What a find! I recently stayed here for 3 days. Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable owner. Experienced both rain and sunshine during my stay - where possible mornings were spent enjoying breakfast on the deck listening to the bird song, including hearing and seeing kea fly above and tui feeding in nearby trees. The cottage is super clean, shower has amazing pressure, cottage has everything you need, perfect location with mountain views, you are in walking distance to everything in the village including a myriad of different walks. I absolutely recommend staying here, and will definitely stay again. Thank you again 10 Cottages Team, 11/10.

The most expensive accommodation for our road trip around South Island. The facilities were lacking, particularly if you had all 9 beds full - you would not have been able to fit everyone into the living space at the same time. Great for accessibility needs but if you had more than four people it would be very cramped. A washer/dryer in the bath room would have been useful. The kitchen facilities were difficult to cook for four of us, the fridge would have been better if it was full size. A BBQ outside would have been nice to help with catering for us four. We expected a bit more for the price paid. The owner checked each evening to see if we were ok, which was great. Consumables were restocked each morning too which was great. We were nestled into the forest which was lovely being in the forest, and the heating was great for the spaces. The free glow worm tour was also great.

We had booked for 2 nights and left after the first night. The washing machine located on the premises and advised to be used by the staff destroyed approximately $600 of laundry that was washed. The blaze, indifferent and eye rolling response from the ‘owner’ was frustrating and unhelpful. After being fobbed off to deal with someone called Logan, his unprofessional business manner and redirection of blame to me was flabbergasting and amazing. After reading Tripadvisor reviews, there is a clear connection with Logan being a previous owner or manager of the motel and now has a strange connection with the faulty laundry that is everyone else’s fault but his. As our stay continued there were more issues to arise. The room was stifling hot. I appreciate that NZ motels are not use to this warm weather and therefore to not have air conditioning but to not include a fan is terrible. We struggled to sleep the first night as we could not get a breeze in the room. Our room backed directly onto the Alice May restaurant which created loud operation noise, cooking smells and light from the restaurant. The bed was far from comfortable. Even though the bed is a King bed capable of becoming 2 singles, there should be a mattress topper on the bed to alleviate the ridge down the middle and the fact the beds are hard and probably old. The linen smelt of oil or cooking fats, I can only assume this is because of the location of the restaurant or the fact the motels washes and dries the towels in full public view in the car park exposed to air from the restaurant. The Terrace was the 6th hotel we had stayed in during our time in NZ. The bathroom amenities they provided are exactly the same brand that some others have provided…the only difference, this motel has obviously watered down the amenities. They were watery and ineffective. Much like the amenities, the shower head in the room was ineffective and pathetic. Cleary during their recent ‘refurb’ these new shower heads had been installed. Unfortunately, ours sprayed every direction but where is should and if you had it turned down too low there was no water but have it too high and it would sting you. The next morning, we decided we could not stay an extra night at the property and checked into another motel for the night. There are plenty of other and no doubt better options in Franz Joseph.

Personally very satisfied. Behind the main street, next to the Western Wildlife Center, Alice May is diagonally opposite, and it is convenient to go to supermarkets, shops, trails and hot springs. The room can be parked at the door. There are refrigerators, cutlery, microwave ovens, knives, washing supplies, towels, shower gel, no toothpaste, toothbrush, slippers, hangers, wardrobes. There are public kitchens, torch living room, dining room, laundry room, free self-service popcorn, restaurant tableware, knives, cookware, stoves, and some seasonings. It is very convenient to cook, remember to use the washing and returning, garbage sorting. Free breakfast is served daily: bread, cereal, jam, milk. No soup porridge is available in the evening. The hotel restaurant is facing the glacier, the atmosphere is harmonious and the accommodation is very comfortable. There is also a free hot tub for soaking in the hotel. There is also a barbecue grill.

Drove across from Christchurch to Franz Josef Village. This little motel room had all the basics, plus a single element portable stove and a large sunbeam fry pan. Great for little meals to assist with the costs. Off street parking. Walking distance to everything in the village. Short drive to Franz Josef Glacier. The hotel manager was informative and helpful with local advice. After a wet first day, we awoke the following morning to see ice on the mountains from our motel door. Guest laundry available.

The law-abiding backpacker hotel, we stayed for two days, the two-person room did not have a separate bathroom, but was assigned to a house, just no other guests, we will have that one. The saloon can also ~ the kitchen also provides basic pots and pans, etc. ~ Advantages, there is a complimentary breakfast, and there is a hot soup in the evening, although they are all the same thing! And parking is convenient! Disadvantages, I don't know if we are on the side or not, I can't even get wifi, I just ran to the saloon, and there was a bit of noise when it rained, because the roof of the corridor is iron, but the room is not, barely Not too noisy.

We had a accommodation in the trees. We loved it. The apartment is very well furnished, very cozy, we feel very well, with a beautiful view, very pleasant. The very warm welcome and good advice for the rando. The hotel is very comfortable and very comfortable.

My partner and I stopped here for one night as we had booked an eco-tour hike. This seemed like the best option in the area and we were VERY happy with our selection. The couple who greeted us (substitutes for friends who own the place) were SO sweet! They were slightly elderly and I'd love to adopt them! Check-in and check-out were simple. Plentiful parking. The room was spacious, immaculately clean and quiet. We had a great night of sleep! There are plenty of restaurant choices nearby (the couple was kind enough to give us a map of the area and recommend a few), as well as a gas station (important!). It's setting is beautiful; lots of mountains around. We HIGHLY recommend this place.

The explanation is that the motel is very high, the design style is simple and fashionable, the space is spacious, and the open kitchen can be a warm breakfast. Amazing little place just outside Franz Josef. Quiet, clean and spacious our little villa was actually huge! Everything we needed in the kitchen and loved the eco stick toiletries. We had villa 13 which was close to the road but hardly any noise. Right opposite the little sheep petting area. The receptionist was super friendly and helpful and couldnt think of a better place to stay. Just wish we had had longer than 1 night.

Brilliant location and views, amazing cabins and quiet. We decided to stay here for 2 nights after the rain had settled in and slow our trip down. The location is approximately 5 kilometres out of Franz Josef itself but the benefit is the peace and quiet and large cabins. The cabins had a well kitted out full kitchen, large lounge and dining room and good sized bathroom. There were 2 heaters in the room which kept us toastie warm all night. There were DVDs in the reception for you to use free of charge and the gentleman at the reception was friendly and gave us some fresh milk to enjoy a cuppa with upon arrival. We will definitely be going back and staying on our next trip to NZ.

The hotel itself is very comfortable, the parking lot and the room are very large, the bedding quality is good, with a heater, it is not cold in the winter 9 nights. The bathroom has plenty of space in the bathtub and the hot water is warm. There are loungers at the entrance to enjoy the lawn, a small breakfast and homely but enough. However, it is not easy to drive from Queenstown all the way. (Don't open the night road in New Zealand, there are all mountain roads without lights). The location of the hotel is not in the town, a little distance, but it is very close to the glacier on the helicopter. It can catch up in the morning and get a high score.

Standard motel, one king bed + one small bed, one family of three, with simple kitchen equipment. There is a heater in the living room, and the small clothes that can be washed can be dried very quickly. The back of the hotel is very open and there is a pony.
