It was tremendous moments in this ryokan, especially with kindness and warm service from host, staffs and even price is very reasonable. Dinner is really great for tasting real local cuisine. And breakfast is traditional japanese home foods and great as well. Room is very clean and tide, host’s explain is good enough to understand how to use facilities. They have 4 bathing rooms( 2 inside, 2 open air ), you can check availability from the tv screen in your room. So no need to book. Pick/Drop service available, you just need to let them know your train ticket schedule. They have train time table, so You just can ask them and will get clear information. Recommend to walk around ryokan, there are many spots and small roads that is good to take a picture. For Onsen, temperature is just good for all, and great to enjoy bath. For questions. You just can ask to host. She’s really really kind. Highly recommended.!

This is the first time we visited traditional Ryokan. Hotaru is about 10 minutes drive from Yufuin station. You can call them for a pick up shuttle service. We stayed in a room with own private onsen. They do have two outdoor public private onsen, if your room doesn't come with one, you can go outside to enjoy without sharing with strangers. They also have public onsen for male and female (separate) if the private ones are occupied. As the location is away from the main area, you are very much confined to the Ryokan, not bad, for relaxation. They do have free fast wi-fi so you are not totally cut off from the outside world. Dinner and breakfast were good. Very hospitable, typical Japanese service. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I would highly recommend giving this place a try.

This was a lovely place, even if you are not a huge cat person. The cat cafe is separate from the guestrooms but you can pay additional (1000 yen) for evening and morning access to the kitties. The rooms are clean and have everything you need but not overly fancy. If it can be cat themed, it is! The breakfast and dinner were both lovely with the nicest people (even the breakfast is cat themed!). The private onsens were very nice as well; we enjoyed the outdoor one very much! The cats are very well cared for and friendly (except for Koharu, but you are advised of the personalities of every cat clearly when entering!) and love the cat food treats (be sure to ask for some cat food!). Overall I thought it was a very nice place to stay for a night and would recommend it highly!

Location: The Villa is located in the middle of two train stations, Yufuin Station and Minami Yufuin Station. It takes around 10 mins to get there from Yufuin Station by Taxi. Not too ideal if you plan to get there on foot with luggage. Room: We stayed in the dadaroma and we were delighted to see the view of our room. We could see the front yard while in the bath tub and there were another private hot spring pool in the backyard facing the mountains (The down side was there are trains passing by every hour but the passengers couldn't see you as long you stay in the pool). It was a spectacular and relaxing view. Furthermore, the room was spacious as it was divided into a living room and bedroom. The room also includes fridge, Nespresso machine, water machine, different type of juices and tea. Service: We were greet by the staff at the entrance and our luggage was carried to our room. The staff explained the details of our room before providing a fruit platter as welcome treat. Meals: The price included both dinner and breakfast. The dinner included 6 course menu: an appetizer with wagyu and eggplant, a salad with local vegetables, a pan fried salmon fillet, a plate of deep fried prawn, A5 wagyu steak with rice and strawberry short cake as desert. The dinner was good but not the best Japanese dish I've experienced. On the other hand, the Japanese breakfast they brought to our room was delicious and filling.

This was such a lovely experience and I’ll remember it forever. The women’s onsen was the most spectacular I have ever seen and just so beautiful; the photos really don’t do it justice. The hotel itself is fairly decrepit (all sort of rusted faded glory, the corridors look like they’ve been untouched in fifty years) - so definitely not a luxury ryokan. But it is spotlessly clean, comfortable rooms and had lovely retro styling (especially the gorgeous cafe and change rooms). The garden is to die for and makes for beautiful photos. The dinner was neither here nor there but they were great at accommodating my vegetarian request and it’s served in a lovely room. But the staff are what made it all so special - the kindest, warmest ladies you could imagine. On a practical note - Yufuin town is pretty awful (touristy and junky) so don’t bank on spending any time there. If you’re touring the area I found Michelle Mackintosh’s book “onsens of Japan” very helpful and great tips for day bathing, hotels etc. Thank you Musouen for being so charming and a wonderful memory.

We stayed for 2 nights at Poppoan. We had a room with an indoor private onsen that’s big enough to fit the four of us in ( 2 adults 2 kids) Soaking in the onsen with a beautiful view is just priceless!!! The service and food was amazing!!! They are very detailed and you couldn’t find any errors. Everything was just perfect!! It’s also super kids friendly, my girls loved every part of Poppoan!! Will definitely stay here again...

