We spent our Christmas at the beautiful Anchorage Villa. The villa is an exclusive modern architectural building, with high quality tropical wood furniture. Very stylish, very high quality. The best accomodation which we had in Sri Lanka. Very comfortable rooms with air condition, large and comfortable beds. Clean and large bathrooms, and clean pool. Our property supervisor/host Mahinda provided us every day very tasty and plenty breakfast, fresh juices every morning. He provided us an unforgettable hospitality, Christmas tree and nice decoration even we got presents for Christmas. Our host provided us a contact for good and reliable TUK TUK drives who transferred us everywhere at very low rates.

We loved our 2 night stay at the seascape, and it was the perfect amount of time to stay. Pros The setting was lovely, beach quiet beach and area but very popular for advanced surfers. We were able to check in a little early, and room with balcony was beautiful, clean and a good size room with ocean views. The view from the balcony was great, and both nights we walked up the beach to watch the sunset on the rocks. Staff were helpful with good english. They organised transfer and tuk tuk for us, and we had no problems. Dinner was great, we wish we ate here both nights! Breakfast was good, lots of options available. Would recommend! Feedback for the Seascape There was limited stock of beverages as they had run out, aware these were filled the next day... but was a shame. Alot of holiday makers love to lay by the beach and have a few to drink. This wasnt a Huge problem as the staff went out and got some beer for us after requesting. I would also suggest that as the rooms are so nicely designed, and as they want to be plastic free, to replace the horrible plastic bins and laundry baskets with something more fitting.... will definitely improve space in bathroom and overall ambiance.

Simple, homely, close to nature stay. Basic, good location, good home cooked fresh food. You may be lucky to meet porcupines, monitor lizards, birds, sankes, monkeys. Tip- 1. bring your own toiletries and experience this beauty, 2. Be careful of food kept in balcony as monkeys find the food tasty.

This place is an absolute gem!! We arrived and they had no deluxe rooms left, so the put us in an even bigger beautiful room with a sea view for the same price! Excellent service! The room was clean, fresh and had a tv and powerful A/C! The bed and pillows were potentially the best I’ve ever slept on, no exaggeration! We both had such a peaceful comfortable nights sleep here, with the waves lapping at the shore just meters away! Breakfast was delicious, as was the huge pot of tea they delivered! The swimming pool is very shallow but nice to cool down in. We only booked for one night and wanted to extend but they were fully booked! I’m not surprised! Honestly the nicest place we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka so far for the low price! The staff are also super friendly and happy with gorgeous smiles!

After a long trip we finally arrived at the Chill House. It's located close to Weligama directly at the beach. After one day were the only guests so it was very quiet :D The room was quite small but nice. Unfortunately there was no closet or anything where you could stash your stuff. I guess it's more a place for backpackers who don't stay too long anyway The bathroom is small and everything is quite...let's say not new. However, it is very clean! On the balcony you have a nice view into the garden and to the beach. The 'in-house' restaurant has some nice dishes, nothing too special, it's mostly adapted to tourists and takes quite long as there is only one person who cooks. The real highlight is the rooftop! Its huge and equipped with hammocks. If you wish there are yoga mats as well. The view is incredibly beautiful. In the front there is the beach and in the back there is the jungle. You're surrounded by palm trees. The owner is a helpful and really nice guy offering tours and surf guiding. It's a very peaceful and quiet place and we did enjoy our stay. Like I said before, I wouldn't say it's a place to stay for a longer amount of time as the distances are quite far if you wanna do some sight seeing. 3-5 days is def enough to see absolutely everything in this area.

After arriving from Colombo we had organised accommodation with ocean view but to our surprise found this area quite loud. We decided to go for a walk to find a more peaceful area and accommodation. To our luck we found vogel nest! We planned to stay for 2 days but ended up staying 8 nights. Surrounded by a little rainforest, walking distance to shops and beach we found heaven. I was traveling with my best friend and we felt super comfortable and safe with our beautiful host. Vogel nest is also home to a local family, who make you feel at home and offer amazing meals and services. I couldn’t recommend anymore. Bedrooms are very accommodating, comfortable beds and very clean rooms. Aircon and non aircon rooms available, we choose not to and found the area quite cool. A must, I hope you enjoy as much as we did. We can’t wait to return!

Blue Star Beach Hotel staff where so friendly and made us feel as in home. They try to help you for all your requests like going to the airport, or needing a car to go to other places or booking the whale watching activity. The food was great, especially the Shawarma Pizza , Hummus, and so the Burger. They do pool party which is awesome. Of course not to forget the internet that is always available. The hotel is so close to the beach just a 1 minute walk. And the waves are so nice for surfing. Am sure if I visit Sri Lanka again I will book again in Blue Star Beach Villa Hotel.

