They allow pets. There are a lot of families with children and older guests as well. Highly recommend.