I booked this Onsen hotel plan with 2 meals via Hotels.com. I sent a request for vegetarian meal with the booking but no one replied or confirmed about this for almost 2 weeks. Then I tried to search for their contact but there was only a phone number on their English website. I didn’t call as I was not sure if I could communicate. So I asked my friend who knew Japanese to help and she found there was an enquiry form in the Japanese version of the website (only in the Japanese version) and she helped me sent an enquiry about my meal option. They replied me in a day and said they could not provide any vegetarian option. They didn’t provide any suggestions for what I should do but just asked me to understand. I then followed up to ask what would they suggest as I didn’t want to book another hotel and there was no information about vegetarian meal options on the internet. They replied and sent me the menu they were serving and none of the dishes were vegetarian. Again, they just asked for my understanding but no constructive recommendation. I would appreciate if they suggested another hotel or my cancellation but they didn’t. I then asked if I could bring my own food to be consumed in the hotel but they said no. And again they only asked for my understanding without providing any suggestions. I was not asking for them to serve me anything or any refunds for the meals included. I was just trying to work a way round so I could stay in this hotel without starving. I don’t understand why in the email conversation they were just trying to price that they were right and these all have been stated in their policies to me but not trying to help me to find a solution to solve the issue. I mean it’s up to you to stick to your policy (of not welcoming vegetarian) but if that’s the case please just suggest me to cancel my booking at the very beginning. Fortunately, I still managed to cancel it for free and was able to book another which offered vegetarian meals to me.

Reservation I booked two rooms with private onsen via hotel web page and it was easy to access. No problem at all. I did send one email to them and requested one chocolate and one samshimi during the dinner. Also reminded that we preferred the dinner with Beef Shabu Shabu and they replied my request promptly. Shuttle bus I requested the pick up shuttle to/from the hotel and the van was clean and comfortable and the driver was very professional and helpful. Front desk Lobby was small when compared with the onsen hotels i went before but still fine. Front desk officer performed professionally. Rooms with Onsen We booked two rooms. Both were good and great outdoor onsen. Rooms inside were clean and spacious with good view. Amenities inside the room A lot of cream, washing foam, lotion .....etc and I did try two items and finally decided to buy few bottles before check out. Just a friendly reminder that some items you have to purchased in the hotel and you cannot find them in the pharmacy shop. Dinner It was so delicious. I stayed many onsen hotels before but the dinner was average. The one at Yufuin Hanayoshi was excellent. The beef & Samshimi were so fresh and I could say it is an unforgettable dinner. Breakfast Traditional Japanese breakfast and there were a lot of varieties to choose. Overall experience It was so good and went to go back there again even the rate is high.

The three-person room with one berth and two meals, it was noon before check-in time, and when I left the luggage with the cake roll I just bought to the front desk clerk, I just said I want to put in the refrigerator and said half The other person smiled and said that there was no problem at all and it was very warm ... The service of the stewardess and sister was super dedicated and in place. It was very moving and slightly embarrassed ... We used dinner in the room, small and delicate, but the amount In fact, it is enough to fill your belly, because it coincides with Christmas Eve, and you can also drink a glass for one person. The plum wine we choose is cool and delicious, which is just a side dish! It goes without saying that the hot spring in the family is private, and Jingmei is totally relaxed! It is especially recommended to use it early the next day (the family soup pond is open from 7 am to 11 pm if you remember correctly) ... the smoke in the air is really a fairyland in the morning! This tatami is very comfortable, but the quilt is fluffy but warm. This night was the most practical night for my trip to sleep. When I left the next day, the staff and housekeeper watched us leave after we were taken to the door. Looking back, they have been there all the time ... It is a very authentic and satisfying Japanese hotel experience ... great and really

Ryokans and Kaiseki is my ultimate obsession. Cherishable memories created our loved ones through beautiful food accompanied exceptional customer service is why I continuously live to dream about it. Being a family of four, we always wanted to take advantage of larger sleeping accommodations, local dining options and multiple bath facilities that remote locations had to offer. Souan was definitely not our typical pick due to the location itself but my mom's vague recollection of her positive food experience with this place about 20 something years ago was a major indicator for us to do so. We were truly glad that we did. This tranquil sanctuary is conveniently located right in the hustle and bustle of Yufuin tourist attraction area, only steps away from popular souvenir shops. Don't let the humble exterior fool you. With the compassionate staff along with a mind-boggling kaiseki food experience, everything exceeded our expectations. The owner and Kie (our server) and the rest of the staff members made us feel completely at ease by consistently providing my family with exceptional customer service. The rooms were large and contemporary hinted with old world flairs. The onsen was a bit on the small side but the spring water literally made my hair silky smooth and skin feel like a baby's bottom. The dining experience was what literally flabbergasted us. The food looks so simple but we have never tasted anything like this before. From the creamiest tofu to the unique texture of the steak, every single ingredient caught us by surprise. It's typically nearly impossible to satisfy my crazy grandma due to her unattainable standards when it comes down to food but she gobbled everything down like there was no tomorrow. It's really difficult for me to express through my own words because all of these humble items look so familiar, but yet, tasted completely out of the ordinary. For those who are like us and looking for a completely unique dining and onsen experience, this is the go-to place. Thank you Soan Kosumosu Staff and Owner. Your compassion and strive to provide the best Ryokan experience for your guests truly resonates throughout this place. We will be back.