I stayed here for a week. paged $4 for my own room and bathroom! No, it's not a 5 star hotel, but it's clean and smells normal (minus moth balls, but glad for less bugs), and the service was excellent! This is a family run hostel, very close to Jungle Beach in Welligama, about a 20 minute walk to the main surf beach. It's nice because it off the main drag, therefore quiet and peaceful, in a sweet neighborhood filled with wild peacocks!! rent a bicycle for 200 LKR per day, easy to get around. several restaurants and small shops within walking distance. The hosts are the sweetest and happy to accommodate most needs. The mom cooks up a delicious omelet or pancakes for breakfast for a very cheap price. She also makes a yummy rice and curry dish with prawns!! The internet is not the best, but that is my only complaint. It's better on the rooftop, which is pleasant to hang out on while making a phone call, looking at the sea, while listening to and watching peacocks parade around.

This hotel is very cool. Only 11 rooms plus a couple of cabins. Rooms were very smart with absolutely stunning views of the ocean. Nice big barrooms, strangely no shower curtain. Restaurant was limited but service was exceptional and once they got under way the menu and food was delightful. Wonderful pool outside. Outdoor dining area. Lots of pool towels. The beach which is stunning is just about thirty metres from the gate. There are cafes and food stalls along the beach. No one annoys you. The manager was a good man. He was very helpful. I read some other reviews. They must have the wrong place. Everything here was very sharp. So it’s not brand new, buger off back to Germany if you want new.

One of the best visits I had. This is a cabana type resort which made out of container boxes. Inside the container boxes, they have done a pretty awesome work. All basic needs are there. Located in Deniyaya bordering just next to the World Famous "Sinharaja Rain Forest". You can taste real Sri Lankan Rice and Curry here. Food was very delicious. But their Western dishes have quite less portion. Staff is very friendly and attentive. They have jungle trekking and series of outdoor activities. I was not lucky enough to participate since I spent only one night there. My advise is to try at least 2 nights there. Ideal place to get relaxed from your busy life. You can breath super fresh air coming through the sinharaja forest. Green green everywhere and can stare for hours. If you visiting on a long weekend, be mindful because a famous local tourist attraction called Patna Estate is located on the same road. Huge number of vehicles coming that way and it is harder for you to go uphills since the road is very narrow and have very sharp bends. Truly amazing place to be. I highly recommend this place. I will definitely visit this place again.

Without a doubt one of the best villas that I stayed down south. The property owns a beautiful garden. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and they were very polite and friendly. The restaurant was very flexible and made food to our taste.. We arrived quite late in the evening and the rooms were ready and it took less than 2 mins to check in, the staff were very efficient. They organized a very good sea food BBQ for dinner. They own beautiful beach on the opposite side of the road with an adjoining sea food restaurant.. they serve some excellent seafood dishes.. I’m impressed with the Villa and it is an excellent option for a small group of people to chill out...

We were here 23- 27th March 2019. Kumara and his family were excellent hosts. Lovely room on the first floor. Very clean. Homecooked food by Kumara's wife Nadeeka, the best Sri Lankan food we tasted on our trip. Very reasonable prices. Kumara was kind enough to take me to the hospital in Matara several times when I required hospital treatment and was available to translate for me. We really felt part of their wonderful family and were truly sad to have to leave. They also organised us a taxi back to Colombo for our flight home. We both hope that we will be able to visit again soon. Watching a family of monkeys from our balcony every morning was interesting, And only a minute from a lovely quiet beach. A big thank you to the family for their wonderful hospitality. Jim+ Cilla (the guy with the bite on his finger!)

We booked Guest & Rest via AirBNB for one night thinking we may stay for two, however have had such a wonderful time we extended our stay twice. Sanjaya treated us like family, looking after us so so well. He is a fantastic host with good english and great local knowledge. We met his lovely wife, two bright eyed boys ( & soon to be arriving daughter). A perfect place to stay if you have children and a real bonus is having the plunge pool, great for cooling off on hot days ( not easy to find in this price range) One of the great things was having access to a kitchen, and what a space! Located on the 3rd floor over looking the local area. It was just perfect, relaxing over breakfast, watching the monkeys play in the trees across the road, and village life passing you by below. So nice to feel part of the daily life. We booked two rooms for ourselves and two children which opened onto the courtyard, both were spacious, light and clean, with good bathrooms and aircon. Sanjaya is a very caring host and will try and accommodate any of your needs or suggestions. He organised scooters for us while we stayed and a Sri Lankan breakfast one of the mornings which was delicious. We highly recommend staying here. Thank you Sanjaya for a lovely time. Hope to be back. Tanya, Matthew, Olive & Eartha

