My wife and I stayed for two nights at Radisson Caledonen in August. Kristiansand is my home town and now and then we stay at a hotel when visiting the city. Due to the Covid 19 and its influence on the hotels and the whole travel situation, we were anxious about how this was handled by the hotel. Everything seemed to be according to rules. Breakfast was excellent, we were seated in sufficient distance from the other guests and some of the food we wished to have was handed out by waiters wearing gloves. In the lobby Antibac was at our disposal, but perhaps Antibac could also be available in front of the lifts when we left the lift to go to our room. We had a room at the 12th floor with a marvellous view of the harbour and the Fish market. The room was a standard one but ver good, clean but quite close to the lift. Not much noise from the other guets was heard, when they left the lift. Good parking facilites either outside the hotel or with easy access to a parking house in connection with the hotel should also be mentioned. However, the price for parking seems a little expensive, especially if you wish to book parking on the outside parking place, as you have no guarantee that there are parking spaces avaliable when you return with your car. We therefore recommend guests coming with a car to rent a place in Parko, the parking house in connection with the hotel. We definitely recommend the hotel as a place to stay when you visit Kristiansand. Centrally located within walking distance both to the harbour and the city centre with the shopping district. We have had several visits to Caledonien before the upgrading which took place about two years ago, and this was the second visit to the new upgraded hotel. We hope to be back again sometime. We really enjoyed our stay here. To check in you use the Radisson Blu check in. The rooms are really big and very clean. The buffet breakfast at the Radisson Blu was excellent with a great selection and quality of food. The buffet breakfast was extra but still good value. We had a view of the harbour which was also good. The hotel is only several hundred metres from the centre of town and a harbour area with lots of open air restaurants. Staff at check in were delightful and there’s parking nearby which you can get at a discount if staying at this hotel.

We booked a family room for two nights and arrived in the early hours of the morning. The lobby is quite spectacular with two oversized ceiling lamps with crystals descending from them. The decor is lavish. Our room was a fair size for a family room with bunk beds. The lighting in the room is very dull even in the morning the light from outside was poor as the window was small and in a corner of the room. The bathroom was small, again with poor down lighting for men to shave and women to do makeup. There is no handle for helping you climb in/out of bath to have a shower and the shower door is fixed so it can be quite precarious getting in and out with nothing for support. Beds are comfortable but pillows are awful. The type of large pillow that you lay down on and it envelopes your head. Breakfast is substantial, but I would suggest having thongs for picking up the sliced fruit instead of the oversized spoons. I observed one guest just giving up trying to lift up the fruit with the spoons and use his hands instead. Not very hygienic. Staff were pleasant and chatty and some were more helpful than others. We had misplaced our phone plug after we checked out and while they inquired about it with housekeeping, another staff member (who had just begun working with the hotel) offered to recheck our room after it was cleaned and then offered us a replacement plug from lost property box. I’m sorry I didn’t ask her her name. We did book a separate third night before departing Kristiansand. We had spent one night in Stavanger in between. This time they gave us two doubles. I felt that these rooms were more recently refurbished as the bathrooms especially were more modern than our previous room. It’s a good hotel and the location to the ferry is ideal. There are nice cafes beside it and the town has some nice restaurants.

Stayed 4 nights, in July high season with wife and two kids. As we have rather small children, we had two seperate dbl rooms. Two days prior to arrival, we asked to be placed next door, as we had two rooms, which was confirmed and accomodated within hrs. Check in was fast and front desk staff had a big smile on their faces. Front desk staff remained very service minded and attentative the whole stay. Rooms were sizeable, and paint, drapes and interior suggested a fairly newly renowated hotel. Bed was a king size, even in std rooms, with new and modern sockets and light controls on both sides, in total 4 usb charging sockets, and a smart tv with airplay and blutooth connectivity. Bathrooms are ok size, and has double sockets, and a sizable shower built into the wall with no water spilling. On the negative side, the rooms are quite bland, with no decorations etc, nor did it have a desk, which is quite rare... No minibar/fridge or tea/coffee maker either, soap in bathroom and shower are build in wall containers, which all supports a modest/bland line of Thon Hotels. However, considering the price, such bland presentation is what you would expect. Breakfast was of good quality, with high quality foods, however selection and presentation again confirming a rather bland hotel. The only thing which was not to satisfactory and expectation was the housekeeping of the rooms. On one of our rooms, our son found something, which looks like a rotten piece of fruit, on day 3, meaning it had at least skipped 1 full clean downs and 2 over night households. See attached picture. And both rooms was not vacuumed/cleaned to satisfactory on the daily maintenance, leaving sand and dirt on the floors. All in all an experience somewhat as expected, being high season in Kristiansand, this is very good value for money! However, they could really deliver over expectations by being more attentitative on some low hanging housekeeping fruits! Would not recommend for business, but with a very central location, its ideal for a modest vacation with good value for money!

We stayed at Comfort Hotel after arriving on the late ferry. It was easy to find and close to the port. There is a public parking garage right across the street. It's also downtown and a nice jumping off place to go for a walk in the city. Reception is open 24 hours and was super friendly. The room was small and a bit dated but clean and about exactly what I expected for the hotel type. The bed was comfortable and shower worked well with good water pressure. Breafast buffet is included in the price. It was pretty good sized with a good variety (breads, beans, eggs, crepes, potatoes, fruit, etc) but we got there about 40 minutes before it was supposed to end and it was already very picked over and things were not refilled.

The stuff is kind and friendly; can drink tea in the lobby and there is also a very good lounge zone as well, where you also can charge your phone and drink more tea 😄 The location is very convenient (close to the main city square and bus/train station). The fuayer also connects to the restaurant Egon, with a very nice environment and a wide choice in menu. People can also enjoy an ice cream in the lobby, while waiting at the service desk (a few options for the average price); The prices are quite affordable according the quality and location among the rest of that kind of a hotels.

Massive, warm room, with upgrade. However tv not visible from bed. Queen bed not supplied, as promised and toilet seat loose. Frokost varied and hot, after a few seconds in the microwave provided. Brilliant!! ! Nice coffee. Wifi drops constantly, after a couple of hours, not 12, as indicated. Requiring new log in each time. No guest computer and tv signal flakey.

I stayed there one night with two kids under the age of five and my husband. The room was so small for four people plus bags. We did not have any place to walk in the room, just stumbled round the beds and the bags. The room was very warm, and we asked the reception if it was possible to turn down the heat, but we where told it was one system for the whole hotel. The room had thin walls. When we but our kids to bed around 19, they woke up so many times until it was quiet around midnight. Then we became the people who made a lot of noice, since our youngest child had a hard time sleeping after been woken up so many times. But we don't blame the hotel for that, i Just wish people was a little aware they where staying a place with small children going to beed before midnight. The room was clean and we felt safe even thou there is an pandemic going on. The restaurant with the restrictions had a poor menu and the food was average. Next time going to Dyreparken we will choose to stay in Abra Havn with 2 bedrooms.