Very good service spa hotel. The receptionist was an Indian brother who gave all the information and then we stayed. When leaving, all the Japanese waiters at the door were extremely enthusiastic and the parents were very happy. This hotel is the most expensive of our trip to Kitakyushu. It is also the largest in the room. It is unexpectedly large. It says that 17 square meters actually feels at least 30 square meters. We are not used to tatami to choose a standard room, the bed is very big. The evening banquet dishes are very delicious and delicious. You can see the pictures below. Going to the hot spring hotel must book a package, otherwise it will go white. The scenery that I saw from the room was also very beautiful. If you must say some suggestions to improve, first, we want to go to the hot springs at 9 o'clock in the evening to close the door...., the second is that the check-out time is too early, it is too early at ten o'clock, have not lived for a long time, I don’t know why our three orders are separate orders for Ctrip bookings. It is estimated that the suppliers are different. There is one room with drinks for dinner and four other hotels for hot springs. The other two rooms do not. Everything is perfect. Yes, it’s also a good idea to send hot springs. We checked out the hot springs next door before leaving in the afternoon. The huge hot spring area is only too cool for me. Unfortunately, I don’t know how long it is, my husband. There is no difference between the world of the person and the private person in the male guest. I can send the hot springs of other hotels in addition to my own hotel. I am worried that the Chinese service can be assured. When we had dinner, there was a little brother who was Chinese in Chinese. He was very careful. Awesome, I recommend this hotel to everyone, and everyone remembers that if there are more suitcases, you can contact them to pick up JR. When we go, we don’t know if Mom and Dad dragged their suitcases and went back. The front desk arranged for us. Send it to JR. In fact, the walk is short but the suitcase is heavy. You can also walk slowly and walk around the hot spring street for a long time.

We stayed here for 3 nights in late October (a bit too early for red leaves but the weather is just perfect for outdoor onsen, not too cold). We are very impressed by the hospitality. The host lady is probably the best english-speaking local Japanese I have ever met in Japan. All the staff is friendly and helpful. The place is very beautifully decorated, with much attention to details. It may not be the luxurious kind of ryokan but it definitely offers you a super relaxing and comfortable home experience in traditional Japanese style. The ryokan has 5 rooms only, we rarely see other guests so we feel very quiet and private here. Although our room is not the biggest in our ryokans experience, it is surely spacious enough for the two of us. It has an entrance area, a living room, a tatami bedroom, a toilet room and an outdoor area with a rock onsen and a shower. Our bedroom and outdoor area have the best view facing the Yufuin Mountain. Location wise, perfect if you don’t have a car. It is just 10-min walk from the train station and 4-min walk to the famous “b-speak” cake shop in the main shopping street. There is also a large supermarket (close at 8pm) right in front of the ryokan where we bought sushi and drinks for our late night snacks. Parking is also available if you drive. Towels and other basic essentials you need are provided and changed daily. Clean and tidy. No food is provided in the ryokan but there are some restaurants (including some really delicious dinner options) within walking distance. We tried Fukusuke (ramen) and Yufu Mabushi (the station branch) (rice pot) and they are both good and worth trying. It may even be better than having similar ryokan meal everyday. Will definitely recommend Yurari Rokumyo for your stay in Yufuin!

This is my second time to this ryokan. My family of 4 visited this ryokan in July 2019 and stayed for 2 nights. The room was spacious, with 2 western style beds and 2 tatami beds. The dinner was with excellent quality, seafood and beef. My son has seafood and nuts allergy and requested special meals well in advance during booking. The ryokan was very attentive and prepared for him special meals with beef, different vegetables, pork, duck and chicken meats. The breakfast was also great. Different types of juices and coffee were offered and were self-served. Baien was near the mountain area and the air was really refreshing. The outdoor public onsen was superb, with nice mountain view and was large enough to serve many. The service was great and friendly. Some tips: taxi fare from Yufuin JR station to Baien was 700Yen. It only took about 15 minutes walk from Baien Ryokan to the popular lake area and the touristic streets of Yufuin. Definitely will stay again in future.