We had read that Tallala offered one of the best, most unspoilt, beaches on the south coast and we were not disappointed. It is a beautifully undeveloped crescent of sand fringed by coconut palms. The Retreat has substantial grounds and beautiful well-kept gardens and the best swimming pool of any of the hotels we stayed in on our trip. Our first-floor room was open to the elements (beware of invading monkeys) which gave a very natural feel. Beds are equipped with good quality mosquito nets but we were not troubled by insects in March. The spacious open-air bathroom contributed positively too. There was a vibrant young clientele enjoying the on-site yoga and the surfing school facilities. This gave a very relaxed, international atmosphere and the staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. The one disappointment was the quality of the food at breakfast and dinner. Compared with other similar establishments where we stayed that offered buffet style meals, both the range and the quality here could easily be improved. Consequently, on our second and third evenings, we chose to eat dinner at a restaurant further along the beach which provided superb authentic dining in a much more romantic setting for the same price!

Great place that pleases with its location. An ideal place for surfing, where within walking distance the spots Lazy Left, Lazy Right, Rams and Plantation, depending on the condition, you can always choose the right one. On the trip, I needed the Internet and here it exceeded all expectations, I have never encountered a lack of speed for work. We booked a night here in order to visit the Singaraja Rain Forest Reserve. Unfortunately, the cottages are located quite a ways from the reserve and, according to the owner, the only way you can visit is to book a pricey excursion through him. We were charged $30pp for a 4x4 vehicle and a scary driver, when we already had a driver that could have driven us most of the way there and then taken a tuk tuk for the last bit (which we had to do anyway, even having taken the 4x4). The room we occupied was nice, but not amazing as other reviewers have written. Air conditioning was too cold and difficult to control. Bed was large but didn’t have proper linens. We asked for and received an extra sheet, but it was child-sized and didn’t cover even one adult effectively. Bathroom is attached to the cottage, but you have to step outside for a short ways to access it (can be difficult for night “visits”). The view from the front deck of the river is very nice, but the deck has no guard rail on the river side, so you have to be careful where you step/sit. Most of all what disappointed us was that we had no idea that there were only 2 cottages here. There is no separate dining area to take your meals - both dinner and breakfast the following morning were brought to our deck, which we thought a bit strange. Also, we weren’t given any sort of orientation by the owner when we arrived so there was a sense that we were not fully aware of how to “use” the cottage (for example, what the multitude of light switches controlled). Further, a full menu was provided to us to study but when it came time for dinner only fried rice was available, which while tasty was rather tepid by the time it was carried the significant distance from the kitchen to our cottage. Overall, I think this property falls into the “needs improvement” category. It has the potential to be quite nice (as long as you realize what it is and what it isn’t), but isn’t quite there yet.

We stayed at the LakRaj for 4 nights in January and will definitely be back! The hotel is set on the beach with a natural pool carved out of rocks. It’s the perfect place to switch off - we spent most of the day lying on the loungers watching the waves and snorkelling - there are lots of fish around the reef near the hotel. The staff were great - friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was good - served upstairs on a terrace with incredible views. The property is very new and well maintained. Washroom and kitchenette facilities are up to top European standards. The King sized bed is very comfortable and the room is spacious. We particularly liked the fact that the Villa was set back from the beach by a couple of hundred meters. This provided more quiet and a light breeze during the day. Air conditioning worked very well. The host spoke good English and comes from a family that has lived in Tallala for generations. You can ask him anything. One thing I liked as I am a birdwatcher, one could walk up unto the roof which gave a good view of the surrounding foliage. On the big tree across the road we saw a family of the endemic Sri Lankan Hornbills every day eating the fruit. One last word, Tallala is a great clean beach, go before it becomes too developed. First on the positives. The hotel is located in a unique location. It just takes your breath away. Secluded. Great for relaxing and romance. Ideal for couples as well as families. There were a lot of western nationals present. The welcome was courteous and hats-off to the staff at reception. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. Cleanliness is very good. Bathroom has all amenities. On the downside, room nos 43-46 had terraces overseeing the ocean. But the view was blocked by a black polythene covering on the fence, which made the terrace view redundant. I had requested balcony view on my booking (but as an option). Experienced Dinner and Breakfast. Limited variety left much to be desired. Even the hype on the breakfast that actually convinced me to book this hotel (among other options) was a disappointment. Fruit juices had to be purchased at the buffet. The waiting staff (females especially) didn't help by their visible negligence of local guests. Foreign guests were very well treated. The restaurant manager was the only one who we can commend as he was painstakingly attending to each guest. Great guy! Always double check menu prices when dining-in (room). As menu prices defer at time of billing. I will certainly recommend the hotel as the improvements can be promptly done and the experiences of guests vary.
